Replacement phone has some quirks - HTC EVO 3D

Just got my Evo3D replaced under warranty at my local sprint repair center. My original Evo3D's touch screen went bonkers and they ended up just having to replace the entire thing.
The service rep I wad dealing with told me it was a new phone (not refurb'd) but I'm starting to doubt that. I found out that 2 of the capacitive buttons are bright and the other 2 are dim. The home button is dim. The menu button is bright. The back button is dim. The search button is bright. I don't remember my other phone having this symptom.
Also there is dust under the screen already. How is this possible with a brand new phone?
Wondering if I should go back and try to get this one replaced as well.

Buddy, you're lucky. On my first new phones, the capacitive light for the search button was screwed up. There was dirt under the screen and a few dead pixels. The screen was also slightly tilted to the right. I ended up getting a replacement which suffered from other problems

Good call. Yea, it's a refurb. Which is normal from what I know about the sprint replacement policy. Except the service rep told me it was brand new. Damn.

[Q]replacement phone

i just got my replacement warranty phone from big red after my new one went to poop. anyways.... first, the top right screen looks and feels like its not screwed in tight. i can see the screen loose and i can press it down to where it should be but just looks like i can peel the screen off.so i tighten up the screw on the back but still have some play on it. is that normal? my wifes phone doesn't seem to do that but just in case someone else had this problem and what they did aka return or what not.
another note my screen has that brownish tint or what not to it. my wife screen is white and bright and mine is white brownish color (hard to explain but dull looking tint). is that normal on new phones?
main question is i don't know if this phone is broken, defective or what not. just needed some input if some of you guys had this problem. thanks
Sounds like a not so good refurb. What's big red?

Don't feel bad I recently had a fascinate that the screen burned out on. They sent mme a replacemrnt and the new one wouldn't get signal. Ever. Got my third one and called back and complained and ended up with the thunderbolt and sold my fascinate and profited 200 bucks.

HTC Amaze, i want your personal opinion

just got the amaze from the mail 2 days ago
i noticed that i have 1 really tiny dirt, very tiny, not even noticeable unless you focus your eyes on it inside the screen, also the touch capacitive buttons make my phone looks like it has screen bleeding problem.
i want your opinion if you would mail it back and get a replacement or just deal with it.

Get it replaced. But the capacitive buttons does make it look like the screen is bleeding. I got used to it after 2 days or so. It's an amazing phone. I love it.
battery life, screen bleed, touch capcitive issues, some grounding issues
i already got the label and everything, just gotta drop it off.
i really like this phone, exchanging for the same one

I also have some screen bleed. Never thought about sending it in cause its the only phone I have. If I got it under manufacturers warranty would they send me different phone???
Then I ship this back or do I have to ship mine out first??

But that's the thing. Unless your "screen bleed" is completely different than the pictures posted here every Amaze is going to be the same. The capacitive buttons are too bright on black screens and the light leaks through to the area of the screen right above them.
Every phone has this problem.
Sending it in will just get you another phone with the same problem.

i exchange phone on t-mobile all the time, if thats your provider, youll have to tell them about the issue, and hopefully they send you a replacement, its only going to be the phone, no battery case, just the phone, then once you get it you can then send your old one back without the battery and case cuz youre gonna be using them on the new one

LOL i meant return it, get the new one and then trade me your white GS for my amaze = 2 Amazes

T-Mobile guys...have a question

so, im on my second amaze (first one had a dead pixel) and i need to take this one back now too because i have these 3 bright spots under the cap keys where light is leaking thru that is pretty bad and that i never noticed on their display model or the first one i owned.
since ive only been with tmo about 2-3 weeks, im not really sure how often i can return a phone for being defective (still within remorse period). do they flag your account for too many returns? is there a limit to the amount of phones they will exchange? should i try and return this phone to a different store?
i feel like for the money i paid for this phone it should be flawless and at the same time its both a burden on me and tmo that i keep having to return this phone. thoughts? experiences? thanks
the three bright spot are on all models, its a known issue with the phone, they may take it back, but you will get an other one with the same issues.

i dont think it matters how many you physically return but if your requesting them from insurance they do because a lot of people scam insurance and just sell their devices.
Although, the capacitive lights at the bottom do leak, a lot. this is a well known issue and its highly likely that the next Amaze you get will have the same issue. If I were you, I'd at least root, and download adjbrightness from the market and just turn em off. It saved me some battery and got rid of all the light leakage hope I helped bro
if it is a deal breaker for ya, just get the GSII, its a good one too

check out this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438805) see how this guys 3 dots are barely noticeable? mine are as bright as the cap keys themselves and the display model at 2 stores ive been to doesnt have em. i can deal with the way those look in the pic, but mine are super noticeable

had one of those too and had a bunch of ghost lines and blobs, plus the low resolution didnt really appeal to me on such a big screen
You can exchange it as many times as you want. Hell, I exchanged mine 4 times in one week! The issue I keep having is I have blue lines in my LCD. I am on my 6th replacement.

Light bleed is a known issue. There is a modification you can make to almost completely fix. I say it doesn't affect normal usage so I left it alone. Strongly recommend you stick with amaze. It's a great device.

I never noticed these on my phone until last night when I was watching a show on my phone. Kind of annoying, and I'm hoping they don't get worse. I don't know how they would, but I've had the phone for two months and never noticed it till now.
For sure exchange though, I doubt they flag your account for having phone hardware issues. I only had 4 mytouch4gs in a year, but I was annoyed enough to get a free amaze out of it. They're good with exchanges. Wish they didn't have to be and the phones worked, but oh well.

It really sucks having blue lines in the LCD. Since I am not far from Chicago, the cold weather here I believe is triggering the issue. I am going to keep exchanging until HTC gets it right and T-Mobile sends me a good phone lol.
Exchange it man! Don't be shy. You deserve what you pay for and tmo needs to be held responsible for providing that. Guarantees are only useful if you use them! If they overcharged you for some service would you just pay it because you don't want to burden them? I do agree it can be a pain to bring it in, I would go so far as to request a discount on your service. Never forget, they are there to serve you!
P.S. I also never lock myself into contracts, just so I have the option to quit. You would be amazed how much better service you get from the "customer retention center."

Under the cap buttons? Really? I guess I will have to see the picture when u post it. The known light bleed issue is 3 white spots above the cap buttons... More so in between each cap button... But on the screen. It's noticeable when the screen has a black background. If that's not what you're talking about, then u may have a faulty device

yup, its strange for sure. ive been spending so much time trying to restore my wifes kindle fire that i havent had much time for anything else. ill try and get a pic up in a few!
I don't have any blue lines or dead pixels on my Amaze, but so have the very common light bleed onto a dark screen, which was annoying.
I downloaded an app called screen filter off the market and it shuts the lights off on the soft keys. It was god sent! Didn't have to root my device either.
Not sure what you are talking about. Honestly don't want to as it may bother me if I see it on mine because of your picture, lol!
Loving this phone! Granted I just got it.

ok guys, just got back exchanging my 2nd device at a different store and wait for it...wait for it...this thing is flawless (so far)!!!! very, very minimal light bleed and absolutely zero light coming from in between the cap buttons...
the store i bought the first 2 units from admitted to me that they sold very few amazes so i figured i must have been getting old stock. well it turns out, the other store i went to today had gotten burglarized a few weeks ago and had all completely new inventory. looks like the newer units have maybe addressed our concerns? not sure, but at this point im very happy!!
now that i got a good unit, you guys are stuck with me here for awhile! LOL
That's cool man. Glad to hear you got a good Amaze.
It was funny after reading this thread, I kept looking for those spots you were talking about, which I do get, but bleeds into the screen and that app took care of that problem. But having it outside in the sun, I noticed those blue lines. It is faint, but there. Looks like a grid. I assume these are on all of the devices? I can't see it much unless outside and the sun beating on it at a certain angle.
Kind of how my Kindle Fire is as well.

[Q] Touch Screen going crazy, plz help!

My HTC EVO 3D's screen is getting worse and worse seemingly after the last OS update to version 4.1.1 from HTC. I think it's software related because it doesn't happen all the time and turning the screen off for a few seconds makes it go away for a little while and there have been no significant drops of the phone. Factory reset didn't help. The phone is not rooted.
Here's a 15 sec video clip so you can see what I mean:
plus.google.com/u/0/106879723793109771975/posts/jmp9YEuEVoz
(this is my first post so I don't get to embed a link to an outside page)
Those white dots show "touches" that the screen is registering. Anyone have any ideas what I should do? This Rogers phone is over a year old, so Rogers won't replace it and I don't think HTC will now either.
I don't have a screen protector on either.
So, screen protector is not the problem. No huge impacts with the screen too.
Guessing a digitizer issue. I'd take it for repair.

These digitizers are notoriously bad... I've been through 4. Three were refurbished though
Sent from my PG86100
Where did you get 4.1.1 update?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Fully agree, Digi is the issue. Take it to your mobile provider for them to look at it... explain to them about you possibly think its the Digi and they will take it in.
Failing that, HTC direct will beable to help
But how do you got official 4.1.1??
He's mistaken. He meant ICS.
Well, that's funny! The EVO I sent back that I got on launch day, since it was a few months old did that at the bottom. The replacement does that at the top, now I've seen it on the right side. Maybe the replacement that's coming this week will do it on the left!
Yep, sounds like a bad digitizer to me. I replaced one about three months ago, and this one is going out, now. First one I picked up was cheap with "tools" and some adhesive. I just ordered another from Amazon, that's supposedly from HTC, for a little more $$$. I guess I'll see how that one goes. Usually can find them for less than 20, and combos (digitizer and LCD) for about 60.
There are threads that detail how to replace them, and videos on you tube. Not hard, if I can do it, just take your time and follow the instructions.

My Rezound screen is cracked, presses buttons by itself, problem?

(TL;DR version below) I have a BADLY cracked Rezound, which fell from my backpocket when I was taking my pants out of gym class and hit it smack right on the screen. I've looked for signs of a cracked LCD, I've never actually seen a phone with a cracked LCD, only digitizer, and I don't see any 'leaking' colors or discoloration, any dead pixels or anything, it's just a normal cracked phone. However, sometimes when I try to text, message, or write something, some of the buttons (Often the N and G button) doesn't work and it always presses the button next to them, I have to turn it in landscape mode for me to press the N and G buttons, but other buttons doesn't work, so it led me to the conclusion that certain parts of the screen does not respond. However, very rarely does the phone work perfectly, if not for the cracked screen, I can press every button just fine, and the phone doesn't press buttons by itself.
What does this mean? Does this mean the LCD is damaged? as far as I know, weird color display is the only symptom of LCD damage...will getting the digitizer fixed solve these problems?
TL;DR: Some parts of the screen do not work most of the time, phone presses button by itself, will replacing digitizer fix it?
If you have the insurance option and pay the 100 dollar deductible take it because I have read other posts were they have tried a replacing the digitizer and something else would go wrong like a burnt 4G card.

Nope, don't have any insurance, the Rezound is my second phone, with the original Motorola Droid being my 1st, and I have never dropped it so I was in over my head when I bought my rezound D: so is that a yes, that I need to replace my LCD, along with my digitizer??

Should not. If the display is clear with no lines or colors fading, digitizer is all you need.

Digitizer is all he would need, but would recommend replacing them both as a whole. Makes the process much easier, and isn't that much more expensive ($60 on eBay for a LCD + digitizer assembly). Don't have to worry about dust getting trapped under the digitizer when replacing it.
