Screen Cracked, no Dock or Case or Nothing - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

My screen just cracked, I set it down on the table very gently, picked it up again a min later and there was a crack from the center almost all the way to the top of the device. I am very angry right now because of it, I know I did nothing at all. I bought the tablet 3 weeks ago. I also had noticed when I tap of the screen I would see the rainbow colors you might see when you put pressure on a laptop screen. I believe either the glass was to close or to far. Thoughts? I am working with ASUS about it now Pics here

i think there is a forum here about that.. there are numbers of complains like yours there.. that is why im hesitant to buy the prime..

Asus will decide if it is CID (My Fault) when they get it so fingers crossed

fingers crossed mate, ive seen a few people reporting this but all linked to the dock. im wondering if its got too hot and stressed the glass.
let us know how you get on with asus, this is one thing that is really worrying me about my prime. im tempted to take out insurance to protect against this which is silly as its sounding more and more like a manufacturing issue.
I emailed Gary for Asus take on it a few weeks ago and got nothing...

At least the Fedex shipping they provide was overnight express. And my screen was not touched, docked, cased, and the device has never got hot at all.

It is not that uncommon for a new screen to have micro fractures which can expand rapidly without warning. There is a film (bonded) under the glass that can hide them until the last moment.
Hot/Cold variations often exasperate this condition, but i realize you said that was not the case.
Hope all is covered and works out well for you.

Just a follow up. If you have the same problem as me DONT SEND IT IN TO ASUS YET, my status says cid/oow but I called in and they said it was still being looked at. I really think they are going to screw me on this so DONT SEND IT IN until I get an update out.

Follow Up: Still no email or call from them even though it has been 4 days with my status saying CID/OOW. I am assuming they see the broken screen and automatically mark it as such and move on.

Cracked touchpad... sent to hp today.

Ok so a few days ago I noticed that my touchpad had small crack near the right speaker and I thought nothing of it. couple of days later I looked at again and it seemed bigger (now im starting to worry!) and I checked out the forums here and noticed that ALOT of touchpads were having this issue. I called up HP yesterday and they said they will fix it for free and a box will be sent to my address. The next day ups dropped off a box at my door (Really fast shipping I guess!) I packed it up in the box and everything and called ups to schedule a pickup and the guy came the same day (must love his job, lol). HP said about a week until I get it back (and all for free!).
I did not try to make the topic that long, sorry.
The moral of the story was if your touchpad is cracking dont just deal with it, it will get worse overtime and before you know it you will be out of warranty with a messed up touchpad. So take advantage of the warranty and be happy once again. Anyways what are you going to do while your waiting for ics ?

It's true. When mine first started cracking I didn't think anything of it but then the crack went right up to the bezel and part of the case started chipping away. HP sent me a box (got here 2 days after I talked to them so really fast) and sent it away yesterday. I'm expecting it back by this time next week or next monday. Not too long to go without a tablet.
If you bought your touchpad new, they will give you a refurbished unit. Either fixing it or replacing the touchpad, you will get the crack again. Thats what HP said to me!
They sold every single touchpad from there inventory and have none left.

I assume that they put new glass/back cover on though. That's what Apple does with iPhones. But did they really tell you that no matter what you're going to get cracks again?
yeap. The hp specialist said that cracks may occur once again, so please handle the device with care.
You could send them an email and tell them you have cracks (providing with pictures) and they might give you a free touchpad case.
For $250 (which i purchased) its not a terrible tablet to start playing with. I wasnt shocked by hp's build quality. There hw quality is horrible.
If i have paid $599 then I'd take action.
I paid $150 for mine because I got it right from the store during the fire sale. Even if it was only $10 I still expect the damn thing to hold together. If it cracks again I'll be sending it back and angrily sending them an email.
Yeah a lot of people seem to be having this problem. I also read that even putting a case on it doesn't really help. Hopefully I don't get it. It's pretty annoying having to send it back and waiting to get it back when there's so much going on with new roms and everything you don't wanna miss out on.
my wife's TP has cracked by both speakers, so I'm debating sending it back. My TP has held up. I'm just reluctant to send it back cause it works very well and If it get's replaced with a refurb, you never know what issues you can get.

What I did was put super glue and make sure you get the clear one. I put a two drops and held the speaker plastic to its original location and it secured it. However, because I was using my sleeve, the tiny hairs and fabric caught on the glue and its all hairy LOL.
Still its very solid and hast cracked any more. Make sure you wear gloves and make sure the area is clean. once you get it dried, it will look like it never cracked.

It is probably the best thing to do ( even tho they went open source and they are discontinued). For reference I uninstalled android with the ACMEUninstaller and restored web os.
My friend got his replacement 2 weeks ago and it already cracked. I just put a piece of tape over mine and called it a day.
how long has the turn around been for everyone?
also have you been getting back yours with a new back or a referb
thanks!
i thought about sending mine in but i know its gonna happen again no matter what so there is really no point. Maybe ill send it in right before my warranty is over. It worries me though cause i can actually pull the plastic away since its detached completely on the one side.
Someone needs to make a third party back that we can replace our current one with easily. They would make a killing. Plus I would kill to have an HP Touch pad with a white back.

Thats what I would do myself. If it's gonna crack again why send it back and be without it? Tape for me.
I have had my 32g in a case since day one and not had any issues with cracking(and my 2 year old seems to think this is her tablet), though I know 2 different people with the 16g that had cracking issues. Both of them had excellent experiences with HP also.
I have to wonder how long that gracious customer service is going to last now...
I received my touchpad a couple weeks after the firesale (if I remember right), and it eventually developed a crack by one of the speakers. I'm talking about just a few weeks ago. If it pulls free I will just use superglue to fix it.
I can imagine HP's fix is simply to put a new housing on the unit, that will eventually end up cracking again. Mine's been in the HP case since I started using it, so it's not like taking care of it will prevent the crack, or cracks.

[Updated] RMA Update 2/3/2012

Update February 3:
Tried the GPS test again today and I went from 0 satellites before the RMA to now having 7 satellites. Attached is a screen shot of such.
Good job Asus.
Update February 2:
Received my prime last night and played with it for most of the evening. No problems on honeycomb, updated to ICS and still had no problems. There was no information on exactly what they did to repair like I had hoped but all is good.
GPS is slightly better (1 satellite vs. 0 satellites before) but in my opinion, this isn't a GPS device and I don't plan on using it like one.
So in a TL;DR version: If you plan on RMA'ing, it worked effectively for me but the whole process took about a month.
Original post:
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to take the time to keep you all up to date on how the RMA side of the prime tech support is going for me and possibly others.
I sent my prime to Texas on the 5th (It's been quite a while.. I miss it.) A week later it was received by the repair facility (the 12th). The support status website then said "Waiting" for about 18 days then finally it said "Ready for shipping" and the "memo" section said I received a new serial number.
I'm guessing the support staff did extensive hardware replacement or simply gave me a new prime. I hope some sort of repair report/record is included whenever I get my prime back.
Original complaint was absolutely zero GPS and slight backlight bleed.
I attached a screenshot of the repair status screen.
I'll update this post when I get it back and disclose whether or not the complaints have been fixed or if there are any new problems. Hopefully this helps anyone trying to decide whether to RMA their unit or not.
intresting. Please keep us posted on the updates. let us know what is fixed!
mine says Waiting-[WB5] Wait for Repair\Test\Aging
<troll>
Wait, you returned this because of no-GPS and slight backlight bleed...Really? You must have known GPS wasn't working
Even the IPAD 2s have backlight bleed...
</troll>
None the less, good luck, curious how the RMA is going to go.
I am going through my own trials with them. I bought my Prime on the 20th and and received it on the 21st. On the 24th I was at school and opened the tablet (I have the TF201 Dock) and there was a single pristine crack in the screen. Tablet has no abrasions or dents so it is obvious it was not dropped and I am a bit over protective of a new device for the first few months. I think I just got a bad piece of glass, that or the dock is not designed very well. But since the basic design of the Prime dock is the same as the original Transformer I find that hard to believe.
So they received the tablet in TX Friday. Sat in Waiting yesterday. Today it showed they wanted to confirm repair OOW. I called and asked them ??? and they said it was "expertly analyzed" and found to be customer induced damage. I stayed calm and responded with "the table has been treated like it was priceless. The screen cracked when I closed the tablet while in the ASUS made dock. There are no indications of droppage on the tablet and I find it unacceptable to charge the customer for the repair of what is most likely a manufacturing defect."
Now I am waiting 24-48 to hear from a supervisor. Now if I had dropped the tablet I would be like, ok I screwed up. But I did not. And I did buy ADC insurance from Square so I can get it fixed for free, but I am not going to have them fix something I believe is a manufacturing defect. Guess we will see what ASUS customer support is really made of in the next 24-48 hours. Hate having the tablet for 2 days then spending 2 weeks without it. It's like a big tease! lol

Sounds really weird to be cracking on its own. You'd need to be in very high heat or below/near freezing temps to induce it by nature.
Did someone damage it without you looking? BB gun, threw something, etc. Things can't suddenly crack outta nowhere, but this is pure conjecture of course.
First in the line of a major manufacturing defect?
my touch screen wasnt working and usb didnt work

I wish someone had hit it or I dropped it, I could have just sent it in for Accident repair but I have to try ASUS first because SquareTrade says it is a manufacturing defect if I did not drop the tablet.
Basically I took the tablet, in the dock and closed it. Placed is in a padded neoprene sleeve. Set the tablet and the sleeve on the passenger seat next to me (where it did not move and I hit no pot holes or anything crazy). Drove from work to school. Picked up the tablet and took it inside. Took it out of the sleeve and opened it. BAM crack. Could barely see it from the front on view. I think I just got a bad piece of glass. I have owned the Evo 4G and I own the Evo 3D and a Kindle Fire. All gorilla glass and I have had no problems (granted smaller screens). I attached 2 pics of the crack. (Yes I know there is a sword in one )

Clearly looks like a defective screen. Don't see any indication of impact to me. They should repair it.
It would take a lot of force to induce that

I would guess that a serous amount of flex in the tablet would be required to have that happen. Gorilla Glass however is often misunderstood as break resistant when it actually breaks quite easily. It is hardened glass that is SCRATCH resistant, and not even all that scratch resistant. My daughter scratched the screen on one of my phones with a cheap ring, and she wasn't mishandling it at all, just playing a game. have seen rants about Gorilla Glass breaking on phone placed in their back pants pocket, which is so stupid I can't imagine what they were thinking.
Your glass may indeed have been stressed by the bezel, and assembly, and could easily have been defective, when you consider how many Prime Asus was cranking out in December. If it was stressed in it's frame, and you went out in the cold it could have contributed to its failure. You said you opened it at school. This is important: How did you transport it? In a sleeve/case or just Dock/Tablet in backpack? My thinking is it was stressed, and only took some additional flex or twist to have it snap.
Stand your guns, and just mention ONCE that there are no dents marks or abrasions on the tablet casing. Just calmly (as possible, I know how infuriating CSRs can be) ask for a supervisor, explain that the dock was attached the whole time, and no "accidents" "drops" or anything else occurred. MOST IMPORTANT: Ask : What exactly is the "expert analysis" that was done? Was the glass measure at multiple points with a digital micrometer? What evidence do THEY have to suggest customer induced damage?
Yeah I worked as a CSR for 6 or 7 companies over the years. I can generally remain calm as I remember that they are just following their script and typically have little to no power to do anything other than escalate. I am awaiting a call from a Supervisor which should happen in the next 24-48 hours (which that is not an acceptable practice in mine eyes) so I will see what happens there. I plan on mentioning the lack of ANY drop damage. It's become a matter of principle now. In the end Square Trade will fix it for free but I don't think they should have to.
As for Gorilla Glass. It is hardened glass and can break (albeit not nearly as easy as normal glass) and it's scratch resistance is good but not impermeable. And the solid aluminum frame of the table would have to bend for the screen to bend enough to break. Despite the GPS issue (which I do not care about) and Wi-Fi issue (which I really did not notice any problems aka no worse than any of my other devices) I really like the build and solid feel of the tablet. I'll update once I speak to a supervisor and see what happens.

Mine says this too. This means they need a new part. Well they told me that. They are now looking for a replacement. But 64GB Gray is hard to find for them...
Mine is similar. Sent 1-8 and shows they received 1-14. Asked in email yesterday the status and today got an email that it was being replaced. Serial starts now with C10. I am supposed to receive tomorrow and not sure if I'm going to open or just sell / return it. I was hoping they tested before sending but sounds like according to OP that they don't. Kind of a bummer. Mine went back due to a screen chip on original shipping. wifi was fine and GPS was ok though I never drove with it.
So Tuesday I checked my Status to find (low and behold) that is was on hold for customer induced damage/out of warranty repair.
I called customer support and explained to them that the tablet was not dropped and was secured in padded materials during transport, etc. I was told it would be escalated to ASUS Corporate HQ and someone would call me in 24-48 hours. I briefly told him having to wait up to 2 days for someone to contact me was a poor practice. He made a note in my ticket. I waited 48 hours and guess what? NO CALL.
So I called back this morning. Got a rep and the call started bad. I had to give him every piece of information about me again as if I was starting a new RMA despite him having the RMA ticket open in front of him. I then explained I had waited 24-48 hours and not gotten a call from a Supervisor and that I was starting to get upset at the support I am receiving. I got the standard "I apologize for your frustration" and he checked and the RMA was passed to HQ on the first. I asked why it sat around for a day before being passed and he did not have an answer. So 24-48 hours is now 48-72 hours.
By this time my infinite pools of calm are about out. Then he asks me for my phone number so someone can contact me because they don't have. Refer to earlier when I gave him my information (including number) for the second time since this started.
Yesterday I also received an e-mail from the repair center stating the price for fixing the tablet ($186 for the screen and $65 for labor) and a form I could fill out for payment. Really a form to fax in? Are we back in the 90s. I sent them a long e-mail explaining why I was not paying for repair and that I was waiting for hear from a supervisor from HQ and the reasons as to why I believe the tablet screen was defective. I have copied that e-mail I sent and plan on using it as my standard response to we don't fix broken screens under warranty.
So I guess every piece of glass ASUS uses is flawless. At least that is what the repair center thinks.
UGH! Update again when I hear from someone.
Updated OP
You sent it in for only a slight backlight bleed? Must've been more than slight to make you want to send it in. Plus going from 0 sat's to just one can barely be called an improvement. Plus a month wait...
Well glad to hear you got device back n satisfied with it. That's all that matters in the end. Not all RMA are nightmares but the post a coupple ones back sounds bad. I'd be pissed off.
I sent my prime back on January 5th. It had all the issues with it. After 25+ days waiting I got a brand new prime! I think I had to wait because I had the 64GB Gray and they did not have these in stock. This prime serial starts out with a "C". Everything has been working perfectly! GPS, WIFI, KEYBOARD, LAG... those were all the issues I sent it in for. WOW is all I can say! This thing works like it is stated on their product page!
GPS needs to be in the window to work but, it works and works well! I not sure what the peoples homes are made of when they can sit in their house and get it to work.
Time to go mess with it more!

Your kidding right? You sent your Prime in to have GPS fixed? There is no fix you cannot use it for navigation what the heck do you care if you can lock on to satellites or not it's irrelevant. You haven't had your Prime for a month and your happy with Asus?..... ROFL

Cracked Screen after 1-week

Had phone since the Sunday it was released...screen has developed a crack at the bottom, just above the capac. buttons going completely across the screen.
Everything still works fine, but is obnoxious to look at.
Heres the thing... (and I know people will doubt this) but I haven't dropped the phone at all. Not even set it down roughly. This morning, everything was normal...went to go to work and put it in my bag by itself (correction - only other thing in there was a book and a wool hat). Got to work, took my phone out and BLAM, crack stretching from one side to the other. No marks around the bumpers or anything. I'm completely nonplussed at what could have happened. My thinking is flex *could* have done this, but that seems like it'd need a hell of a lot of pressure to do.
Well, ATT won't cover it, samsung won't cover it and the quoted repair cost is $200. Deductible for ATT phone insurance is...you guessed it...$200 (or $250 can't remember).
Anyone have any luck with these flybynight screen repair shops? I don't think they'd have the parts in stock for the phone since it is new and kind of a fringe product.
I'm seriously pissed...hung around with my iphone 3g for 3 years waiting for a good phone to upgrade to..finally blow my upgrade and a week later blam.

A paperback book could do that? Thats actually very concerning to me as a consumer. I'm extremely cautious with my electronics (ask my wife, she will eyeroll ) and to have something like this occur without any strenuous contact being made with the phone is appalling.
First Samsung phone, and unfortunately will most likely be my last. It looks and operates flawlessly and was exactly what I wanted... but I can't for the life of me see spending that kind of money on something that can essentially break through such light use.

buy a replacement from ebay and fix it yourself. shouldnt be too difficult, I have replaced my iphones and my sensations screen and they pretty much were the same
I tried looking on ebay for a replacement, but perhaps I'm searching for the wrong thing...
can you share a link?
After calling just about every ATT store in town and explaining the problem, I found one willing to exchange it for a new one no questions asked.
I'm still worried about the durability of the phone since nothing major occurred that should cause this amount of damage. Hopefully I just had a defective screen or something and this one will last me a long, long time.
i carry my note in my pocket (I'm a big guy) it rides in the front pocket all day was case-less for the first week i mean i worked played and goofed off with it there can't even tell. i think u just got a bad glass display it is mass produced product and defects do happen.
I myself was very impressed with the build quality of the phone how sturdy it felt despite its lack of depth. So i'd just be aware and keep ur books away from it
should probably just start storing my books on the damn thing

Im guessing you just had a faulty screen. Gorilla glass can take some serious pressure, and is even pretty damn good at shock resistance. I've dropped my old captivate and infuse countless times without a case and never cracked a screen. Hell, last summer my captivate took a kick from a full grown horse when it was in my pocket, and the screen survived. The hoof hit the back of my captivate, bent the backplate and battery, but the screen was fine. It saved me from a huge bruise, that's for sure.
I think you will be fine with a new device, because it sounds like a faulty screen. Don't let one faulty Samsung ruin Samsung for you forever. They make great devices, and their screens are matched by none. Other manufacturers are just as likely do have a defective device, you just got really unlucky with your first note.

I have already dropped my note face down on a corner (it was in a speck case and had a clear screen protector on) and knock on wood it was fine. It is very possible that its just a faulty screen. I would pesster the heck out of at&t and samsung til i got a new phone. They will budge you just have to be persistant.

I am anal about my devices also, and the thought of just throwing it in a bag makes me cringe! Always front left pocket for me, no exceptions!

No offense, but if you stuffed your Note in a bag with a book or anything else, you're not really that cautious with your electronics. There's a reason I have never damaged any of my phones or tablets. It's because I don't do things like that.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I "stuffed" it in a bag. The bag in question was a messenger style bag with separate internal pockets, phone was in one, book in the other. Book was a paperback (you can actually see it in my photos) about 200 pages thick.
UPDATE:
Second phone screen cracked. Top of screen near the front camera. Had it less than 24 hours - took it back and they exchanged it again with no issues.
Got it at around 4pm, took it home, put it in case (SGP) and put it to charge, went to the gym and then came home and did some programming for a few hours before bed. Phone stayed on charger the whole time. Next morning I put (note: did not "stuff") the phone into my right front pocket of my jeans (normal jeans, not skinny or anything). It was the only thing in the pocket, had a wallet in my back right pocket and some disposable eye contacts in my left front pocket. Walked about 3 blocks to a lecture checked email on the phone - no crack. sat with it in the pocket (front right) for about an hour and a half, then got up and walked home. Got home took the phone out...crack! About an inch long from the very edge of the glass towards the middle of the phone.
I can't make this stuff up. Took it to the store and they replaced it for me again. Manager said something about maybe they got tussled around during shipment or packing.
Both cracked were white devices. The phone I have now is a black one.
I'm trying to think of reasons why this could have occurred twice. First time could possibly have been from being in the bag, but I wasn't throwing the bag around or anything like that. Second time? Who knows... if walking with a phone in your pocket causes it to break...
I am super thankful that I found a store willing to do the exchanges, and I do love this phone...but what the heck!

Broken Out Of The Box

I received my PadFone via FedEx weds night and pulled the phone portion from the box and charged it swapped my sim over. I've been running it like that till yesterday. I took the tablet portion out and was playing with it in the dock and I noticed the crack.. its from the speaker to the bottom of the tablet catching the corner of the display. I am EXTREMELY careful with my devices and I cannot believe in under 3 hours of use I managed to break Gorilla glass by holding the tablet. Going to Call ATT tomorrow and see about a replacement tablet portion as the Phone it self is fine.
Between the System UI crashes when the phone is inserted or pulled from the tablet and it broken out of the box I am seriously doubting my purchase of another Asus product. Should have learned to stay away from Asus products when my Crosshair V Formula/Thunderbolt mobo came with loose SATA ports... sigh.

That's unfortunate. Are you sure it wasn't damaged in shipping? AT&T shipped my replacement sans padding- litertally just threw it in a box and shipped it (with TONS of open space)

Mine started with those blow up bags. but by the time I got it out of the shipping box more than half where deflated and the padfone box itself is dented in the same corner I have the break. I have a solid case its just getting them realize its their fault and not try to blame me for it.

I'd only say this- don't blame ASUS on the shipping conditions. AT&T is really doing their best to discourage people from being on their network. I'll be making my PadFone unlock request soon and bailing to TMO.

That couldn't POSSIBLY have contributed to the dead pixels you've been mentioning, could it? Of course not.

I normally would never blame the vendor for a shipping error. but my blaming was more about the System UI failing and fact the glass on the tablet is so thin. I made a living for a while fixing broken digitizers and lcd's and broken cell phones in general and the glass on the asus is to thin. Just holding hte tablet it feels completely bendable, my Acer A501 is rock solid in its feel. Maybe its because the glass is already broken on the Asus that feels as flimsy as it is, but still that speaks to a lack of support. The glass should never be structural on a tablet.

Ah. Yeah, can't argue there. I've got a new issue with mine where it won't autoreconnect to the network. Also my brightness sensor doesn't seem to work. I'll post later with logcats.

I have a list of complaints, prolly a quarter mile long.... BUT as this device is rare in its ability to be a phone when i need a phone and be a tablet when i need a tablet i will deal with the little things i dislike as long as it works. last day or so its gotten very picky about wifi networks its got horrible connection to $1200 a piece wireless access points that everything connects full power to. and the popup about the WiFi being weak is just.... ugh i know its weak i don't need a popup that depending on what i'm doing causes a SystemUI crash. Sigh so much disappointment in such a little space.

Scratched screen out of the box (T-Mobile)

Just opened my brand new S6 Edge from T-Mobile and the screen has about 6 small scratches and 1 decent scratch on the top left of the screen.
You can barely feel them with your finger but if you hold it on an angle you can seem them.
On the phone with T-Mobile to have them send me a replacement.
On a side not this phone is beautiful. The display is AMAZING!!

Could you be any more nerdy???
I don't have time to take pictures and was just putting this out there to warn people to look closely at their screen.
The 6 or so little scratches I found are very light but absolutely there.
T-Mobile is overnighting me a replacement.
For the record it was a S6 Edge in black 32GB
I just checked my black 128gb one and it has a perfect screen,

Proof!!!
Why the eff would I need to have proof? You do not make any sense. Stop posting your nerdisms. HAHA
Just letting people know to check their screens under a bright light to make sure there are no scratches.
My phone does.
Even if I wanted to take a picture it would be hard to capture anyway. They are very fine small scratches.

Why is it so hard to believe his phone arrived with a few scratches? Every company has a few defects slip through QC.
I'm not trying to light a match here because I am a new member, is it really xda's thing to asuume everything negative posted without pictures means there lying.
Maybe I'm old, (I am) but I always thought forums were about a community for help and support and a way for people with like minded interests to come together. If that's the case I imagine I should just stay a lurker taking advantage of the developers Roms and not offering any input or help to others.
Bit of a sad world we live In if this is how we now define a community.
Guess I just still live in a different time.
I believe. I've had the same issue with Samsung and Other companies in the past. Just one of those things that can happen during assembly. Good thing is that they will replace it because it's a manufacturer defect.
Anyway thanks for the heads up. Good to know to look for this when I go get mine on the 10th.

and dumbass comments like that are the reason so folks have actually left, or are afraid to post useful info... because they are ridiculed by those who have nothing better to do.

If you actually followed the conversation, you would see that the member threw insults at me for no apparent reason. So I guess if you believe that is allowed and permitted, then by all means....
My replacement is scratched up as well.. wtf
Same problem here. About half a dozen small hairline scratches in mine (128GB black). Not a huge deal, but I'm paying almost a grand for this phone, so I want it to be perfect.
Got a replacement coming, so hopefully it's alright. If not, I may just exchange it for the normal S6. Might be a manufacturing problem with the curved screen.
There is another thread in the general section with several people reporting the same problem. Not sure if samsung or tmobile is to blame but it is clearly a problem.
My phone actually had scratches on the back and light bleed by the bottom left corner. Im on the phone with tmobile but they are telling me the system wont recognize my phone's imei, possibly due to the phone not being officially released yet. They want me to order a new phone and return this one, and I will be credited. Wtf how are you guys getting phones overnighted? I reported the damage one the 2nd full day and according to the rep there is a three day grace period for damaged or defective goods.

Too late. I was just so frustrated that I followed their instructions. I ordered one with next day shipping and was told my original order would be completely refunded, including shipping costs. So it will be a wash in the end, but I probably won't get the new phone until tomorrow and I am not sending this one back until I get the other one.
I will say that my phone came with a small scratch by the multitasking button but at this point I don't care. I was mad at first but I hate calling to complain.
My 32GB black one came yesterday (4/2) with overnight shipping and it had a couple of scratches on the screen and top bezel. Not deep enough to affect viewing on the display but noticeable when the screen is off and you see the phone in certain angles under lights.
Like the previous poster mentioned, the scratches are not all in one direction or in a pattern. Mine happen to go diagonally on different parts of the phone. I am guessing it is because the plastic front and back glass protector it ships in is not fully attached to the phone. It's like a plastic sleeve with a open top and bottom so the phone has a little room to slide around against the plastic as the box is thrown around delivery trucks. Mine came in a shipping envelope instead of a box so even the box with the phone in it had room to move around as it went through UPS.
These initial scratches are not a deal breaker for me for now though. The more concerning part is that it appears there has been no improvement in terms of anti-scratching/Mohs scale with Gorilla Glass 4. So my concern is how the phone will hold up over time without a screen protector if it was scratched so easily before I even got it.
