pretty obvious solution but some people may not know.
Take the plastic microsd card that came with the tablet, cut about 1/3 of it off the back end (preferably at a 45 degree angle to create a wedge), put in your microSD card, slide that 1/3 peice in on top.
it should be in there pretty snug now.
I did this and my microsd card never comes out in my bookbag now.
A bit of a ghetto fix, and it makes it a little more difficult to remove your sd card, but hey - it stays in there and you'll probably never notice.
Would post pics but my tf201 is my camera.
By the way - make sure the tablet recognizes your card before sliding the wedge in.
Maybe the cards are made differently, but it's been tried before, with poor results.

I think he means take the dummy card and use a part of it as a wedge, no sanding of the card with the memory needed.
I had my 64 gig card shoot out onto the side walk last week, fortunately I saw it happen.
Got me thinking that maybe the retention spring is a little stronger on the prime as this thing flew at least 3 feet.
I'll give this a try. Thanks
Good idea about wedging. I think I'm gonna go with riuber tape route. Gonna cut a few strips and either place it on top and another strip on the bottom of the slot. So the card will be more flushed but still can be easily take out. Will post results.
EDIT: My mod seems to be sufficient but probably will post in another thread. Dont wanna hijack this one unless OP is ok with it.
wow didnt even know this was an issue, mine has never fallen/popped out yet.
will be on the lookout now though, thanks for the heads up guys.

Ah, read through that way too fast. I wonder whether having additional pieces in the slot would create issues. Still, seems like a solution that could work.

its not a design flaw. it was made to be easy access. Also there is size constraints.
Also to the op, i would not be telling people this. Especially when you get to large size cards where the WHOLE card is the flash memory. Someones going to look at this post and destroy their $50-100 32gb sd card.

Ouch, admission of flaming lol
My card has come "unsprung" once so far. Luckily it did not fly out onto the floor, I noticed it sticking out too far as I was putting the tablet down.
I'm really just getting tired at the number of issues with this thing. The more I use it the more it becomes clear we are Asus' beta testers.

wha'ts to flame? its true. Using a piece of plastic to make a friggen wedge to wedge your card in place? Why wedge you card in place? Because it pops out. Why does it pop out? Because when the card is inserted it is not flush but sticks up several mm and can get hit and popped out as many have found. Why? A design flaw.
So, this is a ghetto fix (just like the people using tape to tape their cards into place or a beer can to fix GPS) and it is a design flaw as no other device I have ever seen or owned has a card that is not flush and sticks up when inserted. None.

WTF you talking about? I guess you failed to read the original thread of dozens of people losing theirs cards as the cards stick out the top of the slot and get randomly ejected.
Find me 1 other microSD card slot device where the card sticks out like this and is not flush.
Bah.. this is 100% a design flaw. No device has a card slot that allows the card to stick up like this design does.
As for "design constraints" really? what? you telling me they could not have moved down the reader a few MM on the board to make the card flush with the case? bah.

you clearly don't know how much of a ***** it was to get the microsd card out of the original transformer, you had to take a knife and press the back of the card to get it spring out.
In fact, the reason they probably designed it this way was because of complaints like this one in an attempt to satisfy everyone.
Big mistake on Asus's end, because they'll always get whiners.
If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem. I posted a solution for those that are bothered by the redesign. If you don't like it I'm not asking you to, but whining about what asus did or didn't do isn't doing anything to keep your microsd card from falling out.
So as far as I'm concerned this is off topic

Yeah so I guess the 4 threads or so on this topics & 3-4 different hacks to keep the card in place & the many people who reported losing their cards means there is no problem.
I would take a flush - yes FLUSH fit - any day like they are designed to be like other phones & cameras & GPS units & mp3 players and.... hell a recessed fit that requires a fingernail is better than this setup.
Look at the numerous flaws in this tablet.... you really think this non recessed or flush card was possibly on purpose?? Bah they did not get certain critical aspects right - GPS & wifi - you think they sat around and decided this was a better setup than the tf101? Having it stick out of the case??
I'm not whining .... I'm countering the farce of a belief that 1. This isn't a design flaw and 2. Making a home made wedge isn't a hack to fix a design flaw.

We get it, the device isn't perfect. Are you done with first world problems or would you like to keep speculating that Asus is sitting around a table trying to think of ways to **** you out of 500 dollars?
Just saying, none of this is going anywhere.
Its not a design flaw, the microSD card slots was intentionally designed so that the cards sticks out a millimeter in order to make it easy to get out.
The people who have had problems with their cards popping out (I saw about a half dozen people complaining of this problem, not dozens) probably just need to be a little more careful with their device. The Prime is relatively fragile, you shouldn't just toss it into a book bag or something.
I have had a microSD card in the side if my Prime for over 4 months now and it has fallen out or been accidentally ejected a total of zero times.
This is a situation of one or two people experiencing an issue and then everybody jumping into the ***** pool to complain about it.

Since I can't afford 32GB MicroSD card, I'm looking for some alternatives.
I've just found out about "SD to MicroSD/TransFlash Card Converter Module" (search it on ebay, I'm not allowed to post links here). I already have 32GB SDHC card, but will it work with Touch Pro2?
I don't think there's enough room under the battery cover for that converter and an SD card.
I didn't buy a Touch Pro2 yet, so I think that I must consider some other phone.
But generally, is this converter going to work? MicroSD male end of this thing looks kind of thin, so should I attach it to MicroSD-shaped piece of plastic or something like that? Sorry if those questions sound stupid, but I really don't have any kind of experience in this field.
I think you would be best not trying to use this converter on any phone, unless you want to use it only once a day or so. To use this on a TouchPro2/Tilt2 you would have to cut a hole in the battery cover where the slot is located, and then you would have to have a delicate piece of plastic stick out at a right angle to the phone by 1-1&1/2 " to catch on EVERYTHING around it. I can't imagine this on a phone that is designed to slide into my pocket. Heck, I can't bring myself to leave usb sticks connected to my laptop when I am not using them. They catch on things.
I don't quite understand what you are trying to do. Do you want any old phone that lets you use 32gig cards? What other features do you want?
It isn't always the case, but there is frequently a relationship between quality and cost. The less you spend the odds are that you will not have as reliable, functional, or feature-laden of a product.
Admittedly I don't know a lot about most cell phones. What I do know makes me VERY suspicious of this working. My old MotoQ9c would take a miniSD card, but it wouldn't take a full sd card. All of the phones I've seen that use the microSD format have the card hidden inside and make that converter seem less than ideal. Some even put the card under the battery itself.
You COULD plug this into my old Samsung Ace phone and just move the cover to access it, but it would still stick out and be a major pain to use.
Good luck, whatever you do.
I search and don't see anyone else complaining...
But my P500h is new and the battery is tight and I'm continuing to have "adventure" I don't want to have when removing it.
Originally I tried a thin blade screwdriver in the holes to left and right of battery to pry the battery up. But plastic was getting chewed and at one point I had a SPARK ! LOL.
So I wrapped electrical tape around battery to help pull it out but it threatens to break the tape with the force needed.
So now I use my screwdriver carefully just under the SDCard and it works but I worry about slipping and messing something up.
So am I alone with this problem ? Any good way to "grease" the battery, but not too much ?
Thanks !
No problem as such. I press hard with my nail near sdcard (bottom) downword I see there's a slit on battery at that place. Press down and pull up.

Thanks 4silvertooth; I seem to recognise your username.
My SDCard is at the top to left of the camera when looking from the back with Android buttons down and headphone jack up.
I don't see any slits on the battery, just a tiny ledge at the top that I guess my screwdriver catches on. But sooner or later I will wear that off.
I just removed the tape, and it might be a bit easier to remove now, although there is some dangerous battery metal showing.
Perhaps I could wrap the battery with something stronger than electrical tape... Like those fabric like things used to pop AA etc batteries out of devices.
Well, huh... Are you sure you have the right battery inserted the right way? Because, there should not be any trouble getting it out at all. Let alone screwdrivers or anything like that needed. Goes out pretty easily with a fingernail.

It's the battery I got with the phone, and that the sales dude installed for me, and the phone works, so yes.
I get the impression my Canadian Telus P500h (Note the 'h') is different than the P500 most of you have.
This is the phone with battery installed. To the left is the phone top, and the thin blade screwdriver is over the SDCard and pointing to where I am prying the battery out. The pens at top and bottom of the pic are where I originally pried and now have broken plastic and some semi-exposed battery metal. At top of the pic (right of the phone) is where I got the sparks.

So I'm guessing from your descriptions of how easy it is, that there must be one or more things different on my phone.

You think ? It's an integral part of the back body and can't be removed without breaking stuff. Right now I can't even tell if it's the up and down or left and right that are most tight. Maybe both.
And even if it was removed, the battery has no slot at the end for a fingernail. Just a slight indentation over most of the end. With the force I need to remove the battery, I think lots of people would break their fingernail.
I've just marked this down as one of the engineering shortcuts that LG made to make a phone like this for $200. Having to pull that stupid battery out every SIM change or new ROM boot freeze is getting old fast.

I blew up your pic and it's hard to see, but I think I see a fingernail slot in your battery by the SDCard. Mine has no slot, just a very subtle indentation.
And my battery makes a very clear SNAP sound when I push it in. Perhaps my battery is slightly different and a bit larger than P500 batteries.
My battery part # is LGIP-400N . It also says 1500 mAh 5.6 Wh 3.7v
and at bottom it says:
(T)SBPL0102301 LLL DC101203
Even your camera says 3.2 mine it says 3.0 so anybody with same specification would be helpfully.
The battery details are exact identical to mine.
So P500h is slightly different from P500.

No I'm afraid this is not a joke. And I've been working "seriously" with electronics/computer since I was a teen in the mid 1970's building everything from a vacuum tube transmitter to micros with the first generation of micros: SCMP, 8080...
And I've rebuilt automotive turbochargers and transmissions so I'm no mechanical klutz either.
Yes I know this is slowly wrecking the battery which I why I posted. In primary school I was the "smart kid" who was the only one to question something weird or incomplete the teacher said because everyone else didn't want to look "dumb" by asking. Same here.
My personal history aside I do exactly what you say: "put you finger on the spot right below the SD Card, push your battery downwards then pull it towards you."
It doesn't work on my phone. The battery doesn't move down that I can notice. When I try to pull it towards me it just won't budge and threatens to break my fingernail.
I note that there are two little tabs at the bottom. These seem to require the bottom to be placed first, then the top gets pushed in last. That's when I get a loud SNAP. I think whatever is making this SNAP is also what makes it so hard to remove the battery. The same SNAP was also made by the sales dude in the store when he installed the battery and I'm sure he does that hundreds of times a week.
The instructions in the manual are quite bad, IMO. They didn't even mention all the little film things that should be removed. Perhaps there is something else that needs to be removed that the manual didn't mention or that I overlooked. Just stabs in the dark here now.
Well, PEBKAC case excluded, since noone apparently has similar problem, then either your phone is faulty or the battery is faulty. This simply is not normal, there is absolutely no need to use screwdrivers and excessive force to do this.
Would suggest to RMA the thing.

Well, I have seen quite a bunch of phones almost impossible to even open. I recall one Nokia which I felt I will crush completely trying to remove the back cover. Tremendous force required. So trust me when I am saying that this one is about the most easy one to remove the back cover and the battery.
If it really bothers you since you are changing SIM cards frequently, would suggest going to some shop and test with another battery or two. If it is the battery, those are relatively cheap to get a replacement. If it is the phone, well... your screwdriver-scratched battery has nothing to do with that defect so you should not have any trouble trying to RMA it.

Yes, some good ideas.
SIMs are not the major issue. Trying ROMs that result in boot freezes are the main reason to keep popping the battery.
I wish there was a hidden hardware reset switch on these phones somewhere.
Heck, it wouldn't be hard for the designers to make such a feature that triggered by holding power, or some combinations down for 10+ seconds.
I'd buy a replacement battery off eBay for cheap. At worst you end up with the same situation and a spare battery for 5 USD or so (+ VAT or whatever y'all call it). At best you have a better-fitting battery on the cheap.
Anyone have any issues with this? I tried to put my new card in the second time around and it doesn't lock into place. Faulty spring!?!?
i didnt have an issue, but found that the spacer they included was very hard to get out. i had to press on it just right. so keep trying and you should get it to lock. make sure when you have the device in landscape with the cam at top, that you are inserting the card with the contacts pointing towards the back. good luck.

Not exactly sure how to move apps to SD as I've never played with Honeycomb. However, if you want to run apps off of SD you're better off with a class 4 card as they have significantly better random R/W speeds as opposed to class 10 which have abysmal random read/write and faster sequential read/write times for fast copying. Just FYI....that is unless there has been a significant improvement of class 10 cards in the last few months.
This may be the answer to our question as to why we can't move apps to SD ...
The following is from another forum. "There's no "move to SD card" option on Asus Transformer Prime Honeycomb because all internal storage is available for apps. "

Honey comb does not let you put apps on the SD card unlike gingerbread. I never liked that on my first Transformer but i found this app (gl to sd )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328053
worked great I did need to do a reboot after first install. Saved me 8 Gb of space.
~27gb of internal storage should be plenty for apps, if you have a bunch of music or movies, just put those on the uSD card.
as for the slot, mine seems to work fine, make sure you aren't putting it in upside down though, as i did that twice (not all the way in, but started to put it in upside down) with the blank.
I think it's a spring/lock issue. It basically can't stay in and like someone mentioned earller, it would launch right back out. If I hold it in with my finger, the Prime will register that a card is in, and in theory I can view what is on it. Not that I was trying to jam it in but I may have dislodged the locking mechanism or something.
I called Gamestop (where I bought it) and they put me on the list for the 1/11 shipment so if I can't get it fixed by then, I can swap it for a new one. ASUS referred me to Gamestop and their replacement plan would have taken just as long if not longer.
Would be awesome if someone could post some pictures of how to correctly insert the MicroSD card.
As dumb as it sounds it could help lot of people
I would If I had my Prime.

i didnt have an issue, but found that the spacer they included was very hard to get out. i had to press on it just right. so keep trying and you should get it to lock. make sure when you have the device in landscape with the cam at top, that you are inserting the card with the contacts pointing towards the back. good luck.

My problem exactly. It wouldn't come out no matter how many times I pressed it in.
I eventually resorted to using an exacto type knife, a mini screwdriver and a pencil compass point. The knife just tore up the spacer and the compass point just dented the spacer further. But the screwdriver worked.
If you have the same problem try this -
Find a small electrical screwdriver with approximately the same width end as the spacer, this should be fairly blunt so as not to damage the spacer.
In one corner gently press the spacer in with the screwdriver, this may or may not feel like the spring mechanism has compressed, if it doesn't feel like it will depress any further you are far enough in! At the same time manipulate the spacer away from the metal edge.
This is about angles! If the spacer is manipulated to the right angle it should just pop out on releasing the pressure but you need to guide it in the right direction. If it doesn't work on the first corner try the second.
Hopefully your spacer should just pop out.
It seems to me that the placement of the micro sd slot in the tablet is critical, one degree off square and the spacer butts up against the inside of the metal case.

The easiest way to explain it is the gold pins on the card need to face the back of the Prime, the white writing of brand and capacity should be facing the same direction as the screen.

My experience was insane, after reading of the microSD issues I pushed mine in but it never clicked. It seemed "seated" but my TF201 did not detect it so I pushed it in more and more until it "disappeared"! I guess it never entered the slot (either over it or under). I had to open the TF201,
Shake it and it feel out. I'm apprehensive about trying it again, but want to flash the CM rom due to the Onskreen multitasking app.
I am just wondering how many people ejected their sd card on accident because of how far it sticks out from the edge. I already had mine pop out in my bag. Scared the hell out of me because it is a 16gb card!
Had mine fall out and didn't even realize, someone just happened to walk by and saw an sd card on the floor, I would have definitely lost it if they never saw it...thinking of trying some tape to keep it in there
Nope. Mine stays in. I am aware that due to the slopping edge of the Prime, the microSD card does stick out a little more than it should. I don't touch it.
Bye.

Me too
Mine stays in too. Just be cognizant of the fact that it can get ejected if you bump it, or sit the tablet on that edge (why anyone would rest the left edge of the tablet on anything is beyond me. Then, don't bump it. If you DO bump it, get your card, cause it just fell out. Basic rules of observation and taking cautions with an obviously compromised bit of design. They could have easily had the slot/socket mounted a tiny bit deeper.
Oh, and if someone tell it its a great idea to file down the edge of a Micro SD card, say, a 32 Gb Class 10? Just a LITTLE? And while you are doing it you immediately see a it of copper exposed? That's a bad thing. Do not ask how I come upon this information. I do NOT want to talk about it.
Hello,
I read on another thread that it could be efficient to put some silicone (after the SD is in of course), just on the outlet of the hole.
When it dries, it can be peeled and taken of, and it put a little more strength for holding the microSD in place...
Has anyone tried?

discussion thread for this issue is here, along with some proposed workarounds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436546
I have a very specific question with regards to replacing the charging port on the i777. I have searched threads discussing charging port replacement, but was unable to find anything about this specific issue. I am currently going through my first repair on my i777 that needs a new charging port. I bought the replacement on ebay, but something stood out once I compared it to the original charging port I took out. On the original there is a small rubber piece hanging down (around where the screw holes are). On the replacement piece it's just a metal piece hanging down in the same place. Do I need to have that rubber piece on the replacement charging port? Would it even affect the functionality of the phone? Is there a way to take the rubber piece off the original and transfer it to the replacement, or should I just buy one with the rubber piece on? If someone has asked this question already forgive me, but I did not see it in the thread I skimmed through.
Here is a pic of both them side by side. The top one is the original and the bottom is the replacement I got from ebay.

It would not let me post link yet so just remove parentesis and spaces to view picture link.
That gray part is for waterproofing the microphone I believe. It just slides off of the old part and onto the new one, just be careful. Also if you have no signal, by now you may have already found the following thread. I had to do this a couple of weeks ago to get a signal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950114&page=5 I'll try harder to match up the part numbers next time!
iXNyNe, please let us know if the newegg part works, or if you end up needing to modify it (see link in above post), or purchase another.

i'll report back once i have them
i already took the phone apart just to peek around inside, the part looks just like what's already there. the picture shows some teal/aqua colored tabs towards the bottom, im assuming these are peel off for an adhesive (there did seem to be an adhesive holding the part in place).
based on that link mentioned i would say that cutting is a little extreme, it looks like they cut the board in half, which is definitely NOT how it comes stock.
again i'll report back once i've got the chips. and for under $8 with free shipping i cant really complain even if they dont work out.
The only thing you're actually cutting (electronically) is the ground plane of the board shared by the antenna/radio and the charge port. In short, there's a super low risk of messing anything up, unless you use a sawzall to complete the job.
I assume that it was more cost effective for Samsung to put those items on the same board, but it's a punk move to attach a known replacement part to an antenna that varies by region. Either way, I'm glad to know that the hack is an option but I'd be happier to know that the hack isn't necessary.

Just wanted to report success. The part from new egg worked and was really easy to swap.
I don't have the right size sim card anymore since switching my primary carry, so I can't test reception, but otherwise everything is working (charging, wifi, Bluetooth, etc)
P.s. I did not modify the item I received (no cutting) and it is a 2.3 where the original I removed was a 2.2. I've saved the 2.2 just in case something comes up.

Thanks, but I'm afraid that we won't know whether the replacement part is a proper replacement until there is a sim-card involved. Reception is the rub (see post below from the board-mod thread).

I'll see if I can find a friend with a full size Sim over the next few days and test the reliability. But honestly I'd have to it may be better for people to find a rev 2.2
But for anyone who no longer uses the phone for cell service, the new egg part works great for a cheap and easy charge port replacement.
