Sorry for the noobness. I'm hoping someone can help me out. Yesterday I flashed my Bell/Virgin SGS2 with the new XXLPQ (polish version) of ICS.
Everything is working except one of the most important things. Wifi Hotspot. When I try to connect my tablet to it or my netbook, it says that they are connected, seems to assign an IP address but neither my laptop or my tablet have an internet connection. When I switch back to my router, everything is fine.
I'm using unlocked and rooted SGS2 with the XXLPQ firmware and modem on the Fido network. Also, my roaming icon is constantly on, but I understand that's due to Fido-Rogers network ID protocols.
Can anyone advise? I'm ready to flash this thing back to original FW.
THanks!

Hi,
This might be specific to my provider(Airtel) or city (Bangalore, India) so please excuse me for sending to such a wide audience. But I hope its specific to phone and there is a solution.
I keep loosing my 3g connectivity on this phone. It comes and goes and has now basically become a reliability issue. Most of the times I need to deactivate the data network mode and activate it back.
Has anyone else also noticed this?
It's because where you live 3G service is unstable, same with me also, it goes back to H+.
Regards.
or maybe you should try and change your modem.
try flashing KH1 or KH3, see if it matters..
Thanks for the responses. If its related to network, I guess I don't have a choice. About flashing the ROM, I have not yet rooted the phone and lies is still on KF3, so guess I will wait for the next update and hope things will improve.
I had some similar problems here in The Netherlands... I use a provider that is 'roaming' on another provider's network (for those who are familiar: I use Telfort, which roams on the KPN network).
The current CSC I have in my phone, is a specific CSC for The Netherlands (XENKE1). However, it keeps losing 3G connectivity over time, and I also need to reset the connection to get it back working.
For now I can solve this issue by manually selecting the operator instead of automatic operator selection. You might want to try this, it worked for me at least.
Thanks gscjot. Your solution seems to have worked. In last 20 odd hours I had to manually restart the 3g service only once. So I guess this is actually not a issue with the phone itself but the operator. Thanks a lot.
It might have something to do with the modem or CSC that is in the phone. I am currently on stock 2.3.3 but I tried Darky's rom as well (on 2.3.4). As this ROM has a different CSC, I could leave the network detection on automatic. Only setback then, is that the phone shows 'r' (roaming) on my home network and I have to manually disable 3G when I go abroad.
Best regards,
Gerco

Hmm, NL-KPN here with Polish CSC (OXA, don't ask me why, bought it in NL) but I stream internet radio on my way to work in the car for 70 km without losing connection once, and that includes 2 long tunnels.
All stock KG5 with only cf-root.
Still no relief

Hi,
Can anyone on 2.3.4 comment if they see the same issue as mentioned here. I am again back to my struggling ways and starting to believe that is this a software only issue and courtesy SAMSUNG.
Thanks,
Vishal
Hi Guys,
First post. Nice meeting you.
I was using 2.3.3 Stock firmware with USB Tethering, everything was fine.
I then upgraded it to 2.3.5 (KI3) through Samsung KIES.
Then USB Tethering started to fail. my Windows 7 said there is no internet access (an "!" sign on the connection tray icon)
I then try reactivate this feature from phone, luckily after few attempts, it worked but the speed is very very slow compared to before, how slow?
slower than 56K MODEM!!!
I checked the connection on my galaxy S2 by watching youtube and browsing website! It is completely fine, very speedy! with 3MBps Dn and up speed using speedtest.
but it takes me like 2 minutes just to load a webpage using USB tethering..
Everything was fine before the upgrade.
Please help as I only have this connection, I have no other internet access!!!
Thanks for your help
If your phone is rooted get Barnacle from the market, works perfectly with 2.3.5
Hi,
First, I want USB Tethering, not wifi for absolute speed and no need to spend $ on a wifi usb stick.
Secondly, my phone is not rooted... and why can't I use the USB tethering supported by the phone?
I just dont get it why does it not working since I upgrade to 2.3.5.
Please, someone can help?
all right, looks like I have fixed it.
Basically the new firmware upgrade will create another AccessPointName APN. I just do a reset (restoring to default settings), and viola!
I mean a reset of APN only, not the phone.

ROM : VillainROM 3.0.0
Kernel : Ninphetamine 2.0.5

After applying the fix for Hotspot settings to save in another thread (chown and chmod the /data/misc/wifi) I tried to turn on the hotspot, after all, this was inevitably what I got the phone for, H+ Hotspot.
Now I turn it on and the network appears in my computer, but if I try and connect to it, after I type in the security key, it comes up with "Connecting" and just stays like that permanently...
Eventually it sometimes says "Limited Access".
My phone does have internet connection, but why does it not work.
Does your network allow tethering?
Did it work on another rom?
Have you tried a hard reset?
I'm using tethering on VR but with speedmod kernel with no issues.

Orange in the UK for example use and APN on their SGS2 roms that doesn't allow tethering (you can set up a tethering connection no problem, but the network won't let you have any data).
They also lock the APN down so it isn't editable (insert rude word about Orange)!
You can get round the problem by adding another generic APN for all connections and using that.
i was having the same problem and struggled alll these days for solution. I used to get limited acesses and hence checked the ip4 & ip6 drivers connectivity for solution with no luck.
Then clicked on windows update, after update everything started working. So try to update your windows.
presently i am on turkbey ROM and it is working and also checked with sensation 1.9 and here tooo works!!!!!
Hey all, thanks for all your replies.
Network: 3
Plan: The One Plan +Tethering
Resolved: Yes.
For anyone else wondering how I fixed my problem:
1) Rebooted the phone
2) Rebooted my PC
3) Turned off the WiFi Adapter in my PC
4) Turned it Back On
5) Turned off WiFi on phone
6) Turned Hotspot on without any authentication
7) Worked on PC
8) Changed back to WPA2 PSK
9) Worked with Key.

I had wifi tethering working fine on Orange with SGS running Froyo 2.2.1, but have just upgraded my handset to SGS2 running Gingerbread 2.3.5 (stock XWKI8 firmware), and wifi tethering isn't working now.
As far as I can see I have exactly the same APN settings in my new SGS2 as in the old SGS, but maybe I need to use this new trick.
What do you mean by "adding another generic APN for all connections and using that"? If I add a new APN, what settings do I put in?
Thanks.
hi everyone,
my phone is a GT-I9300, android 4.0.4, Baseband I9300XXLFB (original, stock), Kernel vers. 3.0.15-782020-user[...], Build number IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB.
it seems that Samsung didn't only change the Search function through the update we got last week, but also disabled Tethering (I think).
the update was meant for the US version of S3 where the Tether option is sold separately by the operators but they also released it for the international version. I found Nexus users complainig abt the same issue after update.
does anyone know a fix for this? can someone reccomend a good custom ROM please
Thank you

"my S3 worked fine untill few days ago...I don't know what changed it, but my Wi-Fi doesn't work anymore. it gets connected to the router but I have no transfers (tried it on my router but also in many "public" Wi-FI). also, none of the Tethering options work (haven't tried them before 2 days ago, only after the Wi-Fi issue came up), none of the Wi-Fi, USB or Bluetooth (Tethering gets connected fine, but the connection has the exclamation mark and I have no internet on my PC). It might have happend after Samsung's update fix we got few days ago for searching or something, but I'm not sure."
Wi-Fi is working after I've done a reset on the router...but I don't understand how the hell my router affects other Wi-Fi connections. There seems to be a software glitch with the Wi-Fi somehow.

I tried the *#0011# command and switched off the "WIFI Power Save Mode" but that didn't fix it either.
I suppose it is a software problem as the phone (apparently) worked fine fot 3 weeks (I got it on the 7th July).
did/does anyone have this issue? please help me fix it and also, please reccomend a good custom ROM (or "the best" if there is such thing ).
Thank you very much for any help

According to your description, I'd say that your wifi chip's done
I'd call to local service/place you purhaced the phone and explain the problem.
Warranty should cover that kind of problems.
I have a rooted / unlocked i717 that I recently flashed to the T-Mobile rom and ICS Blaze modem outlined in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30335211
Everything went fine and overall I've been happy except for my phone works a little slower and my battery discharges slightly faster. I noticed today however that I cannot use my phone as a hotspot with the Wi-Fi hotspot tool enabled nor FoxFi. I can see the access point, it will ask for a key, but never connect. When I was using stock AT&T GB before (on T-Mobile as well), I was always successful with FoxFi. It worked well.
Is this an issue with using a T-Mobile rom on my i717? Should I change my rom to the AT&T official ICS and then flash the blaze modem or is it time to visit a custom rom? I use my phone heavily for work, so I don't want to experiment with anything JB at this time. I need something rock steady. I wanted to add that I needed to move from the stock GB because I was getting a annoying reboot issue monthly that made me reset/reload the phone each time. Thanks!

Enter that code into the dialer and turn off "wifi sleep"...
It may just fix your issue ..g

Nope, no luck there. I did notice that under FoxFI, the SSID no longer appeared to my laptop after entering that code. I have noticed that the T-Mobile Tethering and Portable Hotspot tool that is part of the rom does allow my laptop to connect to it but I don't get an IP address. I've been searching around and I have yet to find anyone with a similar issue. I'd hate to go back to GB at this point, but I may have to this weekend if there is no answer as I have a business trip next week
Thanks for your help though!
I did some more reading with some similar issues with the GSII and read about a app called "Wireless Tether for Root Users".

It works great so far. I am relieved.
