Search key used for camera - Motorola Droid X2

Found this little hack., found that just using motcher write up of copy and paste was the easier.. Towards the end of the post.. Good luck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1403013.html

This is a standard setting you can do with cm7 But that does help others that are using other roms.

I did this yesterday, thanks for putting this in here for us! More and more phones are lacking a physical camera button and it really makes no sense.

Build.prop changes limited on Fascinate?

First off everyone here at XDA is amazing and I appreciate all the knowledge everyone brings to the table.
I came from the Droid X and I noticed our build.prop file has nothing in it compared to the X. Does anyone know if there is another place to change some of this stuff (proximity, ring delay, etc.) or is it just locked in the programming? Thanks and sorry if this is a noob question.

I noticed this, and I used to have a Droid. It may be because of Froyo. I'm not sure.

[DEV] Affinity ROM

So just wanted to let everyone know I started development of an X2 rom using a similar approach to Minimal X but keeping in the essential apps, such as the calendar and alarm clock. I'm currently alpha testing my first build right now and its surprisingly stable. Here's what I plan to offer in the first initial release.
-AOSP apps (very minimal blur)
-Launcher2 (rather than moto's launcher)
-Recovery Bootstrap app included with install
-Overclocking (still trying to work out the bugs)
It's not a lot offered above, but will help to eliminate all the bloat and still leave you with a fully functioning experience.
Are there any suggestions you guys have for features that could be added in for the first release or down the road. This is my first ROM and being a PHP developer its a completely different world to me.
Thanks for looking and your feedback.

Gingerbread theme? Also a must have for a rom for me is the blur task killer, blur camera, and blur alarm clock
Beta test
I can also beta test for you. Thx
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Since my weekend is a little busy I probably wont have a beta out to download and test til Monday, but as far as stability, its pretty smooth. I just want to fix a few aesthetics before I release it.

Its mostly Verizon's fault, but putting pressure on Motorola will help get the bootloader unlocked later this year. I think I recall an article that said Motorola will/was considering unlocking their bootloaders later this year. As far as i know unless they do, or we hack all the way around it we can't manipulate the kernel that controls the processor. Someone did get 2nd-init, so now we can port all of the popular roms over, but no dice on kernels yet. Complain to Verizon and Motorola. Its your phone you should be able to with it as you please. Verizon should be posting Sbf with tutorials on how to fix your phone after you over tweak.
As far as the rom goes how about including some hacked apk's or a modified version of the blur cam with search button as the shutter button. Anyway you could get rid of the snap to grid on the home screen icons. Could make some sweet home screens if you could move the icons where ever you want them.
For those that have to have certain applications that came default on the DX2 keep your eyes on this post > http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x2-roms/161753-dx2-apk-grabber.html I am working on an app which includes all of the original files so that you can easily re-add them to a custom rom. This helps the developer keep their rom's slim and allows the end user to only get what they actually want.

+2, as well as Quickoffice...
Well, the phone really is not our own unless we buy it out-right. It's provided at a lower cost for the promise we will keep their service and I think in that case they have the right to lock it down, but on the other side of the coin I think they should give you the option to unlock everything once the contract term is up or if you buy the phone upfront.
I really like the idea of using the search button to take pictures. Sometimes if you hit the on screen button it pulls over the menu instead of snapping the picture which can ruin a kodak moment.
The snap to grid is really annoying. I would like to place the icons anyplace I fancy. And as a final note, we have an SBF with a guide already.
Overclock would be nice

I'd love the ability to kill the current app by long-pressing the Back button.
I'd also like to see power control widgets in the notification bar, but since I have Quick Settings tied to my long-press Search button, that's lower priority.
I'd also be happy to beta this!
I would love to help you test this!

I would be, as well. Not having calendar killed MinimalX2 for me, but I liked everything else about it. And overclocking?

Keyboards with swipe capabilities?

We all know what Swype is. However, I got to wondering if there were alternatives to the famous "Swype." Mostly because of the recent Nuance buyout it made me wonder Swype will always be around and, if it is around, at what price? That got me thinking there has to be alternatives, and so far I've found a few.
I've found Go Keyboard has swipe capability built in, however it seems ungodly inaccurate. I find I have to fight just to get it to type longer words, like sometimes, technologies, bringing, etc.
Likewise, I found SlideIt. It seems very fast, very responsive, and a very decent default dictionary. It seems to hang up for a nanosecond longer than some other keyboards when I fire them up, but once it's up it runs pretty quick.
That said, are there any others out there? Is there any potential for the default Android keyboard to adopt technology like this so all Androids have this capability out of the box?

+2 right here. You need to get v5 of touchpal from here on XDA (it's in this forum) rather than the v4.8 on the market. Usually as accurate as swype, many more features.
Edit: Linky here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261750
Using TouchPal for few days, well it's damn great as a Free app, but there is some word selection problem exists which I already stated in that above thread. Anyway, I used to used T9 Trace on my Wave S8500 and was in love with it, whatever I swiped it used to give me the correct words, quite surprisingly! This built in Swype in Android is far more complicated than that. Some words you could never type on, like Or, What's, That's and a plenty more. I've tried changing the accuracy levels and words suggestion settings but nothing seemed to work out.
Frankly I am still searching for the KB of my liking, don't know if I'll successfully get one ! Something like T9 Trace!
BTW- This thread should be made a Sticky for Swype lovers like me and OP I guess.

HTC Sense Keyboard?

Is there a way I can get a copy of the stock HTC Keyboard on the G2? I miss it so much from my Inspire 4G. I believe it was Sense 2.1. Preferably without rooting?
I believe if you Google HTC keyboard xda you should be able to find something

I have but it seems more complicated than just a quick apk install. The ones I read have some sort of ime which needs to be modified to work without Sense. It seems to be over my head. I'm not a complete noob, I rooted my Inspire 4G but found I prefer stock for what I do. But the keyboard thing really bugs me on this device.
Try looking up jonasl HTC ime because all that was needed was 2 apks to install

I found this which is exactly what Im looking for, are there steps I need to take to make it work? It seems to have some pretty specific instructions and for a different device
I read closer and it wont work. I really like the directional keys on the bottom which the FroYo keyboards floating around dont have.

This is the HTC skin from Smart Keyboard Pro (though it doesn't look as good as the original). It gives the directional keys also (you can use them with any skin). It has a lot of skins to begin with, and you have the option to get more (from the app forum).
There are several options for lookalikes - thumb keyboard comes very close, and I really appreciate the suggestion. But these don't quite do it. I've resorted to Swype till I figure this out. I'm noticing these and the included keyboards don't come with a keyboard hide button either which gets incredibly annoying especially while using the internet browser. Sort of frustrating how a supposedly superior device seems less thought through than the HTC.

It's funny you say that; I made that feature request to the developer of the app I mentioned (which was never implemented). You've piqued my interest in this and I'll be on the lookout.

HTC Sense UI on Droid Razr possible?

Is it possible to install the HTC Sense user interface on my Droid Razr Maxx? I used to have and HTC Sensation and i love the widgets and user interface. I am looking for the Sense interface not just widgets, themes, lunchers that just look like that.
It might be possible to port most of sense, but due to locked bootloader, anything relying on kernel access would not fly. There is a proof of concept ROM porting blur to a thunderbolt. I assume it can be reversed, but I can't see a developer interested in doing so. Its just not a common request.

I could understand wanting Sense over Blur I guess, but with all the other choices out there it's like getting a boob job and trading up from a small A cup to a full A cup.
From now on let me deal with offensive posts, just clikc the report button and avoid any confrontations yourselves, that what what we are here for
