To boot to recovery mode I must be rooted, is this correct?
If no, how can I get to this mode (the one I came to until now I can't choose any installation).
And if yes how do I do, please point me to a direction with noob-manual, thanks.

No, you don't need root for stock recovery. Put the file on an external SD card, turn the phone off, hold both volume keys and press power. Then scroll to the recovery option with volume down, and hit volume up to boot into it. Finally, choose to install zip from SD card, and flash away.

Thanks for that guide, really helped.
But as I do so, first I see the Motorola logo (as always when booting) and then there appears a symbol with the android robot and a triangle shape with a "!" inside an nothing else happens... can you tell me what goes wrong?

Just press one of the volume keys (both?) when you see the Triangle with ! - and you will see recovery menu

If all 2.3.6 ROMS are the same, why the different version numbers? I think the question is valid - he wants to know what's different about this ROM compared to say 651.167.19?
What kind of answer?
I installed via 651.167.26.XT910.Retail.en.EU rsd lite 4 days ago and I just realized that my jack does not work ... I do not know if it comes from the rom (Radio?. Headphones are not recognized. I'm afraid it is a hardware problem ... Has anyone encountered the same trouble?

New radio...that's it...the rest is the same like the **.19 update....the new number is just because the update is for an other part of the world...

Guys,
I can't flash this with RSD as there is no xml file in the archive. Moreover, I have Bootstrap recovery and it doesn't seem to recognise the install package, so the update fails.
Could someone advise me how to proceed?
Thanks!

Granted, but the EternityProject's thread/website states that OTA can also be flashed via RSD.
Anyway, I just want to know how to flash this OTA given the fact that CWM recovery won't recognise the package.
Any ideas?
EDIT: All right, I managed to switch to stock recovery, but even it didn't want to install the update. Got an error message about some fingerprints...
I'm currently running 651.167.21.XT910.Retail.en.EU.

How To Manually Update your Motorola Razr XT910
1. Download the ‘Blur_Version.651.167.26.XT910.Retail.en.EU.zip‘
2. Rename the file to ‘update.zip‘ (without the quotes, of course)
3. Now connect your Razr to the PC via USB cable and transfer the update.zip file to the root of external SD card
4. Disconnect the phone from PC, and power it off.
5. Reboot to Recovery mode.
6. The phone should automatically detect the update.zip file and start the update process. If it asks you for confirmation, Select Yes.
7. Wait for the firmware update to finish. Once it is done, reboot the phone.
8. Let the phone boot up and display the initial ICS setup. Go through it, and sign in with your Google account.
9. Go the Market, and download + install a Terminal Emulator app. This is a good one
10. Launch the terminal on your phone and type in the following commands. This will restore your su backup file created by Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, and thus restore root access
./system/su-backup
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/system /system
rm /system/bin/su
ln -s /system/su-backup /system/bin/su
11. That’s it!!! Enjoy rooted Ice Cream Sandwich on your Razr!

Hey, hacker812c,
Thanks for the detailed instructions! I did all this, but the update process still ended with a failure. A complete log can be seen on the picture I've attached.
Can anyone help me identify the problem?
EDIT:
Actually, when I rebooted into recovery, I was met with a triangle and an exclamation mark. What's more, the update.zip was not recognised automatically - I had to press the three buttons to see the menus and then select "Install update from SD card".

Why don't you just download the fastboot file and flash with RSD lite ? The fastboot file is somewhere in xda developer website. Use search function. I'm sorry I can't provide you the link.

I figured it at last. Got the full ROM fastboot files from a French forum and used EternityProject's alternative flash tool. Everything went smoothly.

Hi everybody,
first of all, i dont create anything i just see every day new user unable to flash fastbootfile because they dont know how to.
This will work on GSM EU devices, dont know for the other.
All the credit are for The Eternity Project Team.
I flash a bad OTA/ROM/ Want to went back/ bootloop etc... And i don't know how to do that
Ok ok, don't worry, take a deep breath and follow this tutorial.
STEP 1
-You need to download the AlternateFlashScript(from eternity project) attached below.
-You also need the right fastboot file: you can find it here
For GSM EU user i recommand you this one
STEP 2
-You need to extract the fastboot file and the script in the same directory (VERY IMPORTANT)
STEP 3
-boot your RAZR into fastboot mode
a) Hold down Power and vol- button for 10sec
b) Hold down power and vol-/vol+ button
c) When you have a black screen with white inscription on it, navigate with vol- to "AP fastboot" and select with vol+
STEP 4
-run the script, for windows just double click
-For linux you have few more steps
a) open terminal
b) enter those line
Code:
cd /yourdirectory/fastbootfile/
sudo chmod a+x FlashItLinux.sh
./FlashItLinux.sh
-Just wait. it take easily to 10mn or more, once the script is over your phone reboot
STEP 5
Your phone should reboot into recovery (black screen with a bugdroid)
-press vol-/vol+ button
-navigate to "Reboot" with volume button and select with power button
Now you're phone should reboot(let it 10mn to first boot) and you're now back to 73.30 with android 2.3.5

I came from 65.1.21.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03 try to back to 65.1.12.XT910.PSHAsiaRetail.en.03 via RSDlite5.6 flashing SPDREM_U_01.6.5.1-73_SPU-11-PASS-10_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRRTGB_HWp2b_Servi ce1FF_fastboot.xml.zip.
RSDlite finish with "PASS" then it reboot my razr with motorola logo, but then it says "Boot Failure"
You also need the right fastboot file: you can find it here
On that link there are OTA file. How to use OTA file? Same thing like Fastboot file? Via RSDlite? Or via AlternativeFlashScript?
Now I'm stuck on Fastboot screen.. Please help me.. Thanks..
The right fastboot file are in the zip.
If rsd failed, you can try to use the script.in the zip.
Be sure to flash the right fastboot for.your devices.
For the ota you have to use it through the motorola recovery. But you need to be on stock rom

I just flash the fastboot file SPDREM_U_01.6.5.1-73_SPU-11-PASS-10_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml. My purpose is just to get root, coz I cant root from 65.1.21.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03
How to use this "motorola recovery"? By pressing POWER+VOL_UP+VOL_DOWN then choose RECOVERY?
I only need to root and back to stock (AsiaRetail) still root, any suggest for me?

wow...
if you're about to use that fastboot, dont use rsd lite
but use one of these script
AlternateFlashScript-LINUX.zip - [Click for QR Code] (14.1 KB, 2 views)
AlternateFlashScript-WINDOWS.zip - [Click for QR Code] (114.0 KB, 25 views)
whether you're using windows or linux
you download those two zip files
- fastboot files (about 812.25)
- script for flash
you put those two onto one folder, select both, then choose extract here
then hit "Windows_Fla****.bat" file
(i'm using windows)
and wait...
yes wait and dont plugged off your razr
especially when the prompt showed at "Flashing webtop"
my laptop was a little bit freezing at that section
and thats ok anyway
then go to step 5

I root & have CWM on it then back up my razr. Also instal Voodoo OTA to keep my root. I think the EU version is more smooth than Asia version (or just me?).

EU or US versions are always better than Asia versions according to my experience since XT720, Atrix to Razr. I always flash EU or US versions as soon as sbs or fastboot files are available. Never return back to Asia versions.
Hey Elias, your version 651.73.23 is already outdate. The most stable & best version is 651.167.20 android 2.3.6. Try that one from development session.

No, you should flash below fastboot file first.can use RSD.
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umt...USASPDRRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip
After you flashed, root with DooMLord. Use voodoo rootkeeper to backup root, then temporary unroot with voodoo again.
Download this ota,
http://dlhg.eternityproject.eu/mtsp...Blur_Version.651.73.30.XT910.Retail.en.EU.zip
Copy to your external SD card. Then flash through Moto recovery and reboot.
After reboot restore root via voodoo rootkeeper.
Take note you can only root on 2.3.5 ... 651.73.30. Cannot root on 2.3.6.. 651.167.20
Also take note after update to 2.3.6 and want to go back to 2.3.5, you can no longer use Red. Only can use alternate flashing method by Kholk.

No you can't, because this update is leaked, it's not official release by motorola or your carrier. You really need to flash it via recovery

Oke, already on 2.3.6 now. How to get notification if there is an official update? Flashing back to the fastboot file?
Is this an official fastboot file & the lastest version from motorola? :

Oh, one more thing, is this "AlternateFlashScript" is the same thing with "EPRJ_FlashITRZR_Windows" from kholk? Just confuse which one to use..

Well i'm not sure, but i guess yes, you'll have to flash back and do a real system update.

Ok, I am having problems with my touchscreen with deadspots and I have ruled out different ROMs being the cause. The phone is still under warranty and I am going to try to call AT&T to hopefully get a replacement phone sent out. But I want to revert to as "stock" as possible before I call.
Should I follow these two threads
MFBSR http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421522

Or should I just Flash one of these fruit cakes?

Hello Leroy
I have a problem with my MB860. It was locked and rooted but i used RSD lite and lost root.
After rsd the phone is not stock. I have some software in preinstall i think as after a clean instal( factory data reset) it cam up with NFS swift, 7Digital zLingo reader preinstlalled..
I just want everything removed. The person who initially rooted missed smtf...
The biggest issue is that the phone seems not to have a recovery as i was never able to get in there( tapping 30 min in the bottom right corner in Android recovery triangle and droid pic screen)
do I need root access to execute those fastboot commands?
If I erase system will my phone boot again ? Rsd worked for me 2 times out of 4, see attached text.
Thank you for the time to investigate my issue.
Best Regards,
Alex
Since the Gingerbread update you have to press both volume up and down at the same time to enter recovery when you see the triangle.

If I erase system will my phone boot again ? Rsd worked for me 2 times out of 4, see attached text.
Thank you for the time to investigate my issue.
Best Regards,
Alex

WOW this is awesome. Never found this info anywere.. i thought i have a recovery issue but stock recovery is there working fine
Still, i tried what Leroy suggested to erase "preinstall"
entered fastboot and typed
fastboot erase preinstall
returned an error, both in my command promt and on Atrix screen
Failed to execute 3000 something...
I used Android recovery to erase cache, erase data factory reset
Phone booted ok starting with motoblur account setup
Still 7digital, NFS Shift,Zlingo reade are installed, so preinstall folder is there.
Any idea how to remove this?
Thanks for help
If you don't have a problem using RSD and you are just looking to return the phone back to stock you can maybe flash an official, signed SBF with RSD.
Here's a post by me from a while back you can take a look at:

Thank you Sir,
I am familiar with this thread.
My RSD flashing experience is kind of odd. I did not manage to flash with sim and sd card out of my phone ! I get an error somwere when "swiching to BP pass through" .
Still it works 2 out of 4 tries, using rsd lite 5.3.1
But this did not erase preinstall. is this normal??
How can I erase preinstall?
Thanks for your help

Can someone post his SWDL file to compare with mine?

I heard someone went over to Motorola's update website and did a clean OS update through the website and it got rid of the "unlock" text and it didn't brick the phone and the phone was back to stock. You might want to try that and let us know if it works.

Are you doing the "automated update" method ? If so, try doing the manual way where you download the file and place it in your sd card.

You can try re-rooting the phone using this method:
http://www.android-advice.com/2012/root-the-motorola-atrix-4g-running-4-5-141/
NOTE: Switch steps 5 and 6 around in the instructions and use the command "fastboot devices" to see if the device is recognized.

I did not realize you were still on 2.3.4. Either way, the method I linked to is the "preinstall" method that has worked for quite some time. One-click Root might work but I'm not familiar with the "EU" version.

I honestly have no idea. If you are not sure, don't do it because you never know what might happen. I don't want you to brick your phone if you are not sure what you are doing.
If you decide to do it, let me know if it removes the "unlock" text at boot.

Which recovery are you trying to install?
The best experience will be to flash Romracer's recovery through fastboot. If you are unlocked and follow the instructions, you should not have a problem.

Taken from tayshun12's great guide here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 .
My suggestion is in red. If you are already correcting the name then sorry and good luck.
Proper Recovery:
1. After your bootloader unlocked go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
2. Scroll down to where it says "ALL USERS" and download your favourite colour. (NOT THE ZIP VERSION) Rename the file to recovery-atrix5.img instead of recovery-some-color-atrix5Place it in the motounlock folder that you have on your desktop.
3. Press the windows key + R on your computer, type cmd and press enter
4. A Command prompt will open. type cd C:\users\YOURNAME\desktop\motounlock press 'enter'
5. type "fastboot devices" Press Enter.
5b. type "fastboot erase recovery" Press Enter.
5c. type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-atrix5.img" Press Enter. Be certain that you have renamed the file to recovery-atrix5.img instead of recovery-some-color-atrix5
Wait for the command prompt to say : "writing 'recovery'... OKAY ['The amount of seconds it took here']"
5d.type "fastboot reboot"
DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS PART: After the install of RomRacers recovery boot up your phone. Open up your favourite file browser (I used Astro file manager to do this ) and navigate to /system/etc/ and delete the file called 'install-recovery.sh'
You will be set 100% !

problem flashing recovery
I had a similar problem flashing recovery with fastboot method. It would flash the recovery successfully in seconds, but it would not load recovery properly. It didn't matter if i tried to enter it from key combination or Rom Manager the phone would just load the recovery image and not the recovery options.
I was somewhat successful with the procedure found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 sticky by Tayshun12. flashed latest clockwork mod touch recovery 5.8.1.8 by following procedure at the end of the first post. Delete install-recovery.sh from both locations,(don't forget to backup file first) it is the same file in both locations. Install Rom Manager from Google play after removing files. Flashed touch recovery with the option in rom manager (paid versions of rom manager and touch through play store) after that the recovery works perfectly. I didn't mind having to pay for them to work properly. Good luck, pm me if you need to and I will try to help.

It should have taken only seconds to install. In the command you have to type the name of the recovery your installing. I personally use touch recovery on the atrix. But you have to check the name of the file, it has to be the same name as your command. I suggest you read the instructions carefully again, there should not be any problems.
i can read i tried it on my atrix and it didnt't its a t-mobile uk so am confused
Hey! I were about to flash cm11 4.4.2 via a guide, I did everything as it said but when he restarted the motorola logo came up and then after that it all went black, can't go in cwm.
Yes, I am rooted.
Yes, I had cwm recovery.
I had version 4.0.4 before flashing.
I followed every step it said and then it screwed up.
Any help?
I've never worked with motorola devices so I don't know how to use the RSD etc.
I can access the Bootloader and then go inside recovery and AP Fastboot but it says it's locked. I can also access stock recovery from that. I tried to another rom from that recovery but it says Signature verification failed.
Download the right Fastboot files for your phone and then use RSD lite to return to stock
Edit: Locked means that your Bootloader is locked which is normal because the Droid RAZR bootloader cannot be unlocked.

hey...thanks for valuable posts...
My problem is I have erased my CID as earlier I had installed JB kernal & jelly bean stock firmware using BMM.... ( I had deleted CID as my mobile is from indian market hence no JB update released for this market hence deleted CID to flash JB kernel)
Now accidently I deleted slot-1 from BMM also format /data & /system.....unmount data/ then BRICKED ....
Its not booting only first logo is coming with error " Customerid error...Contact dealer, Boot to suspend/ TMCD:dead xxxxxxxxxxxxxx "
Now what to do ?? pl. help dears ....
I installed an app to change the boot animation on my Atrix 4g and when I rebooted to see it, all i get is the m logo with dual core technology under it. It is rooted and i didn't flash any new roms or anything. i wiped the cache partition from the recovery menu and also " wipe data/factory reset" but it still doesn't boot up.
its on android 2.3.6 build 4.5.141
please help me :crying:
Do you have recovery software?
Fervi
Just restore the system partition from the backup you SHOULD do before any modification and you will be good to go.
Otherwise, delete the faulty bootanimation and restore the original via adb on recovery and reboot.
There is also a no bootanimation option on build.prop, althrough I'm not sure if it's avaiable on 2.3
Enviado desde mi MB860 usando Tapatalk 2
i don't have any recovery software or backups made.
If you have fastboot option, you can install TWRP (or CWM) and then install other rom (like Motorola Atrix ICS [4.0])

Really? the mini sbf that I'm referring to is not a full sbf. it is a 1 MB file that you should get and do to obtain root.
Where in what you have said in this entire thread did you unlock the bootloader?
