as title says, i cant for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the email history of contacts that are not even on my phone.
i have accidently typed emails wrong before, and other peoples addresses from CC's, or 1 time random emails that i dont want saved with the same name as other people always show up.
if you hold the contact button down in the recipient tab you get a list of previously sent email contact logs, how do i delete those logs?
thanks
Clear data on the email app ?
I'm guessing tho. I don't use the email app, and this may delete stuff you might want to keep I.E saved email on your phone. Maybe make sure you have those emails in your account to download again/don't try this if the only copies of those emails you have saved are on your phone or you don't have them backed up.
success!
i stopped the email app and cleared the data, i had to reinstall my accounts but that was np.
the annoying autofill has reset itself so thats solved that problem, however when i press the contacts button to see the logs list its still the same as before with all the unwanted names listed.
i searched the net and i cant find an answer to clearing that list anywhere, so i dont suppose you can and we are stuck with it. i even wiped my phone before installing ICS and that hasnt cleared it. seems very wierd that theres noway to get rid of it
anyway thanks for your help mate

I've searched for an answer but couldn't find one.. my gmail app won't send any emails. It just says "sending" forever. I'm using a rooted vibrant on stock 2.1 rom, with JAC's kernel.
There have been a few people myself included experiencing this sporadically but I haven't seen a fix or a reason why it's doing this just yet.
Sent from my awesome Vibrant using XDA App
I have yet to be able to actually send an email via Gmail on my phone. I can receive them all day long, but the times I try to compose a message, they just say "sending" forever.
Also, I have noticed that when i receive a message and delete it, it doesn't actually delete it from my Gmail. I have to log into the webmail or use my desktop.
I'm running the stock rom, rooted.
I used to have this happen on my g1 frequently, haven't had it happen on my vibrant yet though. Typically when it would happen on my g1, I would go into the google apps and clear all the data. Couldn't just do it on gmail either, had to do the other google apps too for whatever reason, then it would work again.
Good luck, it's pretty annoying.
Try k9. It's a bit slow at times but it's pretty solid. Best email app I've found yet. I use it for msn, live, gmail, yahoo and my company email.
Honestly I'm pretty disappointed in the stock email apps that came with this phone. I think they're kinda garbage. Apparently my Sidekick '08 was better for that, not to mention the lack of IM.

This happened to me yesterday for the first time. I chalked it up to the gmail servers having issues. But as soon as I plugged in the charger the emails went out. Maybe if battery is low it won't send email? It didn't tell me it wasn't going to send them, it just didn't send them.
I find that I have to go to gmail and manually send each one from the outbox, they still say sending but they actually do send after doing that, because the recepient always says they get it.
So for example, if you send a pic from gallery, make sure you go to gmail after, go to the outbox then click on the mesage and then click send.
* To get to outbox go to gmail then click menu > labels
Sucks but works till we get froyo yo
i'm on a Samsung captivate running the leaked jh3 firmware. It's rooted and running SuperRooter and circle clock.
I noticed that after reflashing to the stock jh3 gmail would send
After installing superrooter gmail would send
After installing circle clock gmail would send
But after I backed up apps with titanium backup it stopped working. I think TiBU is causing an issue for me.
Anyone else have TiBU in your problems some how?
Update: Got it working
I did this:
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, home button then filter, select all. Next Select gmail, clear data and clear cache. Then do the same with gmail storage.
Now it works!

This fixed it for me as well. I am unsure of what caused it to not work in the first place, though.
nice, clearing cache/data worked for me. i was gonna reflash my phone to stock and start from scratch. this saved me a ton of time. +1

my gmail is having the same issue as here, has anyone found a better solution to the problem then clearing the data as that deletes the currently stuck sending gmails.....
also I cant do the process above if its in a conversation, does anyone know how to open a sending gmail when it has all the other responses attached to the top of it??? that process onnly works for individually sent mails, not "replied" mails that bring other messages with it into the outbox.
anyone know how to detach it from the others or even open the data files to remove text using some sort of tool???
bump for some possible resolutions to force the message to send and or view the message to copy text...m even a wayto view data from it so clearing data wontclear message tryingto be sent???
please got a long, important email i need sent...
Seriously doubt this is just a Vibrant issue as it would happen A LOT to me with my MT3G. So far, knock on wood, it hasn't happened with the Vibrant.
I have the captivate running cog2.2 and deleting the cache under "manage applications" worked for me. I was going crazy! Thanks for the help!
I have Titanium Backup and actually had to restore my ROM with ROM Manager and a couple of apps from Titanium Backup and developed this problem. Clearing data and cache under the Gmail App and Storage + Reboot fixed the problem.
Danger
I too have been having issues with emails (and now SMS?) messages stuck in "sending..." mode. I had several emails from a month ago that I just now noticed didn't send, so I backed up gmail, cleared data, restored the emails and tried to send them individually. On the plus side, my emails did send.
On the minus side, some of them had pictures and my phone took the liberty of sending the wrong pictures from my camera (I was "sharing" pictures from the camera app). So to be safe, just delete the emails!
Dangerzone!
bee tee dubs, I'm using Axura 2.2.9.0
I woke up this morning and the Email app or the Social Hub email just stopped working. First it was that I couldn't click any links in the emails. Then it became that once I read one email, I couldn't read another, every email seemed like the first one I opened. But if I tried switching inboxes, emails wouldn't open at all!
The problem temporarily solves it self if i exit email and restart, but links still don't work in emails. I tried deleted email cache as well as clearing programme data for the email app. Didn't work, if your email data is clear social hub still remembers the account info, which makes the thing crash. So I had to reset up accounts, since it's the same accounts which seemed to work but I got these error messages like "Can't read service provider, not provided or carrier" or something.
I'm on XWKDD, baseband XXKDH dont have any other problems. Anyone else know what could be wrong?
i have a simular problem when i erase the mail in inbox, its gone i mean all.
normally it would go to trassbasket ....
if someone has a email.apk from the S2, i would like to have it and reinstall it, because the email.apk who is on the phone won't install
Went to sprint store and they said the best way to do contacts is to get it the way you wanted under gmail.com contacts and then sync it.
I finally got the contacts the way I wanted, but I want to know:
1) How to completely clear out what's on the phone now
2) Sync it with what's up on gmail contacts
How do I do this?
Thanks
Brad

well i just jumped inot the "PEOPLE" program we got and if u click MENU and then "VIEW"....u can select and de-select which contacts u would like on yur device....ex: twitter, phone, ect, ect, ect.....
at least that how i figured out how to managed which contacts u got on yur phone....also, ive used GMAIL on my PC to manage my contacts as well....hope i didnt make this confusing for ya LOL
Go to setting/applications/mange apps
Then find contact storage. The clear data. Then go to settings/account and sync then enable background data then press on your email and then choose sync contacts and you should be good.
Locked & Loaded
" Shooter on Deck"
THANKS!
That worked!
Now one last question.
If memory serves, as people send me emails, they get added to my "contacts" under gmail automatically and thus would get sync'd automatically to my phone. How do I prevent or manage this? I get TONS of SPAM every day (200+ new emails) and don't want everyone coming over to my phone as contacts!

You can select only view contacts with phone numbers in the settings/view of the people app. But I believe if you go into gmail and your computer under settings you can disable automatic contacts add. I use gmail and my contacts only add if I tell it too.
I'm pretty sure it only adds a email address to ur contact list of it matches an existing contact or you add them on google talk or something

hey guys, i am having an issue with my e3d running synergy 318. I have 3 gmail accounts on my phone, all are set to auto sync, but for some reason my main account has begun acting up. All my emails are showing up to the phone and i can read/delete/respond just fine, but it doesnt clear the unread count, if i sign into gmail on my laptop it will show the emails still there and unread even though i deleted them on my phone. even it i hit refresh on my phone it still doesnt fix it, any ideas? My other 2 accounts work just fine its just my main account, so of course i cant delete it with out doing a factory reset, (may end up doing this anyways, just checking to see if there is a setting i missed somewhere that would fix this)
Had this last week----go into settings and applications and the gmail. Clear cache and data and let it sync again and you should be golden

awesome, thanks, i tried clearing data with TiBu but that didnt fix it for some reason, this appears to have worked... for now, lol, hopefully it holds, i'll test it a bit more, this was killing me, i am waaaaayyy to OCD to have anything inthe unread count, i want to push my wife down a flight of stairs (just kidding dont call the cops lol) everytime i see her 300+ unread emails on her evoOG
I recently restored an amora backup & now I can't send email from my gmail account, but it receives it just fine.
When I try to send one, it says "sending" in red letters but never sends it.
I tried to delete the account & redo it, but it's telling me the only way to delete the account is factory reset the phone.
NVM, I got it working
try to clear data/cache on the gmail app, google services framework...etc. and retry?

yea, that's what fixed it but I had to do it three times before it worked for some reason.
plus, it made me change my gmail PW which really pissed me off because I have had that PW forever & I like it (I don't care about security in my gmail)
Whatever, it's working now.....
I have this same problem. I went to clear data and got a little nervous about the message it gives you about deleting stuff. It only deletes stuff on phone like downloads and password info or something, not emails, right? I know that's kind of a dumb question but I never used email on my last phone and want to be sure.

Yeah, it'll just clear the app data. It won't actually delete any emails from the Gmail server.
