so i seen that the captivate can use nexus s radio img. so is anyone willing to try using a galaxy nexus radio image? it might work you never know?
edit: or maybe even using the radio and modem from a stratosphere? since the stratosphere is a galaxy phone that is close to the epic 4g. maybe we could get 4g on the fascinate??? i would try but i use my phone as a daily and i cant risk losing it. anyone have any thoughts??
LTE will not work on a phone that isn't equipped with LTE radios. I also can't imagine that radios for LTE devices would work on 3g devices. If devices can share radios, it's because they have the same or extremely similar internal hardware, all the devices you mentioned have significant differences compared to the fascinate.

Does anyone have any info/input on this?
I don't know the answer to this but this is what I'm thinking...
If 1. Both the Vibrant 4G & 3G are physically the same, 2. Hardware is identical, 3. Parts can be interchanged.
If these things are hypothetically the same, would it be possible to buy the "4G" part, and install it in a 3G to turn it into a 4G?
...the question then is, What makes the 4G a "4G"?
Software wise, I'm sure we can take a 4G ROM from the dev's and flash it in, then software will be running.
If this is at all possible, we could mod our 3G Vibrants and make it a true 4G phone and not have to pay for a whole new one!
Thoughts?
Yeah im curious about that too!
I'm pretty sure they aren't the same. I believe the radio is different. It sounded like the leaked 4G rom wasn't totally compatible because of this and some other things.
Is the ability to use 4g LYE in the software or hardware of the phone? I have an LTE sim card that came with my htc vivid, but as I understand (which isn't much), I will have to wait for an update or custom ROM that includes an LTE radio. I've also read that LTE phones have different modules in which case I would never get to use it on my i777. This phone is great and there's no way I'm trading it in for a Skyrocket just for LTE when everything else it's so much better on the i777.
Can any one tell me then, will I ever get to use LTE?
Hardware, google is your friend sir
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Just to add to the above answer
LTE and our Exynos chipset dont get along right now, hence all the LTE phones having snapdragon processors. Thats the main kicker for me. and LTE is in very few places is ****ing stupid that at&t is starting to focus even the smallest amount on LTE devices

Seriously?
Thanks, this is just the answer I was looking for, I do live in an LTE coverage area bad for me though

I live in an area that should have great coverage but I still only get an average of 6Mbps, would updating my APN settings from the old wap.cingular help improve my data service?

Do we know anything about the radios in the VZW LTE GS3? I know it's got the S4 dual-core processor, so will likely have different radios from the vzw gnex, but I need confirmation... I've looked all over with zero success.
Reason for my curiosity it Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus "mic cutting out" problem with the Galaxy Nexus, and my hope for different radios. Anyone that's spent any time over on the GNex forums will know what I'm talking about. Thanks.
For anyone curious about the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus outbound audio problems, We don't know for sure... the only thing that's confirmed is that the problem exists on every radio release that's been out for the VZW GNex, every custom rom, rooted, unrooted, no fix for those afflicted.
What's most curious and news of the latest is that it appears to be regional, as if it's related to being a problem only when connected to certain towers.
So our latest theory is that the Galaxy Nexus will lose outgoing audio on many VZW LTE towers in certain areas of the US, likely due to poor or old tower technology. People have replaced phones up to 9 times, all with same problem. The GNex is basically useless for voice calls for these hundreds of people.
Here are a few posts with others info
mic cutting out
location poll of problem
Verizon 4.0.4 update
VZW Quality control
Thanks in advance.
no takers... but thanks to adrynalyne it looks like it's all Qualcomm

S4 means Qualcomm radios.
The SoC includes radios.

I'm just wondering about the safety of the phones in regards to the LTE radio.
I'm not too clear on how it all works but I have known from past "4G" phones that people have been known to "bork" their stuff.
Google search doesn't bring up anything. I know most may not have the US LTE ones but I figured I would just throw this out there.
Do we have anything to worry about?
Only completely revamped roms (like aosp cm9 and aokp) modify the software to allow for 4G radios. I think as long as you stay on touch with based roms you should be fine. There's not really a way to mess up 4G unintentionally, so don't worry.
Hi guys, I was thinking about leaving Sprint(Galaxy S2) and going on Tmobile prepaid, and was thinking about the Rezound as a possible phone to use. Would it be worth the switch to using this phone with the edge speeds, etc?(I do have wifi at home at least) Would I be able to run all the roms with service as if it were on Verizon? Wondering if it would be a headaches with keeping service while flashing roms and such. I flash roms fairly often.
Probably better off getting a straight GSM phone..
If you got the rezound and wanted to run on GSM, that can be arranged. But, I am pretty sure they don't even have 3g working on TMobile yet, so I hope you have WiFi.
Also, you would be very limited as far as GSM ROMs go so as mjones said, you should probably just get a GSM phone.
