Ceiling fan remote? - Sony Tablet S

Would the tablet be able to control it?
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using Tapatalk

Don't see why not, as long as it is IR-controlled.

I have been trying but not have been lucky.
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using Tapatalk

Have you checked to see if it is in fact IR controlled? My damn fan goes on every time I turn on the TV, lol.love the broad IR beam but hate the fact one of the signals to the TV is the same.
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda premium

If it's IR you should be able to teach it the controls. I on the other hand have a good old fashioned wall switch for my fan haha

If the remote is an IR-based one (it usually has either a black reflective panel or an exposed LED at the front of the remote, and doesn't work with your hand placed over the front), then you should be able to teach the Sony the codes. This assumes that the remote is definitely IR-based and uses buttons, as opposed to any weird sliders or trimmers which the S would struggle to emulate.

HTC Media Link

Am I the only one that is really excited about this.
Does anyone have any experience with the Media Link yet?
I saw one video that speaks of an opportunity to use the tv as the screen and the phone as a controller. How sweet would that be?
It would be better if you didn't need the wireless b/g/n router between your phone and this device. If they both can communicate with the router, why can't the phone communicate to the device directly?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Just received the Media Link HD I ordered from AT&T for my E4GLTE. I was surprised that HTC includes an AC adapter and HDMI cable in the box! Looks like it works - now just waiting for my phone to get here so I can try it out.
From what I can tell in the manual, if there's no wireless router available, it uses a WiFi direct signal. I plugged it in, and on the startup screen it showed a private IP address that wasn't from my home router.
^ Good to know! Thanks for the heads up! This is a huge part of why I'm excited for this phone.
Sent from my HTC Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2
I like the idea of it and now that I know it works as such it just got better. Unfortuneatly, I would always have the phone plugged in to watch a movie or play a game on the tv. I assume the media link streaming a 1080p movie would drain your battery out before the movie ends.

They just don't have it listed because the phone hasn't released yet. The User guide has sections about setting up the Media Link.
Then I would Email them and tell them to fix that ish. That is misleading.

How many people have had burn in issues?

Recently I've noticed that my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has had burn in issues where the status bar usually is. Whenever I'm in clockwork mod recovery I notice it, or sometimes when I do other fullscreen tasks. Is there a fix? Or do I need to replace my phone?

There is no real fix. Maybe a temporary fix but once you start to see burn in it is unfortunately a down hill trek from there.
40+ years of display technology and it seems like they always start over. simple laziness. burn-in helps nudge you to a new device in two years. heaven forbid something was built to last.

I found out with my first S3 how bad these screens burn in, that had the worst burn in I have ever seen.
On my 2nd & 3rd S3's & with my Note 2 I turned the screen brightness down & set the screen timeout to 30 seconds & that cured the problem.

Replacing the phone is the only fix & then turn down the screen and shorten the timeout.
If you don't do that, the new one will have the exact same problem.

Although you probably won't see it in cell phones, LCD panels can burn in. Main ones that usually do are computer monitors. Plasma displays can burn in. OLED displays burn in.
Really there isn't any display types used today that doesn't burn in but monochrome displays.

I noticed my burn in about a week ago, of course the notification bar is burnt in and is the worst but I also have burn in from the BaconReader app, the two bacon strips symbol is burnt in really bad along with the arrows at the bottom that let you toggle between full screen and regular.
It pisses me off because the burn in continues to get worse the more I use BaconReader, which I've pretty much quit using it because of this.
I can't really blame anyone though because I enjoy my phone at full brightness, which I knew would make the burn in worse, and it really doesn't interfere with anything as of yet.

All HTC from Eris - Rez.... BUT

I think it's time I jump ship. The Rez is now (finally) outdated and nothing has really caught my eye until now. The LG G2 is going to be it. It's so packed full of goodies... it's hard to pass up. I have never owned a non-HTC phone so it should be a different experience but for those features, the change is worth it in my eyes. Any one else find that phone drop dead gorgeous? oh and amazing

G2 IR remote apps

Any news on ones that have been updated and recognize this phone?
All the ones that I have on S4 and HTC One won't work on this phone.

That's really unfortunate. IR on these phones is really a useful feature unlike gimmickry such as a fingerprint reader.
That's one thing I miss about the gs4. The remote app was much better. It combined all 3 remotes into one where I didn't have to switch tabs to control cable or tv power or volume on my A/V system. The channels controlled the box, volume av and power all 3

Lg already released SDK for remote app. I emailed the developer but he mauled that only few people interested in this app.
I also noticed that my s4 remote works better. I have to have my g2 pointed directly and at the right angle to get it to work properly. I was hoping it was an app issue and could just replace the app.

Have you made a custom remote in the app? I did and built it exactly how I wanted it. I made it learn each button and now it controls each device in my entertainment center on one remote. It's awesome! Pic attached.

I tried to make a custom remote for my TV/HTPC, and teach it from my harmony. But this was not working good. Sometimes it didn't register button press, but biggest issue it refused to send same command twice. So impossible to use volume and navigation buttons.
So I tried to setup my PJ, facing the phone agains my gain 1.1 screen nothing worked, then I found out I had to point it directly at my PJ for it to work (all my other remotes work facing the screen, and all my equipment is behind me). At that point I gave up rather disapointed.
Is this a software issue ? Is the IR too weak ? IR uses so little power, it seems stupid to save battery on a weak IR.
I'd be willing to say it depends on the physical aperture size. The HTC One has great range and tolerance to off axis use, for example.
Look at the opening. (power switch) The S4 is much more directional, for example.
I've done the learning thing from another remote, and it's learning it correctly... but the button doesn't do anything. like power won't work even though it learned power. weird.

Hmm, that's weird. On the custom remote that I attached earlier, I taught it functions from 3 different remotes which included a Harmony and it works perfectly. Power (from TV), volume (from av receiver), channel (from dish network dvr), guide (from dish network dvr), etc.

eh..mine is for an RCA surround unit that literally no remote is able to control except for this ONE i found for my PS3 that does bluetooth. that remote works fine, but there;'s something wrong wtih it and it eats batteries in like a day, so i don't use it. i get up and control the entertainment system lol old school style...
but from that remote i had my G2 learn the basics..volume, power, etc...and it says "okay, learned, on to next button" but it just won't work when i use the G2.
In my opinion, the HTC One has the best TV/IR app. I didn't like the S4's app but in comparison to what we currently have, I guess it's not so bad.

This might not answer your question completely, but hopefully it helps. I'm typing this on a rooted, decrypted 5x. Fingerprint works perfectly and Android pay is working for me if I go into Supersu and disable root. I can add cards and I was able to pay with it. If root is checked in Supersu it will fail though.
Well, that works for me. I can live without Pay for a while. I really want to keep fingerprinting intact. Thanks
