I'm trying to connect my phone to my laptop via hdmi but my laptop isn't detecting it.
Can you connect them like this or am I wasting my time? ,
I know my hdmi port works on my laptop.

The port on the laptop with be output only, so no it can't
It depends on your laptop ('s screen): if it supports HDMI as input too (so you can use it as display) then yes, but most laptops have only HDMI output, not input. It'll probably NOT work.
HDMI in probably only on certain workstation.
Laptop under 2000 EUR-->No way
It's a hp g60 . So don't think I can. Nice idea though :-(

I have a £1000 Sony Vaio and it dont work
Ogw...
As above..
Hdmi on laptops are "OUTPUTS" not inputs.
The data goes out to another screen if you plug it.

Unless your laptop is a high-end graphics workstation specifically with HDMI-in, NO it will not work. HDMI is not like USB.
Your phone is HDMI-out, your laptop is HDMI-out, of course it will not work.

Every time i try to connect my MHL adapter recently it will not output to the TV. TV is fine, HDMI cables are fine, adapter works with other devices.
ONCE i did get the MHL adapter to work properly however the rom was very buggy and i had to switch. Even on stock i can not seem to get my phone to output to the TV. It always says MTP Device Detected and never displays out to the TV. I tried USB Debugging but that didnt seem to change things. Im confused, what can be causing this? All my hardware seems fine, i have tried too many roms to count, what can be making me have this problem?
Any help / suggestions will be helpful
Have you got power connected to the MHL adapter?

Sure do, even found a power adapter that puts out more power because i thought the one i was using wasnt working properly (1000ma instead of 200ma)
Phone shows its charging, but also comes up with that MTP Initilization message.... put it into USB mode and i dont get that message, but no MHL either.
Ok, a bit more testing, using a HDMI to DVI cable i can connect my phone into my computer screen and it works fine! Using the exact same setup on my TV, nothing. Use the same HDMI port on my TV that my other cables were using, nothing. Use different cables (That work on other devices), nothing. Aparently my TV is not accepting the signal from my MHL adapter.
My TV is a Sony KDL 46E400.
Ideas why i can connect to the monitor just fine but the TV doesnt work?
Hi Guys,
My old and faithful S2 recently developed a screen crack, although its completely usable but I am not planning to use it anymore due to safety issues rather I want to use it a as a HTPC by plugging it to my Library monitor.
I am planning to connect phone to HDMI port of monitor using MHL cable
MHL cable also have a micro USB connector,
I will connect a powered USB hub to this. so that phone can charge and connect to external drives and Wireless Keyboard adapters
My Questions is that Will it work, I mean will phone be able to charge and connect to USB disks and Wireless Keyboards/air mice at the same time ?
Try to use usb host controller maybe with this app you can controll all in the same time

Ok so here we go its more of a cool idea but does anyone know if that will work?
Can i buy a docking station (computer one as in the ones with ethernet port monitor outputs i.e.) use my OTG cable and connect the phone to 2 monitors lets say ?
At work I`m using my laptop to connect to a server anyhow and using 2 additional monitors so was wondering could i do that with a phone - mainly will it support the montors?
Regards

For anything to work you'll need an MHL adapter that sends your display through the usb port - A simple OTG won't work..

Once you have MHL output (To HDMI) you can connect it to a monitor! Not so sure about 2 monitors at once though..

Yeah the question now is can i do 2 ... certainly the device can support it since it runs its own screen whiles being connected so will have t try.
cheers
Sorry for the probably dumb question, but I m completeley new on this!
I m planning to buy a mini pc cause I cant find a similarly priced tablet with decent connectivity to work on tv...
The reason I m asking is because i plan to use the mini pc as a download server too, so I need it to work even if the tv it will be attached on is closed (or just sleeping):cyclops:
Yes, if they have an external power supply. Some are powered through the USB port on the TV but that isn't advisable anyway. I have my TV on a timer and the droid running 24/7 running a slideshow and the radio so when I come home there's something pretty on the wall and some music to get me. Downloading should be fine if you have the storage space, so make sure you get a model with at least a full sized USB port. I use a mk809iv and am well pleased with the performance, for instance when streaming live TV over Wi-Fi.

Nice!
So usualy there is no power adapter on this little things...?
For example tronsmart... or rikomagic dongles with rk3188?
I have mine powered by a 2A USB charger, plenty ooomf otherwise it keeps resetting if there's not enough amps

So I've my new ZU and I find it pretty good...
And I saw the Intel compute stick and thought about using it on the phone...so my question is can we use the phone as an hdmi host.. I know it can be coupled with an hdmi TV using MHL...
Are there any possibilities to use the phone as an hdmi tv

Cmon guys....no one knows these things???
MHL to hdmi cable accessory reflects what is on the mobile phone ? via HDMI input . So, whatever is streaming on your phone ? you can watch on your HDTV . Like turning your television into the phone's monitor .

Not that buddy...I was asking if there was a way to use our phone as the host.. U know use an hdmi camera and see pics on our phone... Like in a situation when we don't have an hdmi tv.. And I want this phone to act as one...

I'm afraid Android doesn't support hdmi host mode as of now, but your idea isn't also the best because if memory serves me well, compute stick needs additional power to operate and if you plug it into a phone, you will already have the usb port used unless you use a hub. Isn't it easier to just plug it in the TV?

You can use this phone as a secondary display for your PC though, not via HDMI, but by USB Tethering.
