This was a mod on evo, can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707218
Works for evo 3d as well.
Here is how to install:
Unzip the attachment and place bcm4329.ko on your sdcard
Now use a file manager ie., es file explorer and copy bcm4329.ko from your sdcard
Navigate to /system/lib/modules in your file manager then delete the existing bcm4329.ko and paste the new one.
For some reason i cant get this to flash right so i used this method, you can also push it through adb i am assuming, but i know this way works.
My router will not let me set N only but G stops at 54 mbps and mine was at 65 mbps so i'm sure it works. The other way to test is speedtest app do a test before and after modifying the files.
To mod the file yourself for other bases is simple:
Open bcm4329.ko in a hex editor and search for "nmode" without the quotes and replace the 2 instances of it with anything i used what the thread recommended "-----" without the quotes.
Can someone with N only please confirm it works
Here is a screenshot of it at 65 mbps:

I for some reason thought that the 3VO already had wireless-N enabled by default? Mine is currently on latest base n connected at 65MB but yeh technically wireless-N can get higher speeds. But I'm not sure if my Linksys E3200 is fully N or not either... Anyone else know anything bout that router? Oh, I'm currently on MeanROM 2.9 with stock kernel.

You guys would have to enable advanced performance for wifi. It's under wireless networks -> wifi -> hit the menu button and select advanced. Check the box for advanced performance. That will get you higher speeds but it drains battery faster.
You guys posting your getting 65+Mbps run a speed test on your phone and tell me what your getting.
My phone is telling me I am getting 65Mpbs but when I run speed test I get 2Mbps
I tried this and now I get an error when trying to turn wifi on in settings. I even set permissions correctly... Any ideas? Thank you.

65Mbps is the throughput of the router to the device, not the actual bandwidth the modem / your ISP is giving.

That makes sense. Flashed MeanROM with stock kernel and everything is back to normal. Now hitting 15mbps down on my phone.
So, essentially, this is totally pointless, right? Phones already support N OOB, and it breaks functionality in certain kernels?
Thanks for the effort, but no thanks.

Interesting did you try this so called "mod" that could be it, or it could just be the area of the house you are using the phone from. Like bigwillyg said you could go under wireless networks -> wifi -> hit the menu button and select advanced to perhaps force a higher transfer rate at the cost of higher battery life. Don't worry though 2Mbps should be fine for almost anything and you could use WiMax if you have it, when you really need speed.
How weird, opening my connect network, my speed is 13Mbps, but on Speedtest I'm hitting 23 Mbps download solid.
Edit: now my speed it updated correctly. Speeds 52Mbps and I clocked out at 25.99Mbps when toggling the High Performance WiFi option.

Hi guys! I have had the fascinate for quite awhile and never knew it was wifi "N" capable. My phone syncs fine with wifi G, but how do you connect to N? When I go to the wifi options it just sees my "G" network. Before you say have you check to see if the "N" network is being broad casted it already is. My xbox 360 and laptop are sync to the N wifi network. I would assume someone has figured this out because the specs shows wifi 802.11 b/g/n networks. Thanks dudes.
I only run an N network and mine connects no problem didn't do anything fancy. I am using wpa2 instead of wep don't believe that would make a difference since usually anything that will do wpa2 will do wep lol. double check make sure you N network is broad casting at 2.4Mhz range and not 5Mhz. since you say you have both I'm just assuming you have a dual band router and that might the problem. again just assuming there, but the fascinate will not pick up the 5Mhz range

Here is my current wifi settings. I tried disabling just the "G" network and leaving the "N" on. When I rescanned for wifi networks from my fascinate it didn't detect the "N" wifi. Is there a setting some where I'm missing on the phone or in my settings?

Nevermind I think I answered my own question with your previous answer lol. I have the g and n wifi named as "b33zuG" and that's how it shows on my phone. My screenshot for 2.4 shows as b/g/n. But if this is the case how do I know it's the true N network and not G since there both in the same 2.4 bracket?
if is in the 300mbs mode then it's broadcasting the N network because G only maxes out at 54mbs.
SC2.8 WP7 Revolution
also I have the high end 300-300 netgear router and if I enable the 5mhz n-network it won't let me run N on the 2.4 st the same time only lets me either do G 2.4 N 5 our just N on 2.4 so maybe when you have both on your only getting the G?
SC2.8 WP7 Revolution
Yea, I have a dual band router at home and the phone's wifi scan only detects the G.
I have different SSIDs set up and my N network isnt listed...
I'm gonna put it in manually when i get home tonight and see if it does anything but I'm interested if anyone has a solid answer for this
Our phones wont do N in the 5Ghz spectrum, only 2.4Ghz.
I've connected to N at work and it drains my battery faster than anything else that I do to my phone. I am curious if anyone else had experienced this. G is great for battery life

Tablets powered with Android 4 supports a large number of 3G modems:
Huawei E156G
Huawei E173
Huawei E220
Huawei E1750
ZTE MF637U
These are modems that are tested. Other modems might work as well.
To setup your modem follow the instructions below:
Go to settings (press the status bar in the low right corner) and press <More...> and you will see the following:

Select <Mobile networks> and you will get this screen:
Select <Access Point Names>. when you come to the Access Point Page you click in the top right corner and select <New APN>.
This is the tricky part where you fill in the GSM operators settings. You can find settings for the most popular networks here. If your operator is not included you will have to ask the operator. The screenshot below shows the settings for Safaricom, Kenya:
When all settings are filled in press the arrow in the lower left corner and you are done.

Sorry to all this will not work. I take that manual from other site. It say Andtoid 4 3G Setup (original link in #1 post). I test it my self. No success.
Than i unpakced firmware to find out files like (gprs, pppd-ril.options, usb_wwan.ko, etc), some of them presents in firmware, others dissmised.
So the only way getting 3G via dongle, is custom firmware.

Well if u have to use 3g/data connection outside wifi range just use your cellphone as a wifi hotspot. Most people carry a cell and most of todays phones can do this

thanks, i know how to go to web via phone by changing wpa_suplicant2 file. But i want to connect via dongle.
I dont know how real this is, I have rooted my TF201 and no where do I see the mobile network on a stock rom, I have it on my phone yet I dont have it here, and also there would have to be drivers for the USB modem to be entered, this isnt a simple task, the only one i have found is in the UMTS app from the market, and even then this doesnt work, I just want a USB modem installed, I dont want to use my phone as the WIFI defeats the purpose of having a USB modem, surely someone has done this on a stock rom

we may able to get better 3G network speed. The change may enable the Van Jacobson style TCP/IP header compression. Your cellular network may or may not support this feature. My 3G cellular network (Celcom Malaysia, HSDPA 3.6Mbps) seem to be supporting this feature.
Before the change, I got (down/up) 3.4/0.5 Mbps, but, after the change, the result is quite impressive as we can see in the screenshot. Sometime, I got about 2x of download speed when download podcasts MP3s, from 400 kBps to upto 800 kBps.
Mbps : Mega bit per second
kBps : kilo BYTE per second

Didn't work for me.
Guess it wont work if the operator is limiting the speed.
Edit:

Speed got x2 better than the fastest I ever got.
Doesn't work to me either.

Is this GSM only? I thought CDMA was limited to 2.8mbs, and LTE, well its just ridiculous the speeds you can get from it allready, I got 34mbs as a top, and average 24 ish. Up and down are so close sometimes too.
Worked for me..

You are right. This hack seem to be effective for GSM 3G. 4G data speed is already awesome and no needs for this hack.
I like to say thank you to others who tried this hack . Really happy to see a quite promising results from others. Please report the cellular data usage too, whether this also able to extends data quota, because, the feature is compressing data link. So, I hope we do not exceed the data quota much quicker.
Thank you.

Yes. I agree.
I also noticed that the PING significantly improved.
Mine improved also by 50 percent.
One thing i also noticed is that this method works best on stock roms.
My first system (stock ICS) managed to double the download speed and my PING. But my second system (fts ICS) only managed to improve the PING but with the same download speed.
Can anyone confirm this?

Hi all, i have an issue which has bothered me since I installed CM9.
My internet connection is 70/20 mbit. My router is an Asus RT-N16 running tomato firmware. It is locked to 802.11N, and runs on channel 1 (which is the best one with regarding interference from neighbors wifi).
My touchpad runs [09/24] AOKP&CM9Remix with WebOS Style
When I run the speedtest.net app from my touchpad I get approximately 2,5 mbit download, and 17 mbit upload. Why is the dl so slow, and the ul so fast? My macbook pro and iPhone is fine, and give me the correct speed.
Ive tried flashing update-ath6kl-v4.2-for-20120520-signed.zip, but it did not change anything. I also tried to disable WMM in the router, but no go with that either.
Any advice?
I sort of figured this out. If I disable 802.11n, and just enable 802.11g, the speeds stabilized at approx 10mbit up/down. The issue with that is that I don't want to limit my other devices to a slower speed (especially since my internet connection is 70mbit/20mbit).
Is there a wat to force 802.11g on just the Touchpad (disabling the 802.11n) so I can run the router in mixed mode (n-standard for the other devices, g-standard for the touchpad)?

Edit: i see you already tried that. Try disabling DMZ
DMZ is allready disabled.
It is an issue with the 802.11n on the Touchpad as far as I can tell (http://code.google.com/p/cmtouchpad/issues/detail?id=126).
Do you run 802.11n with no problems what so ever?

Hmm. Then there should be a setting somewhere in Tomato.
802.11g works fine, but 802.11n does not. Or the upload works fine, but the download seems "capped" at 2500kbit.
Got any suggestions?

I figured it out.
If I set 802.11n Preamble to "Mixed Mode" the download speed works like it should on the touchpad. That is also the default setting for Tomato, but I changed it when I set up the router due to "advice" from a website.
Thanks all.
hi i just got my redmagic 7 today i had 6pro before but on my redmagic 7 i cant find 5ghz wifi in wifi settings but it works perfectly fine on my redmagic 6 pro any idea? whats the problem i tried to reset didnt help
Argh mate.. I literally got mine in the post this morning, fired it up, start going through the usual android initial setup, asks to connect to wifi, there is my 5Ghz connection, I connect to it, boom, all good.
Then it tells me there is an update right away, straight after connecting to 5Ghz wifi, so of course I accept. It downloads, installs, tells me to reboot. I do.
Phone reboots, wifi no longer connected, asks me to connect to wifi. I search for my 5Ghz wifi, nada.zip.gone.
Oh, my 2.4Ghz connection is showing, just no more my 5Ghz...
So yeah, it's definitely the software update that has knocked 5Ghz wifi off for no apparent reason that I can fathom. Rather frustrating to say the least.

You need to either enable or disable 20/40hz coexist in your router. This is a normal thing for cheap wifi modules. My PS Vita and Xbox One are the same way. Wifi doesn't work at all if that is enabled or disabled. Can't remember which one it was. Haven't used those for years lol.
But it has something to do with 20hz and 40hz coexisting that makes 5Ghz not come up for some devices. It also limits your speed to 286mbps.
This will be fixed in software cause it's likely just a bug when they were optimizing better wifi stability but ended up dropping a portion of how 5Ghz works lol
