Hello,
I'm using MIUI and the most annoying thing is that when the memory is low the apps kill by themselves. Is there a way we can stop doing that, or just prevent killing specified apps? I don't like waiting each time till the launcher loads

um.. that's how android is designed to work, if didn't you would run out of ram ( = BAD ) maybe try turning some useless background apps off. android will always kill background tasks before the foreground task tho.
you can tweak the memory if you want tho do a search for x10 memory optimization. i think there is a thread about sharing the best values.

Only MIUI does that. I'm killing the useless apps but it won't bring back 60mb of ram as it is after reboot. It will be only 30mb

Well I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S II and did my first step into flashing ROMs... really fast I got addicted to it.. so I decided to root/flash my old HTC Desire (which is known to me as a battery killer).
I've installed CyanogenMod7 w/ a2sd... I want it to be perfect so I come a few questions...
How much does RAM matter to gingerbread performance / battery drain?
I see many ppl using task killers... are those apps recommended? I think I read about that killing tasks won't boost anything on linux.
Which apps would you recommend to increase performance / battery duration?
i.e. taskkiller, sdmaid(i know it wont boost the system but i think its still useful )...
Are there any more tweaks that could be done?
I believe that a dark background would save the drain from the display, correct me if I'm wrong
share your expirience/tips/tweaks/apps!
I can help you with your first question: if you use gingerbread you don't have to use any task killer, it's memory management is good enough to use it without it.

Not necessarily. It depends on the device and rom it's using. Many gingerbread roms still leaving running tasks and apps in the background (even when you exit the apps properly).

Recommended apps - Android Booster, app2sd, 1Tap Cleaner
There are tweaks (some dangerous if not done correctly) like scripts which can help ram optimization, speed, etc. You'll just have to choose the one's you prefer or trust to use. You could try this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245310 .

How can I increase my x10 ram or rom to increase performance of my device to having no lags?
What can I do with running apps that I don't use which run ever and ever in background..

Use Ram Manager from market
Flash roms that use little ram. Or delete some background programs/apps/systemtools you don´t need via root uninstaller. But remember the X10 only has 256 MB ram and you won´t get the whole 256 to use, because android needs some and this is unavoidable. Furthermore you can use Adrenaline Boost - but be careful ! Just search Adrenaline boost in forum or in google
If i helped, don´t be shy and hit the thanks button
Download advanced task manager then in settings set auto kill level to aggressive and auto kill frequency to when screen turns off works a dream
also to save memory you can actually move apps that cannot be moved to SD with app2sd by selecting move 2 SD on titanium backup pro by long pressing on the app u wish to move

But if u use App2SD, make sure your SDCard - Class is fast or may some tools wouldn´t work proper. Furtermore I don´t suggest Taskkiller for newbs, or useres which don´t know what it does. If you know the Android System, you will get to know that it manages programs automatically- it freezes and closes them if memory is needed. Task killers can damage your device and further drain your battery! If it always kills apps it can crash system tools! So think twice before installing a task killer

I have been using Advanced Task Manager Pro to end apps that I don't use but people said it wastes battery life, is this correct?
What's your suggestion?
Its always running in background and that way uses ram
so yes it wastes battery life
correct me if im wrong
Im using system tuner pro with auto-kill
i was using advanced task killer pro too, but i was tired to kill it manually every time
My suggestion is to not use Task Killers....
Just enable back button killing
Ace-ing all tests.

There's so much debate on this, just google something like "task killers android" and you'll find loads of good articles on this topic.
In short: task killers are bad, don't use them. Apps you kill will load again, this takes CPU and drains battery. Android is designed this way; it's been specifically made for multitasking you know.
So my suggestion: let android handle task killing and only use task killers for apps that have crashed/frozen.
Why not use samsungs task manager on cm7

So all Task Managers in Android market will uses battery as it still runs in the background?
Using the long press option is better or CM7 Task Manager?
P.S - When I end apps, I tick Advanced Task Killer Pro as well to end it so it still runs in the background?
Tasks you end with task killers eventually load up again. This makes the CPU work twice, when killing and when loading again. This is specially the case for apps you often use.
Working CPU requires battery, so yeah task killers are bad for battery life.
If you want more ram, try tweaking the 'minfree' of Android (Google it). I use free Autokiller from the market, check the documentation and you'll get an idea of how Android manages the closing of unused tasks AUTOMATICALLY.

I have not been using any task killer as I dont see the point...bcoz most of the apps killed start right back again.
I am wondering if there is any possible way to kill Google Maps which is always running in the background with 3 processes...nothing i do stops Google Maps from starting right back again. Does Google Maps affect battery life?

Hello again,
Having the phone with following specs:
Android Version: 4.0.4 (Stock)
Bootloader Status: Unlocked
Root Status: Rooted
Firmware: 4.1.B.431
Looking for:
1. The best Clock Work Mod
Same time have the fesibility to reset phone to factory mode
(Could it be done by flashing the generic firmware?)
2. RAM Availability
This has become a serious concern. I only have 70-80MB Ram available all time. When I hit the phone app, it takes 5 seconds to bring out the keypad....
Need advice on How to manage/install scripts.
Thanks again.

2 things.
1) ClockworkMod Recovery is mostly used to make full backups, format the system partitions and install custom ROMs.
2) Resetting phone to factory status can be done in Settings-Privacy or repair software via Update Service.

Root your phone and remove unnecessary apps. Search on forum, there is a list about it. Also, search for V6 Supercharger.
And having 70-80 MB RAM isn't bad at all. It's quite enough for normal usage.

It is because of unoptimized app. Not related to RAM much.
Unused ram is wasted ram. U wont getting any problem like lags etc unless free ram is too low eg 10-20mb.
Again, unused ram is wasted ram
Your lags probably came from cpu governor/disk io scheduler. Flash custom kernel and experiment with other cpu governor/io scheduler

Here are some tweaks you might wanna try: http://goo.gl/1OuLC

Thanks for the quick reply. Regarding some stuff.
CWM, which one do you suggest to install? Since I wanted to try out some roms and get to know Android well. And by meaning resetting to factory, I wanted to know, would it also remove CWM along with the reset?
I am a bit peculiar about the cwm, can you suggest me some?
Secondly, Optimizing App? It's the default Contact.apk, it literally gets my nerves. And the keys lag like about 10-50ms when I type. Any workaround?
PS: I removed lot of bloated apps already, so I wouldn't blame them.

Understood. But isn't this a logic? If we initially had a lesser ram and start an app, wouldn't it lag? And, tbh, 80MB is now low, since some games like Temple Run hog the ram up.
android had its own way of managing apps/ram.
newly closed app were cached in ram to make it faster for relaunch, and sometime it launch automatically on event without we even notice it. thats why we got app like autostart to manage that behaviour.
and when ram goes low, android will clean those cached app from ram using minfree value as threshold, thus we got app like auto memory manager to adjust those minfree value.
either way u shoudn't be worry much about ram, and dont use taskiller to kill app/process.

I disagree about that.

If I am not mistaken, it is a bug with ICS. Someone correct me if I am wrong, I do not have my phone to test it.
Yep, key lag is an ICS thing. Even on some custom ROMs you still get keypress lag.
If you're going custom all the way (unlocked bootloader, custom kernel & ROM etc), for ICS you can check out expeacer's ExtendedStockKernel V2. It's got CWM 5.5 so there's no more of the 8 empty lines before option shmuck. Makes it a lot easier to use. Mesa kernel is also a good option and according to most, extends battery life by quite a bit..
Hope that helps

App for Auto Start, app for managing apps from self-kicking. And these apps pile up if you keep looking.
And by cache, I guess you're talking about Dalvik-Cache? I saw an option in "Developer Options", Don't keep activities. I wish it had "White-List" and black list, you seriously wouldn't need those countless apps.
btw, I do not any task killer, since most of them have the same algorithm and do the same ****(no offense), but I use SwitchPro Widget, since sony doesn't come up with default switches like Samsung does. It's native app killing switch is pretty flawless.
Does anyone also notice the slow loading widgets (Widget cannot load error) at the startup. I Use go launcher native theme.

Its noticeable on stock kernel. Noop gave faster picture loading in gallery, music loading in music app and media scanning upon unplugging usb and after reboot than default deadline.
But on custom kernel those added io scheduler probably patched already to suites flash memory better, thus faster on readahead, well atleast on my kernel i've patched them.
