[Q] White casing cracked! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Humm what is it with white plastic items. I remember having this problem with the original white HTC Touch.
Just now I noticed my Note has a hair line opening/crack almost dead center on the right side, about 1" from the power button. On the plastic edge between the screen edge and the chrome accent.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Samsung online support chat.
I spoke with online support via chat, this being the recommended action, after leaving a support ticket on Samsung Support's facebook page.
Sergio : I will be glad to assist you.
Sergio : Is there any physical damage on the device?
Clockcycle: minor scrapes
Clockcycle: this is the image http://i43.tinypic.com/11v4lkn.jpg
Clockcycle: it is a defect, not from physical damage
Sergio : Thank you for the information.
Sergio : I went through the link, Yes I can find the hair line cracked.
Sergio : Not a problem, your device will be replaced you need to contact purchase center to replace the device.
German: ok, how do I do this?
Sergio : Please visit to the purchase center along with the documents and get it replaced.
Clockcycle: what do you mean by "purchase center"? You mean the store I bought it from, AT&T?
Sergio : Yes, you are correct.
Clockcycle: They said they can not help me, I need to contact Samsung for warranty
Sergio : Thank you for the information.
Sergio : Samsung provides one year warranty for the device and other accessories from the date of purchase.
Sergio : In this situation, I suggest you please contact our voice support team for further information on your request.
Sergio : You can contact our dedicated Galaxy S phones voice support team at 1-877-EZ2GALAXY (1-877-392-4252).They are available 24/7.

I guess that's the next step. Really sending this back to Samsung and being without a phone while they do their thing, for such a minor cosmetic issue, I wouldn't bother.
Reason I am doing this is to make AT&T and Samsung "aware", so they don't deny the next customer that makes a claim on the same issue an exchange at the store. Without having to jump all these hoops.
EDIT: Spoke with Samsung # on the box, returned their call. It was recommended I put the phone in a case to prevent moisture, air and debris from entering the opening and damaging the screen. If that were to happen, I would be charged for the repair, as it would be considered physical damage.

Did you buy from att? This is covered by att if you bought it from them. You have to contact warranty support though. i posted the number in your other thread. Going to inspect my white note later tonight
Shame in samsung for telling you that. Subsequent damage caused by warranty defect would be covered.

A Google search of the number you posted in the other thread turns out to be some sort of "party chat line".
I think the correct number is 1-800-222-3111 - I am going to try my luck at another local corporate store near work, if that doesn't fly, then I will try the local DSC. Lastly I will send it in to Samsung. That comment she made about subsequent damages being considered physical damage worries me.

Please report it to Samsung and AT&T, so they know about the issue, so they can stop claiming it's not a known issue and dismiss customers with that lame excuse.
You can open a ticket on Samsung Support and post on Samsung Mobile USA and AT&T, all on facebook.
You guys able to get pictures and share them? I would love to have more evidence.

Pocket?
This question as to the culprit dawned on me..
Do you guys that have found this or similar issue happen to carry your phones in your pocket?

No I don't carry in pocket and I have the Samsung flip case. Will post pics soon

I was able to (almost) get a replacement at the AT&T store. Posted the solution/result in the main sub-forum.
So there is a remedy. YMMV
Hope it helps someone,

I do have a similiar problem like yours
i bought my Note on 3 Jan 2012, and used about 1 month and this minor crack suddenly appear but I didn't drop it neither hit it with anything.
i try to claim for warranty and the management refuse to change the part for me and declare it as "crack not covered by warranty", but since this is not my fault, it was their defect, why can't I claim for warranty...
btw, I'm from Malaysia... anyone able to help me with that?

I've got the same thing on my left side. I assumed it was just part of the manufacturing process, I didn't pay much attention to it. Doesn't really bother me, it's impossible to see.

Any remedy found yet? I just noticed that I also have this crack. Have not dropped the phone once and saw it when taking the case off.

Wow now I'm nervous should I return it and get a black one?

I think you all should pm eachother with personal information and appoint clockcycle as mediator, and have this issue acknowledged and fixed. Unacceptable. If I had a white phone I would flame the $h!t out of Samsung and rip an new hole. I would take it to.corporate and bug the Piss out of them til they fix it for each of you. Research white plastics and various resin levels and the difference between polyethylene and polypropylene, or whatever. Also Compiling the list will make it easier for each of you to get it fixed and also add some weight to your argument. As a consumer... You must demand more. IMO. Can you say class action lawsuit?

Not sure what happened to my Screen!!!

So I noticed that on my Photon screen there were two streaks which can be seen in the picture. One streak is much bigger then the other. I know the picture is pretty bad, did it on purpose so that the mystery smudges could be soon.
The weird part is that when I wipe the screen with the micro fiber cloth the screen looks brand new no smudges but it seems for some reason those two spots keep coming back as the screen gets used. Anyone have any thoughts? I have never spilled anything on the phone and I do not work in an abrasive environment. I have tried screen cleaner as well still no luck.
I wounder if sprint would fix this with TPE as wear and tear? Somehow I doubt they will though.
hmmm, well since i work at a sprint repair center, i'll just give you my personal opinion, if you brought to me, i would say it's either physically cracked or liquid damage of some kind, but i would have someone else confirm it, but, just take it to your local repair center and keep your fingers crossed it's covered if not, hey, a deductible for an insurance claim is still a lot cheaper $600
I had an issue similar to this with my evo 4g. I took it to the sprint store store and they replaced it the screen. They said it was pressure points on the screen. I have a thread posted on the evo 4g forums general section, cause just like you i was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong with. Must people said water damage...but i take good care of phones and never put them near any liquids.
So when u get a chance, search the evo 4g general forum...check out the pics of my screen and see if they're similar.

not sure if i agree so much with the liquid damage (but obviously it's difficult to know because it's a picture). It seems as if it is a pressure point like it was in your pocket. me being a tech i have no access to photon screens at all. so depending on how smart the tech you speak to is, it could go either through TEP or he/she would just swap it out.

[Q] Weird note in Chinese taped onto the box of my new Transformer Prime

Can anyone read this [see image]? It was literally taped onto the box, outside the shrink wrap. On the backside of the note are 6 bar codes with accompanying serial/product numbers. 'Ordered the TP from Best Buy online and picked it up in a local store today (USA)...
Someone at transformerforums.com said it says "There is a bright spot on the screen" but that seems to just be only part of the text. Seriously, anyone know what that means? Are they selling me a refurbished unit as a new unit?
[EDIT] I added the second picture to show the bar codes and serial/product numbers.
Maybe best buy is just reselling the returned prime stock or Asus is sending them back refurbished as new which is probably not legal. I returned mine for that exact reason a couple days ago. My bright spot (like an led behind a sheet of paper) was a little lower than that picture shows. If you open it and it has a bright spot on the screen i wouldn't order one of these "hidden" primes again. It really makes me wonder if the two i got from best buy's secret stash were simply resold and that's why they were both defective.
I'm going to get a third at some point but it will not be until i can walk into a store, buy it and open it in the store to check it over before i walk out.
Hans, I double checked and got the same answer from my daughter-in-law.
"There is a bright spot on the screen. "
She grew up in China, has worked in US tech industry.
Yeah, it is looking BB may be selling shady refurbs as new. I may be sitting on the only hands-down proof in the 'States!
Ride525: thanks for chiming in again. Someone just added on TF forums that the rest of the characters say "confirmed" followed by someone's name.
Nice to see their very official documenting system... hand written sticky notes... very inspiring

To be more exact, the first line says,
" 1, Bright spots on LCD" (and a square)
second line says:
"Bright spots on LCD. NG. Xia-Chang(a guy's name) confirmed".
Oh my...now that is shady...so from the looks of it, someone sent a tablet into ASUS, who confirmed the issue, and then shipped it back to Best Buy who in turn sold it as new?
So illegal if so!

DO NOT OPEN IT! You will lose the proof of their packaging and sealing, they could then claim your caused the damage and wrote the note yourself. Take it down to your best buy with a video camera, ask for a manager. Open the box while video taping it in front of the manager. If there is a spot on the screen walk out and file an immediate complaint with the FTC (https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/) or contact a lawyer. If you were sold a "used/damaged" unit as new, that is consumer fraud and someone should be held accountable and being that it is writting in another language I doubt Best Buy is to blame.
LOL seriously? They sent you THAT?
What a friggin nightmare...
Adding a pic of the back side of the note: bar codes and serial/product numbers.
Hans, any word from Best Buy on this?
Wow, That is shocking. OMG i cannot believe it. Sue whoever is responsible and get a big heap of compensation.
Then make them send all XDA Members a non defective TF201

I would have thought that this would be Best-Buys shady business practices rather than ASUS.
From what my family and friends in the US tell me, Best-Buy are fairly well known as total scumbags, but who knows.
Called Asus - the rep just said that the SSN shows that it is new. Powered it up, and no LCD screen problems. I'm having some difficulties getting Wi-Fi connected (home Fios won't get IP and WebOS hot spot connects but won't allow data transfer), but I'll work that out and take things from there.
I'm going to assume that the note regarded factory quality control and a monitor replacement, which is fine by me.
Oh And...
Oh and...
Settings --> Status --> Serial number = unknown
Surprise! I'll try one call to Asus and if it doesn't pan out, this puppy's going back to Best Buy (WiFi signal strength sucks anyway).

Ant under screen!

I just want to share my misery and frustration...
Well here's my story: I received my nexus 10 in good order (i live in singapore btw), after 5 days of use, i came home one day and found this ant stuck under the glass screen of my N10.
Can someone explain how the heck an ant can even get there?
I guess i have no choice but to ship it back to US to get a replacement.
Wow.....now that's something you don't see everyday. Talk to Google, they should send you a replacement before you send yours back. However your cc will be charged till they get your one with the ant.
Also I thought the LCD was glued to the gorilla glass 2?

Exactly! that's what i thought to.. perhaps the ant was there since manufacture?! then today it decided to move right to the centre of the screen and die there. great.

Had to be in there during manufacture. Would be cool if you could identify the species and see where its native to.

I don't know where you are from, but ants are part of our lives in most countries. Even in Canada, ants is not strictly a sign of poor hygiene. In some countries or area of the world, you just expect them to be everywhere.
I don't know what your idea of a factory is, assembling a tablet does not require a surgical room or a waffer factory clearness

who have ordered in tmo store online and received their unit box sealed like tmo local store unit? the first time i ordered online i receive my device in a box that is not sealed. they just place 2 tmobile sticker to hold the box cover. when i open my unit there was a dent and scratch on the back so be aware. make sure when you receive a unit when ordered online, the unit must be sealed otherwise the unit you will be getting is a returned from someone nor refurbished.

every one of us has our own preference about build quality. me i want it just like the way they advertise the device. money doesn't grow on trees.
it doesn't matter if you use case it will not make the gap disappear, it will be there and you know it. and if you're ok with a minor defective device well that's fine with me, that is your device not mine. i just want my earned money to be worth spending on the device.

Its advertised as "zero gap" construction but I agree that people are too anal about it. People sending back all these devices are going to make it very difficult for carriers to replace them if it keeps up.

operating system can be fix by updates.. it is actually zero gaps because it is a unibody device.. everything need to be flawless. people care because they want their money to be worth on spending.what if that gaps will get worse its getting older? what are you gonna do? send it to htc to get it fix? if you are ok with you device with minor issue then that is fine.sharing this to anyone who care not to anyone doesn't care.

Ummm... Pretty sure most carriers ship in open boxes - how else do you think they get the required SIM card in there? All phones I've ever gotten from T-Mobile, going all the way back to the Sidekick II, were just sealed with a sticker.
Same thing with at&t
Same with Sprint
Same with Verizon
And Sprint didn't even use SIM cards back then.

You guys are just looking to complain.

Please search on the Internet how carriers put their SIM cards inside the box and you will see how it works ... And today a tmobile representative confirmed all new htc one comes with the box covered in plastic , if is not covered, the phone is reburbished... I wish i had the conversation saved. So i could show it to you
.. There's no body complaining ... We are just giving information

Congrats :good: . Enjoy your handset.
Note7 replacement devices still at risk of overheating eported to a local television news network. The exact amount of complaints submitted to Samsung remains unknown. Do you guys found this problem in your exchanged device or not ?

No reason for replacement, many news its fake..no prove for burning, so im not change my note7, 26 cases exploding its liar from some people needed fast money from sue samsung
pure BS about the problems with exchanged devices, they are even reporting a case of a note 2 burning!
I received my replacement in the mail on the 15th. It's been fine, other than the occasional stutter and lag. Stupid SD820.
The heat is on the charger this time. Even when fast charging feature is disabled. I'd expect the charger to get warm. Though my Note7 has already been replaced and firmware updated, I still disable fast charging to keep the battery from stress.

No, aside from the (still relatively small) number of fire incidents that has since been resolved with the recall, this product has no more issues than ANY other phone. It just has endless dumb journalists who jump on the hype bandwagon reporting anything that might just connect the story to a Samsung device, blowing it completely out of proportion just to get viewers/readers/clicks. All that achieves is endless knee jerk reactions from the ignorant authorities and technology illiterate public.
Even on XDA people generally come here to vent frustration about either hardware/software issues on their particular device (that's every phone XDA caters for) or to complain about a manufacturer of said device. Giving the impression that their phone is just a complete failure.
Stop worrying about news reports, enjoy your phone. In the very unlikely event you get a dud, get it replaced or refunded. Importantly, come back here and let people know how great it is! It's an awesome phone!
Eventually all this BS scare mongering will die down and we can put it behind us.

Here, here!
It is a shame, this amazing device will not get to people who could have had a great Smartphone. But this means the next Note will really be worth waiting for. The Note 7 will be the first device that my wife and I both have, she asked for it when she saw what you can do with the S Pen and digital paint.
Got my replacement today. Can't find the display scaling option in the updated firmware for the life of me.

I'm sure there used to be an option for changing dpi, the same as what nougat has.
