Ok, I purchased this LG Optimus T P509 from T-Mobile. I unlocked it officially for AT&T, it is for my sister who wanted an Android but no data plan. It is perfect for her. She loves the keyboard, gets great service, nice texting interface, but she can't MMS! I went into settings and set-up the AT&T APN, and the AT&T MMS APN. The phone was going onto mobile data and to prevent her getting a high bill, I turned off mobile data. With a mobile data block there is no MMS! So I bought this app called APNDroid. I said keep MMS enabled, turn APN off. MMS doesn't work. APNDroid worked on my phone. However, my phone is a carrier unbranded Gingerbread phone.
PLEASE HELP! I have been looking high and low for months. Any help is appreciated. We don't want a data plan but I don't understand why MMS works on my data-plan less phone and not on hers. She gets a download button for MMS, it says downloading.... then failed!
About her phone: LG Optimus T P509, Android 2.2.2, texting and calling work, tried mobile data once and it worked!, uses WiFi all the time,

I got my wife a Vibrant the other day to replace her current non-smartphone. She does not have a data plan. She will, however, be adding the pay per use data to her account so she can sporadically use data on a trip next weekend, but she wants to be able to turn the regular data off (as to not incur charges when she does not explicitly want to use the data) while still being able to use MMS (as she has a messaging plan).
Is there a way to toggle the Data on and off at will but still be able to send and recieve MMS with the regular data off? I have read that APNDroid does not work on the vibrant (and other galaxy s phones), though other people say it does.
The phone is stock Froyo 2.2 and only has one APN (T-Mobile US, epc.tmobile.com). Should I create a separate apn for MMS only and change the regular apn's type to just "internet" from "internet + mms"? Or would that still not work with APNDroid in the way I'd like?
Thanks for any help.
No. Go into the APN setting. At the VERY bottom, there is APN type. Set it to MMS only. That way it will only activate when an MMS is received/sent. That is the same setting you describe in your post.
Be aware that MMS data usage will NOT get charged. Yes, it is technically using data but if your wife has texting, sending and receiving MMS messages will not incur you ANY charges, even though it uses data.
Note though that it's not perfect. Sometimes MMS gets bugged where it fails to download because the phone bugged and didn't establish a data connection. In that case, just go in the same menu and refresh it or go to the market so it establishes a connection and everything will work. Hope that helps.
Source: I have my Vibrant with data completely shut off. I don't pay for data and never have since I bought it. I have wifi most places.
Hi,
I received the phone yesterday, put in the SIM which has data enabled on my old phone.
Voice calls work fine but I get a message saying that there is limited data connectivity. WIFI works fine.
Initially when I went through the set up process MotoBlur could not connect (later realised my WIFI was down) So I turned off Motoblur using Bluroff.
I have set up the phone with my gmail account and downloaded the market app. the version of the market app I have is 2.3.6.
My system details are as follows:
System V4.1.83
Android version 2.2.2
Baseband N_01.77.15p
I thought it might be the APN considering I am using it in AUS and it is an AT&T phone. Confirmed the APN with another phone on the same carrier and still no joy.
I have even inserted the other SIM to ensure it was not mine.
Data connections have all been switched to the on position, I also dowloaded an APN toggle to ensure that the data connection was on.
I have full bars from the carrier with an H+ symbol next to the bars.
There is a small window for me to send the phone back. I am hoping there is a simple explanation though.
Thank you in advance.
Was your last phone an iphone? If it was you need to switch the data plan.

Thanks,
I will go back to the carrier to confirm my access.
Ok so I am encountering a little problem here.
1 - I do not have a data plan (which is why I picked up the ATT version of the GS2)
2 - I am on T-mobile
3 - I am not able to send or receive pic messages
I turned off my mobile network data on my t-mobile phone but would still be able to send/receive texts.
Anyone have any idea of what is going on?
You turned off mobile network that's why

I've used AT&T windows phones in the past on Tmobile (and vice versa) and usually you have to change quite a bit to get it to recognize the network properly, like the address it uses for mms. Idk if it's the same with Android.
I haven't been successful at getting data and mms working on my HTC Shift through Verizon Prepaid, so I bought a Rezound and set it up on VZW Prepaid.
Everything including mms seems to be working, except I cannot switch on mobile network or connect to the internet.
Also, *#*#4636#*#* does nothing so I cannot change those settings listed in the tutorial.
Any suggestions?
Woo Hoo! Finally a fully functional phone. I just installed "Data Toggle Free" from the market and clicked it on from the home screen drop down menu. Now everything works.
Interesting
how did you do this. I would like to do this myself. Do you get 4g? Do you get unlimited 3g? Please help
Good morning
We recently switched from Verizon to a T-Mobile pre-paid plan and the idea was to use my wife's Verizon G3 on T-Mobile. Everything is working fine for us but Text. Most of the time it just will not send. I have changed and done all I could think of our found on the Internet with the APN settings, tried Global and GSM under Network Type etc.
Typically after a reset the text will work for some time and then stop working again. We have tried with her Rooted phone on Jasmine and also my phone which was returned to Stock since I am trying to sell it. Same experience in both instances.
Any ideas?
here are the Access Point Settings we currently have
everything works for me now, i just cant send nor receive picture messages. It always says message expired.
I checked the APN and settings match.
Thanks for your help.
