[Q] Flashing Problems SGP 4.0 USA - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

As I go in to the clockwork recovery mod, I go to flash cm7 from a forum page here to my SGP 4.0 USA YP-G1, it says E: Signature verification failed
Aborted installation
And nothing works. But I have flashed Klassik Rom using Odin, but I don't have a tar file to flash cm7 using odin. Is there a way to fix this flashing problem with clockwork?

You can try turning off signature verification in CWM as long as you're sure you're flashing the right file. It might work or if something's wrong it could softbrick the device.

I figured it out. I am in Android recovery. I need to be in CWM recovery. But there is no correct device for galaxy player 4.0 USA. How did you get the correcct device?

To have CWM into the device, you will need odin and steves kernel here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377771
Follow the instructions and try to install CM7 again.

That is the winning fix!
That fixed it! Thank you! You are my favorite developer BTW. Hope the ICS port for 4.0 is coming along well! Ciao!

ClockworkMod recovery released!

Hey guys!
The ClockworkMod recovery has been released. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787168 Check out this post and do what it says. Once it is finished go download ROM Manager from the Market and update your recovery! I will have a rom out ASAP after I get it tested :] If you wanna test email me at [email protected]
Which of those 3 zip files needs to be flashed ?
So does that mean that samsung reviewed and fixed the code they released or was there something that the devs were missing when trying to build the kernel?

This is not built from source, this is a duct taped together version of recovery, it should work for now though.
I've got CWM running on my Fascinate! =)
Too bad it doesn't mount the SDcard and it places nandroid backups in /data, but it's a start. =)
Do we flash it in ODIN using the PDA box ?

good stuff!
Very exciting news.. Looking forward to coming home and giving it a try.. at least making a full nandroid backup.. I've had to rebuild this phone from scratch way too many times now.
I'm not really clear on the instructions.
I have downloaded the captivate_recovery.zip but I'm not sure how to proceed from that point. Am I using Odin?
This isn't working for me, I flashed the tar file in ODIN and then installed clockwork from rom manager. When I click reboot into recovery it loads up a stock recovery and gives some errors under it.
Update with more info:
When I reboot into recovery from RomManager I get
e: failed to verify whole-file signature
e: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I'm thinking this means the ODIN flash didn't work correctly
Maybe someone could post clear step-by-step instructions?
what tar file cheeto. all i'm seeing is three zip files, that when unzipped have no extension. a little help?

You flashed a new recovery kernel with the clockworkmod recovery binary. I'm confused why you would try and install again, on top of it, from ROM manager? (Don't take that the wrong way.. that's not an "OMG Why would you do that?!" It's an "I'm not following your logic".. )
Re-do your initial step (flash recovery via odin) and that should be it, unless I'm missing something here.
and for those of us still out of the loop... how do you flash the recovery via odin? add a .tar to the file in the zip? rename the .zip file to .tar? help us out please.

Hang in there, I know it's frustrating. Let us get some more feedback on this and how it's working before the steps are broken down so that anyone can follow along. The last thing we all want to see is post after post from people who did this not knowing how to fix their phones if something goes wrong.
If you're confident you know what's going on, the posts are there, in the Fascinate forum, on how to use odin. Feel free to check them out.
BE CAREFUL EVERYONE. there are quite a few issues with cwm still, It doesn't detect the sdcard, so you wont be able to flash a backup. and you can only get into recovery by rebooting into recovery through rom manager.

signature verification failed

have galaxy s II and rooted. try to install roms thru cwm and keep getting install aborted signature verification failed. i thought i had seen this somewhere in the forums, but can not find. any help, what am i doing wrong. thanks.
In recovery just click toggle signature then make sure it says disabled.

Which method did you use to root? Did you install cwm enabled kernel? If you used entropy's kernel + rooted system package the kernel is stock with 3e recovery.
yes
used rooted kernal via odin.

yes
cm7 from nighties. is there only certain roms i can install.
Did you install ROMManager and install CWM from there? If that's the case it won't work. I did the same thing and it kept on getting the same error you have. Start the root process from step 1 and don't install RomManager. Flash CM7 by booting into CWM using the 3 button boot.
i now have root but with stock recovery 3e. how do i get cwm recovery now. thanks. btw, what is the three button boot.
You have to flash your recovery image using this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823
Hold down Volume Up/Down and power until the Galaxy S2 screen comes up, then let go of power to get into CWM (CWM = ClockworksMod)
Toggling in the cwm menu worked for me.

If you used ROM Manager - don't.
Flash a kernel that has CWM (either codeworkx's or mine) using Odin/Heimdall, then enter recovery using the three-finger salute.
If you use ROM Manager's recovery, nothing will work right.
cwm
i have cwm installed via kernel. i do the 3 button boot and get to cwm. i also toggled signature to disabled. when i try to install cm7 over stock rooted image it aborts. doesn't say signature verification failed, something about buildprop. thanks.

Most likely you're trying to flash an I9100 build and not the correct CM7 build for our device (I777).
correct
i believe you are correct. can not find the full cm7att zip. only the update and when installed, it locks at the samsung s II logo. then have to restore my stock backup. thanks.
CM7.1 just got released into stable. http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2att
That's for the ATT version. You can flash that.
tried that
that is the one that locks it up, it is an update, i need full. thanks.
I am also having the same exact issue with the verification.

Official release zips are marked as "update" even when they're a full release, mainly because they're no-wipe I think.
The build system names it "update" even when it's full. The 100 MB file size should be a hint that it's not just an update...
I also had this problem, but I used Rom Manager to flash cwm, which I shouldn't have. Flashed back to stock, re-rooted, reflashed CWM the correct way and have no problems.

Umm, if I'm understanding correctly, you installed the ROM- CM10, that is- and/or kernel via Odin. CM10 and the Mercurius kernel are zip files (.tar, .pit and the like are for Odin, not zips...if I understood correctly).
You want to place the ROM and the GAPPS zips on your actual SD card. Make sure the SD card is working properly. Reset and go to CWM (Power+Vol up).
Then, accd to the instructions on the CM10 page:
"Installation:
Reboot to CWM
Make a Nandroid (optional, but recommended)
Format /system if you had a different GApps package installed
Install ROM
Install GAPPS if you just formatted /system
Wipe data/factory reset if you are coming from Gingerbread
Reboot
??? (wait a while...)
Profit"
I'd say make a backup before doing any of this, but I'm assuming you're beyond that point....But before going on to CM10, it might be a good idea to recover your device first and back it up. Maybe flash a GB rom via CWM or Odin before proceeding to CM10, making a backup just in case...
Ok

Just flash CM10 kernel zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109674
from CWM5 and then reboot CMW and you will have CWM6..then just install CM10 rom.

would he have to flash the kernel first, though? I'm unfamiliar with rjs, but am assuming that rjs version of CWM would be identical to entropys version of CWM, which means that he could just flash the CM10 ROM since it has the kernel baked in.
When I upgraded from Chip -> CM10, I just flashed via CWM, upgrading both the ROM and CWM in the process.

I remember Dkonzig mentioning this, that the path to JB was through ICS, but for my US device, I just flashed directly to GB. I remember another Int'l GB user who flashed directly to JB and was fine. this is peculiar.
so two methods to choose from, I suppose.

[Q] problems installing CM11 ON S3

I have an AT&T S3 I have clockworkmod 6.0.4.7. I am trying to install cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d2att.zip but every time I do the install is aborted and I get a status 7 error. I tried installing TWP but though goo manager but my recovery mode is still in clockworkmod. Please help me figure out how to install this latest version of Kit Kat rom.
Try to flash TWRP using Odin or download a recovery flashing compatible file for TWRP and flash it using your current CWM. Or just try PhilZ
Do you have an i9300 or another model number? Try asking in that model's forum.

Download CM again or simply from another source and before you transfer the .zip file to your phone, compare the MD5 of both files to check if the download was successful.

[Q] Can't Boot Into Custom Recovery!

Hello.
I have seached this question TO DEATH, and still, no answer to my problem.
I have a Galaxy Player 4.2, rooted, and I used the "Rom Manager" app to flash recovery. If I go to recovery using the app, it boots into stock recovery, and says this:
"--Installing Package. . .
Finding update package. . .
Opening update package. . .
Verifying update package. . .
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation Aborted"
And when I do the 3 button combo, it just does stock recovery
Any help?
The best way to install a custom recovery on the GP4.2 is to flash the stock kernel with cwm made by zaclimon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198444
Stock recovery can't install a recovery itself (except on some devices). You must use odin to flash another kernel which includes CWM.

That sucks GP4.2 is pretty awesome
Anyways, I used Rom Manager app and sezlected to flash the I9000 recovery, because people said that that is the second best option.
