My phone was working fine after installing the DOW14 kernel yesterday. This morning it was even working fine. Even my alarm went off this morning on the phone and I set it an hour ahead (for more sleep) and it didn't go off. I looked at my phone and the screen would not come on. The "buttons" at the bottom lit up, but nothing I had to hold the power button down to get it to reboot.
It got past the "Vibrant" text and shows the green robot for TeamWhiskey, but just sits there. Tried taking the battery out and still it will boot to the same place. Can anyone help?
I did not overclock, I never ran SetCPU.
If you can get it to download mode, try flashing another kernel through odin since you cant see anything. Just the kernel not a rom. Supercurio has some voodoo kernels for odin in the dev section. Just look for your base and odin the corresponding kernel. Goes in PDA. Dunno if there are any "stock" odin kernels or not.

Hold vol up + down + power right? I can't seem to get into recovery/download mode. I am downloading Bay_wolf's AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5 right now.

not recovery...download mode w/the digging robot on the screen.. I'm not familiar with adb does it adb reboot download or anything of that nature?
Try this, it worked for me. Pop your battery, put it back in, hold vol up down and power. Wait for vibrant to pop up the second time and release. Should put you in recovery. Factory data reset, reflash you rom, wipe dalvik and fix permissions, then reboot. I had the same issue with the Bionix 1.2.1 update and the glasstopia theme w/ dragon 4. They didnt play well together. Hope this helps.
you may want to build a jig or buy one online in the future just in case you cannot get into the download mode.

OK, I can get into download mode and I have been trying this method with no success:

Odin flashes the phone and it just comes back and reboots again. Man this sucks
I am wondering if there is a full flash file somewhere I found one Fascinate, but I am afraid to flash my Vibrant with it.

Several people are having this problem including me... I worked on it all day yesterday. No matter what you odin, even eugenes no brick fix then JFD, nothing will work. I hate to tell you but your phone is toast.

I agree man.
I've looked at every single thread with this same exact issue.
No avail. The file system, the ones that are reserved and locked for the bootloader and ROM are corrupted, is my guess.
I can load all the roms on there, but something isn't loading correctly, or is beyond corrupted, not allowing me to boot the phone at all.
My phone is toast too.
Damn, im not happy.
Nobody has a fix for this though. Nobody.
Anyway, sorry to hear about your phone. Mine is also bricked completely.
Keep in mind, this is from somebody who has bricked every possible way (apparently not this way), and ODIN at least once a week. I've also used Eugene's i9000 OC kernels, old DOW OC kernels, and TTBAL's OC kernel with NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!! 1.4gHz stable.
Now this.
WTF Mate.

no more oc for me thanks sold my bricked phone on ebay for 150$
maybe that will help for people to recover the loss a bit?
good luck i tried for days.
Still Broken...
Anyone ever get this fixed? I still have a broken phone
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
what rom are you running? did you check to see if it was even compatible with the kernel your flashing? I mean.... are you on gingerbread roms or froyo?
I tried flashing ics passion earlier and keep getting bootloops with no chance to get into recovery; i odin back to stock but whenever it boots up it shows i9000 then immediately changes to vibrant then boots up like normal... but now i can't get into recover with the volume buttons only way to get into recovery is for me to use quick boot app and let it get me into recovery.... idk what to do at this point... i mean my phone isn't broke so it's not terrible i just would prefer to be able to flash again.
i did trying odin a gb bootloader so i was kinda thinking maybe thats where it went wrong but i figured odin back to jfd would solve any bootloader changes...
any help would be fantastic...

Try using VOL-Down + Power to get into recovery (the GB bootloader way, froyo is both vol plus power)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
You can use the "JFD ODIN File - For use after installing Gingerbread Bootloaders" to fix the I9000 screen.
wow that worked.... i guess i was just used to vol up and down... never knew it was different for gb... thanks!
I've read Heimdall's guide and have tried reflashing in Odin. I can not get into recovery but I can get into download. I tired reflashing to "The kernel + rooted UCKH7 system package" with no luck. Only the triangle and ! mark are gone now. What should I flash to in order to get the phone working again?

the part in red needs clarification. Did it flash, successfully?
The "!" that you see is one of two:
Forced download mode, which is just a black screen with that symbol
Or a smaller one of those symbols at boot image, that happens before the boot animation. caused by increasing the flash counter. just cosmetic, and easy to remove with an app from the market.

Meaning after I reflashed, it still is stuck on the repeating bootscreen loop. It was successful but still did not solve the still being stuck on the bootscreen issue.

So still no recovery?
Something probably got borked when you flashed. try a different kernal, dont worry about the ROM, flash kernal, boot into CWM recovery. flash ROM of that you want.

Kernals are in the dev section. there are 2 different types. depends on what you want to flash. read up.
Flashing can be done through heimdall/Odin or CWM recovery(when you get it). there are 2 different types for this as well.

yea no flashing in recovery, if its not there. flash with heimdall....or Odin(if you must)
Sorry man, but are you trying recovery correctly?
both volume keys held down, then hold power button. hold through first screen, will come back a 2nd time, after a second of the 2nd screen i let go of power, then a second later I let go of vol keys.
This is just the easiest way i've found to do it.

Also make sure your phone isnt plugged in to your computer when trying to access CWM Recovery menu.
The latest OTA frustrated me so I decided I needed to root my i777.
I had a very similar and scary prob. I rooted my phone with no problem using the GalaxyS2root.com page. I have an i777. Booting the phone does now says 1900 and have the yellow triangle with exclamation mark but no big deal. Phone is running i777 firmware fine.
Problem occurred when I attempted to flash a new ROM. I flashed an AOKP JB ROM using CWR. When the phone booted it got stuck. I could see the new 1900 boot screen but then it would flicker and go black sometimes looping back to the 1900 screen. If my usb cord was plugged in, I could get to Download mode (vol up, vol down, and power for about 10 seconds), but no further.
I read several forum posts with no definitive answers. I originally rooted my phone with a Mac, but decided to attempt to unroot/reroot with a PC. Then I got to thinking maybe I could flash a different kernel. In hindsight, I wasn't as careful as I should have been in my approach to flashing Kernels, but I had the right idea apparently. I flashed TASK650 3.0.38-i777 specific kernel and bam, got the phone to go to Recovery!
I really hope this helps someone. I'm so appreciative for the pieces of advice here and in so many other forums. XDA has always been a source of great information (I remember rooting my original HTC Incredible 3 years ago...so nervous).

## Edit: Geez I'm a noob...
I just wasn't holding down the recovery key combination long enough on boot. After a few cycles it booted into CWM Recovery. The phone itself doesn't boot, but that's not a big deal because I'm going to put CM on it anyway.
## End Edit
My problem sounds very similar to the OP and the problem quoted above. I was following the i777 instructions on the Cyanogenmod wiki (can't post links yet... wiki.cyanogenmod [dot] org/index.php?title=Install_CM_for_i777). Running heimdall on Ubuntu, I was able to flash codeworkx's ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.3 (and I checked and double-checked the md5sum) to my phone. As advertised, a blue bar appeared, Terminal told me "KERNEL upload successful", and the phone rebooted.
Unfortunately, at this point, I can't get past the initial Samsung splash screen; the boot just hangs. I also can't boot into recovery, but I can boot into download mode. From the reading I've been doing, it sounds like I should flash a different kernel. Does it matter which one? My phone was originally running the most recent OTA update (4.0.4), if that matters.
Sorry for the noobish questions, but at this point I'm scared that making changes will bork the phone more than I already have. Any advice is very much appreciated!

Yeah, that was my bad. Bit late though on never using that site. I still will pass your (and now my) advice on!
Before I went there, I had looked around the XDA forums. I had read many of the questions I was researching on XDA but continually found a "go do your research noob" type of answer. It was AFTER the fact, that I found what I needed. I guess the "uh-oh" feeling produced a more intense desire to research below the surface. Live and learn!
I still have the triangle and I'm booting into AOKP 4.1.2 (build from 12/2/2012) fine. I have read about Triangle Away and it seems that previous versions worked with i777 but the most recent version does not appear to list i777 so for now I'm just dealing with the tripped flash counter. My phone is out of warranty anyway, so I'm not that concerned about it.
Huge thanks for the response. For me, it really seems I flashed the wrong kernel (thanks to the aforementioned website). Outside of that "alert" at boot, phone functions the way it should.
Cheers!

Hi,
I am fairly new at this
I am on Shostock 3 v1.4. (rooted on zedomax gb kernel from galaxys2root). It worked pretty well until I tried to back up current ROM
I downloaded ROM manager from play store and flashed clockwork mod and went to back up current ROM and my AT&T i777 got stuck on triangle boot screen
I could not get into recovery mode to fix the problem (tried vol + and vol - and power button)
phone will not power down, I pulled the battery several times
after putting battery back in, tried powering back on and got the triangle boot screen again
any help would be appreciated
thanks

You are kidding. Why the hell would you download ROM manager after all the warnings in the forums? To top it off, if you were already on a custom ROM, you already had cwm.
I can't believe that you would risk your device without familiarizing yourself with the intricacies of it. Astonishing.
Try doing some legwork and reading the forums, as your fix has been posted before

Sorry I didn't see your post sooner. You need to flash a different kernel. More than likely that is the problem...at least that was my problem. Can you get into Download Mode, not Recovery Mode? You'll need a computer to do it. Seems to be easier on PC...or maybe more people use a PC to do it.
ROM Manager currently will work with i777. It went through a VERY bad period where it screwed up a bunch of phones. But ROM Manager is NOT necessary or recommended as it is in many kernels.
The Triangle issue is something that seems to be connected with the root method used on that other website. Triangle-Away worked for me...but you need to get your phone working again.
Hope this provides some help.
Rom manager does not work with i777.even just booting into recovery causes problems

I installed it. It works. I did uninstall it after 2 weeks of use with no problems. I uninstalled after I read several people who had issues. I assumed it was a fluke and I should probably get rid of it plus it is unnecessary. I can confirm it worked as of 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Ok, so I rooted my Galaxy s2 last night and it went well, except I put a 9100 on it and my search/back button stopped working with any ROM i put on it. So after trying 20 different roms I went back to a stock ROM I downloaded.
Everything works well, and now i'm on a rooted kernel, except I cannot get into recovery/download mode by doing the 'button dance' anymore. The only way for me to get into recovery mode is to boot my phone up, use the widget "reboot widget root" to boot into recovery/download. Lets say I soft brick my phone installing something, I won't be able to boot into recovery since the OS isn't booting.
Any advice?
Thank you
I suggest you do a complete wipe for your phone and reformat the internal sdcard to get rid of any issues from flashing roms that were not suitable and then reflash with your preferred rom.
Since you have basically reset your phone everything should work properly now.
Isn't there another forum for your device? This thread is only for the international (unbranded) version, GT-I9100. Ask there and you'll be able to get better responses.

You lost the buttons because the rom you flashed contained the secondary bootloader for the I9100, which has different button combos. There are a couple of paths you can take. You can flash back to stock including bootloaders, and start over. Or you can first flash the I777 secondary bootloader using Odin, which will fix the button combos, and then use CLockworkMod Recovery to flash an I777 kernel. You might have to hell raise that rom. At that point you should be fixed.
You can get the files you need from the Download Repository, and the kernel from the development section. See the link in my Signature.

Ok, so it's been a while since I posted this thread. Since then, I've gathered the courage to attempt a re-flash. I've reflashed using ODIN and a different bootloader. Got that all taken care of and found myself a good stable copy of jellybam with CM10. Been using that for a while pretty successfully other then the battery life being sucked out and a couple random reboots.
Got rid of the SGS2 today and got myself an SGS3

Lets say I soft brick my phone installing something, I won't be able to boot into recovery since the OS isn't booting.
Any advice?
Thank you

You might've had the stock from the 9100 still in your phone so you shoot clear cache, and factory reset your phone and then flash the stock ROM again. Hope this helps.

Past see that post right above yours? Yeah you know the one you would've had to read before you even posted this? That's be the one where he says he got rid of his sgs2. So unless he can mentally manipulate it via brain power, he won't need this advice. But thanks for playing!
I know this question was asked, but however the solution's do not work for me. I have google search, XDA searched, and tried things on my own to figure this out and to fix it...but can not. I re-flashed (using Odin) to STOCK ICS - Worked like a charm. Until, one time, I did this again - And Odin shows that it was successful, and I get the Stock boot up screen (Rethink Possible) and it just stays there. I have tried to rethink possible but cant get a solution. I have read somewhere that putting the phone into recovery to do a wipe/data clear - Would solve this issue - but problem is, I cant get into recovery. And yes, I have had the phone completely off, held Volume Down + Power ... I even tried both Volumes + Power = NOTHING. I dont think I ever tried doing this way back when, before I even rooted...but I know for a fact, after I rooted, I was never able to get into CWM by doing the button combos...I always had to reboot into recovery.
Things I have done, was re root with ODIN. Flash back to complete bone stock. I tried flashing Kernels with Odin etc etc, and never did Odin say it failed...but I can not get my phone to pass the Rethink Possible Screen...the closest I got - was a looping boot up screen. But now, its just frozen there, and never moves forward. Any ideas?
My idea is post http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1372 next time. This isn't development. Also the EMMC "superbrick" bug is confirmed to affect the UCLE5 STOCK KERNEL. So I hope that you didn't flash stock UCLE5 with the stock kernel. Read more info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181. Hopefully you didn't use the odin file from there and if you did and flashed anyways without changing the kernel and wiped data/factory reset you more than likely got the emmc "superbrick" bug.
I had the same exact problem when I flashed back to stock ICS and on first boot got stuck at rethink possible screen. The trick is to go into stock Recovery and wipe data. I hope this works for you.

Lets try and help someone brick a phone if they already haven't. Great Idea.
To the others, yes it is posted in the wrong forum and needs to be moved. That doesn't mean you have to report useless posts to a misplaced thread and continue to fill it with uselessness.

This sounds like whatever you used to root the phone also installed a secondary bootloader for a different device.
You need to provide more detailed information so we can troubleshoot, or...
enter download mode and flash the stock Gingerbread UCKH7 full distribution from the Download Repository that includes bootloaders and param.lfs. Then use the three button method to enter 3e recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. Then you can root, flash a custom kernel, and install whatever firmware you want.

You sir, are Jesus. I have been to the links in your signature before, and you helped me out (without knowing you did) and this time, you came through again! I flashed a few things with Odin with no avail, and no recovery still. But I have this little problem with taking "no" or "not going to work" as my answer...So i kept pulling the battery, doing three button combo...FINALLY got into recovery...and I seriously could not be happier right now! I am back to complete bone stock Gingerbread - Thank you

Was hoping I was in the clear...I can get into CWM using button combo, but however, selecting an option doesnt work. It just removes all text, until I push the power button to replace the text. It weird. So if I were to go to reboot system....and use power button to select, everything disappears besides the CWM logo in the background...So i can not flash any roms, etc via CWM - any idea?
