[Q] Whoa. What happened there then? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK this is an odd one
Using Gingerstreak 2.4.4 and was trying to flatten the battery to get it to calibrate.
It got REALLY flat, it would appear, but once it rebooted the phone seems to have done a Factory Reset and all my settings, apps and widgets have gone!
Contacts have restored from my account OK, but Google Play won't show a list of apps i've purchased. Is there any way to get them to show up or do I have to search manually for them?
Yeah I know I should backup but obviously I haven't. What's the best route back to where I was?

Factory reset with automatic app restore

So when I first got my Evo 3D, I installed a bunch of apps on it from market etc. And then two weeks later, I decided to do a factory reset on it because of an issue that was surfacing after an update.
In any case, after the reset, the phone went through it's initial setup stuff but once I entered my google account info, all my previous text messages + old apps I had installed on the phone were back. I had no idea the phone could do this. Is this stuff somehow linked to our Google Account?
I'm a bit confused because I've seen threads about "backing up" and "restoring" the phone but why we'd need that if the phone does it on it's own.

Becuz backing up jus doesnt back up only apps.....it also backs up ur settings, wifi passwords, also so u dont have to wait for ur apps to download and restore.......
R.I.P. HD2 hello EVO 3D!!
So just to be clear, text messages are backed up somewhere in the cloud without me having to do anything?

If u did a factory reset and they were restored i guess they r in the cloud. I always backup and restore through recovery so im not too sure.

You can change this setting by going into Settings -> Privacy
Remove the check from Back up my settings and or Automatic restore.
Turning off Back up my settings will delete any data from Google's servers.

HELP: Can't stop market from auto updating gmail

Can someone help me? I just moved to PW GB and want to keep gmail 2.3.4 so Launcher Pro still works with the email count on the dock. The problem is after I back-rev it via TB it will auto-update back to 2.3.5 after awhile.
I tried detaching gmail from the market but that doesn't seem to work. I thought that's all I had done back on the froyo PW ROM, and it seemed to work fine, unless I'm forgetting something.
I THOUGHT all I needed to do was deselect "Allow Automatic Updating" in the market for gmail, but there is no checkbox when I bring it up. Does anyone know why, or some other way?
Thanks,
Kidd_Funkadelic
I think I might have it- I ran Market Doctor, and re-linked gmail to the market, now the allow auto updating checkbox has appeared. It's not checked, which is what I want, so I hope it works...
NEVERMIND: This still isn't working- it just updated again.
This is killing me- I have a TON of Launcher Pro widgets and it take me a friggin half hour to start over setting up my home screens each time I try to do this...
Any ideas? Google has been a major thorn in my side on this one...

I done messed up

Hi all. I recently rooted the wife's Att Galaxy S3 phone and proceeded to make several blunders after that. In an attempt to get rid of all the bloatware, I accidentally uninstalled the little "text to speech" portion of the factory SMS app. Big mistake #1. I then looked and looked for the factory messaging app on the Play Store, but couldn't find it. I was hoping that I could download and install it again, and gain the little text to speech thing back. Couldn't find it on the play store anywhere. So then I rushed into uninstalling the whole factory SMS app. That was probably big mistake number 2. So then, in a panic, I factory reset the phone. Hoping that it would reinstall all the factory apps and bloatware and such. Of course doing this only made things worse by getting rid of all her contacts. Big mistake number 3. Now I can't even log into the play store because I have no messaging app. I'm screwed.
What do I do to get messaging aall the contacts back? What is the easiest way to get the factory SMS app back, while making sure it still has that handy little text to speech thing built in? And isn't there some way to log into your Gmail account, and tell the phone to use that backup, to get all the contacts back? I haven't messed up this bad with computers in a LONG time and it hurts lol.
Is there anybody out there? I guess this forum lost a lot of its former traffic
Couldn't you flash a custom rom and restore data during setup? Or extract the messaging app from a stock rom and replace it in system/app with a root explorer. I'm not sure of the dir...

[Q] My phone seriously messed up itself

Yesterday my phone ran out of battery and it took me a while to get back to my charger. I came back late and I put my phone to recharge over night. I wake up and start my phone and it's like it's never been used before. It has done some sort of reset by itself. All these help popups comes up about how to use slides and motion etc etc. My gmail account is not registered to my phone anymore. I go through my applications and now I start to realize that something is seriously wrong.
Some of my apps are missing on my home screen and when I look for them they seem to be uninstalled, so I try to install these apps again and get the "unknown error code during application install -24" error. This is the case for 3 of my paid applications. Portfolio stocks, swift key and maps with me.
I have more problems though, 50 % of all my apps that are still installed will not even start, like all of my games for example, Every time I try to start one of these I get "Unfortunately, application has stopped" This is also the case for some other apps like skype and spotify. Most of my apps have completely dropped the app settings and information. All my whats app conversations are gone for example and my number isn't even registered anymore.
Some apps still have the icon on my home screen but when I try to start these (like googles for example) it says "application not installed" even though the icon is there.
So as you can tell there some major problem has occurred when my phone turned itself of yesterday.
Now I'm afraid my phone ****ed itself up to much to actually be recovered with is a ***** but I'm wondering how the hell could this happen? What kind of information has deleted itself and why is this possible?
And is there anything you guys think I can do except resetting the whole device. My phone is not rooted and I regret not making backups.....
I have a galaxy s3 I9300 with android 4.1.2

factory reset. don't know why it happened

Titanium Backup Question! Or maybe not TB... don't know what happened!

I seem to have accidentally done something possibly using TB, but I'm not sure about that, on my phone (I never deleted/moved the icon it made on my home screen) because I had picked it up and then when I looked at it TB said "all done _______" or something to that effect. I didn't get to see what it said it had done, but now I have no contacts, no phone history... no I don't know what else.
Is there a way to check a log of TB activity so I can at least know what it did?
Also, when I went into the phone settings it said "Unavailable" for my Phone Storage and Internal Storage. After rebooting my phone storage is saying it has 7.33GB available so I think it was wiped (pretty sure it had a lot less space before)? When I try to go into Contacts > Phonebook it force closes and says "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped.".
ADDED ON EDIT: I also notice that my lock screen doesn't have any app icons on it anymore. It used to.
I have contacts backed up from a little bit ago so I can add the half a dozen new ones, but I'd really like to know what it did. My messages are all still there so it didn't wipe that. Apps seem to all be there with current data.
Oh, I think I backed up my contacts to Google recently. I don't usually do that but I think I was asked if I wanted to and I said yes a little bit ago. No idea where to find them or how to restore from there... any tips? Otherwise I'll grab my backup from June.
Thanks!
