Hey Guys.
I recently Hard Bricked my Vibrant while flashing a Custom ROM. It won't turn ON at all.
I am shipping the Phone to Samsung Repair Centre in Texas from India.
I had a talk with the Call Centre where they said that I should just give them the piece without the Battery and Battery Pack and they will only repair my piece and will not Replace it anyhow.
I am fine with them just repairing my piece rather than replacing it, but the issue is that I have only Download Mode available on my piece and the Recovery Mode is Factory Disabled.
My Questions are,
1) Whether they will make the Recovery and Download Mode available back on my Vibrant after repairing it ?
2) The phone is very much off the 30 days mark for the Return Policy to work, so is it still their obligation to Replace my piece with a one that has a Recovery and Download Mode enabled on it if the repairing solution doesn't do the trick ?
3) I am shipping the Phone from India so how should I make sure that the Phone that they have Repaired or Replaced with has the Recovery and Download mode working on it ?
4) Also, in my Country we have a Samsung Galaxy S International available, so is the Motherboard of Samsung Vibrant and the International Model similar for the Service Centre over here to repair it ?
Any Help is appreciated.
Thank You.

So let me get this straight...
I'm assuming u rooted the phone b/c you must in order to even attempt to flash a custom rom...
So you want to send a rooted phone in for repair??
Its very hard to brick the vibrant....u probably have a soft brick....did u try Odin to restore your phone back to stock?? Try that before sending it anywhere

Thanks for Reply.
No, Guys. I know what Odin is.
The phone is Hard Bricked. That means nothing will show up on the screen to do anything at all. It is a well known issue and it is very much possible with your phone too.
From what I have read on the forum, the USB doesn't work due to some bootloader corruption and thus you will not be able to try anything on your phone and Wires need to be physically soldered onto the Motherboard to flash the bootloader and Stock ROM.
I want to enquire about the issue of whether Download and Recovery Mode which comes factory disabled in the newer Vibrants, be enabled by Samsung itself ?
Thanks for your Help.

Have you heard from Samsung yet as to how much the repair cost will be? I have to send mine there after a Kies update killed by boot loader (the most common reason why a Galaxy S won't show any signs of life and only way to truly brick them). I had a local repair shop jtag it before Kies killed it again, but they couldn't fix the hardware lock.
I got it to a point like that as well. Even when I plugged it in to charge and such, nothing happend. I was still able to ODIN it though. What I had to do was just the battery pull method of putting it into download mode (pull battery, sim and sd cards, open ODIN, connect phone to pc, pop in battery while holding volume buttons) and it worked for me.
Like others say, it's really difficult to hard-brick Vibrants. If either primary or secondary bootloader has been corrupted, you shouldn't have Download mode. Try search more and find out what others did to get out of such situations. You should be able to flash away UNLESS your internal SD card has been fried/messed up. The repair will probably cost you ridiculously large sum of money. Samsung will probably replace internal SD memory (I think it's MoviNAND flash memory module) and flash new firmware. But again it will cost money. I would do everything I can possibly think I can do before sending it off to repair centers.
EDIT: If it is your cellular carrier accepting your phone for examination and think that the cause is hardware malfunction, the carrier will REPLACE your phone. If you are not sending it to your carrier, however, and you are sending it directly to Samsung repair center instead, they will most likely incur repair fees. Not sure 100% but Samsung must be able to tell if you've ever flashed custom firmware and flashing custom kernels and ROMs void manufacturer's 1 year warranty. And this will probably be true unless you flash a stock ROM before shipping it, but this is ironic and according to you doing so is impossible. Try Odin JFD again!

I take it yours wasn't hardware locked then. It's interesting that you were still able to get Odin to recognise the phone when it wasn't showing any sign of life. Were the lights turning on?

I'm trying to find out exactly how much Samsung would charge to repair a screwed up boot loader caused by a Kies update. The device was flashed to stock prior to the update; however, there is a TiBu folder on the internal sd. The Samsung agent I spoke with opened a support ticket and said it would be repaired under warranty as long as nothing was done to the device to void the warranty. I'm trying to decide whether to have it jtagged and still have it hardware locked, or take a chance and send it to Samsung for a proper repair, fixing the hardware lock and boot loader.
hi everybody!
all the steps below were taken from galaxys2root.com as well as the files
i have i9100 with a stock rom 2.3.4 (ki4) (and 1.4gb of free memory-maybe that was the problem).
yesterday i rooted it (everything was fine) and then i installed CWM recovery 4.0.1.4 through odin v1.85 (went fine too) and then on my way to find myself a new rom i decided to backup my current one with cwm. then i entered cwm by pressing vol-down+pwr+home and hit "backup". it backed up the system and then moved on to the data and thats where it got stuck for like an hour.... from the guide i understood that it shouldnt take more than 10 min- 15 min top so i figured that im having a problem, i tuned off the phone by pressing pwr button and turn it back on, then the phone got stuck on the sgs2 screen with the triangle so i turned it off again----> this time it didnt came back on, and not responding to download mode neither to polling battery out or not even by connecting to usb and charger- just dead!
how is it possible? and what should i do to bring it back to life? (and myself)
thank you very much(please help...), and sorry for the long text and the bad english
do you have usb jig with you?
i assume you brick your phone.
read my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402286 carefully. anyway, usb jig will not harm your device
No download mode = try jig. Jig doesn't work = JTAG repair by 3rd party repairer (cheaper option) or JTAG repair my Samsung (more expensive option).
thank you,
no dont have one but i ordered from ebay.
is there a chance that my battery died and as a result of the two my phone wont respond?
Possible but highly unlikely. I guess you might as well try a new battery, at worst you'll have a spare when you get the phone repaired.
Fairly common problem go to forum xx download something and follow the instructions dont work go to a totally different forum and ask why ???
CWM 4 very old .
vol-down+pwr+home and hit "backup why ??? thats download mode
My guess would be wrong instructions/firmware .
The other question to ask is it a i9100 or a different version .
jje
i really hope thats the problem, im going to a friend now to try with his battry.
but really how is it possible that my phone is bricked when i didnt even try to flash a new rom, and more than that it happened in the backup process when all the cwm does is a copy operation... so what really had happened?

Jig <=1% chance of getting you into download mode, JTAG = 100% chance of fixing it. Other options = 0.

I should say jog = 50% chances of getting into download mode. JTAG is more like a solution for hard brick(totally unresponsive, bootloader totally mess up, brain system totally corrupted).
Base on my understanding, getting yourself a hard brick is harder than finding a needle in a haystack. If you go through zedomax(galaxys2root.com owner), he mentioned that he flashed all his android device countless time. All he got is just a couple of soft brick. Never a hard brick. Don't waste your money first. Invest on a cheap usb jig which only cost around 2 dollar, compare to JTAG services which cost 50 dollar.
If usb jig doesn't work, try to go for warranty , see whether they charge you or not. If warranty doesn't cover you and cost less than 50 dollar to repair, go for it.
Only go for JTAG if every effort above don't work.
Warning: JTAG is just a service that reinject Samsung firmware into your device. If your phone has hardware failure, I don't think they can help. Unless they provide hardware repair now. If you wanna be sure, email or call them up to see if they provide hardware repair/replace as well, just in case it is a hardware failure cases.

i know its a very rare situation but it happened. I've tried the jig and it didnt work, then i decided to send it back to the store and they told me they have sent it to the manufacturer, now im waiting...
Hey guys iv got a USB jig sitting my drawer, for those of you that dont know... a USB jig is used to reset the custom flash counter using hardware rather then a software mod.
My question is does anyone actually know if its safe to use the JIG on the SIII, last thing I want to do is short it out and activate the self destruction feature we have seen floating around the forum
EDIT: With further research, USB jig does not work to reset counter although does work for entering download mode.
Just use triangleaway
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
As per all the posts . USB jig on SGS3 does not remove the rom count only access download mode .
jje
It stopped resetting the counter on the second Gingerbread bootloader for S2.
The main feature of the Jig -reviving Softbricks - still works across all Galaxy devices, so I wouldn't throw it away anytime soon.
Unless I'm seeing things I thought I reset the counter last time with my jig. I will test next time to make sure.

US Cellular Galaxy S3 Hard Bricked
my US Cellular Galaxy S3 has recently hard bricked after attempting to install a rom called energy 2.0 when i attempted to install it said something about a boot.img i dont know if it was bad thing i dont recall and a code 7 error installation aborted.
so after it said that i just decided id keep the KitKat 4.4 rom i had and left CWM through the restart phone option. so after i hit that it turned off and never turned back on, i cant access Download Mode, Recovery Mode or anything no vibration no nada. so i recently decided to purchase a USB JIG from ebay in hopes that it will set it to download mode? however knowing that i have a US Cellular model (SCH-R830U I Believe) all of the descriptions in ebay for the JIGs say that they work for Sprint models, Verizon models and so on but nothing about them working for US Cellular models, so my question is does anyone know if it will work?, i bought it hoping it will work but i just want to know so i dont get my hopes up haha? thanks.

This is not your phones forum and users are very unlikely to have ever tried .
Hey there,
i really read several topics in the xda-developers forum and tried to help myself. Nothing worked so I'm very grateful for any help of you professionals.
I've got an I9100GSMH which was already flashed with Odin and 2.3.6.
Following (stupid) steps I did:
1) tried to flash I9100XXLPQ - seems to be working but the phone got stuck at the bootloader/samsung logo after flashing
2) after that I tried I9100GXXLPN - but this didn't work anyways.
3) i did a Wipe/Factory Reset in recovery mode and deleted the cache. then I tried I9100GXXLPN - no success
4) now I tried to get back to 2.3.6 with I9100GXXLA1 and used a omap4_all PIT file. The repartitioning worked but not the flash. After that I just pulled out the usb plug, which was kinda stupid.
Now the phone stays fully black and doesn't react to any buttons, no Recovery mode, no Download Mode or anything else.
- What can I do to get back into Download mode? Does this USB jig help/work?
- Which Firmware, PIT, Bootloader, etc. would fit for my phone? (Just working - no matter 2.3.6 or 4.0.1)
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate this.
Greetings
Futuretec
If the phone shows no signs of life, only thing you can do is try a jig which realistically probably has 1% chance of getting you into download mode. Actually, I'm being generous. Probably a lot less than that. But worth a try nonetheless.
So that means you can either have it JTAG'd by a 3rd party repairer or send it into Samsung & hope they either can't tell or don't care that's it's been messed with & they repair it under warranty. Best thing to do would be to send it into Samsung/authorised repairer in the first instance, and if they're going to charge you for the repair (don't bother debating this, btw), ask for a quote. That way you can compare their price to fix it with the cost of a JTAG. Here's a JTAG repairer to give you an idea of what you're probably up for (say $100 USD incl postage to/from ?). I'm sure you'll find others with a Google search, maybe even one close to you.
Edit to add -Actually, given you ended up with bootloop after flashing the I9100 rom in the first instance, it probably wasn't that which killed it. More likely pulling the plug.

My guess would be his flashing of an OMAP .pit on what seems to be an I9100, rather than I9100G (he said I9100GSMH not I9100GGSMH).
Ahhhh yes. You're right ;-) The fine details.

Warranty ain't covering that. Only way you get away with it is if the NAND is so stuffed they can't tell, or if whomever fixes it doesn't care/turns a blind eye.

Hello all,
thanks for your nice respones.
I learned that I have NO G-Version of it.
GT-I9100
Model I9100GSMH
I'm from Germany - anyone now where I can find a professional doing a JTAG "unbrick"? Or do you have other Solutions.
I ordered a USB Jig + Docking station for external battery loader (maybe the battery is low).
Thanks for your help!

Doubtful the jig will work, and battery low isn't the issue.
As mentioned above by oinkylicious, the issue is you flashed an OMAP .pit file meant for an I9100G to an Exynos I9100 phone.
It was probably recoverable yourself up until you did that.
JTAG or Samsung service is your only option at this point. Google for a mobile phone repair shop near you that has JTAG Riff boxes.
Had about the same issue, Odin was stuck in the middle - pulling the plug here was fatal.
USB jig for SGS2 ICS is different, won't help anyway.
Cost me around $120 for a Jtag treat that fixed the flashed data chip
Model GT-i9100, SSN: i9100GSMH

Hi All,
I have a similar issue. Exactly the same phone. But I don't think I've fully bricked it yet.
Under the battery it says Model: GT-i9100, SSN: i9100GSMH
Originally Gingerbread, then I upgraded to 4.03 via official Kies firmware release.
Couple of days ago tried to upgrade to 4.04 using ODIN and got a fail at factoryfs.img. probably used the wrong firmware.
Could still get into download mode at that stage, but can't anymore. I tried to install a couple of different firmware versions of 4.04. I can still get 'added' when I connect to ODIN though.
Can somebody please help me to upgrade to either 4.04 or Jellybean? I'm willing to go fully custom, just don't know how to do it....Can I do it with ODIN? Do i need a new kernel or pit or image or anything?
Thanks heaps, look forward to any help.
Cheers,
Jackson
Hi guys, i'm not a experienced samsung user, i have my S3 like a month ago, bought it in Portugal, i guees it's the international version because it was factory unlocked.
It had stock OS, with lot of apps installed, no root, no custom rom, yesterday I tried un update pending in Samsung Kies (didnĀ“t write the version, dont know if theres a log in Samsung Kies where i can retrieve that version and post here), i made my backup, updated, all day worked ok, i remember answer somebody in Whatsapp and left to charge, today i found it's dead.
I searched and can't access to download mode, recovery mode, i plug to charge and no led, nothing, i just bought online a Micro Usb Jig to try it out.
I downloaded Odin but apparently i have to be in download mode so it appears as Checked, but i cant do a thing with the phone, right now im trying to download the Android SDK to test via cmd if appears as a phone connected at least, but i plug and unplug it in my laptop and not even the usb sounds.
I read about the update that kills S2, but i searched a lot and i dont see the first one with his S3 dead, appreciate any tip, idea, comment you can give to confirm what i dont want to confirm.
