Dropped 3D.... Backlight dim or not working. - HTC EVO 3D

Dropped my 3D, backlight is very dim or none at all. Do I replace the LCD or digitizer? Or, is there a separate light? Any help is greatly appreciated....

I believe the backlight is part of the LCD itself. You are going to have to open the phone up to fix it anyway, so you might as well open it up and just see if maybe a connector came loose or something first before you buy a new lcd.

You need to order a replacement LCD if you don't have or want to go the insurance route. I replaced the LCD and the digitizer (glass screen) on my wife's EVO, not too hard if you follow the videos on Youtube.

Thanks

Sorry fat finger post to soon..
Ok purchased digitized and replaced it. Looked good everything went fine. Till I tried to make a call the screen just goes black and unresponsive. Have to remove battery to fix it. My brother called and it rang but when I answered it went black and I couldn't hear him but he said he heard me. Please help me with this issue.

Ok. Update it works if you use a wired headset. Maybe the speaker is not installed correctly. It was attached to the digitizer when I removed it so maybe it is installed wrong.

It is the speaker and the proximity sensor. There is a tiny rubber cover with a hole in it, which goes over the sensor next to the speaker. It needs this to function properly, otherwise the screen will go off on calls and not come back on.

Is it u shaped. Kinda goes around three sides of the speaker.

Is there a way I can make it work or buy that piece.

Ok new update if you push down on the digitizer in the top right corner it will work so it is the proximity sensor. On another note my digitizer is not flush with the case. This is prob due to the metal shield that I had to pry up to attach the digitizer. I will try and find some good two sided tape to pull the digitizer and lcd back down.

Hi tbone22, same problem as you, I have removed digitizer for 3 times, and finally, speaker works fine, but the screen goes blank on calls, and I must to press screen to came again.
If you have found a solution for this, pls explain it ( double sided tape, or something similar.
Regards.
Oh such fun. Been through this myself.
Here's my curiosity... Are we installing the new digitizers wrong, or is the replacement part different in such a way that it prevents the sensor from properly working?
Also, The sensor is quitesensitive, if you remove the digi and get the sensor in a position where it's unblocked, and load up Z-devicetest which will show you the sensor's state in real time, you'll see a finger within 1-2"of the sensor triggers it, even if it doesn't really block much light.
Seems like a relative measurement, which makes me wonder if some calibration needs to be done after replacing a digi to get the software to understand what the sensor is telling it.
Then there's also the curiosity of the sensor's durability -- is it a hit sufficient to take out the digi also likely to damage the sensor? I considered replacing the sensor itself, as it's a simple SMT component on it's own small little board (read: relatively easy to rework) but couldn't find a domestic source of the part (Capella CM3602)
There is a tiny rubber cover for the sensor with a hole in it. If it is missing the sensor doesn't work properly. I had this problem when I replaced the digitizer and realized I had not mounted the cover correctly. Now the sensor works flawlessly.

There is a way to disable the sensor it is in a thread titled proximity sensor something. As far as rubber boot I wish you could buy it I guess mine was thrown out with the old digitizer. If you use the disable function you will need a app like screen suite to lock your keys when you make a call.

Where did you purchase the digitizer? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place but when you search for htc aria digitizer on bay they are charging $400-500. Also, what's the easiest way to replace the digitizer? Anyone have a link to a YouTube video? Can you just pull up the screen or do you have to take the whole thing apart? I saw one vid where the guy pulled the whole thing apart to change the LCD, but what about just the digitizer?
You could probably hack some sort of DIY replacement for the rubber boot. I believe all it does is block the sensor's peripheral vision, limiting its vision to straight through the circular windows on the glass.

Oh drat. Guess I lost that little piece. Maybe someday (like next time i smash the phone lol) I'll rig something up
TY for info!

Defective screen backlight?

My X2 screen has started to occasionally go very dark, like the backlight (if that's what it's called) is going on and off, if you look at the screen almost straight on you can still see whatever was on the screen. I have reset it and put a couple of different ROMs on it, but same thing, so it seems it is unfortunately a hardware issue.
Does anyone know what the part that provides the light (backlight?) is called and can it be replaced somewhat easily or is it not worth the trouble on a phone this old?
Let me know what you think please. Thanks.
I found a digitizer for $35 and a LCD for $50. I would think just the LCD needs replacing right? What is the digitizer?

The digitizer is for your pixel's if i recall. Can try to replace the LCD.

[Q] Is this an oem screen replacement?

It's the digitizer assembly, not the actual LCD Screen. it's what goes on top.
What he said.
But do you know if your actual screen is broke, or just the digitizer.

My screen is shattered from a drop. It works still without any problems. Would this be what I need to fix it? If so, I'm in for $100.

It probably is all you need if the lcd is still working, however my experience on older htc phones is that they are always very difficult to put in despite what the seller says. Often the lcd gets broken while separating the broken touch screen. The best way is to get a unit of BOTH the lcd and the touch screen digitizer-an assembly- already together. That will still be pretty difficult to do so don't expect less. Won't be long till a bunch of parts phones start surfacing on ebay and screen prices drop.

My Rezound screen is cracked, presses buttons by itself, problem?

(TL;DR version below) I have a BADLY cracked Rezound, which fell from my backpocket when I was taking my pants out of gym class and hit it smack right on the screen. I've looked for signs of a cracked LCD, I've never actually seen a phone with a cracked LCD, only digitizer, and I don't see any 'leaking' colors or discoloration, any dead pixels or anything, it's just a normal cracked phone. However, sometimes when I try to text, message, or write something, some of the buttons (Often the N and G button) doesn't work and it always presses the button next to them, I have to turn it in landscape mode for me to press the N and G buttons, but other buttons doesn't work, so it led me to the conclusion that certain parts of the screen does not respond. However, very rarely does the phone work perfectly, if not for the cracked screen, I can press every button just fine, and the phone doesn't press buttons by itself.
What does this mean? Does this mean the LCD is damaged? as far as I know, weird color display is the only symptom of LCD damage...will getting the digitizer fixed solve these problems?
TL;DR: Some parts of the screen do not work most of the time, phone presses button by itself, will replacing digitizer fix it?
If you have the insurance option and pay the 100 dollar deductible take it because I have read other posts were they have tried a replacing the digitizer and something else would go wrong like a burnt 4G card.

Nope, don't have any insurance, the Rezound is my second phone, with the original Motorola Droid being my 1st, and I have never dropped it so I was in over my head when I bought my rezound D: so is that a yes, that I need to replace my LCD, along with my digitizer??

Should not. If the display is clear with no lines or colors fading, digitizer is all you need.

Digitizer is all he would need, but would recommend replacing them both as a whole. Makes the process much easier, and isn't that much more expensive ($60 on eBay for a LCD + digitizer assembly). Don't have to worry about dust getting trapped under the digitizer when replacing it.

Need Help ASAP Screen Broke

Hey everyone I'm new here, unfortunately my first thread here is bad one. I dropped my phone and the screen is now not working. Let me explain in more depth, the screen appears to be cracked on the inside of the phone. It can be viewed at certain angles, it looks like black streaks. The outside of the screen is fine. Now the phone is not completely black, the top left section pixels are lit up, but you cant make out anything. The bottom lights don't turn on from what I have tried. Can anyone tell me what exactly I need replaced and point me in the right direction? Or what else I should do to troubleshoot the problem? I can also provide a picture if needed. Thanks everyone!
Most likely you need to replace the entire digitizer/screen because if it was just the glass that broke, the screen would still come on just fine. Good luck!

Okay quick update so I can ensure I know exactly what I need replaced. So that top left of the screen that still works but is distorted, I can still see stuff and click on them so it works. And sounds also still work. So is it a digitizer issue? I thought digistizer was to control touches. Can the digitizer break in certain places and work in others? Well based off that what exactly do I need to replace and what did you mean by screen? Thanks for your help!
Can I see a picture?

I had a similar problem with my moms HTC Rhyme... Except she broke the digitizer in a way that there was a black area on the phone's screen, which quickly grew to cover 90% of the screen. You will have to replace the entire screen assembly(glass, digitizer, LCD, etc) Since you damaged the glass, the digitizer or the screen.
