No. There is an Option in the MOD to unlock if you want too but not Automatically. I have used the MOD to get ROOT but still haven't unlocked my Bootloader yet.

if you want to unlock your bootloader
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+Prime+TF201&p=20&s=16
the reason it does not automatically unlock the bootloader when you root your device is because the tool asus provided, it will void your warranty on your serial number. while some user just wants to root the device but not lose the warranty =]

damn, I just got prime yesterday and I updated right away to .21 so Vipermod fails, and I can't downrage. would you still like to give advise how to downrage

Try from the SuperSU app, you might be able to do so.

Your phone can't be registered as "rooted" by using the HTCDev unlock. All it can do is record that your Serial Number requested an Unlock code. They can't confirm you actually used it without looking at your device.
Besides that, you can be rooted without using the unlock, if that's all you want to do. However if you want to install a custom recovery (and subsequently custom ROMs, kernels, splash screens or radios), you will need to unlock your bootloader with HTCDev.
Thanks! when will that change?? Will we ever have a work around??

Difficult to say. It's possible that devs are working on S-OFF, but it's not really necessary for this device. Sprint will service rooted phones, as long as the issue is hardware related.
I have no idea how I lost root?? I just went to use TB and realized I did not have root.. So I had to redo the process. Like I said it's the first time I have evt had it happen on any device... But this is my first HTC so I'm still getting used to it.

[Q] Jelly Bean Unlocking Question

Hi there everyone. Was just looking up guides and tutorials on unlocking my tf201.
I went to the asus website to download the unlock tool http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+Prime+TF201&hashedid=FqCKMQDqgvSncfFM
And I noticed it says: Unlock Device Boot Loader (only works with tf201 ICS OS)
So my question is: Do I have to wait for asus to update their bootloader? or what do you guys recommend I'd do?
Thanks in Advance.

Hey, first of all pls check, if you have a serial number:
Settings->About Tablet -> Status
if S/N is empty, your device doesnt know its S/N. you can add it manually with a tool called "ratchet",
here are the instructions: http://androidroot.mobi/2012/01/31/introducing-ratchet-the-unknown-serial-fix/
credits to the author.
(you find your serial number on a sticker on the bottom of your tablet, or on the package in which it was shipped..)
After that, when you can see your S/N in Settings->About Tablet -> Status, you can try again.
if this fails to, you can try the following:
Some users reported, that they where able to unlock, after a factory reset. but remember: you loose root with factory reset and there is no root-method atm for JB.
If all the stuff didnt work: you are one of the "lucky" guys: there will be no unlock for your device and asus refuses support. (you are not alone, me and many others are with you)
atm there is an official asus employee named Tien, who is trying to help us. no success so far, but lets hope..

I haven't used CM10 since the early Craig builds, but reading around it looks like at least one version of CM10 here in the development area doesn't use the newer JB bootloader so if you had already upgraded ota to JB then you have the latest JB bootloader and CM10 won't work unless you use one that has been built based on the new bootloader.
In my opinion, don't get hung up on thinking CM10 is the end all be all for our Primes. Either Craigs stock JB Rom or Hairybean 1.3 give a very nice JB experience with lots of tweaks.
Good luck

I first saw this behaviour about 2 weeks ago. I think you get this situation if you go direct to the download page/tab. If you navigate off the download page to another page on the site and then return (not by using the browser's back button but using links on the page) you find the drop down list is populated.

Rooting an locked stock TF201 with jelly bean

Is there a way to root the tf201 running stock JB while keeping it's bootloader locked ?
I have tried running over all the threads here to find an answer and it seems to me that all methods to root the tablet requires flashing of a new boot loader..
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
There is a serious aversion to searching on this board even a cursory browsing of all the forums would yield the answer because it is asked every day.
In short, NO, not without unlocking.
Thank you for the reply..
The main issue I have with unlocking the bootloader is that i will not be able to get future updates from asus.. Maybe there is a method to get rooted by unlocking and maintaining the original bootloader?
Really have to get rid of all the junk asus preinstalled on the device :\

Root and recovery are not really related..
If you are running the stock recovery you should be able to use ASUS apk to unlock it.. Then you can flash your custom recovery and change to whatever rom you like, just make sure you are flashing a JB ROM.
I am running the stock recovery and stock JB.
Every time I enter the input the info in the stock ASUS unlock apk it fails. I have read several places that it only works on ICS and that ASUS turned it off anyway. (although I haven't tried it in a week or so since everyone seems to think it doesn't work at all anymore; I will try it tonight)
Or is there a hacked ASUS apk that will unlock on JB and/or without talking to the ASUS server?

I unlocked mine on JB just a few days ago. The tool still works with JB (the notice on the site is outdated).
Some people have noticed that some primes (especially ones that have been repaired) don't want to unlock for some reason.
There is no way to unlock other than the official tool.

The reason the unlock fails is because the serial number is not showing up in ASUS DB to provide the unlock code. The unlocker communicates with ASUS to get an unlock key for each serial number and if your not in their DB well.... No unlock for you.
I did verify the sticker matches the digital serial number. I had hoped they would be different so I could update the digital one.
Anyone have a good contact at ASUS that would check/update their database?
The emails I have had with them so far have not been very helpful.
Edit:
I wonder if I change my digital serial number to one that someone else has already used to unlock will it send the unlock code for that serial number to me? And would it work? Or would I brick my Prime?

Hi guys. I have been searching around for a few days on how to unlock my bootloader. the asus site has a tool for ics, and i am on jb already. I just cant stand the stock rom, and really wanna try custom stuff, as my phone is on cm10.1 and my old one was on cm10. Called asus to ask if there is something im missing and the tech guy said dont unlock, cause it voids warranty..duhh...lolz...anyway, would really appreciate if someone could enlighten me on how to unlock and root as im already on stock 4.1.1, and my prime is still a virgin.....thanks
I used this method my prime was on software 10.4.2.17 and it worked fine for me. The ICS unlock tool worked fine and I was on jelly bean bootloader

Did you RMA your TF201 before? I did because of WLAN-problems. They changed the WLAN-board so that the MAC-address of this board didn't fit to the rest of the device anymore (ASUS.TW-hq-support told me so). Because of this tablet-ID/MAC-address-mismatch the unlock wouldn't succeed. I always received the well known "network error bla-bla" message using the ASUS-unlock-tool. MAYBE unlocking could work as soon as you are able to change/spoof the MAC-address of the WLAN-board.
I had to RMA it back again to let them change the MAC-address so that I was able to unlock the tablet without any problems. But pay attention - I've heard that sometimes ASUS wants some cash for doing this job (~ 100 Euro + transportation). I was "lucky" because the WLAN-port again was broken and I pleased ASUS to also change the MAC so that it fits to the rest of the board.
Good luck & regards,
Roy

I have the same question.
I want to install the TWRP 2.5 and i read that if you load the wrong bootloader version of twrp you could permabrick the tf201....
Haw can i determine my bootloader version?
By now I'm on cm10 nightly rom...
I already found the answer after much searching and am already rooted and on a custom rom.
If the Nvdia logo at bootup is at the bottom right of the screen, you are on Jelly bean bootloader. Else, if it is below the Asus logo, it is ICS.
Hope this helps.

If you have the ICS bootloader still then do the nvflash process first. It can only be done while on ICS and will make you brick proof.

If you have the ICS bootloader still then do the nvflash process first. It can only be done while on ICS and will make you brick proof.

I rooted my tablet on 4.2.1 using motochopper. Then I used titanium backup and I guess it automatically downgraded my tablet to 4.1.1 How can I unlock even though my tablet is already rooted?

turns out I was running 4.1.1 the whole time. I must have been hallucinating or something or maybe there was a glitch because my dmclient keeps crashing. How do I unroot, though?

How to change Mac Address
roygaard said:
Good luck & regards,
Roy

I had to wait 5 minutes before submitting changes because of this "new user"-forum rule and came back a few hours later because (guess what) I had other things to do. Now I'm too tired to find the typo(s) again. If you find the expected typo - you may keep it.

I had the same problemas you. I RMA'ed my tablet for something and when it came back the unlock tool would not work not matter what. It gave me that same error: "unknow error occurs which may be a network issue. please wait and try again later."
I couldn't figure out why it was not working except that some poeple who RMA'ed could not get it work. Your explanation makes sense. Now I need to find a solution. Do you have any idea it is possible to change the MAC address without sending it back in? My warranty has run out anyway. I did acheive root with the new motochopper method. But this will not allow me to get TWRP or other custom recovery (meaning I cannot change the rom - which is what I really want to do) until I have unlocked the bootloader.
I hate how slow this device is with stock rom. I know it is capable of so much more. Anyway, If you have any ideas how to get this Mac Address and ID to match with root but locked bootloader I would love to hear.

Hi.. did u ever figure how to upgrade the bootloader from unlocked/root ICS to JB boot loader?

[Q] Updated to 4.3. Is it too late to root?

So I had plugged my device in to my computer, and it updated to 4.3. I did a factory reset, but it is too late. Does this mean my bootloader is now locked without a way to unlock at the moment? I came across ★ [Rom][I605VRUEMJ9][4.3] Stock Root Odex/Deodex [12/08/13]★ - xda-developers but it appears that I need an unlocked bootloader in order to flash it. Any advice on what I can do? I tried the instructions at Root I605VRUEMJ9 - Verizon Galaxy Note 2 SCH-I605 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Firmware | True Android | #1 Custom Android Resource but got a failed (and am now worried that the KNOX counte ris stuck at 0x1.

For the moment, yes. Attempting to return to a previous stock ROM, even via ODIN, will fail - I tried this myself last night. ODIN hangs on trying to install the last part of the ROM (the bootloader, if I remember right). If you do try to use ODIN to restore a stock ROM, you will need to run a repair install of the 4.3 ROM (you'll lose all data on the phone). Fun stuff.
So in short, we're locked & unrooted if we update using the official update via Verizon's update software.

Damn. So I am completely willing to wipe everything. I already have everything backed up. If I am willing to have everything wiped, is there a way around it, or just wait for the good folks here at xda to stick it to Verizon

You can try to root with kingo (google it, xda won't allow links to it) but you may be out of luck on unlocking the bootloader again unless someone finds another exploit.

I saw references to kingo, but it looked sketchy. Can you tell more about it, and perhaps why XDA doesn't allow links?

Nothing I can tell you that you can't find searching for it. Plenty of conversations about it already. No need for another one really.

Thanks - I did find a lot threads. It does look sketchy, though nothing definitive.
Unless someone has found a root method for one of the other Samsung 4.3 builds, you better go out to your nearest wholesale store and buy the jumbo size of Vaseline.

Kingo works on Note 3. Obviously different device but in theory it should work.

I did an OTA of 4.3 on my Note 2 already and was able to root using Kingo, no problems.

Ditto here. Though trying to flash a recovery (say, through Goo Manager) trips the Knox counter....and fails to boot ('unauthorized software' message)

Yup. Bootloader is locked. That's why there's a sticky saying not to take OTA's.

Aren't both the S4 and N3 4.3 builds rooted? Maybe you're thinking bootloader unlocking???
After OTA my n2 lost root.
I can also confirm, that Kingo roots the N2 after taking the Verizon OTA, but the bootloader remains locked. For me acquiring root again was great, because I use the Xposed framework a lot and many other apps that need root. As for the bootloader, I'm sure that sooner or later, one of the great devs will kick butt and get it unlocked. For those guys that challenge is like an itch.

Wouldn't bet on it. S4 and Note 3 are both locked and will likely remain that way. Never say never but the likelihood is slim.
You're right and honestly as long as I have, root I don't care much anymore. If it happens great, if it doesn't ok. Sooner or later we will upgrade to a new toy. Lol
