Hi
I have a weird problem...
Sometimes (not always, but like once every two days), my Hero just scrolls to the right in like every app... even on the homescreen
For example:
-on the homescreen, he scrolls to the right, so towards the last homescreen.. I scroll back, but de hero has its own will and scrolls to the right again...
- in the browser the Hero scrolls to every link (like I would scroll with the scrollbal to the right and it jumps from link to link)
- in an app with different tabs (like People) my Hero also scrolls to the tab on the right, so he goes from "all contacts", to "faorites", to 'groups", to "updates and events" etc...
- in messages, when I want to begin typing, the button "send" is selected in green (like I would've scrolled to the right)... when I'm typing, it doesn't occur..only before I've started typing...
also, I've noticed that like in the browser, when I hold my phone horizontally, the problem doesn't occur.. and when I hold it back ertically, the problem is gone (I think....) ...
Anyone who knows this problem ? Pretty weird, I know
Thanks in advance !
greets
PS: maybe it has to do with the G-sensor (cfr. holding horizontally: no problem...)
I guess that your problem is the trackball, it may be a bit loose on one side so that it will roll sometimes to the right.
Mine does this from time to time. I think it is dirt under the trackball. I just sping the trackball round a few times and it goes away.
HTC support instructed me to send the device to warranty repair due to this issue. Haven't done so yet, though.
Same here, also i think that is a only dust.
After re-spining TB it goes back to normal state
This has been demonstrated a common problem with the Hero. They told me to restore the firmware which is bull. Something's broken, hardware or software we don't know but I should think hardware.
Yeah, I'm still not sure whether this issue is software or hardware related. The whole dust thing seems a bit weird. Especially when my Hero accidently did this -right- after I got it out of the box and started it for the first time.
It's annoying though, but a flick of the scrollwheel always fixed it so far. (or reset)
Ah... I posted previously about this- My fault. Looks like a common problem.
Has anyone found a solution that works?
I also have this problem, for a while I thought it was only me...
I have same problem from time to time, not very frequently.
It's not a "dirt" problem, it has something to do with magnetic fields, which affect the trackball's logic. That's why you see this from time to time, at special areas.
Since a couple of days I have a new problem... the automatically scrolling to the right doesn't seem to appear anymore, but now I can't scroll anymore to the right with the trackball... all the other directions work... could this be software-related then (it cannot scroll anymore in the same direction it used to scroll automatically to...) ??
if it is just dirt... nay idea how to clean that? I've tried rolling with the TB a lot in different directions and even tried with a light moist cloth...

What, the Earth's magnetic fields?!
Actually that would explain a lot! I followed the textbook advice, and re-flashed the ROM. All was ok until this morning, and the screen started leaping left, rather than right!
...So I've reset the device, and downloaded the ROM again, and reflashed.
I have to say, I'd be surprised if it was a "dirt" problem, because every HTC I've ever owned has been very well sealed. (Unlike my Nokias!)
Is there any way to test if it's magnetic? (I guess "with a magnet...")
Ths has been discussed in greater detail here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=546206
Hmmm... no closer to an answer though. I'll see if my re-flashing helps and will let you know.
I'm not sure it's worth returning my unit: sounds like it's a generic defect.
My network definately alters a lot as I travel a great deal. And I'm often in/out of Wireless zones.
Yesterday I tried the simple solution I turned off the device... put it back on.... and everything seems to work properly now even the trackball scrolls great again... don't know about you guys, but this solved the problem for me sometimes, the answer is just around the corner...
It happened on mine today (this morning when I came in to work) but it went away after it warmed up. It was cold this morning (2 degrees C or so).
It's not associated with WiFi, and I've tried resetting, reflashing and even switching off.
The problem keeps coming back though. It's completely random and really annoying...

I am convinced this is a software issue. The problem is easy to reconstruct:
It is as simple as this: If there is data traffic in the background while on Edge network, this happens. I cant see how this could be a hardware problem. I have found this since I am on a train 3 hours every day and has had a lot of time to figure this out.
Sadly I havent found a way to disable edge network.

That's useful: I also commute daily and I think yours is a likely solution.
I just wonder if this is a problem with a batch of Heros... otherwise you'd think everyone would be suffering. It sounds like if I exchange my unit, there's every chance the new one would have the same problem.
I was using my TFP while brushing my teeth this morning and noticed something very strange. Did my diligence and didn't noticed anything else on the forums about it.
The TFP was on the counter as I was reading through the morning's posts via Google Reader. I opened a link that went to the stock browser and noticed that after I stopped touching the tablet, it developed some white lines, maybe 3/4 cm long and 3 mm or so apart, all along the length of the left edge of the tablet while it was in landscape orientation.
When I picked it up, the problem went away. When I put it down, it happened again after a second, so I picked it up again, and it went away again. This time I took a closer look to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me, so I was holding it a bit longer. After I put it down, the problem didn't reappear, and hasn't yet happened again, even after carrying it into work with me.
Has anyone else had this problem? The lines went down the entire edge and into the back button. The lines weren't static either, changing length horizontally but not vertically.
I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software problem, but either way, I'm inclined to exchange, return, or RMA it. Starting to have enough minor problems that it's becoming a major fuss.

Now that I think about it, I had just showered - humidity could be a factor, but that was like 20 minutes earlier.
white lines
I had something very similar happen yesterday..see pics.
Btw. Steamed music and Bluetooth connected to Bose with no problem.didn't try video.
Received mine via UPS from Best Buy at 4pm, returned it at 8pm. BB ordered a new one, which will arrive 01/14.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727
Wow, mine didn't do anything nearly that bad. Maybe that's the next phase of this issue though.

my tf201 has this problem occasionally as well.
it seems to be a memory/multitasking issue in android itself.
on my tf201 it happens when switching from a game to a non-gpu or graphics intensive app.
simple solution is that you need to kill some of the tasks in the background, then restart your app. then it goes away.
it seems to be some kind of memory leak in the graphics subsystem...

Whew... As long as it's not some sort of physical damage, I can live with it
It went away with newer firmwares. Pops up once in a while, but I think it's related to the graphics system. If I unload everything from the quickswitch, the triangle issue and this one don't occur anymore.
Anyone figure this out? I get it the odd time as well.
See attached. (The vertical lines in the picture are just from the camera.)
i've been getting the same problem with mine, just recently, i've done a hard reset but it comes right back. I requested an RMA from Asus, is it worth sending in and is it something that is fixable or is it just a software issue with 4.0.3.
And where is this quickswitch that you unloaded everything from..
i mailed it back, i told them i either wanted the wifi & the static lines fixed, a refund or an upgrade to a 700. Not that they care
Hey guys I'm a noob here and am expecting my ATP to arrive any moment now.. I have been on the forum reading all of the positives and negatives about the ATP. (BTW I have 3 Children and I think i'm more nervous now then when they were born..) Can someone give me a quick guide on what I should do/look for when I first un-box the baby...
For example. Should I charge the ATP fully before performing the setup?
Check to see if there is a Serial Number?
Which root process would you advise me to use?
A) Root into HC then use Rootkeeper , then update to ICS
B) Update to ICS then root using viperboys method.
Thanks in advance...Virtual Cigars for everyone..

have it charging. you can still use it plugged up. I would say update to ICS first. then you could use viper prime time to root. then if you want viperboy just released Viper control to allow for overclocking.
Before all that though check to make site you have serial number. if no rush or need to root immediately, then just sit back and enjoy the device as of is out the box after you upgrade to ICS. no need to rush things. Layback n da Maybach n enjoy your new toy. Rooting and overclocking will always be here.
I'd hate for you to get device. then rush all of this and next thing you know something gets messed up. Let the Prime experience set in first. Then begin the Modding.
So in other words your saying breathe. I Thank you for your advice there is so much information floating around that its hard to keep up.
Crap. I was writing this nice long reply and Demandarin jumped in and told you the same things, sort of LOL! He is right though. As I say reduce your risks while enjoying the tablet...Here's what I had said:
Why not wait until you are succesfuly updated to iCS to root It's not a problem to root beforehand, but you always lessen the chances of something going wrong by going stock where possible. A lott of folks got slammed with reboot loops when they updated to ICS, but I saw no connection to rooting that was obvious. I am just advising what I would do personally to reduce risk.
Also, first thing: Check that serial number. Not on the box, but if you've been reading you will know to look in settings, about tablet, status. If you have an "Unknown" (and there were a fair nuumber of these, though I am not trying to make you MORE nervous, LOL!) If THATS good, then start charging ASAP. If your OOTB experience is like mine, the unit will boot when you plug in to charge. Let it get upa ways before doing the IC Update (Requires 15%, but again, for less risk, I like a fully or mostly charged unit for these operations. You can play with it while charging so you won't be sitting on your hands, LOL.
Finally, plug the charger in "Upside down" (Asus Logo upside down) Not all are like this, but all 4 TF101's and the 2 Primes I have had, if you plug in with the charger facing up (and wide blade wall socket on left, the charger does not have polarity forcing plug) you will feel a slight charge, like a buzz running throughout all metal parts of the Prime. I an not sure WHY this exists for most people at least here in US, but Asus supposedly redesigned the charger twice to no effect. Also, I don't think it is necessarily harmful, all I know is I don't like it. We have some sensitive circuits, and flash ram in these, so a current running over the casing, no matter how small cannot be a good thing.
I think it's the AllSpark, LOL! Enjoy your new "baby" I hope he/she doesn't grow up to disappoint you.

No Prime yet...The anticipation is killing me. Its been "Out for Delivery" since 6:32Am. Is there any way to induce UPS?

Man, I know the feeling. I had the day off, intentionally. My UPS deliveries typically come between 12-1, and this was no exception. Heck, I was so excited I made my own unboxing video... (didn't post it, though. There PLENTY of those. Of course, don't get your hopes up on the GPS either. Not trying to rain on your parade, really. Easy fix is Bluetooth Tethering to a GPS receiver. Amazon has some used ones for $10-20 . Problem solved, if you want GPS for Copilot or anything.
ATP Baby Born 4:09pm eastern standard time..Had its first feeding (ICS) of course. A slight light bleed on right side not anything big, has serial number, updates are all on and its running well. Will update after I can finish the wellness check.

Same here usually my UPS comes between 2-3 but nooooo yesterday he came at 6:30 I was livid the whole day sitting upstairs staring out the window at the road around 3 for over a hr lol
Ever since I upgraded to Honey comb I guess it is... the upgrade that HTC put out, my GPS and Pen have been screwy.
I drove all the way to chicago and back last year with my flyer as the GPS and it never lost a signal. Now I can't drive 1000 feet without it continously losing and finding signal. I have it placed in the front window of the car...it is in the otter box case, I dont know if that would cause a problem but I did take it out for a 50 mile trip and it still wouldnt do right. Any one else having this issue?
Also the pen... For some reason I can be writing on the screen, inking along and move my hand away... and it just keeps inking. I can be maybe 1-2" away from the screen and it just keeps inking. Is there away to adjust the sensitivity or anything like that?
A lot of honeycomb users are reporting GPS problems. We can only hope that HTC will issue a patch to fix it.
As to the pen … two things to check, make sure the nib is free to move in and out. When you make contact with the screen the nib moves back and begins to draw power. I have read that a weak battery can also cause what you described.
thanks for the reply, i have a new battery and will change it. Glad to know i am not the only with gps issues and i am not crazy
Hi all,
My dog decided tonight he would walk up my bed to where my tablet was whilst I was leaning over getting a drink. I immediately moved his paw from the screen and didn't think much of it as it auto locked - pressed button to unlock it and there's this blue line, pretty unhappy as I've not had it long but did take out insurance on it.
I randomly started tapping the screen to see if it helped but it didn't, but then I was tapping around where the dogs only paw went on the screen and tapping it around there seemed to take the line away.
Then I did it again and it came back so I know how to get the line and get it off, but my question - it it likely or possible to get worse or to the point where it shows one day and won't disappear.
Shall I claim on the insurance? What if I send the item with the blue line and by time it reaches them its gone?
I've uploaded some YouTube vids of what's going on
P. S the second video is the plastic/rubber end to my back scratcher so nothing too hard.
Cheers
