Hello guys, i just checked my phone specs with an App and it tells me my SXS has a total of 698mb ram, shouldnt it have 1024mb?
Best regards
~300Mb are reserved for System, cache, dalvik and -idontknow- more things.
there is a post explaining the exact usage (Search)
Didnt know the kernel reserved physical memory, Thank you mate
Hey I know that from the 300 mbs of missing ram on my Xperia are shared between GPu and kernels wateva but then why in task managers it shows that from the remaining 697 mbs the android OS is taking 70mbs and I obviously cnt kill that so why does it take another 60mbs after even sharing 300 mbs, cud someone plz explain thnx

Because there are still additional system applications running in the background.

Hey guyzz..
I have rooted x10 ... my rom is always 60-70 mb free... i want to clear it to atleast to 100+ mb... I have not uninstalled any system app uptill now... coz i uninstalled mediascape ... but then was unable to restore it through titanium backup .. dnt reaaly knw how to restore uninstalled system application.... plz help me to free up may ram and to restore system apps through titanium backup...(in case i want my apps back)
thanks!
Basicly you just need to reflash with SEUS and then just install a task killer app from the market, plenty to choose from.
Should be straight forwards enough

mediascape doesn't use much ram. facerecognition, semccheckin and uwlopservice do.

why do you need to have 100mb+ free? why this magic number?
linux based systems are very intelligent when it comes to memory management - if the ram is not being used then it is wasted is the way linux looks at it. 60-70mb free means nothing in the linux world - it keeps frequently used processes in memory so they launch faster but if another process comes along demanding ram the linux core will kill off the running-but-unused process in order to make space.
this is why task killers do more harm than good - constantly killing processes only to have android fire them back up again as it wants them running. you will find that a side effect of this is poor battery life also, as the system is doing much more work than it needs to.
basically, in android/linux - free ram does NOT equal a quicker running system.
ok .... grt... i didnt knw this..!! and this means even if my memory goes extreme down to 20-30 mb free even though it wont harm ... m i rite?? nd shud i disable task killer??
When my X10 runs a few hours and use it I have 28 to 40MB RAM. And it's still fast, but when you have 30MB RAM and do multitasking with big apps it will get a bit laggy.
How much free ram memory xperia mini have ?
And does it have 512mb total ram or something like 418mb ?
Story is the Xperia has 512M of RAM, but 177M or so of RAM are taken up by the O/S. Leaving something along the lines of 335M free for other apps.
I don't know why all the programs that report memory don't show the memory reserved by the O/S.
Would be interested in knowing if such an app exists.
Mike
can u post screenshot of ram memory status ? so if i'am understand u, xperia have 335mb free ram with stock rom ? thats cool

That's the theoretical amount of memory, when I run max kill, I end up with 191MB.
If you go by the utilities they show you total memory its 335mb
Mike
ok, than it have 355mb ram not 512mb is 191mb of ram enought to run hd games ?

It's truly 512MB RAM, but the operating system (Android) also occupies RAM, for example in panamamike's case, the OS uses 191MB for its running so the amount of RAM left for other programs is about 512 - 191 = 355MB RAM.
I haven't tried any HD games but you can watch these videos :

Actually, the math goes like this.
512MB total - 177MB [Hidden by Android for system] - (166-170MB) [Android O/S apps] 22MB [Kernel] approx 143MB available to the user. Max Kill, kills some of the Android O/S stuff, but it starts right back up automatically. I don't know enough to determine if I can really turn some of that stuff off, but ATM I'm just letting it go.
Also note, if we could root the phone, there are applications that SE has installed as part of the O/S that could be removed to free up more memory.
It's a bit disheartening to see such little memory truly available. I don't know what typical HD games need to run.
Mike
i don't understand, if system hide 177mb ram for system, why he(system) double use ram memory ? 1. 177mb and 2. 166-177mb(for os and apps) why ?
never mind, thast cool phone..
Most apps/games store the big files /data on yer sdcard. The app needs to have this feature implemented.

Well, we all know the ray has 512 MB of RAM built in. But if you use tools like Android Assistant, it tells you you can only use about 332 MB of it. I searched in other forums and found out, the "hidden" part of the RAM is reserved for the gpu. My question now: is there a way to reallocate the RAM and get some of the reserved available for user apps? Because i constantly get freezes wit oom.
I dont how to do it , but i am also disappoint when i saw ray has only 315+ RAM , sony site says ray has 512 MB
I am sure if we try to re allocate it we will get problems , why not you try cyanogenmod ?
it is faster and less RAM intensive
i am running on cyanogenmod 7.2 , but if i use launchers like spb shell 3d , my free ram, even at reboot, max caps at 110 mb. thats nothing.

i think is possible but it will be worst! most of the phone speed is given by the gpu (example samsung galaxy ace has 800MHz but lower gpu alocated memory and the phone speed is a disaster)
I think the only way to 'gain' some extra RAM is enabling SWAP.
On my old samsung, I once had a swap partition of 256 to extend the memory.
The good: you have real extra ram
The bad :
-swapping is slowing down the phone, as the sd-card speed is never sufficient.
-SD-card will die sooner, as you read/write a lot to same partition.
So swapping is not advised to my opinion, and others.
Some way to make some memory free (and speed up your phone) :
Use a clean rom (like 4pda.ru) and with the "autostarts" tool, try to disable android apps that automatically try to start itself at boot, startup or other events.
I found out that a lot of android apps try to start themselves even when you plug in the power cable (google maps for example), or connectivity changed, application installed etc.
With the autostarts tool (or rom toolbox) you can influence these triggers to prevent apps to startup themselves in the background.
Hi pls is their anyone who could fix the high ram usage a mod or something?

What do you exactly think ram is, or "high ram usage"?
What are you expecting to be fixed?
This phone has plenty of ram, stop looking at the numbers and thinking your too high, don't listen to anyone that tells you that you need to kill tasks to make the phone better, they are all wrong!
Android works on a linux kernel, its not like windows and does not slow down (noticeably) when you multi-task, it manages its ram usage, it caches processes to save you time and battery next time. When it's ram is truly full (which I doubt yours ever is) it kills it's own apps.
So in summary unless android is closing all your apps when your trying to use them, stop worrying about ram!
/rant
Please everyone stop saying that Windows does not use the RAM for Cache.
Just because it doesn't show the values in Task Manager doesn't mean it isn't doing so. The Resource Monitor tells otherwise.
port76, if you're rooted you can throw out all the apps that you do not use (e.g. the whole Samsung-Cloud stuff, Samsung Accounts, AllShare, ...) which will give you several MB more of RAM available for caching.
For the rest, refer to this: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/
ivy thrown all bloatware still high ram it was perfect on my s2 in fact my s2 has more ram sometimes my s3 lags .. thanks anyway guys for feedback

No mention of what firmware you are using . Try updating top latest firmware .
jje
ram usage is fine on the S3, theres no fix needed.
unused ram = useless ram
if ur S3 lags, it must be something else
Jesus F****** christ!
I would rather have a fix for the redrawing of my launcher...
When i'm browsing and go back to the launcher it redraws/restarts...
Because other launchers beside touchwiz are not locked in the memory...
thread closed. there are plenty of discussions on ram usage. please use the search function

Low RAM, Only (804mb)
I know that Candy Crush is RAM/memory hungry. And I know that my phone has low RAM.
When the app opens, it lags alot and mostly when i enter a level i have black background (not playable because jellies are not visible), very rarely it shows good background and jellies are visible (playable). The most recent update is more worse for phone as it don't even show jellies. The newer versions lags more and more.
I am using an old version now 1.57.0.3. It works almost smoothly but it has less features. I want to play on newer version of candy crush. Is there any way to trick the RAM or other android settings that make newer version of candy crush to load perfectly so that i have good background (not black)?
Simple answer is no. You will have to get a better device.
Its sad to hear that
May be some other developers know some way to do that

Its because it is placbo. These apps target noobs that dont know any better. The reason this doesnt work is the way android loads the SDcard. It is loaded last long after ram is assigned.

Trust me..
I stole my brothers credit card and downloaded ram expander.
These apps r bs.
The only way I can tell is disable/unistall unnecessary apps/bloats.
Force stop apps so that they can't run in background and eat ram.
Greenify is the best solution.
U can try gltools if u r rooted.
I don't know about Ur gpu,cpu but 804
mb is enough for this game.

I see more than 1/2 of ram is occupied. In order to do experiment with greenify. I want to know how which apps are occupying the ram and how much of it. How to know that?
And you can see gpu in google. My phone is samsung Galaxy SII plus (GT-I9105P) please see
I want to know how much ram each app is occupying. Is there any app that tell this
i am waiting for any assistance, please look into this tread for troubleshooting
