Ok so I have been following unknownforces downgrade thread for a while already but ran into a problem. My EVO is brand new never been unlocked (atleast as far as I know) it says locked on the bootloader and s-on. When I took the 2.17 zip and put it on my SD card and rebooted to bootloader nothing happened I mean it did read it and check it but it did not ask me to upgrade. So my question is why didn't it ask me to upgrade and should I try and flash the 2.08 ruu EXE and start from scratch then see if it will ask to upgrade the pg86img

Did you rename the whole zip to PG86IMG.zip or did you take out the system image and rename that?
And if your on 2.17 base, you can't take a 2.08 ruu without changing your main version.

Ok i did rename the whole file to PG86IMG.zip and like i said did not ask to upgrade and im on 2.08 so my next question is should i be using a 2.08 zip instead of the 2.17 that is in unknownforces OP btw looks like im not the only one having this problem. Finally downgraded and rooted my evo 3d running CWM recovery!!! So can i go and flash any cdma rom i want now?
I had the same problem..it would not detect the PG86IMG.zip for nothing.. i tried like 20 something times..renamed with Pc/Astro file explorer/Root Explorer nothing would give. I even redownloaded it with Pc and my E3D and still a no go..BUT.... I finally got it to detect it. Cant remember what i did but the last thing i remember doing was a battery pull and did the Power/+ Volume to boot Into Bootloader and it worked..but still not sure if that solved it or not..
Evo 3D ViperROM v.2.5 downgraded HBoot 1.5 to 1.4
solution?
Hey guys,
i'm having the same problem.
I'm on hboot 1.53.0007 unlocked with htcdev and S-Off.
With hboot unlocked and also with re-locked the phone doesn't install the PG86IMG.zip file.
I saved the file definitively on the root of the sd-card and also it's name is correct.
I'd appreciate any kind of help.
Thanks for reading and replying.

The only suggestion that I thought of is to make sure the file doesn't have a double extension like PG86IMG.zip.zip. If file extensions are hidden in Windows, it will look correct but not be.

Looks like you've got 1.50 with S-ON.
Then here's what you need to do:
1. Register at http://htcdev.com
2. http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ choose e3d sprint and press begin
3. follow the instructions (it might take a while)
4. flash custom recovery and SU
5. ?????
6. PROFIT!!
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought you can't downgrade hboot 1.5. To downgrade, you need s-off, and I'm pretty sure s-off is impossible with 1.5 as of this point.

yes but the first step is to unlock the boot loader but it doesnt work. I get nothing on my screen to continue bootloader unlock
Stuck at step 13 right? You have to reflash to stock Ruu and u will be able to unlock.

I've got directions for using the RUU PG86IMG.zip linked in the guide/flashing notes in my signature. But yes, you put the correct RUU zip on the sdcard and boot to bootloader.
Ive flashed the ruu before but now my evo 3d wont recognize the file.
Ive tried naming it pg86img.zip and just pg86img

Did you relock your bootloader?
Your bootloader needs to be locked to be able to update with PG86IMG.zip (or any other).
Relocked didn't work. It's looking pretty grim.
Nononononononononononono you don't lock you bootloader to update PG86IMG's that makes it impossible. Your bootloader has to be UNLOCKED and you HAVE to be S-OFF

I've flashed PG86IMG.zip all the time with Unlocked bootloader. I would not relock it.
Let me ask an obvious question -- are you s-off? If you are s-on it will never work.
**** actually after I thought about it for a min, it doesn't matter if your bootloader says Locked, or Unlocked or Relocked as long as you are S-OFF you can flash the file.
and yes it does matter if its GSM or CDMA.

Wait what? Are you talking about the splash screen? or the boot annimation?
Because you cannot flash the splash screen while s-on. Impossible!
The splash screen is the White HTC screen by default. This screen sits in the same partition as the Firmware and Radio and you cannot access it while S-On. Again I say Impossible!
My bootloader actually say locked buy I'm s-off. I can flash the splash screen , radio or firmware at any time. Does not have to be unlocked as long as you are s-off.
Thank you all for your feedback,
However I am S-OFF (Using the Unlimited.IO solution) with their version of HBOOT (This may be the cause)
I am currently testing all options before releasing any more items.
Rezipping a splashscreen using winrar not 7zip - Completed
Recreating the .bmp file - Completed
Flashing the splashscreen using fastboot - Completed
Still having the issue :crying:
If anyone could shed some light onto why my PG86IMG.zip files aren't getting past the "parsing" phase that would be wonderful.

Yep just rename it. However, make SURE it's the right Hboot.
Other than that, just rename it to hboot.img and you should be golden.

When you mean the right one you mean GB or ICS right? You may find this funny but im getting the phone in about 1hr.
Whenever I get a new android phone I like to research all the procedures and possible issues and download all the needed files prior to getting it.

You should worry about S-OFF first before you actually worry about supercid. Also, if you do S-OFF and you choose to install the j-bear modified hboot, it installs the .2222 hboot so you really don't need to flash an hboot, because it does that already. But still, do check before you actually attempt supercid

If you were able to flash a different hboot, then its possible that the 1.58 file is corrupted or just a bad download. Try redownloading the file and try again.

Spooky Halloween voodoo.
In all seriousness, that is usually my first response also to unreadable hboot files since hiding extensions in Windows gives the double extension.
Although he said it so confidently that I'm leaning toward voodoo.

The PG86DIAG.zip file is an advanced diagnostic that is very tightly controlled by HTC, but the bootloader always looks for it anyway.
The filename for the zip doesn't matter when you use the fastboot flashing method. Can you paste the messages you are getting here starting with the "fastboot erase cache" command? Make sure you delete the PG86IMG.zip file from the root of the SD card before trying the fastboot method.

So you're saying I should extract the PG86IMG.zip from an older VM ruu? And then place in the root of my sdcard? That would give me the stock boot loader :-/. I already got s-off with jbear hboot 1.7
I'm trying to dual boot eventually so I want to be on hboot 1.5
Edit: one thing I haven't tried is leaving it named PG86IMG.zip and placing it on the SD card. But using 1.5 is that safe to try?. I'm thinking it will work because it is a sprint phone. It has sprint branding. It is just on VM. Let me know what you think

Follow the instructions in this post since you are S-OFF already. I recommend the JBear 1.50.5050 instead on the 1.50 hboot since that doesn't need to be unlocked to run extended fastboot commands.
