.21 screwed it all up..., ( sleep of death ? ) - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Had no problems what so ever with my software until i updated to .21, ( others had flickers, signal problems and stuff like that. ).
How ever the last update seem to have given my tablet the "sleep of death" issue, so it seems to be called atleast, after putting it into sleep it wont wake up unless i hold the power button and let it turn off and then power it back up, happen twice and i just recently updated to .21.

have you tried a soft reset to see if it might clear it?

A soft reset is needed just to get the thing working again... It happens again after that, so no, it doesn't really solve anything.

soft reset doesn't mean you have to reinstall everything again. that's a hard/factory reset. soft reset you just stick a paper clip in the little hole underneath the memory card slot.
I don't have that issue at all. I think 2-3 people reported it or from what I've seen so far.

ah, thought soft reset refered to factory reset and hard reset was equalent to nvflash, so just pressing the reset button is wourth a try...

Is this the problem where the screen goes black like usual and when you tap power it doesn't come back on no matter how many times you press power?
This started happening to me after the update, but all I had to do was tap the volume button and then the power button would start responding again.
Hope the fix is that simple for all of you.

It happened to me again and the volume trick didn't work this time. Holding power for about 10 seconds to restart still worked though. Are all Android tablets this unstable? As much as I love the whole idea of Android, the minor to serious kinks I regularly encounter with this thing are pretty aggravating.

It happended twice to me after the upgrade. Had to keep pushing power for like 10 seconds.

Before I had the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and had no problem. Like you said, is pretty aggravating, specially when my wife have an ipad 2 and always is talking about what smooth is her ipad.

Started happening to me as well. Never had any problems with prior updates now I've gone to shutdown 2 times since making an update. The method described above doesn't work for me.

its just a software issue introduced with the latest patch and sins it wasent there before the patch its hopefully removed within the next update.
*edit* - it have happen a couple of times now for me and i tried spaming the crap out of the buttons with no result so the only working method is to hold the power button to it goes off or the soft reset button...

I posted this in another thread, but thought I'd put it here also in case the other one is too far down. This is working for me.
I've been having this since the latest update as well. It happens whether it's on the charger or not. So far I haven't had it out of the dock long enough to know if being docked has anything to do with it, but I do know that removing it from the dock once it happens doesn't clear the issue. However, I did notice that if I go under Settings > ASUS Customized Setting > BATTERY SAVING and uncheck MobileDock Battery saving mode, it doesn't seem to happen. After I did that it didn't happen for about 36 hours, but as soon as I re-checked it to test, it happened the first time it went to sleep. Maybe a coincidence, but prior to that I couldn't make it more than a couple of hours without it happening. Might be worth a try as a work around if you're having this issue. After it happened to me again, I unchecked the setting above again and have had no SoD since.

This has happened to me 3 times now since the update and the only way to get any response on is by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Mine has always been docked and plugged into the charger when this happened.

yea, saw this in the other post and tried it to, havent worked for me tho, :/, im gonna undock the tablet this night and ill see if it happens again this morning without the dock, so far it have happpen every morning with and without the charger plugged in, and even while it was a sleep in my bag at work, ( while in the dock ).

I had this happen for the first time today.
I lost about an hour of productivity as it took me ages to work out I had to hold the power button for just over 10 seconds to get it to force a shutdown.
I'm guessing everyone here has a dock who is getting this issue.
Lastnight I enabled the network deep sleeep and dock sleep in asus custom settings.
Anyone using the same? and getting the issue.

I've had it happen to me a couple of times. This is very similar to what happened with my transformer, but very much less frequency. Basically when it goes on standby and locks the screen, and you move to a different location, it won't wake back up. You have to hold the button for 30 seconds to shut it down and power it back up. This isn't a major problem and will probably be fixed with future updates. I am worry about my other problems, GPS, sluggishness, and wifi signal is still really week. When it's good it's really fast, but when I'm in an area of my house (the toilet) weak ass signal!

cool thanks.
This is exactly what I came here looking for. Mine arrived this morning and worked fine all day and now it won't wake up... Since I've had it for less than 12 hours, I wasn't entirely happy, but at least I'm not the only one with the issue and I'm sure Asus will correct it... at least I hope so, lol
+1 on this issue.
while sleeping it shuts down. It can be turned back on by holding the power button, but at that point it has to start back up again, not just come out of sleep mode.
2 days ago, I woke up, this happened to tablet - it was off. I am on ICS mind you. It was not battery as when I restarted, it had 44%.
I was a little freaked out as I had to hold down the power button for longer than normal it seemed to get it to come on.
Very strange.
I had this happen for the first time yesterday. I used the reset hole with a paper clip. The reset hole is the one on the left side under the SD card slot, not the hole on the top near the camera.
my email to Gary Key:
Is the 9.4.2.13 update expected to fix the shutdown issue that is
separate from crash/restart issue?
I do not experience crashes but my unit will read as an empty battery
when it is sleeping and shutdown. When started back up the battery
level is fine.
His response:
It should also address this problem. We had two units returned with
this problem and the update cured both of the units. I cannot 100%
guarantee it at this point until we collect additional data but
hopefully it will work fine for you. Ensure you are on AC when the .13
update is started. After the completion of the update. Please shutdown
the unit and do a full power on cycle.
I am still having the sleep/shutdown issues after updating to 9.4.2.13.
GK requested I do a full system reset (dont know if its different from factory reset in the settings but they sent instructions that takes you to the cold boot menu with the wipe data icon and then you wipe data) and update the included apps.
if this doesnt work, will have to send it in.
I can still return as well, but everything else is working (including GPS) so I hate to return it. And as of now amazon is only refund anyway so Id have to find a replacement elsewhere.
Love the smell of napalm in the morning.
after the .14 update, I am still getting shutdowns.
I downloaded the update, then cold booted, then installed, then cold booted again.
anybody else still experiencing this??

Phone reboots several times a day......

Hey,
I have a problem and I really don't know what is causing this. My GS3 is restarting several times a day, it seems it happens especially when it is in my jeans pocket and I change my seating position or something like that, so maybe the on/off button gets pushed or maybe there is some pressure on the phone for a short moment, but all this shouldn't lead to a phone restart?? It also happens several times in a really short time, so sometimes it restarts, I just type in my pin, put it back into my pocket and after 15 seconds, it happens again...... What could be the reason? It happenend with the Stock Rom(bought it at Amazon) and also now after the update to 4.1(official), so that might be not the reason.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

Hard to say really, we'll have to go through a process of elimination. First thing to try is to backup you're phone using Ti or take a nandriod backup then factory reset the phone removing all personal data and app. Dont install any apps for a day or two and see how it is. If ok then put all you're apps back on and then see how it is. You may find that something broke when you put 4.1 on over the top of 4.0, happened to my sister or her Galaxy s2.
Is doing a full wipe too much trouble?
If not, I'd go down that route and then observe if any apps reinstalled make it misbehave.

rezound touching by itself

My issue has been happening for awhile but its gotten a lot worse lately.
My screen, when on, will randomly start "touching" places. When this happens, it appears as if a phantom finger is pressing various things and it is causing a lot of issues. Also when this happens, the 4 buttons on the bottom stop responding. i have to use the power switch to turn the screen off and then back on again.
any thoughts on how I might be able to fix this?

Are you rooted/flashed a rom? If you are you should definitely wipe everything a few times and flash a new rom. If you aren't I would perform a factory reset.

It has happened across multiple roms. I will try again though.
If nothing else works, try SGS Screen Booster. My Rez has been having the same problem recently, and it's seemed to help quite a bit.
The right below the status bar, there seems to be a gap with what is and what isn't working properly, so I set everything to the max and lowered the response time to be as quick as possible.

Happens to me also. Do you have a screen protector maybe? That is what I always thought my problem was.
Certain chargers or USB cords with grounding issues can cause these problems. Does it only happen when it's plugged in?
I had one were it would cause the same issue when plugged into the laptop, but only while the laptop was plugged into the wall.

Eh, mine does this as well. It's been happening more often in the colder weather I get into. So I just turn off the screen and let it sit in my pocket for a minute so the screen can warm up, and then it works. I swear, these Asurion replacements suck.
I'm having the same issues with my Rezound. I also have a lot of issues with the soft keys not working now ( Far more often than the random screen touch issue ). They won't respond at all or they will start randomly start clicking. I also notice that when they stop responding usually I can put the phone to sleep, then wake it back up right away and they will start working about 10-15 seconds later. Even when they are working I often have to hit them multiple times before it takes. This happened with the stock rom. It started happening shortly after I received the most recent OTA update, however I assume that is simply a coincidence and nothing to do with the update. I flashed the phone recently with CM10 hoping it was an issue with the ROM itself but the problem persists. This is a shame too because other than the screen issue it seems that CM10 would have given the phone a new life as it looks and runs so smooth on the hardware. I highly doubt I will ever buy an HTC again, we have had two of them and they both start having hardware issues much faster than they should for what they cost.
Im using the unofficial cm10.1 build with no mods. i went through and wiped everything twice. cache, system, boot, battery settings, rotation settings. i flashed the latest at the time (build from 4/3/13) and now my phone is working properly again. no more hanging up on people caue it preses by itself, no more emergency dialing.
hope that helps anyone who might have the same issue.

[Q] SGH-i777 Power button not responding at ALL

Hello
I just registered for this site. I watched the video explaining to me that I'm a noob, and appreciated it. It put me in my place.
I have a Samsung Galaxy s II (for at&t; SGH-i777)
It is about a year and a half old.
I have not rooted it, everything on it is as if it were out of the box. Nothing is changed from the default settings.
I have upgraded to 4.0.4 though.
About a couple days ago, the power button stopped responding completely. I took out the battery and reinserted it which caused the phone to restart but did nothing for my problem. I have called Samsung (they told me to send it in for repairs: costing $70) I would love to get it repaired without sending it in or parying that amount. I have seen options of getting it rooted, downloading an app to transfer the powere button function over to the Volume down button function, but I don't really know how to go about that.
Therefore, I ask you, O'people of XDAdevelopers, do I have any other options? I did search the site for a problem similar to mine, but everyone else has their phone rooted. I am also unfamiliar to any technical terms. I am a noob to the fullest. I don't know how to root the device or even what things would be neccessary to root it.
Any help would be much appreciated it. I am willing to do anything.

As far as rooting and finding software workarounds, you can easily find all of that info by searching and looking at the stickies.
From a hardware perspective, I would recommend taking apart the back shell of the phone, and try to see if the power button responds by pressing it without its plastic cover piece.
If you have any soldering ability you can replace the part yourself for under 10 dollars. Search eBay for it

Hey man thanks for the help. I didn't get a chance to try out your method. A couple days ago, I woke up and the problem was completely gone. The power button was fully-functional and my phone was working perfectly.
Unfortunately, today, my phone has started acting up again. It keeps restarting on its own. It shuts down while I'm using it and it restarts. Nothing seems different so I start using the phone again, and it happens again (it restarts). Its restarted today around 7 times. My power button is functional at the moment, but I remember this exact sequence of events leading up to my initial problem where the phone's power button stopped responding.

I have no such ability. I could follow instructions but I myself am not good with that type of stuff. Fortunately though, this wasn't necessary. Wait.. so even though the phone is working fine today, there's still the possibility that its going to completely fail? It stopped restarting on its own once I took the cover off. I had the Otterbox cover for SGH-i777 on it, but once I removed the cover, the phone has been working fine. Do you think there's a connection between the cover and the restarts? (I would post the link for the otterbox cover to show you, but I can't post links since I'm still a newcomer)

First off, have you checked to see if there’s another update? There were two 4.0.4 updates released for this phone. There was one back in January, I believe, that introduced the sleep of death problem, as well as causing a lot or seemingly random reboots. Some of the problems you describe definitely sound like these. They released another update around March that was supposed to fix these problems. That update is also 4.0.4, but should be UCLL6.
The power button issue is also a well known problem. When mine starts acting up, the first thing that happens is I’ll press the power button and the power menu will come up as if I’m holding the button down. Then a few seconds later, the phone will reboot and usually the power button doesn’t work after. It’s likely a design defect and will fail eventually, but there is a solution, if only temporary, that has worked for me and several others. If it starts happening again, pull your battery and press the power button repeatedly. Some people have gone so far as to press it several hundred times. I usually only press it a couple dozen times, but the problem does comes back for me eventually and I have to do it again. Interestingly, most of the people I've seen reporting this power button problem have had it start in the last couple months, around the year and a half mark. Not trying to say anything, but very awkward it started happening right as the Galaxy S4 was announced
I had this problem and tried all the workarounds but they didn't seem to work or was buggy. I ended up having to send it in to Samsung for them to fix it (luckily it was still under warranty). It ended up being a hardware issue so you may need to send it in to repair if you cannot fix it yourself with the methods in this post.
Those with power button issues, try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree
Works great, and the Dev has a thread for it on XDA.

I had almost the exact same problem with my Sprint Galaxy S II (Epic Touch). (Random reboots every couple of days, which got progrssively worse. Eventually, I noticed that just brushing the power button would cause the phone to reboot ~10sec later.) It ended up being a bad power button, and replacing it resolved the issue.
How handy are you with a soldering iron? If you're pretty good, you can buy the AT&T i777 S2 switch for about ten bucks and replace it yourself. (You can also try cleaning it for free - several tutorials here at XDA. The Samsung "Captivate" and "Epic 4G Touch" have similar switches and and the same problems. Search both forums.)
Several eBay sellers have the switch you'll need. (They don't provide the skills needed to solder it in place - but your AT&T phone will be easier than the I897 Captivate or D710 Epic Touch. Your switch is similar, but a larger size.)
UPDATE: Several eBay sellers now offer mail-in repair services! (If you don't have mad soldering skills, you can still get your phone fixed:

I've having that problem on mine it's still on Gingerbread. The power button seems to be clicking normally, it doesn't seem stuck. Yet anytime I stick my battery in it automatically cuts on and the screen seems to shut off without responding to the power button. I cannot reboot the device. I cannot turn the screen off/on without plugging it in or unplugging it from charger.

You could remove the power button entirely and rely on the Gravity Screen On/Off app I linked above. I have never tested it on GB but it should work, as It relies on the sensor. Removing the power button shouldn't be difficult at all, as you can access it by removing the battery and there are several tutorials on how to do that (i9100 tutorials will work just as good).
Perhaps some of these ideas will work for you?
My current phone has a failed power button. I didn't bother removing the power button, as it is unnecessary. I use Gravity Screen, and an app called Power Menu to replace the power button long press menu. I just pull the battery to turn the phone off, and for rebooting. Works acceptably well.
Of course the other option is to have the power button replaced, which is about $40 plus shipping, but this phone is so old it is hardly worth it.

Note 8 Volume Issue

On my note 8, the media volume randomly goes to maximum volume without me touching anything. My notification, ring tone, system and Bixby volumes aren't touched, but only the media volume. It started happening maybe a month and a half after I got the phone (mid-ish October). I brought it to t-mobile and dude said to hard reset it, so I did. The issue was fixed. Fast forward to yesterday and I notice my volume starting to go up again. Idk what's up with it, nor what to do.
Does anybody have any idea as to why it may be doing that? And has anyone else had that problem?

Oddly I've had this issue on my Note 4. Weird. Anyway, got a case? Maybe the case is pushing up on the volume button? Any apps that may cause it? Once it happens, does it happen again immediately?

Yeah I have the rugged Samsung kickstand case. I don't think that's the problem. Wow it literally happened as I was typing this after I took the case off.
I have no idea what apps could cause it. I read a post about an S7 having this issue with the clock app. Idk how that would work though. How could that cause it [volume] to act up?
It doesn't happen immediately after I turn the volume back down, but shortly after. Not a set amount of time, but maybe 3 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes; it really varies, but it always happens at some point after I turn the volume back down.

If you can muster using the phone in Safe mode for a bit and see if it happens again...that would be the only other way I can think of to try and pinpoint whats going on. (easiest way to get into safe mode is to ask Bixby). So, if it never happens to in Safe mode...then a Factory Reset? Not sure if that's what you meant when you mentioned a Hard Reset.
I found the doggone problem! Freaking Google voice! You have to turn it off. Problem solved! I believe it was my s3 that had a problem and it was l linked to Google voice...saying, "okay Google". I've been down with android since the HTC Evo. I'm into routing and have rooted every device...even my note 8. So...yeah...turn off Google voice and you'll be fine!
