GREAT NEWS! Just got an email from Motorola! - Motorola Droid X2

Hi gang!
If you have seen my BBB complaint thread, then you should know by now that I complained to Motorola by filing a complaint with BBB. So, I was waiting for them to reply. And today they did and boy are you in a surprise here!
Sit back, buckle up. We are going on a wild ride!
The email was well written and addressed the two key concerns I raised.
Firstly, they informed me that they have done intensive testing and have concluded that Droid X2 is going to get ICS, eventually. The update page on Motorola's blog should be updated with this info in the next few weeks. They were actually planning to scrap the whole thing, but recently they received a hoard of BBB complaints from X2 users that they thought it is worth giving it a second look. Now, granted they claimed that to help X2 run the ICS update, they had to trim some stuff and features not only from ICS but from their own "value pack" Blur. I am all in for that! They said that a few Blur features that previously existed and are on other phones will be removed. Still they said there is no need to worry as the whole Blur experience isn't compromised,
As far as ICS is concerned, they are planning to cut down some of its features, notably voice dictation. Also, it seems that ICS is using the device's resources better anyways as the email claimed that they found significant performance improvements.
Furthermore, with regard to Bootloader, the email claimed that they are looking into it but can't give a whole lot of promises. Apparently they are in negotiations with VZW and are pushing hard, given that many customers are complaining and are taking similar steps and stands as the competition, such as HTC, to help make VZW buckle. It is interesting to note that the email acknowledges that HTC has been successful at unlocking the Bootloaders and Moto is trying to take a similar approach as "their competitors" to persuade VZW. The email stated that if the negotiations are successful, which should be known in a month, then they will release the unlock tool in a few weeks. The email also claims that the unlock tool is currently in development and testing, which hints that Motorola is optimistic on VZW buckling on pressure, else why will they waste their money on developing a tool that they will never release?
Finally, they acknowledged that a good number of customers do regularly complain on their Facebook, twitter pages or otherwise file complaints to them regarding bootloaders and that they are completely aware of the situation. They wish to go public after the negotiations with VZW and if VZW agrees, spread the good news to everyone while apologizing the huge delay of doing something they said they were gonna do a long time back. If VZW doesn't agree, they wish to make public the details of the negotiations so that customers understand that Motorola is as helpless as them.
Note that I paraphrased and elaborated a lot of what Motorola said in the email to clarify for you guys. The email they sent was terse, not as elaborate as this, yet clearly conveyed all of this info.
So, there we have it folks. At least ICS is on the way and we now know that Motorola is negotiating with VZW and developing the unlock tools. The fact that they are developing the tools suggest that they are optimistic of the outcome of the negotiations! But you never know, and if it doesn't work out, may be Melvin can leak the tools!!!
So, that is a LOT to digest! Have fun with this news and go crazy! I think all those guys who submitted a BBB complaint deserve kudos to pushing Moto to do the right thing. And big kudos to iBolski for starting it and fueling the momentum and being the inspiration for others!!!
CHEERS!!!*
*NOTE: Did I forget to say that this is an April Fool's joke!?? Oops. Sorry! (I mean I am not sorry at all! ) Happy April Fool's Day!!!! God, I am gonna burn for this!
Anyway, while you guys are eating sour grapes after being bamboozled by my prank, enjoy my actual ongoing fight with Motorola here!
Also on the plus side, we may get ICS/CM9 goodness this week from Dragonzkiller! http://goo.gl/dhXnn

I will find you. I will sever your prostate from your organs and feed it to you.

I am very glad you liked it!
On the flip side, I just did this because the last few days have been reallllly slow and I wanted to do something fun. And I was actually surprised no one did this so far, given that we have experienced Melvin and all, I figured people will learn to prank more, especially on April 1.
Anyway, I am on your side. I filed a big complaint to Motorola that you can read here and I am waiting for Moto to reply.
So I am fighting the good fight! In the meantime, lets have some fun!

I read this and figured it was an April Fool's Day joke. But it would be nice if it did happen. We can only hope.

Hehehe! Still, you should fear Melvin and not me. Because I at least told you that I am full of crap. Melvin would've left the last line, the fineprint!

that's great, but yesterday I order the Rezound from ebay, so hopefully by saturday I'll be having ICS on my phone. But it is still great to hear that Motorola finally responded to her customers's requirements. I'm not sure how long this will take before we see ICS on the X2.

Haha you got me REALLY bad! Someone has to send this to ash! He'll **** himself and then hunt you down xD

Well at least I'm getting 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, and beats earphones (worth $170), 4G, and UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER. this is all what we need!

Good for you!

About half way through I was wondering why not just post the email??
...but I was liking what I was reading, and I believed, and as I believed I read more and my heart ached with joy that the pureness of our efforts had indeed penetrated the iron heart of the evil giant. My imagination sored to unthinkable heights filled with ice cream images and over clocked CPU's...
Then as I flew thus on such lovingly crafted wings, reality, or as Sherman put it so elegantly, It is all ether and moonshine, my wings where torn asunder as I was mashed across the jagged April joke....
Hey good one...yeah ya really got me good. Ooh did I ever mention what my 1st job was during my service days, other than being a qualified marksman... I got to learn a whole bunch about high explosives and guided missiles... Just saying...
And of course just kidding....lol

Regarding Guides 8/28

Unfortunately I'm moving away from the Photon, so will be discontinuing the guides. I'll poke my head in once and awhile and update any pertinent info. Time to pass on the torch...someone should begin another and request it stickied.
I enjoyed the MoPho...but one month after release it's way too quiet in here for me. I crave flashing goodness...and hear only crickets. I will be picking up the SGSII when it hits, and look forward to seeing some of you over there!
Thanks to Yay, Edgan, Kenneth, DCour, Baller, Mikey and others that have taken a stab at this great phone!
Good luck on your next phone. For me I am pretty pleased with how well this phone works stock. The two things I wanted in particular (root and webtop) were achieved amazingly quickly. While I look forward to a sexy fast custom rom with all the bells and whistles (and rock solid stability). I can wait for that, I am more then satisfied that the Photon has lived up to the hype. It's the first time a smart phone has done that for me.

Yeah today was last day of 30 days...so I cancelled the line, started a new one with a Nexus S on it, and will swap for the SGSII when it comes along (rumor is 9/9/2011).

You know that you are allowed to switch it out 3 times which resets your 30 days every time right? guess its too late now but yes you are allowed to do that. That's what I did. they just swap you out a new photon and reset your 30 days. lol I loved it. Does help to have a good guy at sprint to deal with also
But like I said bud, good luck and you are very welcome.
I may do the same thing. I have my girl and her mom on my account I may just give my girl the Photon and use her mom's upgrade on the SGSII. Will see how it goes first though. Really like the Photon, it has a **** ton of potential! Really too bad Motorola can't get their head out of their ass and realize that's what keeps a majority of us around.
Take care o/

This is rather disappointing. It's only quiet in here because the phone is still so young, bootloader was only recently unlocked. As soon as all the hardcore HTC fans start to realize this phone blows both Evo's out of the water, this place will be booming. Even if not, we have some very talented developers making feature rich stable roms. I was a flashaholic as well, but especially on phones such as the Evo well over half of the roms are just plain rubbish and aren't worth flashing. I'd hate to see that happen to the Photon and then deal with all of the people complaining that the phone doesn't work when they just loaded up half-functional software ripped from quality roms by a 12 year old.
Either way, hopefully you'll come back to this phone when we learn what major flaw the latest/greatest Samsung has. I gave up on them after all of their Android devices had major recurring defects, ones that I still see today in my tech centers. Moment/Intercept/Transform had way too little internal memory and the processor wore out quickly. Epic/Captivate/Vibrant all had borked GPS and suffered from random locking up/reboots. Nexus S 4G has terrible signal quality and terrible battery life. Replenish has been their worst yet, charging port shorts out causing it to say it's charging when it isn't and has gotten so hot that I've actually seen them brought in with melted LCD panels and it burnt the customer upon picking it up. I don't know how Samsung has avoided a lawsuit on that one. As for myself, I will not be picking up another Samsung device regardless of how amazing the specs look on paper. They can't seem to get their products fully functional.

I agree completely. I was just looking at the SGS2 reviews and whatnot for the last hour or so. I honestly think the photon already has beat it. I remember my first Samsung phone from ATT, I forget what it was even called actually. I'm sure I could look it up but it was like almost a smartphone. I mean it was, but there was no market or anything and it was just what it was.
I will be staying here unless there is just no action moving forward. But I don't see that happening because like you said this is a great phone and we have only begun to unlock the powers it has, I cannot wait to see numbers when we have a proper kernel source and a proper kernel made for us. Stock my phone has hit over 2500 in Quadrant and I know other people have gotten higher. In Linpack it is hitting higher than some of the highest numbers ever recorded for linpack. So I really can't wait to see what this thing has when it is fully unleashed! It still is just the beginning.

Just got a call from Motorola

I guess my final email to them must have struck a nerve or something. I just received a phone call from Motorola on my cell phone.
The individual was very courteous and nice, so that was a plus. Now for the information so take this anyway you want. I myself am a little skeptical, but at least I got more information from them than what we've gotten at all.
For ICS, they are currently testing the X2 for issues and bugs. The evaluation is not just talking it over on whether it's worthy of ICS or not, but they have developers working on compiling, debugging and testing to ensure they get the ICS upgrade to work along with their applications. Unless they run into major issues, there should be an ICS upgrade some day. Just not sure when.
Also, he ensured me they are not dropping support for the X2.
As for the unlocked bootloaders, they are currently in talks/negotiations with the carriers and this is what is taking so long. They are also investigating how to implement it so as to help protect the users from security issues, including data security (PI, etc).
The Motorola representative apologized for not getting back to me with this information sooner, but he wanted me to be assured that Motorola DOES take its customer's complaints/issues seriously. I did explain to him how ASUS and HTC have already unlocked their bootloaders, and he said he understands, but Motorola takes security very seriously, especially when it comes to its customers.
In many ways, I can understand where he's coming from. Now, whether this is a canned response or not, who's to say. As he was speaking to me, it did not sound like he was reading from a script.
I at least appreciate the phone call. That was much better than an email back so that I could actually converse with the person who was very polite and helpful.
Now, I guess the only thing we can do is wait and see what happens. He stated also that the ICS update page WILL be updated once they have made a decision on whether ICS will come to the X2 or not. Until then, it will stay the way it is, which could be months as they are still compiling, testing and debugging.
I did ask him if they were actually trying to compile it on the X2 and he said "yes", so unless he's feeding me a line of BS, then this is a good sign.
So, at this point, I'm going to sit back and see what happens. If by the middle of the year at the latest, nothing comes of this, then it might be time to start hounding them again, with tact of course.

i wonder if it's still too early to check the servers and see what can be dug up...
i've checked them every once in a while since the announcement of the X2 being in the "evaluation and planning" stage of the ICS update but haven't found anything. (i checked with 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 updates)
Thanks for the update that is very good to know! Maybe the first step to save customers.

Let's hope so, Motorola needs to step up before all of their customers leave them in the dust. If that happens Google'll be moving on to buy a new company cause Motorola couldn't hold out.
Great news. Though it is certainly no promise or guarantee, it's a first, and I do mean first, step in the right direction. Could you forward me the email if I messaged you my gmail? and I don't mean because of my normal skeptic self. I would like to show it to a couple friends I have who also own the.x2.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), it wasn't an email. It was a phone call, so I really don't have a transcript of what was told to me. Of course, you can be rest assured, I'm no Melvin, so you have no worries about being Melvined!

Devil's Advocate...
Very nice work bro! Being polite and yet slightly forceful will get you a very long way with large corporations. I did tech support for MSN, Kodak, and SONY and I can tell you that you WILL NOT get the best support if you are rude, forceful, abusive, and/or threatening. I understand that we can get frustrated with what we feel are broken promises. We are their customers and we do pay their salaries. But, at the same time, we must also understand that even though we feel we are many, and can really hurt them, we aren't and we cant. Their salaries will still be paid and their profit margins will be met. We can only politely demand that they answer our questions. Yes corporations break promises. Yes they screw the little guy over. Yes they make millions off us. But there are people behind those corporations. People the same as us. Bound by those same profit margins and salaries. WE MUST CONTINUE TO REACH OUT TO THEM AS PEOPLE! Not faceless money hungry machines. Enough with the hate. As hard as it is to stifle. I have been on the other side of the fence. I have been the tech and customer service rep getting cussed at for no reason and due to those experiences, I am now a MUCH more demanding consumer. The lesson I learned is this; kick, scream, cuss, *****, moan, and whine all you want, but it will get you no where in this life as a consumer. Ask for help, be polite, just like your mother taught you and you will get more out of people.
You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar goes the old adage... And its an OLD adage for a reason.
iBolski, I commend you in your efforts. Thank you for taking the high road and trying a different approach!
All I can say is, I was about to give up hope and just call it a lost cause. I'm still not holding my breath, but I'll wait and hold off on that HTC Rezound. As it is, my upgrade isn't active yet, so I'd have to pay full price which is around $600. No way.
I went ahead and responded back in my support ticket, thanking them for the phone call and how I appreciated it. But, I also let them know that we as a community still expect an answer one way or the other on both issues and to not string us along and keep us in the dark.
I think I'll have a beer, or two, or three tonight...

Lol my bad, not sure why I assumed it was an email. I agree, it it's a good thing they talked to you via the phone; shows that maybe they aren't afraid to face your frustration, whichis always a sign of good customer service, and if we're lucky, honesty.
No worries though, I wasn't doubting you, for I have no reason to. I've seen only good things from you

Thanks, but let's hold off on any kudos until we see if this even amounts to a hill of beans. I'm just trying to get an answer to what we all want: the status of ICS on the X2 and unlocked bootloaders.
At least now I can relax and just let it simmer for awhile and see what happens.

Ibolski - just wanted to add my thanks for all your efforts effectively on our behalf. Have you given any thought to perhaps setting up, say a twitter dx2/Moto specific account, that we in the community could follow which if the numbers are there could be powerful proof to motto that there really are a number of its customers that share your feelings on this matter. Sort of an extension of the unlock social media campaign. I for one would follow you if you set up such an account.
Again thanks for your efforts!!!

I am intrigued that they contacted you via phone.
I think they are taking the actions that Asus and HTC has been implementing seriously, especially because of the fact that HTC does have now unlockable phones on Verizon...
ICS Is probably more of an inevitability at this point, but the unlocked bootloader I am quite surprised at actually being discussed...

@ Forum member "TheShackSpecialits" this is just for you!. I stated with EOL Sprint will never let us get ICS. You stated we will because manufactures control OTA updates. I then gave you several reasons why they dont. This, my friend is for you!!
Not only did this article verify what I said, It also gave Motorola a grade of "D", the lowest of ANY cell manfacture for doing OTA Upgrades. This has to bring up the question, who s**t on who?

I'm confused about your logic on this and frankly it seems that your "I'll show you that we're screwed" attitude seems to make this irrelevant. But for the sake of anyone else reading this and getting utterly depressed that our amazing phone may not be getting ICS... well that's just incorrect. This page shows that ICS is currently in development (as opposed to "evaluation & planning") for the photon and is in the category of phones with at least 1GB of RAM, which I would like to consider promising.
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
Also the main complaint from the article you linked to was about delayed updating of the X2. I don't even know how much longer that's been out than the Photon b/c it's seems like a LONG time.
Anywho, stop being so d**n negative!
Plus we have awesome devs that have gotten us cm9 already, and stable much earlier than most phones so I guess I don't understand the severity of the problem if you're on this site.

So some guy named Brandon Russell regurgitates another writers article and you all are gung hoe? I have some land I would like to talk to you about
@ricky, read back S-L-O-W-L-Y. I have no issues with my Photon, none at all. I might jump for a new EVO, but thats beside the point. I have no problems with the Developers here, they do, and continue to do a great job. But, my Photon is GREAT.
If all of you take my first suggestion here, In my OP in the link about, my issues is with Sprint and the way they handled business! How do you put a EOL of a device thats not even a year old, but you continue to support the original EVO (although threated a few times to shelve it?) If it breaks in May, you do not get another Photon, you get a compatable device. yes, CM9 is great! if it breaks then, then what, you rooted it, so that's blown out the water.
The second link was to clarify 2 things. 1. if Sprint is going to EOL the Photon, they are not going to support it, PERIOD! (It they keep that promise). Therefore, the Q3 promise is, for the most part, dead. That user responded by telling me the motorola controls OTA upgrades. As that article stated, reguardless of carrier or device, these are controlled by the carrier, not the manfuacture.
Lastly, to comment on my last sentence in this original post, who s**t on who? Did Sprint crap on Motorola with not enough advertisement, support, ect. Or did Motorola crap on Sprint by making Development promises they could not keep and Sprint finally said "F" it?
Learn how to name your threads appropriately, please.
Moto said rollout starts in Q3 - Q3 has NOT started yet!
And I don't care at all "who did what to who". It's just a friggin' phone man!! I've got a dozen gathering dust in the bottom of my closet. Along with a dozen computers I've given to charities, friends and families over the years.
dsims7_2000 if you are that angry and bitter why dont you go to Verizon or ATT. I would like to see ICS on the photon to but no one ever geranteed that it would get it. If it does then thats great if not oh well we still have cm9.
Into y'all feelings much? .... Welp this is my last few posts for the photon as I have a epic touch too and going to be there for awhile.. Look guys I been here for awhile like back since the winmo days HTC cingular 8125 and tmo wing.. And since cm3 ppl been just needy complaining upset at things that shouldn't matter.. Look it's just a phone g1 users was messed over hero users and a few more.. Just appreciate the phone as is cause if GB was the last OS update these threads wouldn't be happening!

Dude! Calm the F&#K down!
Moto has it officially listed as rolling out in Q3. Sprint is EOL-ing certain devices early just to make sure that all WiMax hardware is cleared out before LTE comes in so there's no confusion.
If you wanted WiMax to stick around and grow, you should've rallied more people to Sprint. Instead, everyone wanted the iPhone or they thought they could "hear everybody now" on Verizon. Now they're stuck in contracts with Data caps and insane bills. Meanwhile, we still have comparatively nice bills and unlimited data but we're all stuck with having to switch over to LTE and endure a massive network overhaul. *Shrug*
Really, the most confusion seems to be understanding what EOL actually means. It doesn't mean your phone is done with updates or that if you call support they won't help you, it mostly just means they're done selling/swapping it.
I suggest the OP re-read his linked article. It's not Sprint/USCC that's doing a crappy job of rolling out ICS, it's Motorola, which completely contradicts his claim. The carriers are certainly involved with testing and giving the final approval for OTA updates (and EOL status has nothing to do with that), but the gruntwork behind updates is done by the manufacturers.
FTR, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that it takes Motorola this long to do updates. Their dev team and code infrastructure must be absolutely horrendous considering that a small group of amateur enthusiasts are able to produce mostly working ICS ROMs within a month or two of the release of ICS -- without manufacturer-provided driver updates.

I agree very well said
I have no worries about Motorola. As was stated before, Motorola said they are developing the update for the Photon and it should be out by Q3. I'm not worried about Sprint choosing to EOL the Photon. We are going to get ICS and I'd imagine that even if Sprint choose not to support ICS that Motorola would leak it to the community. You think all these SBFs were by accident?
OG epic still getting updates! I'll leave it at that

Sprints the reason you aren't getting it. It is Sprints phone, Motorola just made it for them. Like Foxconn makes iphones for Apple. If Sprint Eol the Photon and ends support also. There will be no official is. Im pretty sure Sprint can sue them if they released an oat update on Sprints network and their tailor made phone they paid to have made.

Operation #MotoBBB

Operation #MotoBBB:
I really don't know how useful making a new petition at Change.org is going to do, given that OP MOSH didn't lead us anywhere. But I feel that this + the BBB complaint rally may take us somewhere. Because, for each new BBB complaint, Motorola receives a brand new complaint, a brand new email to reply to and each email they ignore, the more their ratings and ranking and reputation will be affected at BBB.
So, here is the new petition @Change.org:
https://www.change.org/petitions/mo...s-unlock-the-bootloaders?share_id=ZhoxoqVsuz&
The aim of the petition is to get an apology from Motorola and Verizon, get all our Bootloaders unlocked AND get all the devices released within 18 months of the ICS release date to be updated to ICS.
The aim of the BBB complaint is to submit a personal, one on one complaint to Motorola. The way this works is that Motorola will get an email detailing the complaint and they should respond to it within a month, else it will count negatively on their ratings at BBB. An XDA member named iBolski already did this and he got a very detailed response. So this seems to be effective.
Secondly, I and several other users at the Droid X2 forums have also filed a complaint. Though we didn't get a response yet, I feel that Motorola is taking its time as it wants to respond correctly. So, I feel that this is adding pressure to them. Nevertheless, the fact that they MUST respond, otherwise face consequences definitely means that if a sizeable number of people complain, they will be under severe pressure.
So far 9,279 people signed the OP MOSH petition. I can't imagine how much pressure this will cause if each person who signed that petition also filed a BBB complaint. So many BBB complaints in such a short time would firstly be a record and secondly will be a huge pressure on Motorola who HAVE to respond to each and everyone of them, else face consequences.
Therefore, I URGE you to file a BBB complaint, even if you Don't sign the petition. But please do sign the petition once you file a complaint since that way I will know how many of you guys filed a BBB complaint!
Attached is a template letter for filing for the BBB complaint AND instructions on how to do so!
May we prevail! Please do submit this thread as a news tip! The more people know about this, the stronger we get! If you want to follow my ongoing struggle with Motorola, go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547632

PROTIP: The Better Business Bureau RARELY does ANYTHING about a company that pays their BBB dues. And you can bet your bippy that both Google and Motorola Mobility pay their BBB dues.
Who actually checks the rankings of the bbb!? They're just a self promoting business themselves, with no real power to pressure any business to make any changes. If you want to affect a business don't buy it's products.

Flooding BBB with frivolous complaints will make Motorola change a phone?

Farewell DX2 community! HTC Dinc2, Here I come!!! :D + Tips to score a new phone!

Statutory Warning : This post is SUPER long! May cause delusions, dehydration, rage towards Motorola and/or VZW or depression! For those who can't withstand this post, skip to the end for a one line summary.
So it has been over 8, dreadful and painful months with the DX2. And to dull this pain, I had you guys to follow and read up on. Great devs and their ROMs, Pepperm1nt, Nitro, the_guy_who_made_liberty (Oops, I dunno the name of the guy), Ryman222 for his Molten (which incidentally was my first ROM) and then comes mastafunk, aceoyame and the one and only Dragonzkiller!!! He was THE guy who let me have hope over the last few months (of course, with respect to my phone! If he was the sole reason I'd have hope in my life over the last few months then something is SERIOUSLY wrong with me... ).
There are many others like Moonshadow, TransX2, TravisdroidX2, iBolski (who was the inspiration for my BBB Moto attack), gaad0701, antp121 , Sandso9, ashclepdia(OMG! How did I forget you!) ad infinitum! All of you guys helped me have fun around in these forums and gave me numerous thanks as well. I am very grateful to you and will definitely miss you when I leave. So I'll still pop in every now and then so that I don't completely miss you guys!
Anyway, coming to the actual news! I got a Droid Incredible 2, currently being shipped by VZW with a back plate and a battery as well! Swell! Here is how this happened.
Over the last 1-2 weeks, I got very active in pursuing my Moto and VZW complaints. So, many phone calls, emails and chats have been exchanged. But in short, nothing significant emerged. Then I heard people complaining to VZW and getting a call from an engineer and being offered a Gnex!!! Naturally, I was jealous, but also inspired and motivated to attack VZW to score a new phone.
I got a call from VZW in response to my online complaint. I seized this opportunity to get in touch with a Tech support rep and elaborated and bemoaned about my phone's countless issues. She was sympathetic and TRIED to check if I could possibly get a different phone. Unfortunately I couldn't. BUT she said something that intrigued me! She said that I did not hit the threshold that would make me eligible to getting a different phone. I was told that I needed to order ONE more DX2 replacement device before I can get a different phone. You see, I only ordered one replacement so far. So I hatched a plan.
I ordered a second replacement DX2 (making it the third DX2 I had, the first being the one I purchased and the second and third being the replacements). I ordered it yesterday and I received it today.
Then, I didn't waste anytime tinkering and checking this phone. Instead I activated it and immediately called VZW claiming that this phone had all the issues my previous 2 phones had as well. They lied to you (Moto and VZW) so why not you lie as well! I told them I was not happy and that I was sure that getting another DX2 as a replacement will not help either as it seems to be an issue with all Droid X2's. I added that I was told if I had issues with this phone too, then they may be able to offer me a different model. She looked into it and said, YES, they can offer me a different model!!! Huzzah! Success, finally!
I went through the process and was told that I can have either the HTC Dinc2, the Motorola Droid 3 or the older Samsung Fascinate. Samsung fascinate!? Bleh! No thank you! Droid 3!!!??? Are you ****ing serious!!!??? It is like from one hell to another!!! Not only does it have a locked Bootloader, but it is not even confirmed to get ICS as of now! Plus, I will not go for Droid 3, purely on moral and ethical grounds. I will NOT be doing business with a company that plainly doesn't give a **** about its customers, like Motorola!
On the other hand, HTC has unlocked the Bootloader for the Dinc2 AND it has added Dinc2 to its ICS upgrade list!!! . Plus as per XDA forums, Dinc2 has LOADS of ICS ROMs. Now that is my sort of company!
So sign me up for a HTC Droid Incredible 2 I said to the customer care rep. And she did.
To others wanting to ditch this phone and get a new one like me, the following are some tips and tricks.
1. Complain to VZW. CALL Tech Support: 866-221-4096.Tell them all the faults of your phone you can think of. Refer to this list if you need help : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24528918&postcount=12
2. Tell them that you checked online forums and it appears that ALL DX2's have this problem. So, request them to give you a different device.
3. Now, if you had one or less replacements so far, you MAY not receive a different device. Still, try your best to push for it by stating the systematic issues with it and claiming that ALL DX2's have it. No harm in trying. If not, do what I did and order a replacement DX2 first. It won't cost you anything and you can order another replacement the very next day once you receive this one.
4. After you crossed the threshold of 2 or more replacements, repeat Step 1 and 2. Clearly mention that you have talked to a customer rep previously and that they told you that if you are still facing problems with the device, and if you have had significant replacements (the magic number is 2) then you can be considered/will be eligible to get a different device. Even though this may not have happened, the fact is true and I can confirm it. So, no harm in claiming that you were told as such. Repeat that you are sure and 100% positive that the problem won't be solved by a replacement DX2 and that you really want a different device.
5. After the VZW rep agrees, which I believe he/she will and should, go through your replacement options, choose the device you like best and proceed with ordering it as a replacement. Thank your lucky stars you reached this step. Go to your favorite church/temple/mosque/other spiritual place and pray/donate/do social or community service if you got REAL lucky and got a Gnex or may be even a Razr (though it is Craparola's Razr!!!)
6. Once your device arrives at home, close your eyes and return Craparola's DX2.
7. Profit! Sit back, relax and enjoy your new phone and the new found freedom it provides you!!!
The end!
Once again, I am glad I made SO many friends in this community. I am grateful for the entertainment, fun and thanks you guys gave me! I will pop in regularly and check up if Moto did anything right OR if you guys got CM9/ICS via DZK, some other dev or Moto!!!
May you survive this ****storm and hopefully emerge victorious by making Moto do what you want or be bailed out, like me, via VZW!
Cheers!!!
TL;DR? Well read this: Pained by Motorola and its DX2, I got bailed by VZW. Got myself a HTC Droid Incredible 2, yippee and Woohoo!
If Cspire had better lineup of phones then I would take the same route as I love to hack and fiddle with my devices. But I can't so I'm stuck with it. The phone itself is honestly the best I've had. I'm just disappointed that I can't toy around with it much.

Yea I'm waiting on my BBB complaint right now. Its been only a couple days but I'm holding out hope that I can get something better. As it is now, I love this phone but all the problems make me want another kind. I have a year left on the contract and don't know when early upgrade is but I don't plan on buying another device outright.

Good luck man your going to love that phone its so nice to escape the x2!
I was offered the Droid Incredible 2 as well, but sent it back. Rooting is complex, and S-Off? What is that? I read the sticky threads, and found out that you actually need to downgrade the phone to root it.
The phone is slow in comparison to the DX2, the stock launcher/homescreens are not customizable, no Bluetooth auto-answer, and I would not be able to tether it without paying another $30 for data that I am already grandfathered in for unlimited.
My phone was fine until I paired my Bluetooth headset, then all the issues started. I need a phone that can handle heavy Bluetooth usage and Bluetooth music listening.
I guess I will wait until August for my upgrade date.

Yea If I'm only offered that I think I'll tell them to try harder, a lot harder. As if I'm going to take a device that has a smaller screen and was less money then what I bought my phone for.
YAY!
after much *****ing and crying to VZW, the lady offered me an early upgrade. not much to be excited for bc my contract was up june 18 but this weekend... the rezound is 50$. ordered and on its way! i told her all my problems with the phone, she asked her supervisor if i could get a different replacement. after she said no, (never had a replacement before) i asked if i could get an early upgrade. she said she had to ask her supervisor and 15 mins later she said i could! i then asked of i could have a free rezound she said no but i decided to spring because, well, I HATE THIS PHONE !! should be here by Tuesday if all goes well AND... i have off this week so a LOT of time to tinker. 50 bucks for one of the best vzw phones NOT made by CRAPorola? sign me up anyday. i guess this is goodbye dx2 family thanks to all the great devs we have (DZK, Ace, Nitro) the modders (motcher, MoonShadow, skwoodwiva) the themers (hedwig ) and the all around good people in this forum (Ash, Litetaker, BreatheALittle) ill pop back in every once in a while just to see if moto shapes up Good Luck in all your endeavors and hope you all are able to move past this phone
PS: Breathe i hope you do get the Rezound, that way we can fight, i mean share our passion for hockey some more lol

Dude I had the EXACT same feeling when the person I bought my nexus from told me they put it on eBay with buy it now at 350(I am doing a split payment on it, so he put the nexus on for 350buy it now and extended bat for 100 that I pay for next week) and after he told me I refreshed the page and it wasn't showing up at first I was like seriously if someone got it in that 15seconds since he notified me it was ready I would have flipped lol
But for the whole two hours I was conversing with the guy my adrenaline was flowing for sure lmfao

The downgrade to root and s-off is a one time deal
Once u have s-off u root easily any build u want usually
That's how it was with my buddies incredible
It was actually a LOT easier than I expected it to be lol

I will be doing this on Tuesday when my replacement comes. I think I was too nice to them when I yelled at them on Thursday.
