[Q] ICS Build 7.1 and Swype - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, I have been using this ICS 7.1 and love it so far. The only thing I miss coming from res 2.2 is the swype for texting and what not.
So my question is can I put swype on ICS 7.1? If so, how would I just go about it? Do I just download the swype apk and install?
Also wondering what is the difference between ICS build 7.1 and AOKP build 29?

Swype: I was able to restore Swype from my previous Gingerbread rom using Titanium backup, but if you don't have that handy, you should be able to install it fresh from the Swype installer apk. Either way, don't forget to go into the phone settings and enable it after restoring/installing it.
I believe by "ICS build 7.1" you're referring to TeamHackSung's ICS? ICS stands for Ice Cream Sandwich, or build 4 of the Android operating system. That's been further modified into various releases like THS and AOKP.
I've used both of these, and they appear very similiar, except AOKP has more configuration options in the phone's settings. The latest AOKP build also fixes a bug in which all the phones have the same bluetooth MAC address, which prevented me from pairing both my Fascinates to our car until I switched mine to AOKP. Thus, I'd recommend AOKP over THS at the moment.

I'm using latest CM9 nightly and swype installed just fine for me, and works fine too.
Actually I used to have scattered problems before, but now all is fine. Install, set as input, good to go!

I believe the best option in your case would be to get the Swype beta. My glossary gives good enough instructions, I believe.

The beta is free, and it looks way more slick. It also has a more advanced word selection logic.
It should work just fine on all builds of ICS.

Best HTC Hero 2.1 vanilla ROM?

Hey
Can anybody recommend a stable and fast vanilla 2.1 ROM for the Hero?
I've tried Vanillain but found it to be quite laggy and FC'ing.
If not, can anybody suggest any 2.1 ROM I can use and just disable SenseUI?
Thanks
kie.
Im in search for this also. Currently using latest ahero but im not satisfied. Best vanilla rom I've tried is aychteesee but that's 1.5 it is fast as hell. Every 2.1 rom i tried is laggy as hell.

Exactly the same for me,,, I like Vanilla but agree, the 1.5 makes it not an option for me.... please can someone help us ??????
I'm sure we'll see some good vanilla 2.1 ROMs once HTC releases the 2.1 kernel source. Of course, that could take forever.
To be honest, the best "workaround" I have found is to use a 2.1 ROM and disable Sense UI.
I have been using Legendary recently using this method, the battery life is second best to any other ROM I have tried but it is very laggy and annoying to use. I find that AutoKiller shows a lot of processes running which can be stopped. This does speed the handset up alot, but say you close the People application, then open it again, it takes a while to show contacts.
I am literally going back to SenseHero 1.6 as we speak because 2.1 ROMs arn't great at the moment, and I will be disabling SenseUI, seems to use alot of resources and slows the phone down a bit.
For people who want to disable SenseUI...
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > SenseUI and click Clear Defaults. Press the Home button and then choose Home (you can also tick the box to use Home as the default Launcher)
BTW, I am quite new to android so any other advice would be cool, like what can actually be done with a rooted handset? I have failed to see any benefits yet (apart from an unlock)...

The best 2.1. IMO is Villain 3.4
As mentioned I've disabled sense and installed helix launcher.... I've tried all the roms, but 3.4 gives me the speed I need and most important, everything works.
The absolut very best rom is "SenseHero2.1" from "Stickman" (or try the 1.6 version, also still available)
its: FAST, STABLE, GOOD LOOKING, and WORKS!

I have to agree that this rom is very veruy good,.... only problem is the vanilla lockscreen
Every ROM on 2.1 i tried is very slow compared to the fastest 1.5 there is like aychteesee. And disabling sense is only changing the homescreen i like vanilla everywhere
Personally, I use Fresh 2.0d rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=643034
My advice is to update your recovery console to RA 1.6.2 (check version for your phone first at the site) .. found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124
Once you're RA is up to date, use the utiilities in the RA console to do a nandroid back up of your o/s, then wipe system and existing partition, repartition your sd card and convert ext2 to ext3. It will only take a minute to do all of that.. its really easy. Then flash Fresh rom and check his site for standard sprint apps if you want to install them. The rom has auto a2sd if you're interested in having your apps stored and run from your sd card. It didnt work on mine until I went into the recovery and manually flashed the as2d program using Darktremor A2sd 2.6:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670087
After that, it worked great (at least for me it did). Pretty much everything works on the rom with the exception of live wallpaper, you can add it but then the weather animations wont work so its one or the other based on what you prefer. They have a fix for the lock screen as well but it has 3 different options based on alarm preferences. Other than that, I found it to be fast, functional and fun. Definitely better than any other rom I've used so far and about the closest you'll get right now to anything resembling an official 2.1 rom. Just remember to make that nandroid backup of your o/s before you do anything in case you don't like the rom (which I doubt will happen).
Best of luck guys!
another vote for fresh 2.0d, ran so much faster than the sprint 1.5 i had even after i removed all the bloatware.

[UPDATED ROM RELEASE] Zinc V2.1.2 Fascinate Rom (A Deodexed Elements Series Release)

This rom is what I am calling a "zip rom" (non AOSP) Rom with some AOSP Apps. Once again this rom is not a built from source rom (AOSP), it was built from a ota.zip, (hence the phrase "ZIP ROM").*
Most TouchWiz applications have been removed, except the ones kept in order to keep the Rom stable. Apk files have been deodexed, optipng, zipaligned and some apps are built from source. Shutdown animation was changed and a few ringtones were added.
Apps removed:*
A lot!*
Apps were placed in /sdcard/extras/ folder:
Memo.apk
com.androidapps.spare_parts.apk
puzzle_lock.apk
TATLiveWallpapersOceanWave.apk
VoiceRecorder.apk
Thanks to all for the following below:
JT1134 for providing a solid base to work from (Clean D101 Base)
Gallery3d AOSP*
Adwlauncher - Anderweb
Launcher Pro Plus- Federico-http://www.launcherpro.com/

file manager-Cyanogen
Ported Blackmod theme BY: Stanrc http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/7735-mm-theme-blackmod-for-fascinate/*(for themed version)
And everyone else that made it possible.
This was my first "Zip Rom" since I am a fan of AOSP Roms, I do not have a huge amount of experience making a rom like this (zip rom). I have recently been working on my other Rom named "Cadmium" which is a Droid AOSP Rom. (Completed, but not publicly released yet)*

***Version 2.1.2 Change log***
Changed Rom naming convention so it fits the Android OS version. (preparing for Froyo)
Updated boot sound.
Added back default live wallpaper (ocean)
removed some /sdcard/extras
changed to the default mms.apk (for text messaging)
removed quadrant (get it from the market)
Added PowerAMP_1.0_build_68.apk to /sdcard/extras
Boot animation is loaded when using a custom kernel. (Recommend JT1134 or Birdman's latest kernels!) Go to kernel section to get them.
A few more optimizations with the apps apk structure. (deodexed, zipaligned, optipng and what not) saving a little more space..
yeah for flashing! Dl'ing now.
Excellent.. Downloading now
Something told me to do a nandroid backup before I went to sleep lol

Running a backup now, so I can play with this a little. Sounds interesting.
Awesome. Looks like it has the black notification bar too! Downloading now!
yeah, looks like smoked glass from the droid days. has the black with translucent notification pulldown. very sweet.

Smoked glass blue was my first ROM and theme ever, and a smoked glass blue theme was the last theme I ever put on my Droid.
got some more pictures?
Does this have the puzzle/glass unlock screens or the stock one?
It is just deodexed with some aosp apps and blackmod from the fascinate themes section. What is the custom shutdown anim?
is this compatible with the 1.2 boot animation voodoo kernal?
and sorry a noob question,
what exactly is a deoxed, zip rom? what is the main difference between that and a normal aosp rom?
Very slick. Awesome that you kept some of the apps as "extras".
It's nice and quick. Nothing not to like about that.
Thanks!
Uh oh. It tells me the Swype package installed is for a different device and I can't swype, only tap. Why the heck would Swype be removed in the first place?
Thanks for the nice rom. I had to revert back because removing the vicemail breaks the dialer. I always bump the voicemail button in the dialer (even though I use google voice) and with the voicemail app gone the dialer will crash killing the call.
I have tried to restore a deoxed version back in but never get it working. Outside of that it's a great rom. If you stuck voicemail back in or we could remap buttons to google voice like you can in windows mobile it would be perfect for me.

If you could get rid of launcher pro and twlauncher. I know people typically cry about it, but instead could you make different variations of your rom?

Thanks. Swype is the only keyboard I use so I freaked when that happened.
Any chance of getting a battery percentage added?
Yeah... Seems the voice-recorder (in the extras folder) isn't installing either.
Sits for a bit and states, "Application not installed.".
Can also confirm the swype issue.

[Q] Want to install ICS but first want to return to stock

Hi,
I currently have moboot 3.0.2 and xron 2.91 but wish to return to stock webos then install latest moboot or the touch based boot menu then install ICS
I have a few queries first...
How would I achieve this? WebOS Doctor?
Is there an app like Titanium for WebOS? So I can back up some webos based apps?
I would like to shrink the WebOS partition as it's hardly being used these days, Is this possible?
Which boot menu do you suggest? I have the splash screen error at present due to using the old moboot, I understand this issue is fixed in the latest version, Does the touchbased boot menu include this fix?
When running WebOS doctor which firmware of webos does it install? I have a few issue's with preware coming up with errors when opening at present.
Can I still install preware on the latest webos version?
What are the main issues when using ICS? Is the WiFi still flakey? Any other major bugs?
Thanks in advance
Ist there a reason to go back to stock webos?
I would propose to install moboot 3.0.5 and one of the ICS ROMs. That's it!

Have issues with preware, Lots of scripting errors upon start up.
Also would like to shrink the webOS partition to give more space for Android.
Do you have ICS on your TP? How does it compare to xron's gingerbread builds in terms of bugs?
Use ACMEuninstall to remove Android completely. Then use webos doctor to clean ur webos. Many guides for how to use those tools in dev section.
The bugs in ICS depends on whose ROM u r using. But definitely buggier then xron/cm7.

Which ICS ROM do you recommend? For the best user experience?
first rule of XDA, never compare any roms..they all are good for different purposes...right now all ICS roms are almost same...from the Team Xron version is not officially released..so dont expect any support there...your other option is CM9...which is officially released and u might answers for them in the forums....

Installing CM9 on fresh HP Touchpad???

What is the easiest way to install CM9 on a fresh HP Touchpad? I have searched and found tutorials, but they are mostly outdated and for CM7.
I played around a little with webOS and do not like it. I did a master secure erase to put it back to stock. I want to install CM9. Can someone lead me to an updated thread? Once I get CWM on there, I am good to go.
Been flashing my Behold 2, Vibrant, and Galaxy II for a while. Getting CWM on here seems like a chore...
Thanks.
You're first install still needs to be with acme installer, so go to the official cm9 thread and follow those directions. After the initial install you can use Clockwork

Thanks you two. I just got CM9 up and running. I read that there is a market issue and two zips were created to fix resolution problems and enable the market. What did you guys do?
I did not use either resolution zips. Its a preference thing....if u think he icons look like they were made for a senior citizen u might want to look into the 160 zip....I am satisfied with the stock resolution.....only weird thing is in portrait you get an extra row of app icons....again I just set the default to not auto rotate in display settings and wallah ....again tis a preference as is most of the android experience. Play around with things and if u feel so inclined to experiment one suggestion would be to backup your current from via clockwork mod recovery.

[Q] Pdroid on Omega rom

Heya,
I have been trying to get pdroid running on Indie's Omega rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656), but as yet have been unable to. Currently using Omega v11 but have been trying since v9.
The latest method I have been trying is by using the Auto-Patcher by mateorod and pastime (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719408). Every different type I have tried comes back with 'error: failed framework.patch'.
So, the main question is, has anyone gotten Pdroid running on Omega rom or a stock S3 deodexed, rooted, rom and if so what patcher/script etc did you use?
Uptil now I have been using LBE but from everything I have read I would be remiss not to use pdroid instead.
I know I could switch to Aokp, CM etc, however I really like Omega rom and would prefer sticking to it if I can.
As this is my first post I hope it is in the right place, if this is not the case I apologise and please feel free to delete or move it as is fitting.
Thankyou in advance!
EDIT: Really? No one has tried putting pdroid on an omega/sammy rom?? Or am I missing something (ie a better alternative, it's not possible, etc)

Hmmm, PDroid hasn't been updated for a while and it was having problems with the latest ROMs in my old (faithful) Galaxy Mini, so maybe when a Universal Patcher comes out as promised by the developer we may be lucky. That is probably my most missed app. BTW, there were other patchers that are meant to continue on pdroid's so I guess you can try them, I haven't myself because I know very little about developing or creating ROMs, etc. I'm barely able to flash after reading the instructions about 32 times.
Unfortunately from what i understood that great tool of autopatchrr is working only on cms aosp and aokp.
We have to hope period owner will throw out a specific version of it for ics jb ...
Thought this thread got buried without a reply. New version of the autopatcher is out, is looking closer to working on non aosp/aokp roms. (if not already?)
The alternative I have been using is LBE security, not the market one as that isn't JB supported.
The english translation of the latest versions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422479
Still buggy but overall works well.
LBE is a security problem

LBE is a closed source product. Devs are not responding. The app has complete root access.
=> BIG Security ISSUE
If you really go for security I would use this. Just answer for yourself:
Do you trust the manufacturer of LBE in a way that you open the complete phone for any access for them just to stop a couple of applications accessing your contacts? (just as an example ...)
Finally Noxious Ninja was able to run PDroid on Galaxy S3 with Stock ROM and TouchWiz!
But it's for the Verizon Version.
I hope with this the biggest obstacle is overcome. Maybe here is somebody able to make it analog for the International Version (I9300) and Omega Rom?

Awesome news, nicely spotted. Hopefully it wouldn't take too much to do it for the international. If I knew enough I would give it a go myself.
Been a long time coming.
Ninja didnt share the most important thing. How he managed to run the patcher on that ROM.
Maybe it would be already possible to create the patch.., we need to know how he achieve this. I was already writing in there
