How do I back up wifi passwords? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got about 6 different wifi networks saved on my phone and would like to save them and the passwords so I dont have yo re-enter them each time I change roms.
Whats the best way to do this.

Go to settings, privacy and select back up my data. Your passwords will automatically be restored once you sync your phone with your Google account.

That box was already ticked although I've always had to manually re-enter all my paswords in the past.

Yes I'm rooted. In titanium backup I've backed up
Wi-Fi 1.0
Wi-Fi Access Points
Wi-Fi Sharing 1.0
Wi-Fi Sharing Manager 1.0
Should this do it. I only have the free version of the app.

only "Wifi access points" is required...if you have backed up from GB rom and restoring on a same version of GB then others will not make any harm..otherwise better dont any otherr system data..

Wi-Fi Unable To Start

Just upgraded to 2.1 Nordic (X10a), and everything works fine, excepts Wi-Fi doesn't work.
It worked when I first started the phone, then I think I did a restore with Titanium backup, then it stopped working. I did a master reset, Wi-Fi worked, then I restored everything one more time, and it stopped working.
Anyone know what's wrong/how to fix it?
3G and all other apps work fine BTW.

I'm getting the same thing with WiFi saying "Unable to start". I had installed Titanium, but hadn't restored anything relating to WiFi (have been restoring apps individually).
I can't use static IP,the WLAN settings just display "Unsuccessful" with 2.1.
If you're using WEP, try punching in the WEP in Hex instead of ASCII. Before this, I had problems obtaining an IP address from my router's dhcp server for unknown reasons.
Hope this helps. =)

It doesn't work, like even trying to enable Wi-Fi fails...
Just did a reset, I'll avoid restoring with Titanium, let's see if that works.
Maybe an 'adb logcat' might shed some light on the root of the problem when trying to enable your wifi.

yea i did the same thing and it still kept happening.
I haven't tried reset, but yeah it happens as soon as you turn WiFi on.
I had this issue earlier, it was fixed with a reflash for me. You can try it as a last resort (or sooner, before you add too much stuff to the phone)
same problem here!, any body have the solution??

is it works??
I had the same issue (wifi failed to start) I thought it was due to the rooting process as I could get it to start with a clean flash of 2.1
I had to reflash 2.1, then root.
I presume the issue is due to restoring some 1.6 settings, as I used Titanium again and it did exactly the same.
So, reflash again, wifi works... root, wifi works... titanium to restore apps only, wifi works.
I just changed the setting manually. A little bit of a pain, but now I get Wifi OK.
Wish I knew an easier way, but thats how I got around it
I just re-flashed then re-rooted. Tested WiFi after the flash, and then after the root, and finally after installing Titanium and restoring my apps (only the apps... no system settings). In all three cases when I initially turned WiFi on after a reboot, I would get the "Unable to scan" error, but now WiFi remains on instead of shutting itself back off.
I don't have any WiFi networks available here at work to test, but I'll see if things are working when I get home.

you dont have to re flash the phone. you could have gone into settings > privacy > factory reset. that way you keep root and it wipes everything on the phone.
i did notice that after using titanium i also had a problem with my market. whenever i downloaded an app it would just say that the download is about to start but would never download. so i did a factory reset and and used the stock restore that came on the phone to get my settings and messages and stuff back.
still havent used titanium to restore anything.
last time i used titanium i did restore apps with data and it messed up my phone so this time i will restore MISSING apps with data without the system data and see what happens.
report back soon
Mine works fine now...but that stupid popup everytime you plug it into your computer is really annoying, and if you close it, it's too hard to find after.
Anyone know if that can be disabled/changed?

is it means that using Titanium BackUp isn't permited??,
any other solution to restore our backup (apps with system data)??,
Just wanted to post confirmation that I tried my WiFi once I got home, and everything is working as expected. So the re-flash seems to have fixed things.
Same thing happened to me, I batch restored with titanium..wifi stopped working. I reflashed the FW and the problem went away..I have restored some apps individually (not batch)..and it's still working fine.

You can use titanium to restore. You just have to be careful what batch to use I used restore all apps with data and it messed everything up and had to do a hard reset.
I tried to using restore missing apps with data and was able to get my old apps and keep all settings and info for the apps. And everything works fine. Market and wifi
Like it restored my game saves and notes that I had in color notes
The only thing is I had to manually adjust phone settings

thanks for your advice bro!, IT'S WORKS!!!,
market and wifi works fine!, everything is fine!,
I had the same problems with my WLAN and titanium backup. After some search I found the solution. You need to be root, that it work.
only go to data/misc/wifi and delete wpa_supplicant.conf
and now your WLAN works without problems
For the bug with the market I'm searching a solution too..

Accounts - backup all your created accounts
Bluetooth Pairings - backup all settings with connected phones
[CONTACTS/CALLS] - backup all contacts and calling list
[VOICEMAIL] - backup all your voice messages
[WALLPAPER/SETTINGS] - backup your HS wallpaper
[SETTINGS/BLUETOOTH] - backup your bt configuration
Thank you I thought voice mail was stored server side.
What do you mean by created account what are they specifically?
I also forgot to ask about one does anyone know what "applications widgets" would be?
Also is there an option to store all your android settings?

[SOLVED]GO SMS Pro getting greedy and crappy

In old versions of GO SMS Pro we could backup sms on SD card. But the later version is insisting on backing up messages to cloud storage service,it's so annoying.
Moreover,I have a backup file in .xml format which I created using GO SMS v4.53 but now i can't restore my messages coz local backup and restore is not supporetd in latest version.
So i uninstalled the app and installed the older version 4.53 but when i click on "SMS B&R" button it redirects me to same "Cloud backup & restore" page.I have also tried v.51 and v.50,when i install them UI gets changed but in every version "SMS B&R" button leads me to same "Cloud backup & restore" page.
I want to revert to an older version to get local backup and restore function enabled so i can restore my msgs from .xml file.
Any idea ?Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

>Mount your SD card and delete every folder which is linked to "GO". e.g "GOSMS","GoStore" etc.
>Reboot your phone.
>Copy stored GOSMS folder from pc to SD card(If you have a backup of your memory card in your pc and you want to restore the messages)
>Install the preferred version of GO SMS Pro from here.(v4.50 is the last version with local backup/restore support)
>Reboot your phone.
>You should have GO SMS Pro v4.50 installed.
Don't forget to change "play store" settings to "update manually" else it will get updated to the latest version.
You can use Droidwall to restrict GO SMS Pro or some other applications to access internet.
Hope this helps.

ofcourse I dont have the local backup I cant install 4.50, I still have 4.65, is it necessary to first before install to remove the SD card? I installed with the SD card mount but with the Go sms, removed...
It was really simple hehe, I was not installing the 4.50 cuz... the link of the website that said that it was the "4.50" was really the 4.65 (in case the update think it will change to the lastest version, SOLVED

I suppose you are looking for some alternatives to replace GO SMS Pro.
Handcent SMS and chompSMS are great alternatives.
go sms version 4.66
kill wireless, kill data traffic so the phone is offline
go to restore sms
it will try to connect to cloud and fail
it will inform you there is no connection and "you can try to restore from local if you have a local backup"
restore sms from local backup.
same procedure for local backup and local restore
and yes.. they could have simply explained it somewhere
I want to autobackup daily so it will be hard to do that i think but it is nice idea.
I cannot express enough how much you should check out the app SMS Backup+. I'm not affiliated with it in any way, I just came across it when I was annoyed by GoSMS Pro's sudden requirement of creating an account with them and providing my details. I'm glad they did though, because this app is so much better, much easier and more organized.
It syncs with your Gmail and adds separate labels to store all of your texts for future reference including the date, sender, recipient, number and message. You can even sync your call log to it and it shows duration, etc. plus you can also sync that with Google Calender and it inserts every call into your back calender for future reference. Does it all automatically as soon as texts or calls occur. Fantastic app, and it's free.

Thats OK if you created the cloud account, if not then it does not go past that point, so you do not get the option for the local restore
so what stops you from creating a cloud acc., uploading an empty/fake sms list, and then simply ignoring it the way i described?

which app to backup the APN / WIFI / accounts

Hi,
I'm using titanium backup each time I restore or flash with a new ROM but I have not find an easy way to restore only the :
APN preferences (Internet access / MMS)
Saved Wireless network
Different accounts
For the accounts & wireless I've found them in titanium backup, but unfortunately not for the APN settings (and I have to enter them manuallly each time...)
I've seen that google keeps a backup of our phone... hmmm... are all these settings stored? if yes how to restore them?
Install APN Backup and Restore Then convert it to a system app in TB. More details on the play store.

[Q] How does Google's "Backup My Data" in Settings works?

When I had my iPhone, I can do iTunes backup to my Mac and when I have a new iPhone, I can do restore of the apps and data from the previous iPhone. It restore everything, including apps, the apps data, email configuration, etc.
For Android, there is "Backup My Data" under Settings --> Accounts. Does this do the same thing as the above?
For example, I tried to do this:
1). Check "Backup My Data"
2). Associate this with one of my Gmail account
3). Get a new Android phone and... I don't see "Restore" in the same Settings.
I DO see the settings to Backup My Data in the new Android phone, but I am afraid if I checked this, it will overwrite the data in Google's server
I am trying to figure out if Backup My Data can re-download all the apps installed in the older device, including the apps data. I don't care about email or contacts, since those are synced to my Gmail accounts.

Backup and restore works by backing up which apps you've installed, contacts, etc and, when you get a new phone, it will restore these items back. During a new phone booting on, fresh ROM, the setup allows the user to restore from Google account that you backed up to it. IT happens also when you flash new ROMs as well during setup. The backup function allows, before getting a new phone to backup and then restore in new phone during setup. The apps however will need to be reset to custom settings because the phone will redownload them from play store yet will not have any of the settings you previously did.

Ah, that's key. That means I have to redo ALL the settings in each app again. I was hoping Google backup will restore individual app settings AND data, as described in my 1st post. In Settings --> Accounts --> Google account, I have the "Sync App Data" checked, but I guess it's not doing anything to backup app settings and data.
OK, I guess I have to use Titanium Backup or Helium instead. With Helium, once I installed an app (whether it's Playstore or Amazon's Appstore), I can restore the data and it works exactly as it was in the old device.

Yes, a custom backup (ie Titanium or Helium) backup your data from the apps. Google just contacts, etc for minimal restore from one device to next. One of those or related should work because they make an extractable file you can drag/drop from one phone to the next and be able to restore very well. Helium may be the better way to go. Ran into problems recently with Titanium since 4.4 but may be fixed by now.
does anyone else have the problem when installing a new ROM that Google doesn't restore the apps? I have had this problem nearly every time I have installed a new ROM, and eventually have to end up restoring (which is a total PITA.) I often wonder if I am missing something, as this drives me completely nucking futs.
