Me and my friend just downloaded Raging thunder 2 I have the eris and he has the motorola droid. Well let me tell you his rendering on the droid stock rom is running perfect no stuttering and on my device which is the rooted leaked 2.1 its sucks not even possibly playable. It is a great game but not on my phone. Does anyone know of anything we can do or is there something i am missing to make my 3d rendering a little better. There arent any options on the game to lower quality etc. Thanks
Tips?
I would suggest using advanced task killer before running your game, this way any applications sucking up your RAM, will no longer, for a bit.
Also the Moto DROID has a [slightly] faster processor, not much we can do about that one...
Also, are you still on SENSE UI? [I'm running NexusOne Launcher and totally removed SENSE from my Rom, and BAM, increased response from my phone..]
Advanced task killer was and always will be the first app i Install. I am still running sensui I closed it and went to the regular home to see if it made the game faster and it had a negligible effect.
Well...
I am downloading the apk from the app market right now and I will run it in a bit and let you know if my set-up runs faster...
Thanks please let me know how you make out
Soo.. I'm back
annnd I got the thing to run with considerably less lag... still not 100% smooth
I did the following things...
1) My ROM is trimmed down quite a bit, I deleted HTC SENSE UI, didn't like it too much, I deleted amazonMP3, and a bunch of system apps I never use and that keep showing up on task killer
2) I made sure to temp change my live background to a non live background, for obvious reasons [ram, processor]
3)went to task killer, killed apps running
4) opened SetCPU [downloaded from app market, free] and set to 528MAX, and 480MIN <-- I found this setting doesnt make my battery run hot
5) opened Raging thunder and it loaded pretty fast
Now until we can get the kernels for 2.1 and modify the CPU clock speed, aka overclocking we can do too much but minimize unnecessary RAM and CPU usage.
I hope this helps..

Please look into how android does memory management, task killers are a BAD idea. Dalvik/android will kill background apps as needed.
Android22 try using ivan's 0.7 rom.

Hello there everybody!
I'm looking to customize my Galaxy 5 a bit, just looking for some help on how to do a few things, just general stuff really, so here it goes;
I want to over-clock my phone, what CPU settings would you recommend? I want it as stable and fast as possible so what governor, minimum and maximum frequency would you guys recommend I use?
What is the best alternative home launcher? In your opinions and why do you think that? I like ADW but the App Drawer seems laggy when compared to the likes of Launcher Pro, but LauncherPro lacks customization options such as renaming applications your homescreen and changing the icons.
Where can I find a nice, high resolution, good quality wallpaper for my phone? Most wallpapers I find look rubbish on my phone.
What's the best alternative lockscreen application? I have played around with LockBot and Widgetlocker, just wondering what you guys think.
What Cyanogenmod Themes would you recommend, or where can I find some? On the CM7 G5 Theme thread there is only like 5 or 6 themes which I think are available for our phone, which sucks.
And if you have any other general tips/advice on how to make my G5 look clean and minimalistic then please let me know.
Thank you,
Curtis.
i'm currently using a min of 122 mhz and a maximum of 729 and it seems to be quite stable, i wouldn't recommend anything above that

For overclocking, i'd recommend 710 max and 245 min on the 'performance' governor.
I still use the default ADW launcher that came w/CM7.1. it's all quite smooth except for the app drawer as u mentioned. i came up w/ a good solution to that - i keep all my most used apps on my home (i use all seven screens - the max).
For live wallpaper and theme, i use Ice Cream Sandwich(android 4.0) ports.
Currently, i have the MDPI ICS CM7 theme, which is the smoothest I've seen yet, and the ICS live wallpaper. they all go together.
Lockscreen - i tried WidgetLocker n magiclocker (didn't yet try lockbot). Even though magiclocker provides awesome features, it is not yet compatible with our G5's. Both lagged while compared to stock. as of now, i use stock slider with gestures, and it looks great.
I recommend that you use most of the stock CM7.1 lockscreen, launcher, etc. for optimum speed.
PS: if you try all the above out, and actually decide to keep them, take a word of advice- change all gesture trails and notification power widget colors to blue. Looks great.
Feel free to PM me if u need the .apk's for anything, I still have 'em all.
Thanks for the very nice reply! I'll get round to it whenever I can be bothered to turn my G5 on:3
i'd recommend min 245 and max 680 or 710 and if u want max performance use the performance governor xD but it has a high battery drain, i use smartassv2 and it's smooth too.
For the lockscreen i think that widgetlocker is the best app, i don't know other app completed like it
performance governor just runs the cpu at whatever the highest speed is it's no different from having both speeds set at 710
CM7 Best ROM till date
1. To increase performance use Ext Partition , it will help free up memory and boost performance.
2. Launcher ( I am using Go Launcher pretty Neat and clean and peppy fast)
3. Galaxy 5 support Live wallpapers , You will get Go Wallpapers with Go Launcher which are pretty good.
4. Optimum CPU Frequency as per my uses Min 245 and Max 604 getting pretty awsome quardent scores (1529)
So, I have narrowed down my own lag issues to being caused by the samsung widgets. I been really annoyed with this phone and the redraws/home screen lag. Now, I have wiped, and _never_ added a samsung widget to the TW launcher, and my device is running very smoothly, with 3 home pages populated.
I came to this conclusion when I tried ADW. ADW was running well, slightly sluttery, until I added the samsung power widget. ADW was completely crippled, which makes me beleive drawing that widget takes a lot of processing. I then tried the myagenda widget with the same results. So, now, as a rule for myself, I am not running any widget that came stock on the phone.
i dont have the lag ither but i use a diff homescreen widget.
I have used launcher pro for my phones before but stayed with touch wiz on this one. I removed the stock clock and weather Alps and installed beautiful wigets and the screens are a bit snappier.

not sure i'm comfortable removing all these yet since Clockworkmod is still beta and having issues (means no nandroid backup).
I also run ADW - You should definitely run the V6 Supercharger script version 9.3.6 on setting 9 ( ends with 250,300) and i saw a big difference... also using setCPU performance setting gives me great results. still about a 10% lag i notice.... i've been bugging the devs of golauncher to optimize galaxy note and they been working with me so don't worry.... we will have our cake and eat it too, very soon!

I should have been more specific. You don't need to remove them from the phone, just remove them from your home screen.
I'm on newts 1x,,iv always used v6,,used notice a huge performance uptick on my droid1 but no diff on the rezound,,all my benchmarks are the same,,,also what's up with Rom toolbox pro,,I use it to freeze apps, and the overclock,,,but in restart those apps still run...
IS it similar for you?

My experience is that the V6 Supercharger script has been totally useless on newer devices with adequate RAM. It helped a bit on my Eris, but on my Rezound and my tf101, it essentially didn't do a damn thing.
Don't use Rom Toolbox so I can't help you there.
V6 helps in that I have no launcher redraws. Otherwise, little effect.

I have tried this on both my Razr ICS and my gf's Galaxy Note ICS and it works.
On both phones, they are pretty fast until you start to install stuff.
After applying these, the phone is much smoother even with around 200 user apps.
1) Use Autokiller memory optimisation, root needed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autokiller&hl=en
This is a common method which android veterans already know, which is to change android's internal autokill values. This is not the same as task killers!
On both phones, I use "aggressive" preset.
For other tweaks like V8 supercharger, it's recommended values are closed to autokiller's "Extreme".
I added more tweaks to the post.
2) Turn on Force GPU rendering under developers mode. Most games and apps seem to work fine with it on.
3) Turn on background process limit to 4: I thought this is interesting (from JerseyFF) so I tried it out, seem good for daily use.
(update: after a while setting for this will revert to standard, there's no way to fix this yet)
4) Use Nova launcher. (root required for Motorola widgets)
The default launcher is smooth but it likes to reload every now and then (even with default autokill values). Tried Apex launcher but it's not as smooth as default launcher. Nova launcher is close to the default launcher which allow more tweaks and and yet it is buttery smooth. Do not update to beta though. I tried it and it's a lagfest.

VM heap size app no longer works after ICS update. If anyone knows how to fix that, please share.
Feel free to add any more tweaks or tips to make RAZR ICS better.
Is this at all somehow related to the Background Process Limit that is able to be set under Developer Options with ICS now?
It has a Standard Limit setting, No background processes, and At most 1 (through 4) processes for options.
Does anyone know what the value for Standard is?
In background process limit, it limits a number of background apps running, while the autokill values limit the number of bg apps running based on the amount of memory left, and killing off lower priority processes first.
The default values for background process limit is therefore "varies".

This is my favorite launcher. Smooth... I am using it since I got the RAZR.

Wow the auto killer is quite the find! Sped up my phone allot. Still running quite hot though
Thanks!
Thanks for the info, I'll confirm that upon bootup after applying the Aggressive setting, I tried scrolling around the Motoblur homescreen and thought it was smoother. But then the Superuser allowance for Autokiller kicked in right in the middle of me scrolling around and I noticed quite a difference in scrolling speed, it just suddenly got faster and smoother and the framerate looked as if it had increased by about 5 FPS. I also did tweaks #2 and 3 as well, but I think Autokiller makes the biggest difference. A good find for sure!

Use setcpu and create profiles to set cpu speed lower when screen off and when battery is overheating. There's a free, older ver on xda.
Also you can use juicedefender to make your 3g connection turn off when screen is off. This should also help keep your phone temp down when you're not using it. Note that it will turn itself on every few min to receive whatsapp, mms and emails etc. (not for whatsapp hoes)
Hi, thanks for your tips. I don't know what lag experience you experiment but I hope this works for my RAZR lags. What is happen to my RAZR is that when I enter to apps drawer, non of the icosns appear and instead the "loading circle" takes place until the apps appears. Also when I exit any app and go to home, none of the icons of widget appears, they take half second to reapper.

That's called redraw. Try using apex and there is an option for keeping the launcher in memory so it loads faster

When I first installed Nova launcher, it asks for root access when going into widgets.
Try going to Nova settings ->Drawer-> Check Widgets in drawer (requires root permissions for system app)
Moto widgets like fav. contacts doesn't work well because I can't "pull down"... but it's there, including Motocast widget.
You may want to manually grant Nova launcher root access.

This is why I'm using Nova launcher instead. There's a free version, do try it. It may still take a while to load the app drawer icons after playing a game, but the 'redraw' for Nova's desktop pages are pretty fast. I also liked how it switched to a tablet version when I'm using Webtop mode.
Do try Apex as well. I didn't like it as it felt laggy when I'm scrolling my desktop pages few months back. It may have improved now and many users are complimenting it. As for myself, I have already bought Nova Prime and I'm sticking to it.
