[Q] Data Speeds on new ICS Roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I've been struggling with much lower data download speeds on all the new ICS Rom's. The screenshot shows the average speeds I'm getting now(first result) and the others are all from previous GB Roms. I've flashed several different modems and tried all the APN's included with the ROMs. Has anyone else been experiencing drops like this and any recommendations on a fix? Thanks
SHOstock2 1.1

You should probably do a search next time
But anyways, here is a link with correct APN settings that helped me (I'm on the same ROM as you):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576199
Hope it helps!

Thanks for the link- I'll give this a shot.

Agree with the guy above. I'm getting 7 mbs download and 2 mbs upload thanks to new apn

Unfortunately, I'm not getting any improvement with these settings. Which modem are you guys using?

I use the J4 modem. Have you tried looking at the i777 modem map?

Go to the modem map link in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361393
Locate which rom worked best in your area (or somewhere near your area).

I appreciate the responses and have tried countless times to get the speeds back up. The good news is my download speeds are finally back where they were at(if not better)- around 3 mbps here where there's no 4G coverage. Strangely, what finally worked was setting the default to ATT 3G SIM2 preset APN after reflashing the SHOstock2 1.1 update. I had tried this APN before reflashing with no results, so who knows- I'm just glad to have these speeds back.

[Q] Terrible Data Speeds on AOKP/CM9

Hello all I hope this question hasn't already been answered but I searched and cannot find anything about it. It seems I'm the only one with this issue but whenever I run AOKP or CM9 on my at&t SGSII I get horrendous data speeds, under 1mb/s (512kb/s) which is unusual as I score atleast 3-5mb/s down on average. I have tried almost every modem out there and the same thing is happening, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Oh I've tried different kernals as well as the latest updates of AOKP and CM9 nightlies but nothing. Greatly appreciated
this seemed to help me some...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24602879&postcount=2165
scroll down to the bottom and adjust the APN settings
Thank you so much, I will try that right away hopefully it fix's my problem because I really prefer AOKP and CM9 over a lot of these other roms.
UPDATE: That thread definitely fixed the problem, thank you so much sir.
Now that you are using the apn settings I posted, can you do me a favor and attempt to send out an mms message?

[Q] ICS ROM T-Mobile Radio.

I seem to have an issue, seems like when i flash a new ics rom and a modem for ics on the note for tmobile i get a cirlcle with a strike where reception would be. I get no reception, not even edge. Ive tried all three modems/radios that they have for ics. And all give me the same issue. Also under about phone it gives me baseband unknown. And in status it gives me network unknown with several others in that same category. ROM i am currently on is Saurom and my modem for tmobile works fine on this ROM. Can someone please help. I sold my sensation which was running ICS perfectly fine on it. I dont like GB anymore. This feels like a downgrade instead of an upgrade. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: The new Blaze radio that was updated 05/28 fixed this issue. Thanks for the help!
Have you tried flashing GB radio's?
I haven't tried mainly because they are for GB and it clearly states it in the GB radios. And also because i dont want to mess up my phone.

[Q] Any i717 roms allow LTE disable?

I have an issue where the spotty LTE in my area seemingly messes up all my connectivity (voice, sms, data). I am able to make emergency calls only at times. I am currently ruling out my SIM card, but a Bell employee pointed me in another direction; my LTE service. She told me that LTE is spotty in my area, and that the Note constantly switching from LTE to HSPA will eventually cause the Note to crap out, losing all connectivity. She said enabling HSPA/GSM only in the mobile networks settings fixes the problem. My ICS rom does not have this ability. I am using the HYFER OnlyOne rom right now.
By the searching I have done it seems that allowing HSPA but disabling LTE is common on GB roms (I know it was possible on my stock Bell rom).
Question: Are there ICS roms on here that will allow me to disable LTE data only? I would like one that has S-pen and S-Note support if possible.
You can disable Lte by going yo your phone dialer and dial *#2263#, click on WCDMA Band, then WCDMA All. This will give you HSPA data only. To switch back to LTe, click on Automatic, and reboot phone. This should work on all custom roms.
Thanks pterry. Will save that post fr when I need it.
Team Perfection has the option in their Objection rom (rc 3). Looks like I have two methods to do this now so its appreciated.
would be nice to have a simple toggle, like i had on sprint phones

CM9 has a toggle. Not sure if it works, though, as I don't have LTE in my area.
Will disabling LTE when not in a LTE area conserve battery?

I was too hasty as you noticed; there is an option to switch it, but if you reboot the phone it goes back to the auto-LTE mode.
Good in a pinch, but not the solution I was hoping for.
The dialer method gave me spotty data for some reason...I have reverted to the stock GB rom for now and enabled the auto gsm/hspa option to help troubleshoot.
What carrier are you with

When you disable lte in the keypad or dialer, do not use the back key, use the home button to get out of the dialer. I was reading somewhere in the forum this helps with poor internet connection.

This might be the issue. I was finding that it would still eventually connect to LTE anyways (possibly after a reboot).
I am in Ajax, a suburb of Toronto on Bell...signal is usually great here. I poorly worded my last post..I am not getting spotty HSPA reception, but my connectivity issue was intermittent.
The stock GB rom I have now has worked great for connectivity since I enabled SSM/HSPA only. I might do a nandroid and pop the perfection rom on again and try your suggestion as In liked that rom more than the GB one.
Thanks again!
What modem are you using? I am using LE2 ics modem here in Kitchener. Maybe try another modem, that might reslove your problems

Juts got the Perfection rom again. I had Hyfer as well, but I like the ICS theme and lock screen on the Perfection (I believe they both use the same modem).
Going to try the dialer method now on this rom. I never lost a data connection with the GB rom/gsm/hspa auto mode, so that is encouraging.
If you are an Att phone I dont believe there is any 100% surefire way to turn LTE off because those phones are RAT locked. I have been able to temporaruly turn if off like in the Saurom rom which was cool because I myself are in a bad LTE area. Then the problem become that when I actually used the phone to talk the battery would drop really fast. A 10 minute call would waste 5% of my battery. So i am just hoping that a better modem driver will increase my reception. I hope this helps a little.
if one is on straight talk does one have to disable LTE? Or is it off by default?
You could delete the LTE apn and just use one for 3G. There should be different apns for it

There is a note that the ICS dialer does not work with the *#2263# code. The stock dialer, however, does work.

Please recommend me a radio..

Lte just started in my area and I'm ansy to get it going.. I am running Baseband version 1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1 Kernel version 2.6.35.14 on cyanogen 7.1.1
Witch radios are the newest I should have and should I flash to get the best quality and lte cause I'm not picking up signal and I don't think this is up to date.. Also when you do this are you flashing two separate radios at once or individually naming then the PG05 IMG in fast boot.. And where would I download these? I tried reading a thread on it but it was too confusing. Thanks for you're advice.
You're on the latest radio already. Some people have better results with older radios as every phone is different. I am currently running the 605.9 radios because I was having data drops with the most recent radios.

Have you tried removing your battery and sim card, placing them back,
and then rebooting? This is what's generally required to reestablish the connection and update your prl, etc...might just help.

I have used that method several time and it works occasionally. I think his problem is more related to using aosp than anything. The most recent radios work pretty well with 7.2 I think that 7.1.1 just has that issue no matter what though.

[Q] Help please

alright I got a problem that I need some help with alright this is how it started out I started flashing modem/radios to my rom and I flashed several different one (uclf3-6 and gb) it all started with a fix I tried from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895538&highlight=straight+talk after that it went all haywire I get text I get calls my apn settings are correct checked double checked triple checked I get no data at all use data packets is on im stumped I flashed odin stock and its still the same I cant figure it out can someone help me
You are currently on Stock rom ?
with ST APN settings ?? (they are revised from the thread you posted)
And are you using the UCLE2 modem ??
You must use the UCLE2 modem with Straight Talk APN's in order for data to establish.
And Goldie's rom if possible, but stock rom will work also...
then double check the APN, as it has changed from the original thread that you linked. check the end of that thread, and read it completely for the new APN settings on the MMS and data side.
I dont use ST, but based on the thread, you should have success if the APN is set properly on the UCLE2 modem....g
It is set straight I got the apn settings from straight talk themselves and I am running ucle2 modem and I got nothing

You are likely missing the RIL's from the stock rom with straight talk. Basically without these libraries, the modem wont function...
Did you flash Only one goldies rom to test function ??, as this rom contains the RIL's for ST.
This Straight Talk is a bad deal on connection issues....g
Also...UCLE2 modem is ICS only...If you are running a gingerbread rom, the Modem will "NOT" work anyway....g
How do I get the RILS

You need an ICS rom when using the UCLE2 modem..(ICS only).....
then follow the steps again in the link you posted, with the upgraded APN settings that ST gave you....g
If you have the ICS rom with the ICS modem....your good....g
Tried it it don't work

And please refrain from posting multiple threads.
I understand your frustration, but multiple threads do not increase exposure to the issue. They only gather attention from moderators ...
