[Q] Odd speed dial behavior - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

For some reason, every 2-3 weeks I will go to use a speed dial button and it will say "No contact assigned" or something to that effect. Two or three of my previously setup speed dials will just disappear. Not all, just 2 or 3. I have no idea what causes this. I haven't edited or deleted the assigned contact (almost all are family) and I haven't reflashed my phone. I'm on stock rooted, if that helps. Anyone else seen this strange anomaly?

No one else?

Are ure contacts under google or phone ?

Speed dials disappearing!
Yep mine have disappeared x3 times since I got my phone 4 weeks ago... all x9 of mine go and I don't know why... all the contact numbers are stored on mySIM card and not in the phone memory, which makes it even harder to understand as I have 200 on the sim and just 5 or 10 on the phone... one thought I had (but bear in mind that I'm a IT dinosaur!) is that are they dropping off when I occasionally phone a number stored in the phone memory which causes the phone to switches across from the sim which then disconnects the link with my speed dials stored there?

delayed text messages

right,
my wifes starting to lose her temper with her hero.
she send over 150 text messages a day, but receiving them seems to be a very hit and miss affair.
she gets texts ok for a while, then gets nothing for 10-20 mins (from what i can tell) then all the ones she has missed arrive all at once.
orange UK have basically told her to naff off and talk to HTC.
so, can anyone tell me whats causing the problems, is it an orange problem, or a phone problem.
if its the phone, whats causing the problem
doing a bit of a search, one explanation seems to be that the phone is running out of memory and it shuts down the text app and relaunches it later on, if so, how can i prevent/stop this happening.
she is on the current rom from HTC which she installed about 10 days ago to try and prevent this.
thanks in advance for any advice / help you can give
from what i have read on the forum it might be a problem with the stock messaging app.
try installing handcent sms or chomp sms from the market and see how that goes.
don't forget to turn off the notifications from the stock sms app or you will get multiple notifications for the same message.
also if your wife is using task killer applications she should put the messaging app on the ignore list!
Me too!
I am having this very same problem, although on a slightly smaller scale (150 texts/day?!). I also get the problem where callers are going straight to my voicemail when the phone is right beside me, receiving full signal, which, to my mind, would seem to be related.
I spoke to Orange who fobbed me off with "oh, there's a mast down in your area, switch to use 2G only", despite my protestations that the problem occurred when I was in different parts of the country...
Interestingly, it happened with my Touch Diamond as well when I first got that, about 18 months ago; I was never sure that it was completely cured, but it sure as hell wasn't as bad as it is now on my 2 month old Hero with stock Orange ROM.
My twopenneth, for what it's worth.
P.
Try a new updated Radio rom maybe? One way to tell if its a network issue is to make calls to 150 for about 10 seconds and see if the stuck messages come through, if so its a network issue. I wouldn't let orange customer service fob you off they don't have the reporting tools to actually look into the issue's.

Anyone else getting duplicate text messages?

Ever since I picked up my Inc4G, I seem to randomly get double text messages. Its not from just specific contacts, not from specific carriers, and seems to have no pattern. Sometimes I'll even get three of the same message. I've never had this happen on any of my other phones. Already wiped data to see if that solved it, no dice. Anyone else?
I've gotten a ton of txt's in the last 24 hours because i have my servers at work set to txt me when stuff goes down and comes back up. Had a problem around 12:30 last night so my phone started blowing up.
ANYWAYS i compared the amount of alerts set out with the txt's received (45 in total) and the number was exactly the same on the phone over the course of 5 hours or so. I use Chomp for my txting app, but the txts still drop into the base txting app and i checked both, and the numbers are spot on.
Using stock rom, bootloader unlocked, custom recovery, rooted.
Sorry dude, sounds like a carrier issue though, more than the phone to me.

Sounds like you need to go to the Verizon store. That's almost certainly a carrier service problem (SIM, activation, etc.) rather than software.
I've received MMS and SMS just fine.
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda app-developers app
I have seen this on other phones as well. Delete and recreate the mail accounts and it should clear up the double texts etc.
He said he wiped data in the OP though.

getting same problem

I've never had that happen. Sometimes on my old Dinc, my recipient would receive multiple duplicate texts from me, but that was only if I was receiving a text at the same time I sent one and it made me try to resend, even though the first went through.
As for the split parts, in my experience, any phone from a different network with over 160 characters will come in as multiple texts, as well as any non-smart phone on your own network.
text glitch?

I don't get duplicates, but what happens on mine is after I send a text, there will be the last word of the message I just sent sitting in the new text box. Its random too, every now and then.

[Q] Alcatel Fierce 2 not getting notifications

Anybody know what would cause this? My girlfriend just switched over to Tmobile and got the Alcatel Fierce 2 phone. Her text messages and other notifications are extremely delayed.
The weird part is, even Hangouts messages are extremely delayed on wifi. All of the notifications come in at once every hour or two. I thought maybe it was an issue with the sim but that wouldn't explain push notifications coming in through wifi.
What is going on with this thing? We've tried factory resetting it, we've had them "refresh" the sim card, and we even changed the phone number for that account thinking that maybe transfering a number from a previous carrier was causing problems. Any help would be appreciated! Its running 4.4.2

Check your sync settings under accounts in settings.

I noticed during the set up it asked me questions I did't really know the answer to and in all the confusion I noticed I changed the network type to WCDMA. I did alot of troubleshooting and found that T Mobile only uses GSM so this is why my messages and calls weren't working. I hope this helps. The phoen still runs kind of slow but after experimenting I now know this is the cause of the delayed messages and missed calls.

Duplicate / Delayed Texts

Hey all,
I purchased this phone off Amazon about 6 weeks ago and instantly feel in love with it. And this was right before they announced that Sony would be selling these phones in local retailers in the US.
I've noticed for the last few weeks now, however, that some texts are coming in multiple times. It can range from 3-7 times that I receive the same text, and you can imagine how annoying that'd be. Sometimes, when I send a text to someone, I'll receive a duplicate of the previous text I got from whoever last texted me. Sometimes, I won't receive a text until much later- up to hours later. To top it off, sometimes MMS or group texts won't come through without prompting me to download the text. It wasn't bad at first, as it would happen sparingly, but now it's constant.
I've tried many options, from
- switching and updating/downgrading texting apps (Hangouts, Messenger, Stock texting app)
- editing and switching APN settings
- clearing my phone's cache.
To give some context, I transferred over my data from my Moto X 2013 and moved everything to my SD card the next day after transferring everything. The phone is not rooted. I'm also on AT&T but haven't contacted them about the issues yet (I would rather avoid hours of basic troubleshooting, unless they can actually fix it).
I'd really like to not have to lose all my text messages, and I shouldn't have to. Has anyone else had a similar problem and managed to fix it? What other routes should I try? If factory reset is the only option, what's the best way to back up and restore all my data (contacts, photos, texts)?

are you using the stock texting app? I had these issues when I tried to use a 3rd party messenger a very long time ago. other than that Ive not had this issue.
also maybe check out your system time, something might be up with your towers in the area. I use clocksync as cricket had issues a few months back and I fell in love with the app.

Thanks for the reply,
I use Hangouts as my default texting app. The week that I used the Stock Texting app, I still received duplicates and delayed texts, so I switched back to an interface that I enjoyed more. (Also, the Stock texting app is sometimes really slow when opening conversations)
My system time is on point, but I went ahead and turned off automatic sync for the time and dates.
What settings do you use for Clocksync, and did it fix any texting issues? I just now installed it.
Update to Marshmallow. See if that fixes the problem

Come to think of it google talk is what I was using when I was having those issues haha. probably not related but its something to keep in mind.
i use 1 hour intervals only when awake. idk if you need to be rooted or not for it to work.
There may be a problem with your sim card. Had this a while ago on another phone. Got the sim card replaced and it was gone
A few days later and I have some updates:
1. Have yet to change out my sim card. I will be going to ATT tomorrow to see if that fixes the issue.
2. Marshmallow update is not yet available. However, if I read it right, won't it disable using an external sd card? I wouldn't want to be rid of that feature, it was a big selling point for me.
3. I switched to the stock text message app, and it seemed to work well. It stopped duplicated texts from happening, but some MMS texts don't come through to me at all, and if they do they appear much later. Some texts I receive don't come in until about at least an hour after the contact sent it. Sometimes even 7 hours. Not to mention, the app itself is terribly slow.
4. I tried to switch back to Hangouts for a day after downgrading the app and using the stock texting app, but still had the existing issues from before.
5. Clocksync hasn't done anything for me.
Double Post,
Update:
It appears that getting a new SIM card did the trick after all. Went to the store on Saturday, days ago, and the texts don't appear to be duplicating and they seem to be showing up on time. I'm even back on Hangouts again. Yay!
You just need the patience to deal with how busy the store may be.
If anything changes, I'll let y'all know.

H932 - Pink SIM card icon in Messages app suddenly appeared? (T-Mo H932)

I know there have been no major updates for the H932 in the last handful of months, but for some reason lately my Messages and a few other LG-based apps have started showing a pink SIM card icon next to every single conversation and at the top of the screen. I feel like this has something to do with T-Mobile DIGITS but I've been using the app for over 4 months now and this change just recently happened. It has jacked with all of my text messages and makes it look like the sent and received text messages are all from the same person and I've tried everything I know how in order to get this stupid little icon to go away and from what I've seen even factory resetting the device only works for so long before the icons come back and screw up everything all over again. i really do hope this is ust the DIGITS app making its presence known, since I can tap on the icon in messages and see my own phone number listed as the only option beside it.
I'd rather not have to give up the DIGITS app since it has been a lifesaver for me allowing me to answer phone calls using the Windows app from my computer and not having to hunt my phone down and miss important phone calls. DIGITS is the only service I know of on Android that allows me to remotely answer phone calls, receive and respond to texts and a few other niceties that I have yet to see another Windows app replicate to this degree but if anyone has suggestions then I am open ears. Having said that though, I'm hoping that there's a way to completely remove the SIM card icons from my Messages and Phone applications using ADB or something similar and deleting a few non-rooted files or freezing an application. If anyone knows how to remove this horrible "feature" from my phone I'd be greatly appreciative. If this fails to work I would even be willing to at least disable DIGITS altogether as long as there's still a way to remove the icons from my LG-approved apps. I can't really afford to keep factory resetting but if that's something I have to do and it will revert the phone back to stock state I'd even consider rooting this POC at this point. Any help would be appreciated.
