Tab 10.1 bricked or just stupid? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

half alseep, i attempted to update my tab the "official" way with the software update options. it downloaded in the background pleasantly enough, then prompted a reboot, ok i said.
after seeing that good old galaxy tab 10.1 boot logo, the logo was replaced with a slightly larger one.
for a split second i saw a load bar at the bottom of the screen, i only saw "9%" before it vanished, replaced with a totally black screen
"that's fine" i said "probably just silently installing"
twenty minutes with no change later i was getting worried
i did a hard reset (holding the power button for 8 seconds) since that's basically all i can do.
it got to the boot image and went straight to a black screen with the backlight on, same as before.
i attempted to get into recovery (power+volume down) but the green android never appears, it just cycles through the boot logo over and over again.
plugging it in doesn't work, my system doesn't see it at all as far as i know
plugging it in and trying to boot recovery also does not work
is it bricked?
i don't think i'll ever do official updates ever again, this is pitiful

badumtss. This is why I hate kies. Basically when you boot it up, it goes directly to black screen is it?

not quite, it displays the original boot logo (the slightly smaller "galaxy tab 10.1" logo) for a few seconds before going to black screen

Are you using correct technique to get into recovery/ download? If you keep holding the buttons down it will just keep cycling through boot as you describe. Did you release as soon as logo appears? Sounds like your hard reset interrupted the update and you're missing full boot partition or system partition. If your " hold down the buttons" was at fault and you do get into recovery etc maybe odin is the way forward... just a thought. Also your long press on power might be putting the tab in apx mode, have you tried that and then seen if it is visible to nvflash?

more data;
i let the battery run down to zero after reading some technique to un-brick which required it, until i just read here about how recovery is when you let go of pwr+vol down right as the logo pops up, not waiting for the green android logo.
so, i plugged it in and tried that.
the result is;
it'll power up, show the battery charging image with the little loading circle (i guess it's fetching the battery status) but the battery status never loads. instead it flashes the galaxy tab 10.1 logo for a split second and then back to the black screen of death.
i'll attempt again when the battery has more juice

damn!
after letting the battery charge up some more i tried going into recovery again.
same problem;
hold down power and volume down (the side of the volume rocker closest to the power button)
wait for the logo to appear
as soon as "samsung galaxy tab 10.1" appears, i let go
but it STILL sits there for a second, then flashes the slightly larger boot logo before going to a black screen
damnit damnit! do i have a paperweight? i really want to punch whoever authored that update.
EDIT: a possibly related issue, i cannot turn off the tablet anymore. if i hold down the power button to turn it off, it just cycles back into a boot.

Might wanna try my draining method, I posted it somewhere here, must be in page 3-4, Ill bump it up

I'm having a similar issue, basically everything the same except it doesn't go black after the logo comes up, the back light gets slightly brighter and the logo stays there. It also wont turn off, unless I have it charging then unplug it.. the update was interrupted by me accidentally going into recovery(at least I think it was. It could have just been by pressing the power down because I haven't done a system update before, so I don't know what all happens), then it went into download and was stuck on the odin interface. I did a hard reboot, and then it started buggering up. How does an update interruption brick your tab? What kind of person makes something that can do that.. lol.
OK! Problem solved guys, sorry for "spamming", lol. Just flashed it back to stock.. now to try different ROMs for the first time. Thanks!

Download mode only for a second

Ok, A friend needs to me fix there galaxy note. It will boot to the samsung logo, then to the greener samsung logo, then the screen just goes black. I can get it into download mode, but after like 3 seconds the screen goes black also, and the pc dont reconize the device at all.. if i plug the usb in.
any suggestions, ive never seen this before.
How is your battery? Was the phone rooted? What was done to cause this?
Sounds like a stuck power button. Try tapping the power button quickly a bunch of times. Or try flicking the back of the phone by the power button with your finger.

[Q] Galaxy S III crashes, won't boot unless connected to power source

I took Verizon's NC1 OTA about two weeks ago. This weekend, Maps kept locking up, and now that has devolved into the whole phone suddenly dying. No power off animation, just the screen goes black and the phone is off. When I attempt to boot it back up, it'll do the same sudden death bit, sometimes without even making it through the Verizon boot animation. The battery had a strong charge the first time this happened - about 70%. It will fully boot if I connect it to a power source, but it will die again after some active use off the charger. As a result of this, I'm also unable to boot into recovery. I would ultimately love to flash some other ROM as I think I may have corrupted something when I took the OTA. Battery is new-ish (or, more likely, refurbished-ish) - replaced the phone via insurance back in December.
Some additional background: I had my phone rooted two OTA's ago. When I installed the second most recent OTA (I forget which, maybe MC1?), the phone obviously unrooted, but then I also got the "Samsung Custom" boot screen with the unlocked image, which I thought odd considering it was an official OTA.
In summary: I have a phone that is rather useless unless I'm perpetually near a power source. Has anyone had a similar experience, or does any one know what the heck I can do to fix this?
It's alive
So disregard the bulk of that post. Turns out the power problem was a bad battery. I popped in the battery from the old, smashed phone and it worked like a champ.
However, I'm still stuck with the problem of not being able to boot into recovery. I'll get the same Samsung logo with the unlocked logo and "custom" at the bottom, but then the screen will go black and nothing will happen until I let go of the key sequence, at which point it'll finally boot up normally. Thoughts?
Is your phone the i9300 model? If not then ask a moderator to move it to the correct forum for you.

I don't think this is the right forum, but I couldn't find one specifically for this device.
I'll start with a brief explanation...
I work in a motel where things are constantly being left behind by guests. Policy requires that we hold lost items for 30 days. At which time employees can take said items. I always get the phones/gadgets.
So, I just got one of these LG Optimus Dynamic devices. However, it won't turn on (probably the reason they left it behind). When I press the power button, I just get a solid white screen... Is there any way to fix this device, or is it just a paperweight at this point?

@Can0dope
Remove battery. Wait 10 seconds. Put battery back in. Hold Volume Down and plug an Usb cable in it (USB must be in PC with an os running also). Tell me what happens.
@christi9503 I followed your instructions. It booted up to the white screen again, the screen flashed, it made a boot sound, and vibrated. A crack has recently appeared under the screen. Touch is still responsive.

That is strange that should get you in the emergency mode. Try again holding button up. If this does not work power it off hold Volume down+Home button+Power. wait 8 seconds release power. tell me what happens.

[H] Stuck at flash screen then blanks out

Here's my story: Was Running Hyperdrive RLS 19 and attempted to upgrade to RLS 20. I was running CWM 1.0.3.5 as my bootloader and had switched to a high capacity SD card that couldn't do FAT32, so it couldn't mount. Moved update.zip to internal storage and everything appeared to install just find in Aroma. After the initial installation it goes to the first flash screen (which says Samsung Custom and a picture of a padlock) and then the screen goes blank. I took out the battery after waiting 15-20 minutes after the screen went blank the first time.
Here's where I'm at: After I insert the battery, the flash screen comes up and goes dark immediately. I've tried holding Home+VolUp+Power which gets me some blue text above the flash screen, but still goes blank. One time I was able to make it to the actual OS, but it went blank and shut off shortly after. I was thinking it was a battery issue, but the battery read 67% or thereabouts before everything went dark. Additionally, the charging light isn't working when the phone is hooked up the the charger. I assume it's not charging, but I have no way to test that.
Here are the things I've tried:
booting with/without SD & SIM cards
Replacing battery with new one
Letting it sit all night
Inserting battery while holding Home+VolUp+Power
Inserting battery while holding VolDown - This gets me to a new screen, but shuts off after a couple secs
All of these yield the same thing. Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated. I'm pretty certain that I'm going to need to bite the bullet and get a new phone soon.
TLDR - Phone is going blank after 1-2 secs after botched rom flash. Tried a bunch of stuff. Am I SOL?
Can you get into "Download Mode"?
Power off the phone completely by removing its battery for 5 seconds.
Re-insert the battery back into its place.
Press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons, all at the same time.
Release the buttons only when the ‘Warning!!’ message appears.
Next, press Volume Up button to confirm that you wish to enter Download Mode.
Your device will now show a green Android with the ‘Downloading… Do not turn off target’ text listed under it.
That’s it, now you can connect your device with your PC after you launch ODIN.
Thanks for the reply, but the screen still blanks out. After leaving phone on the charger all night the battery is totally drained and won't even turn on. May go into a store later this week to see if they have any suggestions. Otherwise I think it's time for a new phone. Thanks again for the tip.

Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T) screen not working correctly

So I had my Galaxy S5 from T-Mobile for a couple of months and it has been working great, especially after the recent Marshmallow update. But as of late, my phone would crash and keep restarting until it starts up normally again. Over time, it would get progressively worse and it would take longer to boot up over the course of a couple of days, and when it does finally manage to boot up and work, pressing the power button would crash the phone and throw it back into a boot loop. I left the phone alone for a couple of days and came back to it to try to boot it up again, and it worked well! It booted up first try without any kind of restarts and the power button worked a couple of times until... it failed again when I pressed the power button and it got stuck in a boot loop again. And after a couple of minutes of being stuck in a boot loop, it would boot, but the screen was black. The LED at the top of the phone and the lights from the capacitive buttons would work and I know the phone is working it's just that the screen is not. I can manage to turn off the phone without the screen by holding the power button and guessing where the "Power Off" button is. And while the phone is in this state, when I press the power button the phone would lock like it's supposed to. I've tried taking out the battery and holding the power button for 2 minutes and letting the phone rest for another 10 minutes but it doesn't seem to really do anything. I've tried rooting it before but failed to, but I don't really think that's the problem. If you guys have any suggestions I would really appreciate it! Using my old Galaxy S3 is kinda annoying, especially since Pokemon Go doesn't support it. Thanks again!
If you guys would like a video of some sort to see what's going on exactly then I'll be glad to make one for you guys.
Did the problem start after you tried to root? What did you use to try and root your phone? What baseband are you on? Do you have stock or a custom recovery?
From past experience, symptoms indicate a stuck power buton. FWIW.
