[Q] Google wallet for Note on ICS? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Now that we have ICS on the Note, is there any way to get Google Wallet working on it? Especially from outside the US?

No.

I have the Galaxy Note from Rogers as well. I've tried using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360. So far all I've gotten is an "Initializing your device" without end, but it could just be my connection. Give it a shot, you might have better luck than I do. Report back plz!

I'm on AT&T in the US, and I get the same thing. Ah well ...

Google Wallet Question

Surprising to me, if you go to the play store you can download and install google wallet. I don't think we could do that even rooted with that galaxy nexus, but my question is, since we can load it direct from the play store, will it work if/when we obtain root?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really loved that ability with the galaxy nexus and roms. just hoping to get that feature back.

no, or at least it didn't work on my rooted unlocked note ii (non verizon)
You can download but it will not allow setup...

Wow what a tease. I hope they get this up and running when we get root. I had it on my S3 and I used it all the time.
so far I only successfully used Gwallet on my verizon GNex. Non of other phones I have, or any tricks used will make it work.

Working Google Wallet

Is there a way to get Google Wallet working on Verizon Galaxy S4?
Does anyone know of any alternatives that are working?
I would definitely like to know because I am interested in using the paywave style payments

Are you rooted? If your not, then you cannot get Wallet to work. If you are, then see the thread on Wallet mentioned above.
Thanks for the direction, I will be giving this a try today.
UPDATE! Followed instructions, method A and it seems to have installed correctly, have not had chance to go to store to test. but install did pass and i was able to set up cards. Thank you both
Hi... I rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 Tuesday night (I have the MDK, not ME7) and it went very smoothly, thanks to the guys who work hard and post their instructions in these forums... flawless, and much appreciated! Last night I followed the "Method A" instructions (w/TWRP recovery) for Google Wallet and it went smoothly.
(Google Wallet's setup on your phone will eventually say: "Setting up Google Wallet, this may take up to 5 minutes..." Mine took about 20 minutes, so you just have to wait and try not to be worried that something didn't work right!)
Anyway, it worked like a charm. This morning I tested it at McDonald's and it worked well. At first I held my phone to the pad and nothing happened. So I pulled it away, and then tried once more and it immediately popped up Google Wallet, asked for my pin, told me to tap the phone one more time and BAZINGA!
Good luck everyone, I hope you have as much success as I've had with it. And a huge THANK YOU! to whomever posted the instructions and developed this method.

Wallet for everyone? Google, oh you.

I just happened to be looking when this appeared....

Yeah, the DNA has NFC.
Edit: just read your post on another thread. Was just about to go to the store to test out. Have they tried that and NFC isn't working, or NFC isnt working in general?
I have just installed it on my DNA and I'm going to try the vending machine here on campus. Will update soon!

I have not tried yet, but without the secure element I dont see how it could work. Verizon wins again
If you go to the about screen it still says that tap and pay is "not available" for us. So I'm guessing we still can't use it for that. I wonder with this new version if it might be easier to get it to work though?

We are able to get the SE Sim Cards from Verizon. If that's the only thing stopping it from working, then that's a piece of cake. If and only if
Just confirmed that if you change your build.prop to a Tap and Pay supported phone like the Galaxy Nexus, it will then proceed to look for a Secure Element and wallet will not load. If you keep your stock build prob for your device it knows that it has no secure element and will just report back that Tap and Pay is not available. Pulled a log cat to confirm this. It returns that no SMX is available and will force close wallet after a certain amount of time.
I'm wondering if Google might of added the ability to look for Secure Elements on sim cards with this updated. Can anyone confirm that might have an NFC SE Sim card?
Bottom line is.... If we have no SE embedded on our phones, then NFC payments with Wallet are not a possibility.

I wonder if all it needs now to get SMX access is the nfc_access.xml file in /system/etc that contains the Google Wallet key, instead of just a Isis key. AFAIK, you can have both keys listed in the nfc_access.xml file. But if you don't have a NFC sim card, I guess you can't verify ...
If you feel like changing your build.prop again, maybe you could experiment with the nfc_access.xml file?

I have the right SIM, and wouldn't mind testing this for you. You may have to walk me through it, though... I'm not extremely savvy with altering xml files.

It checks the the phone is rooted. That's what is stopping it. If you go to Verizon galaxy s4 thread and go to Google wallet you can see what they did to make it work.

Those methods do not work. They have been tried in the past. You still need a secure element to have Tap n Pay function. The DNA lacks this element, but the GS4 has it.

Yea it does...
The new wallet app works on the S4 right out of the box! Really makes me want to switch to it from my DNA, but the G2 is looking like my next choice Sadly Wallet doesn't function on that either :/

The tap to pay does not work unless you trick the build prop.

I was just looking at their thread for the new version and it doesn't even seem like you need to have xposed framework at all. Looks like all the flashable zip does is intall the Wallet.apk so you don't have to change your build.prop to get it from the market. Although it looks like people are having a tough time using the new version compared to the old version.

It's funny I installed the old wallet then a couple days later the new one came out and I wasn't going to switch it all over again. I'm running the hyperdrive rom and some people are hit and miss with tap to pay to work. I figured I would wait till someone gets it all hashed out and working flawlessly. There aren't very many pay pass places in Eugene Or. The only place I know of is toys R us.

OTA Kit Kat thread for non-rooted phones.

I created this thread for people who do not have their phones rooted.
I am downloading the OTA currently and can't wait to discuss the pros and cons about this update compared to Jelly Bean.
The OTA was indeed 4.4.2
I am loving the notification bar being all white. It will take more time to comment on any other features.
"Google Camera" is a must if you are on Kit Kat and you like bokeh effects (someone's face or a specific item that is in focus and everything else out of focus). The effect is more profound if the background items that are out of focus are far away.
I mention Google Camera because you have to have Kit Kat to install it.
Can you test FoxFi to make sure it works on the update?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 3
I have never used it before but I will download it when I get home and see if I can get my 3ds to connect through it...I also have a 10.1 tablet at home I will try it on as well.
I am on the share everything plan so hotspot is free for me...I have never used it though.
I went to Foxfi's website and they list kit Kat on the Note 3 as a workable device.
http://pdanet.co/help/devices.php
I really want to hear about battery life before making the plunge. If anyone can throw some stats up in a few days after a couple cycles I would greatly appreciate it :good:
I went to activate foxfi but in the end it wanted me to turn on mobile hotspot from settings....seeing how I am on a share everything plan I am able to have free mobile hotspot. Therefore I can't verify if foxfi works or not...the play store app lists that it does on the Note 3 and the foxfi website says that it does on the Note 3.
The foxfi app had me make a pin to unlock my phone...now even after uninstalling foxfi I can't remove the pin security. The option to choose none is shaded and I am unable to choose none. Uhg!!!

Mine didn't change either...I didn't know anything about the new one until I just read about it...I want it!
So now that Note 3 and other Verizon phones starting to get 4.4. Do you think we will see tap-n-pay Google Wallet ever? Or you think that will still be forever blocked on non-rooted/stock Verizon phones?
Are there new radios or is the signal strength any better in 4.4?
Verizon setup ISIS on my Note 3 at the time of my purchase. The first time I tried to use it, I didn't realize that I hadn't added the American Express Serve card (with the $25 free money added). The second time I tried to use it I couldn't get it to work...However, S-beam was off and now I keep it on. Both times above I gave up and paid with my card...so I am still waiting to try it for the first time.
As far as Google Wallet goes...I just downloaded the app from the Play Store. I will mess around with it after work to see how I can get it to work. Already though it tells me about the most recent purchases I have done with Google even the free ones.

There is a certain section on my way home that I always lose signal if I am talking to someone...it has been the same with the Incredible 2, galaxy S3, LG G2 and the Galaxy Note 3 before Kit Kat.. I will respond to your question after about a week of going home after work. I expect it to be the same though.
Is your Note 3 worst than other phones you have had?
I'm curious about the battery life. My battery life is outstanding on my Note 3 on 4.3... Hoping KK is the same. Haven't taken the plunge yet.. Still reading feedback.

By far. My HTC Thunderbolt had decent reception after it got a couple updates.
At work I'll be sitting right next to guys with other phones on verzion(Note 2, S4, motos) and they all get way better signal than the few of us that have the note 3.
Battery life...ehhh. I keep my phone plugged in at work so the weekend will be the true test for that. I keep Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi on at all times.

[Q] Google Wallet TTP?

I'm about to buy the VZW G3. This might be a dumb question, but can anyone confirm whether or not tap to pay in Google Wallet works on the device?
I have it installed and activated TTP but haven't tried it out yet. Hopefully today I'll have chance to test it.

Yes works fine.
Worked like a charm at Walgreen's.

Worked flawlessly at Whole Foods. The cashier looked at me like i was crazy and said "How did you do that?"
For future reference, any phone/device with stock kk + nfc, Google wallet t&p will work. It can no longer be blocked by a manufacturer or carrier.
tried it out once but didn't work (app and cash register gave an error), probably just a fluke
Thanks for the responses guys. Yeah I wasn't sure because I came from a Galaxy S3 with CM 11 and there was a point where it just stopped working no matter what I threw at it. Worked fine for several months before that too. Wasn't sure if it was due to a restriction on the model, carrier or who knows what. About to try it out myself with the G3 today

Working great on my rooted G3.
Worked fine on my Galaxy S4 until Google removed support for everything that was not on KitKat.
So if at any point you were not on KitKat, support would have gone away.
I forgot the cutoff date for Wallet support for pre-KitKat releases.

What was weird was that I was running the latest version of KitKat for quite some time and TTP never seemed to work. Wallet would show it as available but it never actually worked at terminals. Not sure why it stopped working, but I do know that other people had the same problem with the GS3. Just glad to be done with whatever incompatibility or blocking that was and on to a much better phone :good:
Probably unnecessary for me to post but figured I'd also add in that I just used Tap to Pay at McDonald's and it worked beautifully!!!

Works for me. The cashier did not even talk to me through an entire transaction but when I used tap and pay she said...the was really cool.
