Google Wallet Question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Surprising to me, if you go to the play store you can download and install google wallet. I don't think we could do that even rooted with that galaxy nexus, but my question is, since we can load it direct from the play store, will it work if/when we obtain root?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really loved that ability with the galaxy nexus and roms. just hoping to get that feature back.

Wow what a tease. I hope they get this up and running when we get root. I had it on my S3 and I used it all the time.

so far I only successfully used Gwallet on my verizon GNex. Non of other phones I have, or any tricks used will make it work.

I have the Galaxy Note from Rogers as well. I've tried using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360. So far all I've gotten is an "Initializing your device" without end, but it could just be my connection. Give it a shot, you might have better luck than I do. Report back plz!
I'm on AT&T in the US, and I get the same thing. Ah well ...

[REQ/INFO]Galaxy S3 Japan (SC-06D) root

Picked up my Japanese S3 today and looking to root it. I'm reading that using the I9300 is no go since it is a completely different model number. Specs for anyone interested:
Baseband:

Kernel:

Build:

If I can provide anything else let me know.
i would like to know the same...wtfusernameistaken is your nfc working...or is the app ic tag reader/writer the same thing?...or is it something i have to turn on through docomo?

The Japanese version doesn't have NFC, only Japan's long-established equivalent.
Anyway, I love the phone, but I can't wait until some of the geniuses on here come up with an easy way to root it.

Negative. Just tried to scan my edy but no joy. My nexus S grabs it fine however. Cannot wait to dump this stupid docomo rom and get a vanilla one on. That or just go back to my Nexus S.
またSC-06DはNFCを搭載していないので、「Android Beam」を拡張したデータ転送機能「S Beam」も利用できない. Yep, no NFC.
SamMobile has a rom out for SC-06D. As soon as the DL finishes gonna give it a go since I tried the I9300 and it just black screens.
i seen that but i was pretty sure that was just the stock rom...which is really helpful if a bad rom is loaded and need to go back to stock...ive downloaded it too and keeping it to the side for emergencies....
The ability to root and throw CyanogenMod 9 on docomo's Galaxy S3 are the two most important factors in whether or not I will buy it in the next couple of months. Can you please keep us updated on your progress, wtfusernameistaken?
Hi all
Just registered to join in on this thread.
This is my first smartphone and was all excited for the s3,
only to be unpleasantly surprised by the docomo palette ui...
I knowledge my noob status, so please be gentle with me.

My honest opinion is that the phone sucks. No NFC, annoying uninstallable apps, battery gets quite warm, camera is meh, Kies is basically iTunes with a different layout. I went back to my nexus S and passed the S3 off to the wife. Tried to get a galaxy nexus but it would seem that it did so bad in Japan that they liquidated their entire stock 3 months ago. Guess I'll just have to wait for the next dev phone.
The rom on sammobile is in fact the stock rom, but good to have in case.
Your first sentence had me dying. Lol I guess that sums it up, though. I guess I'll start preparing to buy a One X, though I think I'm going to attempt to get the AT&T version and have it unlocked, as it seems that model is more liked than the international version. I don't even play Words with Friends, so Tegra 3, Schmegra 3 for all I care.
In my opinion this is a beast of a phone...nfc not there..it maybe just no unlocked..the screen is great..the 2gb is a major factor...the fact it'll be one if few phones to receive the jelly bean update..even the little tv tuner which I'm sure the statewide doesn't have..the massive support for it...the camera is great, even though some might choose a third party app...people are judging the phone after a few days of use...the real beauty and love affair comes after extended use...having all this potential and being a root and or custom Rom away from unleashing it is mouth watering...already my s3 out performs my s2 in every way...and it can only get better...every day I find or notice something about this phone that makes it more and more awesome...give it a chance and don't be so basis guys...

If you lack Japanese skills I would be hesitant to root. Some of the warnings that come up will not be in english. Not to mention that all the development on the root was done by Japanese and the "documentation" will be as well.
This is my first Android device (and my first post )
I found the amount of Samsung and Docomo apps really ridiculous.
I want to get CM9 onto the device, so I can have a completely clean slate with no remnants of all the shovelware. As I'm new, I don't know how yet, but I've found several guides and videos and such for doing it for other devices, even the other versions of the Galaxy S3. Unfortunately I haven't found too much specifically for the Docomo Japan version, so I'm a little hesitant to try anything just yet. Is there anything that makes the Docomo device different from other Galaxy S3's, anything I should look out for?
One thing to note for anyone else who bought it here in Japan at Docomo, by default they automatically sign you up for a ton of their crap, iChannel, BodyMo, etc., and each one costs monthly. They're very easy to forget about. If you go digging through the "my docomo" site, through the customer support stuff, eventually you'll find the options to cancel each of the stuff they signed you up for. They really do make it hard to get to.

[Q] Nabi 2 Google Play Store

Hi Ive been trying to root my Nabi 2 tablet to access the Google Play Store. Ive downloaded ADB and followed instructions, Ive also got the correct drivers etc, when i ran the root tool by jmz I chose option 1 and it ran through the process, is there anything else I need to during during this as I then booted up and it was just the same as before?! Im normally an apple fan and experienced in jailbreaking etc but this is my first android as Im trying to exchange all my apple devices for android lol. Can some help me find a step by step full tutorial as Ive been trying to follow the one in this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1905674 but I cant understand what else I need to do?! Thanks in advance
Anybody?! JMZTAYLOR if you see this can you please write a quick tutorial on what I need to do as Im clearly doing something wrong. Its probably just something so simple Im missing?! Any advice would be highly appreciated, sorry if this post is extremely noobish Im normally very adaptable!
Any Luck?
I was just wondering, it's been over a month with no post here. Did you get it working? If so can you post your solution or a link to the thread with the solution you used?
Not sure about the root tool for your device, but any good root tool will install a superuser app, such as Superuser:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
Not sure if you got your issues sorted yet but if you go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905674 I am sure someone could help you. I just rooted 2 in about 20 minutes over the weekend. Good luck
There's no need to root the nabi for the play store...
http://everythingnabi.blogspot.com/2012/08/googlie-booglie.html
Interesting, except for step 21:
21. Do not update or attempt to install any apps, as it will force close the Google Play Store. The apk file installed is not fully functional on the nabi 2 Tablet. It does however allow for the purchase of Books, Movies and Music. The following pop-up will appear if you attempt to update or purchase an app.
If you root you will have a fully functional Play Story as well as text AND video on Google Talk plus many other features

I want to get Google Play working on my son's Nabi 2 as well, but I'm pretty concerned over the touch calibration issue some people are having on the ROM thread about rooting it. I've only had one android device (my galaxy s2) and thought about rooting it, but couldn't find an overly compelling reason to do so. Now that the Nabi 2 needs it, I would be loathe to brick it/mess it up to get this calibration issue. Even if I try on my s2, this Nabi seems a tad different for some reason.

That is a very rare issue. If you root it and have a problem with the touch screen it only effects recovery software once it's rooted and gapps installed you won't have to go back to recovery.

It is indeed a rare issue, if the script goes fine, you shouldn't have to do anything in recovery yourself anyway. Here is the gapps.zip that fixes the 'android upgrading' on every boot.

If you want a more manual approach, check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016463
It's written for Ubuntu, but the commands are easy to adapt for Windows as well. You install adb and fastboot differently and you remove 'sudo' from the commands.

Do you really need Google Play?
Nabi 2 works great with Amazon App store (over 50,000 apps). Ex. Unless I installed Minecraft PE, my son would have 2 tablets for Christmas, his with no minecraft and mine with. In daddy mode you can get amazon and the installed apps are manageable in the add/remove to decide which apps to allow your child to see. PS: DO NOT add Amazon store to Nabi mode (unless your child is older, or unless your rich and don't mind your child maxing out a credit card on apps). Personally, I have jailbroken ipads for friends and rooted my last Motorola phone, but I wouldn't risk and consequences of screwing up your child's brand new tablet. You can go from Hero to Zero if you mess up.

Personally I would go ahead and root/gapps so you can have Google Play, use AdAway, etc etc.
Just be prepared to lose a bit more battery life when you install the Amazon app store. I have heard about it taking up a bit more battery due to licence checks, running in the background and such.

For some reason I can't download anything from the play store all of a sudden. It worked fine the other day, but today it gives me an error when ever I try to download a new app or update an installed app.

Does anyone know if there is a fix for the WiFi problem?
Also - stupid question - is it technically feasible to install the Play store without rooting?

Are you rooted? If your not, then you cannot get Wallet to work. If you are, then see the thread on Wallet mentioned above.
Thanks for the direction, I will be giving this a try today.
UPDATE! Followed instructions, method A and it seems to have installed correctly, have not had chance to go to store to test. but install did pass and i was able to set up cards. Thank you both
Hi... I rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 Tuesday night (I have the MDK, not ME7) and it went very smoothly, thanks to the guys who work hard and post their instructions in these forums... flawless, and much appreciated! Last night I followed the "Method A" instructions (w/TWRP recovery) for Google Wallet and it went smoothly.
(Google Wallet's setup on your phone will eventually say: "Setting up Google Wallet, this may take up to 5 minutes..." Mine took about 20 minutes, so you just have to wait and try not to be worried that something didn't work right!)
Anyway, it worked like a charm. This morning I tested it at McDonald's and it worked well. At first I held my phone to the pad and nothing happened. So I pulled it away, and then tried once more and it immediately popped up Google Wallet, asked for my pin, told me to tap the phone one more time and BAZINGA!
Good luck everyone, I hope you have as much success as I've had with it. And a huge THANK YOU! to whomever posted the instructions and developed this method.

There's an app called "Phone Info" that will let you do it but it hasn't been on the play store in some time (you'd have to hunt around to find an APK online).
There's another called "4G Switch" which is $0.99 on the play store which several people have noted works on the S4. Looks like it's essentially the same app as Phone Info, with a few changes.
I haven't used either so can't comment on their functionality but worst case you could drop a buck and if the paid app doesn't work, just refund it.
Think you can enable some scripts by Terminal in certain ROMs like Hyperdrive
