LCD density - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

How do I adjust in rom toolbox? I go in to build.prop editor and near the bottom there are 2 lines that say ro.sf.lcd_density. When I click on both they say 320. Is it as simple as changing that to 240 (if that's where I'm trying to be)?
Recommendations?

Isn't 240 making the icons larger...? Why would you want to do that...?

No its lowering the visible pixel density which in turn gives you smaller objects and more physical space.

i was trying to set it to 180 but at 180 the phone app force closes infact when i click on phone it just stays blank for few seconds and then force closes. so i had to go to 220. any thoughts on any solution to that?... also at 220 the dialer buttons stay still the big size so they are not fully visible, any remedy?

I thought just the opposite. Lowering density is less pixels per inch which means larger icons etc. also means your lowering your resolution. Is it just me that feels lowering your resolution is counter productive.
Lower pixel density = less resolution = larger icons etc. doesn't make sense to me why we would want to do this. There us a magnifier feature built in.

Nope definitely makes everything small im pretty sure it shows up smaller since the phone for some reason is set at default at 320 dpi in ICS and true dpi is 285.

I will test size difference... Have you noticed a Resolution difference?

Smaller density us smaller size. I was wrong sorry. What is the effect on resolution though? I don't seemuch of difference...

Some apks will have to be modified for a lower density, like earlier when asked about the phone force closing. There is a mooded apk for the gs2 but not sure about the note.

ADW launcher dock doesn't fill screen

The dock at the bottom of my home screen doesn't stretch to the edges.. I'm using the honeycomb theme for it, so the black rectangle just looks dumb when it doesn't stretch. I assume its caused by this phones different resolution? Can it be fixed?

Yeah I tried going invisible and turning it off, but I kinda liked the black bar lol. How do I change this so called screen density? Is this an ADW setting or something else?

Haha yeah, but that's a legitimate question. The default dock for ADW has rounded edges, so I didn't really notice the problem until I used the HC theme, and the black rectangle looks really weird when it doesn't touch the sides.
I actually just downloaded LauncherPro and it fits the screen, and I kind of like it better than ADW anyway so problem pretty much solved!
Saw this at work but glad u found what works for you. I've used paid adw over Gingerblur from day one and haven't had problems. I've used many bars but have the 5 icons at the bottom. Glad ur fixed up

[CM7]Changing DPI improves 2D graphics

In Cyanogenmod 7 there are no known problems when changing DPI from 160 to 140 .
When I am at 140DPI , the Xperia Active Launcher was not at the correct resolution , but LauncherPro and ADW.Launcher adapted to the larger resolution .
I have also seen boosts in 2D gaming such as Cut The Rope , Doodle Jump and Ninjump
REMEMBER I ONLY SAID THIS IS FOR CM7

how did you go about changing the DPI? changed the build.prop values or did you use a market app?
I run LCD Resolution which allows you to set density at boot as I found 140 to not break anything. Very nice being able to run 140 and 6 columns on the homescreens.
Sounds like a computer giving better performance using 800x600, cool ****!
You know what?? I think this is the real resolution of ace. Everything seems better. Even battery.

If you do a search on SPB Shell or messages I posted and you'll find some messages and screen shots I left of SPB shell after the latest update. Seem the latest update reduced the resolution in tablet mode and I finally wound up going back to a previous version I DL'ed off the net. It runs good on the note though, it's one of the 1st apps I DL'ed when I got my phone.

[REQ] Resized LWP Asus Day Scene

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638541
APK located in those threads that work with the Note Tab.
I think this might just be a resolution issue, I looked at how to get this LWP to work for Nexus 7/you just change the DPI of the system. I tried playing around with different DPI's on my N2 and it would load without FC, but it was super zoomed in. Since we got auroa working, any chance of someone resizing this to work with the note 2?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37318299&postcount=4
someone had modded this to work on the note 2, but the resolution is a bit small. i have pm'd him and he seems to be working on making one with the corrected resolution/updated apk.
Has anyone heard if this cool LWP has ever been sized to the Note 2 screen. I love the aurora LWP and I have the tried resized day scene. Indeed, it is a little short to cover the entire screen, which just makes it seem ...odd. I can see that if this LWP came to the Note 2 - it would be a really cool set up!
Thanks!!

FYI that wallpaper is the wrong dimension.. you set it to scroll, but you are supposed to be able to see the whole tree. js version ftw
Not working properly on JBv10
Doesn't display correctly on 4x5 TouchWiz scrollable launcher running on JBv10. The wallpaper image needs to be fixed to the Note 2's resolution size: 720 x 1280.
1024x600 - Install was a success. However, missing left and top portion.
1280x800 - Install error/fail.
AsusDayScene.apk + signedAsusDayScene - Install error/fail.
I currently have the 'Blue Skies Live Wallpaper' by Kittehface Software but it's draining too much battery. Hopefully, this LWP will give better battery life. :fingers-crossed:

I did not know that. Resizing the background means the tree and landscape will get dramatically smaller. As the wallpaper was made to be viewed in landscape mode.

Best DPI for Galaxy Note 2

I was wondering what is the best DPI for my Galaxy Note 2, I tried other people's suggestions but it didn't work for me so I was wondering how Google decided on their DPI. Considering they're in charge of Android they must know the optimal level so I used the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 4 as reference:

So if Google designed a 5.5 inch screen device with 720x1280 resolution, it would most likely be at 270 DPI
I know this won't help a lot of you how it helped me but just thought I'd share it just on the hunch that it might at least help the 1% :silly:
