So I would have thought there would be a way to take advantage of WP7 on TG01 to get android/ linux running. WP7 is like the gateway if you know what I mean

Yes, but like WM6.X, there is no driver for android Access our TG01.
isn't it easier with haret.exe on winmo 6.x or would it be easier to write everything new from scratch on WP7?

Since I run Linux systems at home I'm really interested in running it on my phones too. I kinda ordered my new phone since my TYTN is falling apart (does not synch thru USB anymore) so I can wait till late november for HTC to release their phone on Android.
So, do you think HTC will make an Android ROM for the Raphael? (or is there a big probability someone will cook it from another ROM)
I don't think they will do such a Android-ROM for Touch Pro as they will try to sell their new Android-Device. But since the Touch Pro has this Qualcomm-CPU, I hope Android will run on it - Again, made by some community-member, not HTC.
would somebody like to try booting linux on the raphael? I wonder if things will behave in the same way as on the diamond ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402002 )
in that thread, marbalon posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=104265&d=1218018832 a package with latest haret and a build for the halibut machine from the google git.
also you can replace the zImage in the diamond.zip with the zImage builds for vogue from dzo: for example http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/zImage
or try the kaiser kernel http://linuxtogo.org/~lgorris/kaiser-bootkit/zImage.bin
and report what happens. does haret get further than go go go? Which machine does it detect?
thanks
can a moderator move this to raphael rom development please?
I tried the bootkit for Diamond, the latest builds for the kaiser from igorris and also the latest build for vogue - but all hang up.
i will investigate a bit....
do they hang at 100% / Go Go Go? Do you see console output?

Please take a look in this topic..

Its about running Android on the Diamond..
And they didnt got it working...
And the Pro got the same proccesor/chipset ast the Diamond..
we created a research page with links to the kernel relevant wiki pages:

Done... and good luck!
As i wrote last time, i didn´t get running the kernel for Kaiser (Latest Build) and Vogue (Latest Build).
Now it seems that the problem is or at least could be related to the storage card. It´s a common problem that sdhc-cards over 4gb won´t work as a android drive. so maybe anyone can try it with a card that fit the needs - i have only a 8gb model?
Good Luck and post every result!
I have tried vogue version on my raphael but it hangs on booting linux... 100% and i it hangs every time.
files are on phone not on sd card.

It is not a big surprise, because Raphael has a different CPU.

The SD controller on MSM7200 CPU is located in a different memory area
compared to the MSM7200A CPU.
Edited, I thought you meant a different processor than the G1.
Kinda stupid why people funny toil to try execute a linux on a wm6 device?decide whitch one uu want then buy... 4 my is awful idea have linux on my diamond pro no thx...
seeing forward to try android for this phone.

We need the G1 kernel source, and modules (if there would be some closed-source drivers). I have documented many (most?) MSM gpios,
the DRAM config is known too. I'm researching the Hitachi LCD setup
because G1 has a different panel, so it will be necessary to modify
the init/suspend routines.

Well, we don't post here that virtually everything from micro$oft sux, don't we ?
I'm not a big google fan, but fighting the monoculture is always a good thing.

Totally agree.
wm is the best mobile os at the moment unfortunately (if android is not counted), nokia's symbian just plainly.. eh, stinks. and so on.
Android would be really nice, waiting for it to raphael, even as a flashable rom! That would be so awesome! (we dont need WM to flash, it works straight from the bootloader, so why not!)

hi Ankit...
check this link..its from kaiser rom development...thought it might help us...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470649
This Kaiser port don't work on Gene. They have a different hardware.
The first thing needed to run Android is a kernel that support our hardware.
A good place to start is here. They have a kernel (linwizard) that may boot on our device.
oh....very nice thought..U all r doing great job....
carry on...
@ ramersonw
is it like emulation or it will boot directly ???
r u interested in it so we can make it possible
It's a kind of emulation. The kernel will run on wimo using Haret. The linwizard project has a version of Haret that works in the Gene processor(TI OMAP850). It's like a vmware prog.
To run linux on our device we have to:
1st. we have to make the Haret work with the processor of the gene (stable)
2nd. make the Linux kernel works with the hardware of the gene (write drivers for touch screen, cellular radio , bluetooth radio, etc)
If we have it, we can run Android, Opie, GPE any flavor of linux for mobile.
I'm very interested in port linux (Android) to gene, but is not an easy task and will also consume very much time.

count me in...i am ready
hi ankit
when you say `count me in' what implications does it have...hehehe just in case...
im also VERY interested in a faster stabler gene...and i feel linux is the way to go...BUT ive recetly used windows 7 on a dual boot with my vista system and i tell you it is FAST...in fact not only faster than vista but even XP on a 512 mb ram system!!!
...also i must admit it is MUCH slicker and faster than the LinuxMint 6.0 based on ubuntu 8.10 which i had running on my system!
...what im trying to say here is that if MSoft does to WM& what they have done to Vista in Windows 7, i think we r better off using WM7 than linux...for all practical purposes!

Not necessarily. Linux is probably the most stable OS after SCO, if I am not wrong. And it is also the most light weight OS as well. I guess you can run Linux on a P II 450 MHz system with all the goodies with fair speed . So imagine what it can do to your Gene .

Ya, Uske liye thindigit forum hi kafi hai, kyun ankit?
Linux vs Windows
Ofcourse, I don't have any intention, otherwise why would own to WM Devices ?
One of them would have been Moto Ming . What I was saying is since a few you guys (the real developers) are thinking about porting Linux to Gene, there is no point arguing about sticking to WM for the heck of it, come on you people are developers, and once you get your hands on source code, may be you will make it even better than WM! Hope you are getting my point (I am not a developer though).
any way to have the windows phone 7 or 8 maybe on evo3d or any android device or we will stay flashing android roms it is the same android but with a litle mods and launchers we have to flash new system like sailfish webos wp7 even meego y not

This is the second thread you've started today about alternative operating systems for the Evo 3D. Maybe you should have bought another phone if you don't like Android?

Try launcher 7..its good
"launcher8" is better IMO.
@neonlove Unless WindowsPhone OS become OPEN SOURCE then NO you can't get WP on your device.
Because Android is OPEN SOURCE you can see Android being ported to iPhone and even to WP phones.

To date, there has NOT been a single android device that has Windows Phone OR iOS to my knowledge. SailfishOS and FirefoxOS both are developed on Linux on which Android is also based and that's why it can be ported in a way.
However, a ROM that is actually based on android but is themed to look like iOS/WP is very much possible. I hope this answers your question
