if you go and follow the instructions below you will find Select option 04 (Vocoder) is not there.
there is a mibile P-Rev and you have a few options in that 6 default.
I have yet to make a test call after setting it to 9 but i dont think it will help as its not the Vocoder (that im trying to change)
My test caller said (before changing to 9) i sound voip'y Im coming from S2 on sprint. (clear as hell but cant make a call for its life)
any one know where the Vocoder is now hidden at?

Thumbs up Improve Call Quality - Hidden Menu Setting
DISCLAIMER: This post describes how to access the phone's hidden programming menu. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. The changes I describe have been used by many people with the Droid 1 and other Android phones.
I strongly recommend that you stay out of the other areas of this menu unless you know exactly what you are doing.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
This has been discussed many times over at DF, but I thought I'd share for those of you that weren't a Droid 1 convert and may not have seen this.
Pull up the dialer on your phone
Dial ##PROGRAM (##7764726)
Hit Send (the call button)
The password is 000000 (six zeros)
Select option 04 (Vocoder)
There are three options: 13K, EVRC (default), and EVRC-B
Choose EVRC-B and hit apply
Back out of the menu to your home screen
The phone will reboot on its own
This option uses a higher quality voice compression codec. The result should be an improvement of audio quality in calls. Some technical information about EVRC and EVRC-B can be found HERE.
TEST THIS AFTER IMPLEMENTATION.
EVRC-B, while available in most areas, is not available everywhere. If you find you are unable to place calls, go back into the menu and choose EVRC.
So, have you made a test call?
I think i have the same problem. Some people, not all of them, say that the sound is like microphone is a little bit wet, or i'm speaking pressed the microphone to the cheek, or that the sound is too "digital'. And i remember, that i had the same problem with milestone, on its first firmware, and it was solved later.
Just tried. I can't enter menu, my phone is just dialing this number.
bump because i love this thread

i found this thread which gives a clue, but couldn't find any codec or other outgoing mic settings
www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1755643-Android-*-*-menus-removed-on-Razr-and-Maxx
Can't open thread from howardforums. It says error.
I saw another ts post, where he says that he have a bad microphone. And I'm trying to understand is this a hardware problem, or just a provider differences.

I saw a tweak or something the other day that said to make the phone answer calls faster. Is there such a thing? I did a test call and it seemed to take about 4 to 5 seconds before my phone rang. Not sure if there is such a thing, but was just curious.
search for diamond tweak works well for me

in qpst change slot cycle index from 2 to 1
noob question. What is QPST?
Thanks Rob
QPST is the Qualcomm Product Support Tool. It's an application developed by Qualcomm for cellular phones that feature Qualcomm chipsets. It features a file explorer, factory test tools, low level communication settings, RF calibration tools, roaming list editor, service programming tool, and more.
The only issue I have with QPST is that it asks me to select a phone model, and none of them seems right....
just type in your dialer ##778 Code and enter your MSL code.. once in the programming go to Modem and slot cycle index..
##778 Send or maybe ##778# depending on which carrier your with.
I got to the slot cycle thing with ##778#, but it would allow me to change it from 2

you must have been in view mode.. you have to click on edit and enter your msl
how do i find my unlock code? also, can you explain exactly what slot cycle index changing to 1 does? i want to understand what's happening before i do it.
Here is a copy/paste from the PPCGeeks forum. Hope this helps.
"You can tweak your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) to make your phone poll the tower more often. This makes your texts and phone calls come through quicker. This setting is a trade off between lag (most noticeable when receiving calls) and battery life. The default value on our phones is 2. Every step of 1 adds 1.28 seconds to the poll time, so at a value of 2 it is only polling every 5 seconds or so. Most people lower this to 1, so the phone polls every 2.5 seconds. This won't affect battery life much in areas of good coverage, but may impact it noticeably if you're in a poor reception area. Your Access Overload Class (ACCOLC) determines your phone's priority on the cell tower. The higher the number, the lower the priority. Do note that 0 and 1 are reserved for emergency service uses, so DO NOT use these. You can ACCOLC's of 2-9, default on Sprint should be the last digit of your phone number."
ok, but what's my unlock code to change that?
Another option:
The HTC Dialer Skin on the is pretty.... slow to load, at least that's the consensus. Skywing gave us the following registry tweak:
In:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin
Set ext to \windows\PhoneCanvas.dll
Rename the DIALER/PROGRESS folders, possibly: oldDIALER/oldPROGRESS
This will give you the default WM Dialer Skin, which appears to load faster.
With this, you will lose your bluetooth icon from the taskbar, however everything functions properly. I believe you also lose the ability to adjust in-call volume..
htc dialer good, wm dialer bad lol
ok i got my MSL. thanks for the tweaks guys. they work great!
one question though. you say not to use 1 for ACCLOC (or whatever the f*@#ing acronym is lol) my buddies phone is set to 1. does that mean i can use 1 or should i leave it at 2?
My Access Overload Class is already on 0 on my new stock uncustomized yet 6850. Wiki seems to indicate that the system is only in use in Britain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACCOLC YMMV since I really know nothing about it.

Is there a fix and/or setting out for the muffled audio sound from the microphone? I thought my phone was defective, but my wife's phone sounds just as poor.
I thought that I could live with the poor microphone, but I can't. I'm getting tired of repeating myself. I miss my EVO.
Thanks,
John

I honestly haven't heard of anyone having this issue. I know a few people with this phone, me being one of them, and haven't heard or have any issues like that. I know its slim chance but maybe they are both defective....take it to a sprint store...can't hurt.
from the silencer of my shooter
Yeah, it's most likely something else, maybe reception. Try taking a video, or use the voice recorder. I've noticed video sound has been really good compared to the og evo.
Im taking in my phone today to see what is the issue. My wife and I both have the HTC EVO 3D, and the call quality really sucks. She has a hard time understanding me and vise vesa. Ive had the HTC Touch Pro, TP2, HTC Hero, and their call quality was amazing compared this his unit.
There have been some people posting that changing the voice codec (vocoder) on the phone helps, but I haven't done a lot of testing with it to say for sure.
I don't know off hand the original post with these directions so someone feel free to link but...
1) get your MSL - call sprint and ask nicely or search for other ways if you're rooted or feel confident to use a software to access your phone from your computer which could screw things up if you change something
2) dial ##DATA# (##3282# - same thing)
3) Choose EDIT MODE
4) Enter your MSL for the password
5) Choose Advanced
6) Change EVRC-B to enable
7) Change Home Orig to EVRC-B
8) Change Roam Orig to EVRC-B
From what I've read, EVRC-B may not work on roaming or airaves, so you may want to keep that on EVRC or just switch back if you have issues. I'm currently testing SVM which I read is newer than both EVRC and EVRC-B but I could be wrong and people have said they hear me clearer. Not sure if this one works everywhere though and I could be wrong in it being newer.
I DID read that 13K gives great quality, but is older, uses more bandwidth from the tower (bad for Sprint), and has more tendency to drop calls in weaker signal spots. Also read that glitches (pops, digital noise, etc) is more obvious using that one too.
See if that helps.
Thanks! I'm an going to try this out. I will let you know.

Has anyone been able to dial Sprint Support (*2 or 1-888-211-4727) while on EVRC-B?
When I switched to EVRC-B, I noticed that I couldn't call Sprint Support, whether I dialed *2 or 1-888-211-4727, either way it would always give me a message saying "Network is Busy, Please try again at a later time".
I ended up having to call Sprint from my home phone and I wasn't able to actually make a call to Sprint Support from my EVO 3D until I went back into the EPST Settings, disabled EVRC-B and switched Home and Roam Orig. back to EVRC.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Same here.
AND HERE!!
That's why I asked this question [Q] In-Call Voice Quality Better on Rooted EVO3D With Flashed ROMs?
I have had similar problems, nailed it down to this:
- handset and speakerphone work fine (for me), good audio quality in and out
- WIRED headset is the problem - mic gain is way too high, so sound is very muffled, but incoming sound is fine
- If I enable TTY mode, mic gain is reduced to the point where it is fine, people can hear me clearly, but incoming sound is very low (no good with any background noise at all...)
I restored factory settings (erased all my data), and initially the problem was fixed, but after setting up email, etc., problem has returned.
I am trialing Volume+, early on it seems okay, but the real answer is to fix the mic gain.
Is there a way to adjust the mic gain? I am on the Rogers network in Canada, some of the suggestions from the Sprint posts do not work for me...
I have reported the issue to HTC tech support but they had no solution (yet?)
Anybody have any suggestions?
I never had any luck finding a solution.

I have the same problem with my mic.
I haven't found a solution yet but somewhere on the web I found a thread about a Google nexus phone with a similar problem with the mic.
The guy there said that when he cleared the dalvic cache the problem disappeared.
I tried the same thing and for the first couple of calls it seemed to work.
But then all of a sudden the problem appeared again.
I've tried searching, but haven't found an answer, so here we go,
when I use the voice dialer to call someone that's already in my phonebook, it dials and calls properly, but if I try to call a place such as autozone or any other business by just saying, "call autozone," it finds the number and tries to call it but it puts a + in front of the phone number and never goes through. I have to end the attempt at calling and go back and edit the number to remove the + from it. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I'm running cm7x2 and haven't changed any performance settings.
Thanks, Curt
EDIT: it works now after a couple resets and sbfs later
is there an option to set speed dial for this phone?

Not in the sense that you long press a number on the dial pad.
Usual WP ways of doing it include
- "Recents" in people hub
- Pinning the people you want to dial a lot to your home screen
- Third-party speed dial apps

I found out today that there are voice commands for speed dial.
Turn on "Ease of Access" --> "Speech for phone accessibility" in Settings.
Then say "Save Speed Dial" - it will walk you through the process of setting a number.
To use, just say "Call Speed Dial 1" and it will dial the number associated with it.
There's an app called "Help + Tips" that comes with Nokia 920 - look at that. Many interesting gems there.

Also, just so you know, this is not a whole lot different from saying "Call contact name"
You can use that directly - without any setup.
The voice commands are activated by holding Windows (Home) button - long press.
Hell I use voice dial all the time. Why set up speed dial numbers?

I've developed an Xposed module to detect when diverted (forwarded) calls are incoming. This is the support thread for this module.
The module is available here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/ch.masshardt.divertedcall
Please report any problems in this thread.
Thanks for using your time to developed this.bi am so sorry but I have no idea what this mod does. Can you please explain a little better as I don't know what diverted means.
Thanks!
A diverted call is an incoming call that was forwarded from another phone. The problem is that the number that is displayed on the phone is the calling number and not the number of the phone the call was forwarded from. So the number could be from the local country but was forwarded from a phone in a different country and there is no way to see that. With this mod it is at least possible to display a message with Tasker when such a call is incoming.
There are also other threads about this problem:

Any chance you could give some further detail on how to set up within Tasker?
I've uploaded an example Tasker profile on pastebin: http://pastebin.com/G4FDZe4M
Just download the example and save it as an xml file on your phone. In Tasker the profile xml can be imported by short pressing the "PROFILE" tab in Tasker and selecting "Import".
Interesting module, but I'm not really sure what problem this app is trying to solve...
When I receive a call that was diverted I'm being shown the original callers number with a text "forwarded call" below it - but that may be due to my use of CM?
However the 2 problems I do have with diverted calls can't be addressed with this mod afaict:
- In call log there's no indication whether a call was forwarded
- Different ringtone can't be set as the standard ringtone is played by Phone app and I could use tasker only to play an additional one but not replace it.
It's actually really cool if it works as I think it does. I've been getting a lot of random calls recently, all telemarketer. (Yay me)
Over half of them have my hometown's area code, but I know they are not actually that number from research. My phone at least does not say anything about it being a forwarded call. It would be nice to have an idea if they are actually a telemarketer calling or a friend that I had lost his number.
It depends on the rom that is running on the device. Google did not implement this notification in their source code, but some roms added this feature. E.g. on my Sony device I only receive a toast message for about 2 seconds that the call was diverted. Most of the time it takes more than two seconds until I notice that the phone is running so this notification doesn't help much. Also with the intent it is possible to do other things. For instance the phone could be muted or unmuted when such a call is incoming. I for an example use the plugin to unmute the phone when a diverted call is incoming if I am in charge of my office's 24/7 hotline. For this it would be really cool if also the redirecting number could be reported, but I don't think that this information is available in the 3g protocol.

As the person who created that issue in 2009, thanks for this module
Haven't quite got it to work yet in tasker yet though!
great idea .... thanks for update ....
Any updates on this whether it works before i purchase Tasker from Google Play
Thanks.
You can also use this with other apps than Tasker. Everything that supports Android Intent's should work.
@Thenetstriker
Hi, I'm trying to use this module.
I tried with tasker and e-robot but is working only one time (only for the first event).
If i reboot the phone is working again for the firs event but not the others following.
Any idea?
Tks.
problem
Thanks for your effort!
I meet the same problem with @mbgheban, "It is working the first time. If i reboot the phone, it work again for the first event but not the others following. Tasker cannot receive any more intent".
I am using android 6.0.
---------- Post added at 02:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:47 PM ----------
Moreover, only ver1.1 can work at the first event. Version 1.0 didn't work even the first time.
What's the difference between these versions?
unrooted?
did anyone find a way to get a notification without rooting the phone?
I am using a S8 which is showing a forwarded call notification but of cause too short...
