Amaze contacts stop working if more than 5000 contacts - HTC Amaze 4G

Both my wife and I have Amazes and both of us have the same problem: in caller Id and messages, the contacts become unlinked from the phone number. So someone calls or texts and I have no idea who it is even though the contact is in the address book.
If I'm in messages I can click the phone number and it will find the contact.
The only thing I can think of is that we both have lots of Google contacts. Anyone else with 5000+ contacts?

Who really has over 5000 contacts? Seriously? I hate Facebook!

Thanks for the useless feedback. I don't use Facebook at all. At all. So, bite me.
I have over 5000 Google contacts. I've been using Gmail for years and they add up.

Can't be any worse!
It's annoying that Sense downloads all the contacts, THEN applies the filter. I can't remember if stock Android does that, but I seem to remember that it only downloads the selected contacts, and leaves the rest on the server.

Lol, sorry i cant help, but seriously, how in the hell do u have over 5000 contacts!? Only solution i can think of, unless you really stay in contact with all 5000 people, is do some cleaning up and delete the ones u don't need...

via xda premium

I had about 2000 from Gmail. Now I have over 4000 Google+ followers. That's 6000 Google contacts.
They are properly labeled so that I can easily filter to the 200 or so that I actually contact. However, Sense still downloads all of them to the phone before applying the filter.
I love boards where the only replies you get to valid questions are from people who tell you you're stupid for having the problem in the first place. What a complete waste of time.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk

riprowan, i would suggest you to backup your address book, then delete Contacts and start loading them back from the backup little by little to see if quantity is really the issue or something else

That's a great idea, but how? I have 6000 contacts in Google. Apart from deleting 5800 of them, I don't think there is a way to only get a subset to download. I already have groups set up, and I only have one group selected - about 200 contacts - but I believe they're still all downloaded to the phone (the phone downloads them all but only displays the selected groups)

Dude chill.... you gotta admit at first note 5000+ contacts....wtf???
oh riiiiight facebook , google+ etc.....
not flamin ya , laugh with it.
probably a limit on your contacts, simple as that. Maybe it'll change with ics sense3.5/4.0 update.
There is ALSO the possibilty they designed the phones that way on purpouse so spammers cant spam ya, like some kind of politco aoutodialer or something.
Maybe you should make an ap for people who have millions of friends?
Perosnally I think social networking is fkn evil and its really a social experiemnt to see how far people are willing to be controlled and give up their privacy.
Hope you find your solution, sorry I cant help ya out.

Y r u getting so upset. i was giving u an honest suggestion. Sorry for trying to help u. My phone doesnt sync my g+ friends/followers, only my contacts. Why do u have people synced that "follow" u on G+
Sent from my NRGized Amaze...

In Contacts, I have only one Google group selected (my Friends group which has about 200 people in it). It's been set up like that since before I got the amaze. I don't have all of my G+ contacts on my phone.
However, I believe that Sense still downloads all of them to the phone. It just hides the ones you haven't chosen to view.
My experience is that, once my total number of Google contacts went over 5000, the phone broke. Without caller id in the phone or messages, the phone is pretty useless.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk

Aj_2423 I appreciate your feedback. As I said before, short of deleting 5800 contacts from Google, I can't selectively limit the number of contacts downloaded to the phone.

What if you wipe and reflash ROM/Kernel, then during setup, uncheck the box that syncs your Google contacts... Then maybe you can sync the ones you want?
No need to get all butt hurt about the picture of the joints either... Get the sand out of your crotch and lighten up. If its a useless board, then quit checking it and find your answer somewhere else. Take your sour grapes and your 5000 friends elsewhere and learn to take a joke

Im gonna try to get a list together tomorrow. Chances are that Ill be listing or uploading the files that remain in the /system/app folder.
I also search for a term in the filenames of things I delete. For example, in /system/app, Ill delete everything associated with the calendar. Then at the root(\), Ill search for calendar and delete those files/folders as well. I use root explorer.

Significant battery drop

View attachment 1066540
Hi I'm curious from what I heard ics was supposed to improve battery life but I'm wondering is anyone else having a significant battery drop like this?
I use autokill memory optimizers and system tuner to under clock to 1188 but it has 2 CPU's and the second one rings 345 to 1508 I can't control the second one? Or **** it down or something? Cause my battery barely last me 4 hours

i flashed the new rom update after a wipe and again no data do i gotta do that ext.jar file thing again?
You have it underclocked so the Second core is working overtime to keep the system up. What you should do is keep everything stock. Don't use any killers and uninstall System Tuner would be my suggestion.

--------------------------------------------------------------
If you ask stupid question, be prepared to get a sarcastic reply.
no
Did you uninstall the Task Killers? And did you reset the CPU Speed back to stock? After a few good battery calibrations....letting the battery drain then recharge to 100% ... You should wipe batt stats. It gives me a really nice uptime. I use my phone way too much for me to have only 4 hrs. If that was the case I'd need 4 spare batteries. Good luck on getting your issue resolved.
Also you could have a defective battery. I know it might be new but it still can be defective from the factory.

Voice over from incoming calls and emails

So my note recently has started to announce the names of incoming calls. I hear my ringtone as I normally would, and about 3 seconds into the ringtone, the android "gps voice" speaks the name aloud. At first it startled me, but then I actually liked the feature because I do screen my calls at times and it is helpful when my phone is out of reach. Now however, it has been doing the same thing with my emails. The bad thing is that it decides to do it randomly while I'm at work when my phone is on silent. While on silent, my phone will just "speak" and say "you have 2 new emails" while i'm at work. The email voice has only happened twice so far, but I do not want it to happen again. I did notice that it occurred when my media volume was on...not sure if it is linked to this or if it was just coincidence. Anyone else have this issue or know how to stop it? I figured this was not normal since it did not occur when I first got the phone, and it just activated randomly...

I have used eCID for a couple years. Works for calls, sms, mms, email, calendar, and google talk. It will even read your messages if you so want it to. I used it with loquendo TTS which has been by far the best TTS. But I have to give Samsung credit as Samsung TTS does very well too. But loquendo is still a touch above.

Rom suggestions

Top of the morning all. I wanted a few suggestions on which Rom I should go with. I have had my Note for a couple of days and I already have it rooted and installed CWM. I'm not exacly sure what I want out of the Rom though. I know how install roms, but I'm still a noob when it comes to them.
It all comes down to user preference
No ROM is better then another
Try them all
Literally lol
There is no disappointment with these ROMs
Some are complete but others like MiUi and CM10 still have a couple things broken
Read read read read and read before flashing and YouTube videos and tutorials so you have an idea of what you're doing and do things right
Good luck and have fun flashing!

I'll probably end up going with Black Star V. No particular reason though lol. It was the first one I saw. I just want the bloatware gone. That's usually the first thing I look for. I'll do the Tether Hack and then add themes and I'm good to go. It's already running fast enough for my liking so no need for me to overclock or anything. I'm 100% noob still. I'll actually read them all this time around. When I had my Droid X I was on the same Rom for like a year because it was good enough for me. I'm like if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Look for thread counts and ratings. That tells you what is more popular and so it is an indicator of what is good. Like JayRokk stated, try several and you will see what is good for you.

It has built in call recording. If it had built in blacklisting it'd be the perfect phone.
If you just love chrome, any of the ics or cm9 ones will do. They are all about the same... Kind of boring.

Abt the same?
Which one is not boring? if it's theme bling you're after just get a blinged out case... I want function.
Hence my recommending saurom. It does what the others fail to. Make your phone a worthwhile investment. Makes the phone alone better.
What's the deal with the way ugly preschool looking contacts on ics and cm9 ROMs?

All I need to know is what does it do.
If it places calls and surfs the web. So did my Nokia. Heck android has file managers! Though seldom in a packaged rom. That's great.
I'm just not into themes. My ringtone is a 1950 telephone.

Lol is that not the real reasons for a smart phone, web, emails, txt and make calls?!? All else just extra, right.

CM9 official is the safest choice for original android experience, just went stable.
Fjmod uclf6 for debloated stock experience, add phmod for galaxy s3 flavor.
Everything else is more or less a derivative of these two. No real difference.
I wouldn't recommend cm10 yet, in a few months it would be THE rom to have however.

Yeah. A killer phone with a PDA. It took forever and a million of us new it was coming 15 years ago... who thought Newton's company would be a major player?
But a killer phone is a must.

this did not work. is there anything else out there??? thanks for your reply though.
If u mean retrieving a text that is deleted from your phone? No, this is not possible. Unless you back up your texts every night with an app like SMS backup, then ur screwed.

no. i still have the text message. i just need it out of my phone to my pc to print it out or email it.
Just take a screen capture.. Hold volume down and press the power button at the same time. Then it's saved in your gallery.
Then you can email it,print it,frame it or what ever. I would also like to see this text message too.. I'm just curious by nature lol.

I get the vibe he wants to safely save it for possible use in the future... I have my Co workers backs and would never do something like that but hey not everyone is like me I suppose.

I'm not black mailing anyone. I was fired for false accusations and the guy who is texting back and forth with Mr a report against me and says he feels tricked into making the report. So via text he as told.me he was tricked and the report he made was false. I was fired for nothing and to clear my name I need these texts from him. Thanks for assuming the worst of someone you don't even know.

Make sure to lock your message thread as not to accidentally erase it.

Jeez I said I get the vibe. Not that you were definitely trying to wrong someone and then gave my opinion on my assumption... Sometimes I feel like you can't say anything around here anymore.. Anyways good luck, sorry you lost your job and hopefully you can clear your name.

maybe his co-worker is trying to pin something on him and he has proof in his texts that he's clean. they would want physical proof not merely showing him the phone to save for posterity in their files.
Yes. Thank you all. I have shown my phone. But they do want proof. Im trying all options given. Thank you all for your responses. Both neg and pos
