My i777 is stuck at the (Phone)... (!)...(Computer) screen and it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Can anyone help me get it back up and going? Ive searched forum and have seen nobody with this problem. Thanks in advanced!!

What did you do just so I know never to do that?

See if you can get into download mode this way:
Remove the battery. With the battery still out, hold Vol- and Vol+ buttons while plugging in the usb cable. The pc will provide the power.
If it goes into download mode, flash back to stock or another rom if you have a tar.

I was flashing back to stock using Odin and I bumped my phone and it came disconnected (maybe a short in the usb?) Next time I will be leaving the room while I'm doing it! lol. I finally got it to boot into download mode but when i run Odin one click it gets hung at cache.img and when i run regular odin it gets hung at setupconnection for a while before saying Can't open the serial(COM) port. Hope this will help someone help me! Thanks guys!
Sup, the OP is my buddy IRL and I have been helping him get this going. Thought I could add more info since I am more familiar with this stuff. [See what happens when you show off ICS to your buddies... .]
I don't know HOW the phone got where it is, but here is what is up now...
When you turn the phone on normally-
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
When you try to enter into a CWM bootloader, it does not go. [He says he rooted the phone a long time ago before he tried to get started on installing a custom ROM, but doesn't remember what pack. So I am not sure if it was ever really rooted or ever contained CWM.]
When you enter Download Mode-
Tried running 0din regular. 0din recognizes it, yet you try to flash a "root pack" it hangs on flashsys.cfg and says "CACHE" next to the COM port.
Running OneClick 0din by Creepy, it stalls on cache.img
The download Mode says "NO" on flash counter and has the right phone model. I think the warranty will still be good. But I'd like to try and save it.
I feel like the phone has no bootloaders on it at all. But I don't know how to push bootloaders [all 3] onto the phone. I don't know if it is even possible with 0din not even working.
I am lost...

If the phone is showing any signs of life then most likely the bootloaders are fine.
And whether it has stock recovery or cwm recovery - recovery is built into the kernel not the bootloaders - for cwm you will see a cwm recovery version number or for stock recovery you will see 3e for the recovery version number.
If you are getting into download mode and getting an aborted flash then you are close and the problem likely is with either the version of Odin, or the computer you have, or possibly you have a corrupted firmware package - one of these is more likely the issue - if you are able to get into download mode your bootloaders are probably fine.

Try redownloading the Odin one click package just incase the first was a corrupt download.
Also make sure Odin is showing com port is connected just before flash once the phone is in download mode and connected.

yes We got Com ports connected on both the one-click and the regular 0din.

he is bringing it to my computer to try and flash. his USB ports might be broken.
Try flashing just the siyah kernel only via Odin using the tar ball.
ok... just did that. i noticed since i got the phone in my posession that the problem is with the USB connection on the phone... its lose. tried alchohol to clean contacts and didnt help. i have to hold the cable a certain way to get it to flash...
anyways, i flashed Siyah and it flashes all the way, phone restarts... shows android guy with unpacking bag, looks like it will install, then tries to boot. on boot it shows galaxy s2 and yellow triangle.
download mode still boots, but now has a 1 count.
now what?

If you got the siyah kernel to flash you should have working cwm recovery, try to get into recovery and do a factory reset then see if it will boot up all the way.
Also, if you now know how to hold the usb cable you can carefully attempt to flash back to stock with the Odin one click from creepy's thread.

Oh and I have a t989 and I saw the i9100 screen and shat bricks because I am like pavlovs dog trained on not to EVER see i9100 on my phone. Then I remembered, different phone.
You can use a jig to remove the 1 count and I9100 boot screen. You can also install ICS, and then use codeworkx Triangle Away app.

I have CWM 3.0.8, and want to get back to the red recovery, so that I can flash a new rom on my fascinate. The problem is, that I can not for the life of me get my phone to show up on Odin. I have tried on two different computers. I have used Odin on both computers for this phone, so the drivers are all installed. Any ideas? The rom I have now is a force close nightmare. I would like to get back to something that is stable.

I got the phone in download mode, connected to the computer through the usb cable, but can not get the yellow "added" dialog in odin so that I can flash the .tar file...
Thanks for the help so far,

Maybe a stupid question but do you have Odin open before you plug the phone in.

You can also try to reinstall drivers or even odin check to see that you have odin 3 1.3 and maybe reinstall odin it can be found here in one of the forums.
I have tried it both ways, going into download mode, then opening odin, and first opening odin, then going into download mode.
Now, I have another problem. I was able to do a data wipe, which stopped the force close loop. I was then able to get my phone workable at least. Then, while resetting everything, I dropped it on my coffee table and the touch screen will not respond. The phone's soft keys work fine and i can turn it on, but have to do a battery pull to turn it off. I have tried turning off/rebooting, and again doing a data wipe. I don't know what else to do other than take it in, but I don't think that is possible since it is rooted
Hi Everyone,
Need help with my I9100 which doesn't boot. I got this phone yesterday and was using it fine. Today i installed Kies and it prompted to upgrade firmware. I researched and found that it had improvements in battery life and decided to go for it. It downloaded the firmware and everything went fine until it prompted saying firmware upgrade failed and asked me to do firmware emergency recovery.
I googled to see more info regarding this error and couldnt get much information. Decided to go ahead with recovery as instructed. Again i got error " Firmware emergency recovery stopped due to GT-I9199 error". If the problem persistes please contact samsung service center.
Please suggest if this is recoverable error and any links to proceed and have a working phone.
Currently when i power on, i get a logo of phone connected to PC with yellow bang in middle. Any pointers much appreciated....
Thanks.
Don't worry, I think you can fix this yourself using ODIN. I mean, flash a custom rom through Download mode. (Turn the phone off, hold Volume Down + Home + Power for 4 seconds)
In this mode you can flash any kind of rom without doing your phone any harm. Just go to the Rom Development forum and choose your rom. I suggest Lightning Rom, because it uses ODIN, and has a very well-explained tutorial.
You can also flash a stock rom, you can get it from the Stock Rom thread, and flash that through ODIN.
Or get it fixed by Samsung and wait two weeks. (where they use exactly the same program, ODIN, to reflash the stock rom)
Look here
And here
And finally here
If all that doesn't work, take it back to samsung.
Also, KIES is a PoS, use Odin in future
Yep, KIES may look all official and reliable, but it actually seems to brick some SGS2's.
Thanks for the info's. Will try them and update soon.
No luck. I tried multiple times to update ROM using ODIN in download mode. Everytime it says NAND write operation failed and comes out. I am searching to see if any other option left before i take it back to samsung
Don't forget to try it with a different computer. Sometimes it's not the phone, it's the PC or the USB port.
Also, you can try flashing with Heimdall instead of Odin.
First of all;
Yellow triangle means you are running custom kernel/rom.
Press home+volume down and then power, to get into download mode , on your phone. If that works, take battery out, to stop it.
Go to:
Samfirmware.com
Download firmware from there. It is a rar file, I think. Open rar file to see what is in. 5 files? The biggest file has all of the other files in it.
Install via Odin. Select pda in Odin and select the biggest file from the rar.
Put your phone into download mode, connect usb and run Odin.
Adrian.

You can buy a usb jig, specially designed to put you phone into download mode. Search for it on ebay. Take the battery out, plug in usb jig, replace battery and it should boot into download mode. If it does not, then the phone is dead.

my t-mobile galaxy s2 is dead after ICS upgrade failed
i am noobi. my galaxy s2 went through 2 stages before becoming dead.
1. i tried to flash I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar using odin. it got stuck in connection mode. then failed. when rebooted the phone, i got a message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue".
2. now, odin still sees it. I tried different ROMs then the phone becomes dead. the phone is dead even after pressing the vol up+vol dn or any other key combination.
Now, windows 7 reports driver error when connecting the phone via usb. Linux sees the Qualcom modem, but heimdall failed to detect the phone. Any suggestion beside throwing my phone in trash is appreciated.
If you can't get into download mode (home/power/volume down), only thing you can try before you send it back to Samsung or get it JTAG repaired is a jig, which unfortunately is unlikely to work. Still worth a try tho.

I had the Exact same problem as you this is what you need to do.
1. Take everything out of your phone micro sd ,sim battery
2.Get your Usb Port and connect the first side to your pc but not to the phone
3.Insert Battery
4.Hold the vol down butt and at the same time connect the Other side of the cable into the phone then you will see
DOWNLOAD MODE!!!!!
5.From there install your sock rom again using samfirmware.com
6.Done
Hello guys,
I own an unlocked, unbranded SGS3 I9300 on the O2 UK network. Samsung Kies happily advised me of a new update for my phone so I went ahead and started to update. This is my first smartphone where I haven't rooted it or flashed an unofficial ROM, every ROM I have used has been downloaded and updated through Samsung Kies.
This time it failed...
It gave me a generic SGS3-I9300 error code. I turned my phone off and back on again, and it displayed the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." error. Plugged my phone back in, ran Kies, started the emergency recovery... it was taking a long time. It reached 19%. I left it for about 45 minutes and it shot up to 47%. A while later, 53% and I went to bed, leaving it on. Woke up in the morning to find that the emergency recovery had failed at 59%. So this morning I have attempted to start the recovery process again... and it has been stuck at 0% (after confirming that I wish to recover) for over 30 minutes now.
As far as I understand it my next step is to install Kies on another computer and attempt emergency recovery from there. Is that correct? If that fails or is not the next course of action, what is?
2013 has not been a great year for technology for me so far and heck, I've flashed custom ROMs, rooted and HSPL'ed all of my previous phones and cannot recall having a problem but I decide to use the official program and the official updates and this happens? Luck of the draw.
Next course of action is to install a custom recovery, and then flash a custom rom.
Seriously.
If you prefer stock though, I think there are stock roms out there which can be flashed via CWM or Odin. Should be there in the dev forums.
Try a different computer. If it doesn't work, download a stock rom and flash with Odin.

You don't need to be rooted. Can you enter recovery mode (vol up + home + power, then release power after logo comes up), then do a wipe.
Try flashing with a different pc, also run odin as an administrator.

Hello
My situation goes as follows: I'm on a Cyanogenmod 11 nightly, as I flash a new ROM from time to time. So I know how to get into recovery and that kind of things. I've installed TWRP recovery, instead of the CWM one. I'm on a mac by the way.
As I was a little bit fast, I accidentally rebooted into download mode instead of recovery. Now my phone remains that way, only without the info in the top left (normally it says ODIN Mode and four other lines of information).
I tried to get the battery out and to drain the battery, both gave the same result: it booted in "downloading... do not turn off target !!"
I tried ODIN, Kies, Heimdall and adb trough terminal, and even the CM installer; none of these things seemed to recognize my phone.
I've been googling for over two hours now and I'm getting desperate. Is my phone ready for the bricks? I can't go to a shop tomorrow as it is the national holiday in Belgium. So still 32 hours of trying ahead of me...
Any ideas? If you guys have any additional questions, please ask.
Thanks in advance

Are you familiar with the PC flashing tool Odin? It's specifically for Samsung devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...08-2013-odin-3-09-odin-1-85-versions-t2189539
Download and install Odin onto your PC it will flash a stock image onto your device (No root, Stock recovery)
http://www.sammobile.com
Head to Sammobile and download your ROM firmware specific to your device.
Run ODIN on your computer and connect your phone.
When it recognizes it, check "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time".
Everything else should be left unchecked.
On your computer, unzip the ROM file you downloaded. It should give you something with the extension of
.tar.md5
Press "PDA" on ODIN and select this file.
Everything should be as shown here: http://gyazo.com/fea7a1c8b7a7b5bb287fb0a0c70056dc
Click Start and wait for it to do it's thing. It'll take quite a few minutes.
When it's finished, you're done.
If it hangs on boot ones it flashed, reboot to Stock Recovery and do a factory reset it should boot up fine now, (also 1st boot takes about 3 minutes.)
Let me know how it goes
