[Q] Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman (wt19i) issue while flashing ROM - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I've got a problem, but I'm not sure if it's been addressed anywhere else on here, I've searched through several pages. I've found a situation that was similar, but not the same. So I'm putting it out there, and hoping someone will solve it:
I've got a Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman (WT19i)
I rooted my phone, unlocked it's bootloader, and flashed a ROM; everything went well until it rebooted. Now I'm stuck at the point where the "Sony Ericsson" logo is shown, i've been stuck there for almost 30 minutes now.
Any help possible? Any at ALL would be MUCH appreciated.

What ROM are you trying to flash on your phone?
Did you checked first if the Bootloader was actually unlocked?
Did you flash a custom kernel thru fastboot?

Custom ROM needs custom kernel.

I was trying to flash HYBROM.
Bootloader was unlocked for sure as I had installed Coconut previously, which also requires bootloader unlock.
No worries though; i solved my problem. I flashed an older firmware, along with a bootload relocker, with Flashtool. Now my phone has switched on, to my stock ROM. Still no clue how to flash hybrom ROM as it caused the same problem even after wiping dalvik cache and all other data (which was the solution provided by dev)

Okay, please help me understand: What is a custom kernel and how do i install it? Everywhere I've looked there's been no mention of the need for a custom kernel

check first page of hybrom thread
Installation instructions
Needs unlocked bootloader
(actually hybrom does not contain a boot image. Thus, when you install hybrom you don't mess with your boot image at all.BUT recovery from nAa is installed in /system and while system is formated during the installation of hybrom, recovery messes with it self. That's why unlocked bootloader and a custom kernel with recovery is necessary for now to install hybrom)

I did not deny that a custom kernel is needed, I wanted to know how to flash/use a custom kernel?

To flash a custom kernel you need to have flashtool (sticky thread on the dev section) so:
1.- you download the custom kernel (it is a boot.img file)
2.- open flashtool
3.- connect your phone to your computer while the phone its off and you are holding the volume up key without releasing it the notification led should turn on blue.
4.- if the phone it's not recognized go to the flashtool folder and install the drivers located on the drivers folder once it is done repeat step 3 and it should be recognized.
5.- once your device it's connected click the thunderbolt icon on flashtool in the new screen select fastboot mode and continue.
6.- in the new screen click on select kernel to flash and browse to the boot.img you downloaded.
7.- check the flashtool log to make sure everything is fine if it is you are good to go.
Hope it helps.

Thankyou, this does help. One last question: Are there several different custom kernels? Does WHICH kernel i get matter, or is any kernel usable on any phone?

Depending on the ROM, you want to install, you need correct kernel.
CM ROMs work only with FXP kernels, included in their topic.
MIUI ROMs have only specific kernels also, included in their topic.
Stock-based ROMs(XROM, Hybrom) work with Rage Kernel, X Kernel, bbooff's kernel, all these are in Development section, just search.

Glad to be helpful anything else just let us know.

Thanks very much!

I have a live with walkman from 3 etwork. the bootloader is locked. can I still flash hybrom 16 through CWM?

check service menu,
confirm if bootloader can be unlocked.
it should state "bootloader unlock allowed : yes".
after unlocking bootloader then there will be no problem installing hybrom
check this thread for more info about unlocking bootloader.

No. You must have unlocked bootloader. Also, for Hybrom, you must install custom kernel also.

[Q] Trying to unlock bootloader xperia x10 mini pro

Hi all, been trying all night to unlock the bootloader following the guide on the cynaogenmods wiki page ( found here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Mini_Pro:_Full_Update_Guide )
Sadly however, i seem to fail when getting to the 4th and 5th step of the guide as what is supposed to happen doesnt happen at all when pressing and holding down the Volume Up button aswell as connecting the USB-cable to the computer on the same time.
this is the things and steps i've done and tried:
1) Tried diffrent buttons then the Volume Up button, like Back button, Menu button and the # button
2) tried having the USB cable connected to the computer first, then plug in the usb cable to the phone while pressing and holding down Volume Up button, also tried with diffrent buttons while doing this, aswell as doing vice-versa (having the USB connected to the phone first, and connecting it to the computer)
So what is the result of all this? the phone only gets into charging mode, and that's about it, either a green or orange LED starts to show aswell.
Some things worth mentioning:
I used to have a very old version of sonybread with CWM (clockwork mod) but before begining the guide i totally cleaned my phone and even re-flashed it to stock rom with SEUS, so currently my phone is using the stock rom without root and a locked bootloader (as far as i know about the bootloader atleast) and currently the phone is working as intendeed with the stock rom, but in all honesty it sucks using it and therfore i'm trying to put in a stable version of Cynaogenmod.
Also i never managed to get the fastboot comand terminal to work fully when launching it from Android\android-sdk\tools as it missed several comands, so in order to actually get the fastboot to work as intendeed i had to launch it from Android\android-sdk\platform-tools which was the fastboot that came with the SDK and not the one downloaded from the wiki's guide on how to get fastboot.
Something more worth mentioning is that it seems like the device manager can't find the phone while being in charging mode or when i do the "Volume Up button" and connect the USB to the computer thingy, however the phone shows up in device manager if its being started up or is being on.
I do however hear the "a USB connected sound" everytime i connect the phone in any way i've tried when it gets to charging mode, but then it never shows up on device manager.
And last but not least, i'm running a x64 W7 Professional machine.
Sorry for such a long thread, but want to try to explain my problem as troughly as possible aswell as everything i've tried in order to rule out as many other problems aswell.
hey friend.... that post is for mini pro not x10 mini pro...... to connect in flash mode you have to press the back button and then connect the phone via USB..... be sure u have SE tweaker tool for X10 mini pro and Drivers along with GORDON gate driver......
And to add to that the 2010 devices do NOT support fastboot, so it is no wonder it didn't work properly.
And if you tried the bootloader unlockers for the 2011 MiniPro you're just lucky your attempts failed
Try it following these instructions

I see, thanks for the quick reply.
I've decided to scrap the unlocking bootloader thing as it seems to be way more complicated then i tought. i will just stick with using the stock rom untill i get a new phone as this one his toally horrible with the stock rom.
If any mod can mark this question thread as solved and prehaps lock it if necessary it would be good, thanks.

You don't have to stick with stock firmware, in the x10miniPro development section there are a lot of roms based on gingerbread android that will run fine on the stock kernel choose one to your liking.
There's a very clean rom called Clean0.0 v6 you definitly have to check out.

No that is total rubbish you posted
Not every custom rom needs an unlocked bootloader, you only need an unlocked bootloader if you want to install a custom kernel.
If you choose a rom that will run on the stock kernel, you only need root and either cwm or xrecovery, depending on the installation method of the rom you chose.
If a rom runs only on a custom kernel, then the installation will be done through CWM, because that's what is included in the kernel, on stock kernel you might be ok with xrecovery.

Hi I have an Xperia X10 mini pro with the code 11W25. I want to use the latest MiniCM7 custom rom (I think its MiniCM7-2.2.2) and the powerful nAa 2.6.29-14 kernel to breathe new life to this obsolete stock SE 2.1 firmware. I've been seeing posts saying codes below 11W29 is safe to unlock bootloader. I just want to make sure because I want to unlock it with confidence. Is it safe to unlock the device with the code 11W25?
I've posted this question in the X8 unlock bootloader guide and they said the rules mentioned there is not applicable to X10 mini pro. My X10 mini pro can use different SIM Cards, I mean its not locked to a certain network provider. I received it here in Manila from abroad One more thing, if I wanted to go back to stock, I can use SE PC Companion and it will bring back stock firmware and kernel right? Will it relock bootloader too? I've been watching these videos from youtube doing a guide on how to unlock bootloader and installing the nAa kernel in this youtube channel called minicyanogen(mod)
thanks in advance long live xda =)

Locked Bootloader (ROMS)

Currently have a rooted XMP SK17i that has a bootloader that I cannot unlock meaning I miss out on all of the kernels. I presume not, but does this mean that I cannot flash any kernel at all?
My main question is that since I have a locked bootloader, I need a ROM that is good on the RAM etc. Currently that is the Real ICS r5.1 which I am thinking of updating however I was wondering if anyone had any quicker ICS ROMs that were good on the CPU and RAM. Ones that are just as good on locked bootloaders as unlocked ones.
Any help is appreciated
Rom for unlocked bootloader is always better than rom for locked bootloader because it can utilize all the power of a costum kernel. I would suggest you to try Real ICS r5.2 (it's the newest version), because it has some kind of ram management script running. I am on locked bootloader too, and I use Real ICS r5.2 with no problems
Real ICS r5.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1707876
Real ICS r2 LITE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739569
Both of these work on Locked bootloader, but I would suggest you to go with the first one.
Cheers

You should be on ics first to flash it. And did you wipe all or just the necessary things? Flash the stock rom again like in this tutorial.

Okay you have cwm recovery. To flash ics roms, you should be on ics first. So just root and upgrade like explained here.
If you are on rooted ics, download the zip of the rom and copy to sd card.
Boot in cwm and select backup/resotre -> backup and back up your current rom.
Now you must look in the installation tutorial, what has to be formatted (like system or data or just do a factory reset, that's explained).
Now choose "install zip from sd card" -> "choose zip" and choose the zip file to install it. After installation normally just reboot.
Make sure before installing, you downloaded the right zip file for your phone model. If there is no specific zip to download, there should be an installation assitangt built in, called "Aroma installer". There you navigate with the volume keys and the home button to select. Just choose your phone model and that the bootloader is locked.
After that everything should be fine

There were quite a few posts about this problem in the general forum. If none work, then just keep on flashing .62 firmware around 25-30 times.
If that doesn't work, then you will have to take it to sony for a screen replacement. Even I had flashed gingerzruzt for lww on my st15i and had the same problem. I got a free screen replacement by relocking my bootloader and flashing the stock rom. Good luck and be sure to try all the methods.

Is your bootloader unlocked? If yes then flash a kernel which has CWM embedded in it. As for the usb debugging, you will have to find some way to get the rom to your sd card.

Then if your phone is within the warranty period, flash .587 ics stock firmware and take it to Sony as soon as possible. They replaced my touch screen entirely for free. If your warranty is over, then I suggest that you unlock your bootloader and flash a kernel that has cwm so that you can at least try out some of the fixes mentioned above or in the general forum.
Don't worry. Follow this from step 8 - http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Make sure that you android-sdk installed with platform-tools and google usb drivers. You should be good to go!

For this you will need Flashtool and Xperia drivers intalled on your PC. (Installing Sony PC companion will do)
Well, what you need to do is download the kernel of previous version. I have attached a file but I am not sure if its the old version. (.10)
Flash FTF of your desired STOCK rom ICS via Flashtool.
Flash kernel of any version before 6.1.1.b.1.54 .
Root it using the file attached.
And you are done!
Make sure the USB tethering is ON in Settings >development !

NO, but don't worry.
Is your bootloader unlocked?
if not, this must be the reason.
if ýou have unlocked bootloader then,
Flash kernel again and root it using .10.
I am thinking you must have disconnected the phone in the middle.
Were you on administration when you tried to flash it ?
You must give administration rights to run the programme.
Were the drivers properly installed ?
A screen came and said to restore and then you didnot disconnect your phone till the programme asked you to ?
Have you followed instructions properly ?
IF all this doesnot work, Flash FTF of ICS of any ICS you like . Root it again !
I have rooted my phone so many times with the file i sent !
And you are using the option 1 when it asks you to root. You are rooting a mobile and not a tablet.
If anything you need to ask, I be writing you back!

Hi again, I still haven't tried rooting since I don't have bootloader unlocked.
I tried following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
But when I went to verify if I can unlock my phone's bootloader it says No. Do I have to follow another tutorial? Or is it impossible?

As I suspected, your phone has come with locked bootloader. This means that Sony will not support your phone to be unlocked. The reason simply is they do not want to give out cheap phones so you can use any other sim on your phone. However, you can only run roms which support locked bootloader and you can not experiment much with your phone as it will brick your device. There are quite few roms which support locked bootloader. Further, the tutorial is simply from Sony and thus will not work for your phone!

OK, one last thing, I found this rom (it says that works with locked bootloader): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=194647
But in the instructions it says to flash it via CWM (I know that it's a custom recovery), I searched and the tutorials I found either ask for root or unlocked bootloader.
The text file attached in OP doesn't help much as I am not able to know which FW are you using.
I assume that the FW is greater than B.1.10 which Is why u are facing problems while rooting as the FW used in the guide in OP is B.1.10.
FYI, B.1.10 was directly rootable without much hassle just by following the guide but if you have a C.1.0 / B.1.89 / B.1.100 Stock Rom on your device then you will have to do some extra steps

On my phone it says, Build Number: 6.1.1.B.1.54
Here's the Rooting Process for you.
This Rooting guide applies to all FW versions above B.1.10.
1) Open Flashtool.
2) Click the Flash icon.
3) Select Flash Mode. (Make sure USB Debugging is ON in your Mobile Settings before connecting to PC)
4) Select & Flash the B.1.10 kernel. Then Reboot.
5) Select the Un-Lock icon and choose your preferred SU app & proceed.
6) Follow the on-screen instructions.
7) Now you have rooted your device.
8) Flash B.1.54 kernel and let the device reboot.

But I need the bootloader unlocked to follow that process, don't I?

You don't need to unlock your bootloader in case of flashing stock kernels.
Unlocking bootloader is necessary to flash custom built kernels.

How do I enter CWM

I'm about to install KitKat 4.4 on my Sony Xperia P but I can not get into CWM mode!
Some say I should press Home + Volume down (doesn't work) and some say Power + Volume up (doesn't work) or Power + Volume down.
Which is it???? There should be three vibrations and then....?
Thanks!

I am taking it you did not unlock bootloader, case you cannot flash no non stock based custom ROMs.
Forget about ROM manager, it's not gonna work on XP, not untill they make it work on XP which I don't think they did.
Install recovery using recoverx its a windows software then after install shut down and use volume up at Sony logo.

She has to flash a kernel to get CWM, no?
Ok, see.
You'll need to unlock the bootloader to have the CWM, Sony stock doesn't has a CWM to flash ROMs so it won't work but here's the thing...
In order to get CWM you have to unlock the bootloader and fast boot flash a custom kernel, once you got it you can enter by pressing volume up repeatly, or depending in the kernel you've flashed.
If my vocabulary is so strange to you, I can explain you better, I guess.
But that's it.

Ah, okey! No I have not unlocked the bootloader (yet) and I am reading about RecoveryX for the moment and if I have understood it correctly I will get CWM with it, yes?
I am going to install cm-11-20131201-UNOFFICIAL-nypon-NIGHTLY-14 and gapps-modular-mini-4.4-20131118-signed on my LG Optimus x2 first, before I try it out on my new Xperia - just to make sure I like it and that the incoming call bug is gone with 4.4.
No need to upgrade if the incoming and outgoing dialer issue is still there.
It has CWM installed and is ready to go.
Ps. Yes, I'm a woman.

So THAT's when I do it - at the Sony logo! Thanks!
I have tried RecoveryX before, never worked.
You must have bootloader unlocked to install CM and since you going to flash kernel anyway just use the provided kernel don't bother with recovery.
I don't know if the dialer issue present in JB CMs at all, so you might try them first. CM11 is still in early stage.
LG has the call lag also?
Sorry deleted i saw it to late it was for kitkat
Well, first, like everybody has told you, Unlock the bootloader, then for incoming call lag, i recommend you try CM10.2 or CM11, those are good in this .. and are great for daily use, no big problems.
For unlocking your bootloader you should follow the steps that Sony™ gives you. That´s the easy way.
Have luck..!
