[q] how to fix cpu heat - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So did any body actually find a cpu heat fix
i looked for 2 hours and found nothing
the sgs2 would be the perfect phone if it wasn't for it
cpu/battery problem
please help me make it the perfect phone
im rooted and on a custom rom (d4 rom)

You can't fix a problem until you identify what's causing it. That should be the first thing you focus on.

ARE U KIDDING ME?!
Just set the CPU frequency to 1000 or 800mhz it wont create heat anymore...

no setcpu here an no tweaks but i found the heat issue with certain kernel....but now iam settld wiv stock rom an testing diff kernels,an yes certain apps jus don stop so wen u open an otha app ,hence multiple tasking is generated making the processor crazy (o/p heat)..pm for any dbt

[Q] Cpu problem

Hello people
I've got a strange problem.
My phone's cpu seems to be stuck on the max cpu frequency that I've set it at, which is 787Mhz.
I don't know why this is but I've checked the Setcpu profiles, nothing there.
I've checked all of my apps to see which one is using all that cpu, but all of them don't add too 100%
I don't know whats using this mystery 60%
Dose anyone know whats going on ???
there is nothing wrong with your phone....All that this means is that your phone is running at a higher clock speed (eating battery) while not doing heavier task...u can force your phone to run at a lower clock like 480MHZ
Right OK but most of the time setcpu tells me that the frequency continually changes but it's just static. which it's never done that
Ok ill do the underclocking idea
my p500 can oc to 804 but sometime it's error ; sorry for my English I'm in thailand ^^

Thanks thats helped
but here's a even stranger thing.
I've got a spare battery for my phone and when i put the other one in the CPU was working normally again, which was odd, so I put the other battery back in and the CPU problem started again.
so as strange as it sounds it looks like one of my batterys seems to be causing this problem :S
You shoud use swap!
You can search on Google how to set up swap ( using software or command )
Set swap up to 500mb, now you can OC at higher frequency
I successed on my GT540. Good luck!
P/S: Maybe you need a fast memory card
Sorry for my Eng

Anyone played The Dark Knight rises(TDKR)

Firstly, i wanna ask the owners of S2..how is this game running on your device? For me, usually the game is smooth, but at few places the fps drops quite heavily..
Others also having this issue or is it only me?
Secondly and the most imprtant, whenever i run this game..i have noticed from cpu spy that majority of the time the processor spends at 800 mhz..by majority i mean, more than 95% time..
I would request those who have played this game on S2 to please check the above 2 issues and reply here so i can troubleshoot the problem(if really is present) in my s2. Could be my kernel or rom thats not letting my cpu go above 800...
thanks
P.S: i am on neatlite rom + siyah 3.3.2

[Q] mtk6582(quad core 1.3gHz) cpu heating up...

hi guys i have a note 3 mediatek device (mtk6582) and when i play games or just using it for more than 30-40 min...it gets really hot, i mean really hott..{90c}....(especially when i'm playing games).
and i think it may be beacause of GPU (mali 400)...but i cant find a way to undervolt it...i think i must have custom kernel to do that...so if anyone knows another method to undervolt the gpu, please tell me.
but i also think that it could be the battery that is not the best quality...and i need someone to tell that if the battery is not that good can this heat up the cpu.(or generally the motherboard)
THANK YOU.

Its either the battery or badly soldered chip set No custom kernels for mt6582 try ramping it up and see if it sets in

[Q] S3 i9300 CPU dropping to 800Mhz constantly!!!

Hi there to all!!! I've been flashing various Android Roms for a few yrs now & really enjoy trying out new custom roms etc... Now i have a weird problem, Most customs Roms I have tried for my S3 i9300 are great & most 4.3 Roms come with a Custom Kernel such as Beoffla, GoogyMax, devil kernel & so on.... Now the problem is when leaving the CPU at defualt governer & settings everything is fine eg: min 200 & max 1400 but games lag now & again, When setting the CPU min & Max settings to 1400MHz, the results are much better but not for long, The CPU always drops to 800MHz when gaming as i notice the lagg, I've noticed this same thing with just about every kernel & rom ive tried wether its set to 1400 or even overclocked to 1500 or 1600max, I've also tried every trick to make them settings stick , like trickster mod etc, none seem to work for long, its like another system service is interfering with the settings or so.....im pulling my hair out to figure out what this is, I just want the CPU min & max to stay firmly at 1400Mhz or 1500 etc....without changing at all!!!
Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.... FlashJunkie83

CPU/GPU can under-perform if they get too hot from playing resource-intensive games or apps. Maybe this is the issue.

hey yea would make sense but when running rooted stock 4.1.2 with stock kernel, this doesnt happen at all, i can set performance governer in set cpu & it stays at 1400 Mhz throughout, also i would of thought a Cpu thats ment to run at 1400 would be fine to do so all the time as its ment to be able to... even with a little heat behind it... its still only doing what its ment to lol, i remember in the days of my s2, i could push the cpu to 1200mhz & it would happily stay there even tho it got hot lol, im really sure its a system thing that upsets the cpu frequency, other than that there must be a way to stop the cpu/gpu from under-performing with a little heat..... thanks for reply tho dude....

- High temp will always cause freq throttling since this is how devices are designed. This over-rides whatever the max freq the cpu was designed to run on.
- try undervolting from the boefla config app (if you use the boefla kernel). I use -25mV with almost no difference to performance. Some users have gone on to -50mV but that gave me random freezes and massive lags sometimes.
- Test different governors. I mostly use the default pegasusq and it works well enough. Constantly high freq can affect the CPU in the long-term. So I use max freq of 800mhz and increase it to 1400mhz only when I play games.
- I'm not a fan of SetCPU. It's a great app but i find specific apps (like boeffla config) for kernels to be more precise.
- You can also try a different battery and borrow one from a friend to test it out. I had slight heating issues long ago and changing the battery reduced the heat for me somehow. It was not much, but it was enough for me to notice.

finally fiqured it out, it seems that cynogenmod has a diffrent approach to thermal throttling as ive flashed CM10.2.0 Android 4.3.1 along with Boeffla 2.1 for CM & the issue seems to have gone completely, have been running a performance test on games for best part of the day at 1600MHz with 4 enabled cores & just going back to normal settings for normal daily use, & not 1 issue with throttling, so now im very happy with the smoothness in games although its gets warm, but most high performance CPU's do anyways,So ive come to the conclusion that thermal throttling must be handled more by sammy roms it seems, but got the result i wanted in the end, thanks for all replies tho guys

Z2 High CPU temperature

I am running CM12.1 + M5 Kernel UNDERVOLTED
2.3ghz voltage is 0.900v
I am using EX Kernel manager to show my cpu temp in status bar and I am running StabilityTest v2.7 to stress it .
After 5 minutes of continous stress , the cpu temp is 84 celsius degrees , is this normal ? It's possible to be a sensor reading bug in EX Kernel manager ?
after 15 minutes of stress the temp is 91 ? c'mon is this true ? the phone should be untouchable at that temp but is pretty fine lol . Could be temperature sensor bug ? I hope so
Its weird,i remember my cpu hiting 83-85c and shutting down automatically when i used stability test..but.. i had 4 cores overclocked to 2.7ghz on about 1100v so its a bit of imposibility to have 91c on 900mv.. try kernel adiutor mayby? And Believe me it would be hot as hell as i couldn't handle mine during the tests and cpu was 'only' 85

yes , sound weird , it even goes to 93 degree but still running lol
and yes , the case is not that incredible hot
what rom and kernel you use ? I am using CM12.1 and M5 kernel , maybe that's why sensor reading is bugged , also if I use Cpu Temp app I get 9c lower temps :-/
just asking , how did you kill 2 z2 ?
Currently im on existenz 7.0 + androplus kernel v72,but i was also playing with overclocking etc on cm12.1 and m5 kernel v10.2 some time ago. On both i never got higher than 80-85 degrees without shutdown..And its really hard to get that 80 degree on 2265mhz even after about 10 mins of stability test for me. Only get that high temperatures on voltages above 950-1000mv and long tests.Look at my kernel adiutor settings in attachment. It must be a bug with EX kernel. Probably the cpu temp shows right one.
Ah and i killed 2 because i wanted to switch their motherboards. My carrier permamently locks bl and i wanted an unlockable one.It was a stupid thing to do..but it was a long time ago when i didnt knew many things yet

Oh , good to hear that .
And about your 2 dead z2 , sorry for asking too many questions but I am curious when it comes to this stuff because I also disassembled many phones and my Z2 to do some camera improvement . How exactly you killed the motherboard ? some short circuit or physical damage like scratch or crack ?
When i started the phone after replacing the old board with new unlockable one from the other z2 and doing a fresh ftf install it started to boot..and died..permamently.Pc companion, flashtool, even service didnt revive it (they tried testpoint etc.).I tried to put back my old Locked Mb instead and same thing happened. So i sold my main z2 as a non booting and the second one which already had a cracked digitizer (the one from which i took the unlockable mb from) i sold in parts. Not sure why i was so stubborn but i got third one which i use now and it was unlockable since the beginning..

maybe you screwed up some battery pins on that flex and fried some part , no idea , very weird
anyway , good thing to know , not to mess with removing motherboard ... I love the SoC from my phone because it runs stable 2.3ghz with 900mv and this seems to be very rare .
Thanks for the help and also for telling me the story of your 2 phones
