[Q] Need Advise on Downloading ICS rom For GT-I9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i want little advise on downloading ICS rom, I have recently rooted my beloved sexy SGS II
I want the pure ics rom which you can see on galaxy nexus rom with same look & feel, and it should be stable too, if not then
I have a question, if i install any stable ICS based MIUI or Cyanogenmod rom, do u know if there is option inside to switch it original default ICS theme ? I trided to look in youtube videos but didn't get
Also Do you know if we can put Tw Launcher on custom rom?
Thank you

I'm not sure where you can get this stuff...maybe use the search navigator? Or go down to your devices android development thread? TWLauncher won't work on any pure Google experience, frameworks don't allow it, unless you like boot loops... Not trying to flame you, but you should search a bit harder before posting on here...XDA isn't YouTube, so you won't find the answers there. Most ICS ROMs are stock ICS theme out-of-the-box, look at screenies! Oh wait, you didn't because you never searched...>.>
Using Tapatalk/SGH-1897

^Agreed. Search and you would find the resurrection remix rom, pure ics, and etc.

Resurrection is not pure ICS, Its basic framework is based on the Tw launcher. It only has an ICS launcher, everything else is themed. So if you want a pure ICS rom only CM9 is there. If you want your phone to look like an Iphone then use MIUI.

hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah I really searched ok? but I was confused and yeah I XDA is youtube but theres no much screens where i can flip through them hahhahahahaah thanks for the valuable information and help

Go for HyDrOG3N-ICS with Siyah Kernel One of the best rom and kernel combo you're going to find out there for Pure ICS experience and lots of customization. It's stable, fast and really good battery life.

thanks bajee11 but first i want to give a try to CM9 after that if i dont find it good enough then i will surely go for you rom.

If it is your first unofficial ROM i can recomment Ressurection remix. I am also a noob at this stuff but was disappointed at the samsung ics update.
I have tried 3 versions of Ressurection Remix and they are really good. I have had little problem installing them and they behave pretty much like stock ics with some added benefits.
Hope i could help.

Hi!
I recently switced to sgs2 coming from my old sgs1 that was running cm9.
I turned on the sgs2 in the car on my way home and suddenly remembered the "Samsung tw hell" OK tw4 is not that bad and there is not the same lag as on the sgs1. But after using the "pure ICS experience on sgs1 for a while now, I just couldn't go back to touchwiz.
So when I got back home I found the speedmod kernel for sgs2 GB and flashed it, just to get cwm and then flashed hydrogen ics rom straight away. And I haven't looked back since, my phone is flying! Even though I have it running at Max 1 Ghz And compaired to my sgs1 the battery life is not that bad.
So hydrogen rom is so far my only experience with ics on the sgs2 but I can highly recommend it. And it can be modified without end so its really cool!

same here Hydrog3n-ICS is worth flashing and its CM9 based too...

I have now installed CyanogenMod9 Nightly latest build and it is fast with pure ics experience it looks stable too as read I some where ,though i know it has some minor issues like radio is not implemented yet also i compared it with hydrogen rom and i found that lot of customizing is not present in nightly build and im not quite happpy with it. What do you guys think about this rom ?? also let me know if should stay with this rom or upgrade to Hydrogen rom ?let know which is more better between CM9 versions. which ever rom you recommend , please let me know the steps to flash it.
If i want to install Hydrogen rom can I use below method: ? (just want to confirm)
Transfer the zip file you downloaded to your internal sdcard (not the external micro SD).
Turn off the phone, then boot into recovery mode. For this, press and hold these 3 buttons together until Samsung’s screen shows up: Volume UP+Home+Power.
Phone will boot into CWM recovery. Use volume keys to scroll up and down between options and power/home key to select an option.
Perform a wipe:
Select “wipe data/factory reset”. Then select “Yes” on next screen to confirm. (This will not touch your SD cards so don’t worry).
Go to “advanced” and then select “wipe dalvik cache”, then select “Yes” on next screen. Now, go back to main screen of recovery.
Select “mounts and storage”, then select “format system”. Select “Yes” on next screen to confirm. Go back to main recovery menu after system format is complete.
Then, select “install zip from sdcard”, then select “choose zip from sdcard”. Then, browse to the file you transferred to the sdcard in step 2 and select it.
Confirm installation on the next screen by selecting the option ”Yes — Install HyDrOXYG3NICS.zip“. The ROM will now start installing.
After installation is complete, select “go back” then select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.

[Q] Custom ROMS vs Stock

Do all Custom ROMS for all the positive features they may bring always result in less stabililty than a Stock ROM?
I imagine CM7 to be the best....seeing as he works for Samsung also. I certainly found it the best when I had the I9000/Galaxy. However looking at the CyanogenMod forum there are plenty of people raising issues with the builds (including 'stable' builds).
I really enjoy trying different ROMS usually but I am deliberately sticking with a rooted stock at the moment - and it has never froze, crashed or rebooted itself yet! I do miss fiddling with my phone though!
Thoughts/opinions appreciated.
Thanks

Yes.
(10 char)
If you want a stable rom, then use the one in my sig. Oxygen is amongst the most stable roms that are out here. It's almost bugfree, because the creater of the rom, Adam G is a perfectionist.
You have no touchwhizz, just stock android that works. If you are looking for a shiny rom, then this one is not for you. If you want a stable rom and an almost bug free rom, then this one is for you.
ps you won't find this rom on xda, because he does not want that anymore.
Samsung Galaxy SII
try this combination...
*CheckROM Revolution HD v3.1.1 (fast and lite)
*Speedmod-kernel-s2-k2-18-test8-CWM.zip (best battery life)

[Q] Too much ICS Roms, please help (looking for smooth experience)

Hi,
I tested some ICS roms about two weeks ago but went back to GB checkrom v6 very quickly. It was laggy and not very responsive screen. So now I want a very smooth rom, good responsiveness. It should not be a Samsung bloated rom. So something AOSP based I guess. Is there anything you would suggest?
Thanks!

Don't be lazy. Make a nandroid backup of your phone so you can recover if something goes wrong or you don't like it, and try them yourself. Your phone, installed apps, and usage patterns will not be the same as anyone else's.
I will be surprised if this thread stays open for much longer.
Palm OS.
I would strongly recommend Thebyani rom v3.9. v4.0 due shortly.

[Q][POLL]CyanogenMod or ParanoidAndroid

Hi,
I have hard times to decide which ROM should I run. Both are great and amazing. So I need some help from both CM and Paranoid users.
What I look forward are: A better battery life and fast-stable operating.
Thanks in advance!
You're posting to wrong section.
But I prefer CyanogenMod

Paranoid Android has more UI choices from normal to hybrid. Really good and stable ROM. Cyanogen will are the main source. You have any problems its them that fix it not Paranoid. I'm on Cyanogen now. Was on Paranoid and enjoyed it. I'd rather stability than anything else.
Please read the rules about posting in the correct sections.

This one I did not closed because the OP is asking about a comparison between two specific roms not asking a general "which rom is best". I feel this thread is ok and tolerable. lol
only thing i dont like about cyanogen is that you cant have a brightness slider, i use paranoid but a recommendation i could make is install the latest siyah kernel then run one as a first rom and the other as second rom and give them both a try i do it for omega stock touchwiz and pa very useful :3

How do you mean by "run as first rom and the other as second"?
He means dual boot, see siyah kernel thread. But quite odd to dual boot with two non Sammy (or 2 Sammy) roms
More logical to use paranoid as it's cm based with more features.
Newb question here:
But, what's the difference between CM10 and Paranoid Android?
Since Paranoid Android is built on CM10 - wont it just have a few extra features? (Hybrid mode looks cool imo.)

Don't you think hybrid is a big difference ? Just flash and compare, no one will be able to choose for you. Ten minutes work, restore is easy with nandroid, you could even try without data wipe as it's same base. But CM10 bugs ==> Paranoid.
I look at the voting poll and it's pretty close. Right now I'm running CM10. I must to say that the battery life rocks. The only thing that I don't like that much is the Contacts feature, a lot of stuffs are missing. Ow and also I can't find Power Saving mode in Settings?

The latest Syiah Kernel allows you to dual boot your phone. So you can have two different roms installed.
I use CM10 because it has faster/more frequent updates. (Usually every night hence "nightly") (could be a good or bad thing though... I feel like I have to flash something on my phone every day. Flashing is sooo addicting lol.)
PA is based on CM10 and will have to wait for CM10 to release its update before it too updates. The PA team is also quick to update when it happens though.
But PA has added features to CM10 that some people may or may not like. Hybrid mode and enabling/disabling hard/soft keys are one of top features that comes to mind.
Dude, first of all.. you CAN'T let other people decide on what you "want"
You just have to try it for yourself..

I'm trying out right now the CM10. Very awesome! I will give a try to PA also.
Just wanted to know which was more stable ..
This is a little off the Paranoid and CM10 but what I tried was this...
Downloaded Omega v29 & Omega v2.0 and dropped into SD Card,
Formatted my Internal Memory, (like completely formatted),
Flashed Omega v29, once done, set it up, and there is S Teaks in the App Drawer, open it up and go across to Dualboot and click the ''Reboot into 2ndROM Utils''
Down the bottom there is dual-boot options, go into that, Format 2md Rom system, Wipe 2nd Rom data/cache and wipe dalvik-cache, and fix permissions, then install zip to from External SD (where you put the omega v2.0 file, and flash that. And the rest is as is comes.
It will reboot and you have a choice to click the home button to go to your 2nd rom or click anything else to go to 1st Rom.
Worth it, due to both those Omegas are different UI, I got Omega v29 for Gaming and 2.0 for sexy show off looks.
i used PA before im on CM10.1 based rom,
PA - i like the phablet mode etc but it has no statusbar transparency
CM - i love the speed, themes and the softbutton below its like a built in. battery and performance are great.
i dont know which is better since i used the same kernel with that 2 cusrom marmite kernel

[Q] SGS3 I9300 International. Looking for a rom that fits me

Hello,
I just joined XDA im on this forum for a week now and i kind off like it. I decided to root my phone because i want more battery life and AOSP like phone.
I have an International Samsung Gakaxy S3 i9300 with CM 6 recovery.
Rooted ofc
I searched all week for a rom but just couldnt find one for my needs.
So can you help my guys by finding a good rom and kernel for me? and im on the base version i9300DXELK1.
What i need:
AOSP Look rom, like the nexus phones.
Best battery life possible
Customize my rom (doesnt have to be in the rom, its cool to download a ZIP theme and flash it (the rom needs support. I tryd with foxhound but the foxhound options were missing with a theme it was the JKAY theme, I just want to have a high theme choise, and diffrent icons you know.)
Able to install mods etc.
AOSP Apps, like camera dailer, messaging, etc etc.
AOSP Lockscreen (Not the 4.2 widget one)
What i like to have:
4.2 Sphere camera.
4.1 Toggles on notification bar.
Able to mod my rom.
DPI Changer (dont need just like to have).
I am also looking for a good kernel that even more gives me more battery life. Im running siyah, im asking this because maybe theres a better battery life kernel then siyah
Thanks for reading

try foxhound.although it is jb 4.1.2 you can install swipe keyboard and photosphere camera on foxhound ota.
Foxhound isnt themeable:S And i prefer 4,1 jb im trying slim bean now i kinda like it, but i dont like the launcher because its not the standart launcher.
But final qeustion is there a CM or AOKP 4.1 what is stable (No bugs or almost no bugs) I only see nightlys of it. I think stock cm is best for me isnt it?
Yeah im kinda a critic xd. sorry
i recently started installing custom roms also, i tried cyanogen mod 10 which i found to be ok but a bit of a rough feel. then i tried ultima rom and to be honest its brilliant. if all else fails google

There is a TW Neat and a AOSP Neat. Seems you have the AOSP Neat.
Anyway just dirty flash your rom again and it will overwrite the kernel.

The one you will keep is a matter of personal preference. On the Galaxy S2 I use the AOSP version. It is lighter and you get Android 4.4.4. I do not like or use any of the Samsung crapware.
For starters keep the kernel that comes with the rom. It is more than good enough.

so youre saying with the performence x mod i can use stock or the cm version? im on jelly bean 4.1.2 and yeah i decided to stay with the apolo kernal
yeah i still dont understand even after reading all through the pages of the performence mod, some people say i need the stock version if using neat rom, im guessing because its a stock based rom but he says if its a stock firmware to use the stock rom wich is what i thought at first
currently im using the stock version of performence x mod but id just want to know for sure im using the correct one for the best experience, im using the apolo kernal that came with the lite version of neat rom, on jb 4.1.2, but now im thinking i need the cm version because he says this
This engine works on any devices with any rom, but there is a version for CM's rom and one for stock based firmwares. So, CMx.x, Lewa Os, MIUI, etc.
Install the stock version only on your stock firmware of your phone....
if your device don't have gingerbread or ICS officially, install the CM version (This also applies to the AOSP)
Stock means the Samsumg Touchwiz Rom that comes with phone. Could also be a custom modified TW rom like Omega or NeatROM.
AOSP based roms are Slim, Paranoid, CM, Liquid, Omni, ... and, of course, AOSP Neatrom.
To further clarify, there are two NeatROms:
- Samsung Stock Based: [ROM][Aug 26][XWMS3] NeatROM
- AOSP Based: [ROM][Sep 25][4.4.4] I9100 AOSP NeatROM (Based on Slim rom)

thx for the detailed explanation mate, by the way i just installed the neatrom version you suggested with kitkat 4.4.2, i think the one i was using was a bit out of date, i like how light it is, lol it literaly comes with nothing installed really, anyways so i take it this aosp neatrom will use the cm version of the performence x mod then?
That is correct. AOSP NeatRom with CM version of PurePerformance.
If I were you I would use the rom for a few days before applying the mod. That would allow you to really feel if it will make a difference and if it is worth using it.

ah ok thx for the advice, im kinda not likin this one though mate, its a bit to bare for me, for a start i cant find the power save toggle no more lol, also it removed the default samsung galaxy music and video player wich i really liked and cant seem to get back, ive looked and cant find the stock one anywhere, there the 2 main things bothering me, i like to get rid of as much bloatware as possible. because then you can just have the stuff you want, but the stock music and video player were pretty decent
one other thing i went and installed the latest apolo kernal too, its the one for kitkat, had to update my gpu mali driver to install it, i just want the stock sgs2 music and video player back mainly now and ill be good
Samsung apps rely on Touchwiz framework. You can not run them under an AOSP rom.
If you feel you must have them, you have to use a TW rom, could be the TW neat rom.
I use these apps:
Video Player: MX Player - XDA thread MX Player
Music Player: Poweramp Music Player
The best apps to extend your battery life:
[APP][4.0+] Greenify
[APP][2.3+] LeanDroid - The most efficient battery saver
Have fun!

Glad to be able to help.
In this case I am not sure what to do. The S 2 I have is beeing used by my son and he out for two weeks.
Usually AOSP roms will allow you to suppress or change the network name. It is a status bar option called "Carrier Label" or something similar. I know it is not the best solution but it is what I can think of at this moment.
If possible please post a screenshot with the place where tmobile name is showing.
Not a problem mate apparently T-Mobile are same as virgin or something like that I read. Phone works fine. I put the kh3 modem on it too so that's probably why.
also you were rite about trying it without the performence mod, i did a tuntutu test before and after and with it, it lags like hell and i get 15000 and without it i get 17181 wich from reading everyone elses is pretty good, though i know benchmarks arnt accurate, its in game you get the results not these tests, but it can play gta san andreas well and thats what i wanted from it anyways, cant afford one of the newest ones
and theres not many games out that take advantage of the expensive ones yet anyways, games are gonna get good on these phones though thats for sure, maybe ill think about getting a better model when theres loads of decent games i cant play
atm i can play real trigger 2, real racing 3, though real trigger 2 on lowest settings for a smooth performence, gta 3 , gta san andreas overall pretty chuffed with this phone so far
oh and thx for the poweramp recomendation mate, its better than the samsung one, one last question, is it possible to get one of the stock weather widgets at all? can you not switch to the touchwiz launcher or something?
