Hello everyone!
I recently rooted my Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i running Gingerbread 2.3.6, and then tried to install a version of Clockwork Mod Recovery (File Name: ClockWorkModAce.zip, which I think is the 4.0.0.9 version from the AndriodFlip website /how-to-install-clockwork-mod-recovery-cwm-on-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830/). Its supposed to compatible, but it ended up softbricking my phone.
Q1: I heard that dl mode can be accessed by pressing -vol+home+power. That don't work from me. But +vol+-vol+power opens up an warning screen, followed by pressing the +vol key which bring me into ODIN MODE, a counter, current bin: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL and an android robot with "Downloading, Do not turn off target". Is this dl mode?
Q2: I own a Mac, and I have used Kies to install the latest drivers. However the Mac version of Odin (I torrented Odin.zip from The Pirate Bay) still doesn't seem to detect it. I tried using different cables, blowing into the ports etc. Does this problem relate to Q1?
Q3: I'm happy that I managed to find a file capable of rooting my phone, but sad that any CWM I try to install end up bricking my phone. Can anyone suggest a suitable CWM for me? After I solve Q1 and Q2, maybe I try the suggestion.
Thank you very much.
This was for GT - S5830 only...

Thank you for your reply. I've just downloaded a CWM for GT-S5830i, which is unflashable and needs to be reloaded every time i enter recovery.
Is there a restore file out there by any chance I can download?

Elaboration: CWM 5.0.2.6 is the one I was mentioning about.
About the restore file, I meant something that could be flashed via CWM 5.0.2.6 under the restore function. Something like a backup recovery file? Is it possible to do?

Lol. I do not have the backup as I bricked my phone before getting CWM 5.0.2.6. Right now I am asking of the possibility of someone having uploaded a backup of their S5830i image that I can restore using CWM.

Q1: I think this is the download mode. I remember, that Minis (or maybe Y) have the same download screen, Ace has another one.
Q2: I don't know mac, but odin didn't recognize my phone, till I didn't install the proper driver for it, maybe this is your problem too.
Q3: dunno.
Maybe it was helpful.
U got a same recovery as galaxy y...have to flash it averytime enter recovery mode to get clockworkmod recovery...

Try running Odin in virtual box.
Make sure that everything you flash supports your phone. You flashed a version specifically for S5830

Hi, I'm really new to this Android thing and a friend bought a Samsung Galaxy Ace. He's worst than me and doesn't know what a ROM is..
Well, I want to install THIS CyanogenMod but it says the phone needs to be in 2.3.* and my friend's is in 2.2.1.
I searched how to update to 2.3.* and I thought updating to 2.3.3 by flashing THIS VillainROM will work.. and after this ROM, put ClockWorkMod (required by the CM) and flash the CM..
I want to know if this will work or if I'll brick my friend's phone (I prefer bricking my phone rather than my friend's). Hope to hear some reponse soon, thanks!
VillanROM is fine

I'm Not familuar with your Galaxy phone but as it is samsung you should be able to you odin or swupdate to flash any SUPPORTED rom. Also first thing I have done with any phone regardless of manufacture is obtain root then flash recover and lastly flash the rom of your choice.
Not much help but hope it gives some direction
MOST IMPORTANT read extensivly about anything you are considering flashing BEFORE you do it. $500 dollar paper weights are over rated
Well, thanks for help but I have another problem
I connected the phone to Skies and it said a Firmware update was available. I updated the phone and ended with 2.3.4.
I was very happy and thought: "Great! I have 2.3.4 so now I can put the CWM and install the CyanogenMod "
I copied the CWM to the SD and installed it through recovery. When I tried to enter the CWM App it said I needed Superuser acess and the app closes..
I tried using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 and also opening in recovery mode and selecting "install .zip from SD" with a .zip supposed to root 2.3.4 but none of them worked..
What should I do? HELP!

You don't need root. Flash the clockworkmod recovery and you're all set for the final rom flashing.

"Install zip from SD card" NOT "Install update from SD card"
Select your CyanogenMod zip file
Wait for it to finish
Reboot device

hi guys, ive recently been given a s2 and i want to know how to root it and install clockwork mod without a pc. i have looked through the tutoriols and it seems simple to root but then when wanting to flash a recovery it seems confusing as there are kernels and what not. i have searched but things seem to complicated compared to the one x. sorry if this is really stupid but could someone tell me how to root my s2 and install cwm and install a custom kernel in simple english please. thanks in advance.
also one cwm is installed can i install roms through there or is odin(this is also confusing) required?
oh and finally, once a ota arrives how do i unroot and revert back to stock recovery. sorry for the noob questions guys, thanks in adcance

Simple mate. Download this http://db.tt/MxD7F6xg and install through stock recovery (volume up+home+power).
This is a temp CWM recovery so you can flash this kernel: http://www.dorimanx.com/Android-ICS/ by selecting Install zip from internal or external sdcard. BTW, it's touch recovery.
Then you're all done:thumbup:
Yes you can flash custom roms through CWM recovery built in the kernel.
Yes also to revert back to stock rom/kernel for ota. For this, you can use mobile Odin pro. Works great.
EDIT: OH and the kernels are pre-rooted

You should not be mucking about with your phone until you have a pc handy(with odin installed properly).
I hardly ever use a pc,but you can get situations when you flash something and the phone dont boot properly, plus no access to recovery.
The only option is then using a pc/odin.

Hello
I accidently deleted a file from System/Firmware called "android.policy.jar" (Its a long story so please dont ask how, i am too worried).
Now my phone does not start. Heres the condition->
If i start it normally, the phone is stuck at bootanimation.
If I try to start in recovery (By holding Volume Up+Home+Power), it keeps displaying the splash screen (where its written "Galaxy SIII GT-I9300")
and does not go in recovery.
But I am able to start it in download mode.
I also have a clockwork backup so if it can somehow made to boot in recover, i can restore stuff.
I am using android 4.1.2 (ROM-> Droid SIII)
I can try with odin but I have linux installed and downloading windows over my slow internet can take upto 4 days!
Is there anyway to use odin or alternative in linux (Bcos using WINE can cause driver problems).
Please help.

Hello and sorry to post this problem here as i have the tmobile note but i used the att i717 rooting method from rootgalaxynote.com ofcourse did not use an att based rom but a tmobile one( cm10.1 rc2) . The problem is after clearing everything i then proceed to install the new rom using cwm and it says "install aborted" error section 7 ive tried it a few times cleared everything again and still nothing. Dont know if i need to update cwm and if so how vers.5.0.5 or something like that or is it the build which is the lates update by tmo uvlma1 and the instructions were from may of 2012. Please help i have gone back to stock for now as i did backup first. Ps i have installed titanium backup pro and and superuser and have even frozen some of the bloatware from tmo so im guessing i am rooted. Please help as the tmo threads are dead and no help from no one!! Thanks a bunch guys
Just update your recovery dude.
Twrp is superior to cwm imo anyway.
This has been discussed many times. Since you are coming from T-Mobile forum here is a link which was recently discussed. Staus 7 means you need to upgrade your recovery.

Your phone will stay in download mode to flash a recovery.
Once flashed boot into that every and flash a Rom within.
Put your phone to download mode. Make sure you have drivers installed. Open odin(i used v1.85). Put the twrp recovery tar file in to pda slot. Conect your phone to your computer in download mode. Once odin finds your device then press start.

Hello,
Yesterday, when trying to create a backup of my current ROM (original, factory ROM) it seems that after the backup process was finished, when I tried to reboot my phone it would go directly into cwm recovery instead of starting up normally. This happens every time I try to reboot the phone. I have a Samsung Exhibit sgh-t599n (metro pcs).
Other things that may be revelant to my problem: the backup was not successful (there was a message saying something about an image not being copied). Also, in the cwm recovery menu there is a warning that says "No file_contexts".
I would appreciate any help you could give me.
Thank you

Okay so you do know how to get into Odin. Try flashing a different custom recovery. Also make sure the one you are using is made for your device. There aren't any recoveries that are universal with 1 file. Just make sure the one you are using is for your phone!
