Amaze w/ Speaker Issues - HTC Amaze 4G

So I've had my Amaze since January, and I started having speaker issues since two weeks ago. I submitted my phone to T-Mobile for a replacement (with a $20 fee of course which is ridiculous) and the replacement phone they sent me has the same exact issue.
Here are the symptoms:
Static and low volume even if it is turned up to the max. The static is random, and will come and go regardless to music source, volume, or location. I restarted my "new" phone and the issue went away but I am sure it will come back.
Anyone else with this issue?
Argh I could club a baby seal right now...

I don't know if I'm reading it right, but you got a replacement, its doing the same thing, so you restarted it and its ok, but you think the problem will come back?
I havent' had issues with either of my amaze's, speaker has always been great on both

Yep I have the same issue with both Amaze's and it did come back when I listened to music again...-.-

Strange it would happen on 2 different devices. I would throw a fit at T-Mobile for another replacement and tell them to take the 20 dollars and stick it where the sun don't shine.....
I never had to pay 20 for a replacement. Usually free 1st time, then 5.99 after. Been through a few BB 9700's, lol!

if it is the ringtone issue then you can go to setting and uncheck turn volume down on pick up but if it is with music then i don't know. never had any problem like this on my amaze btw it is my 2nd amaze and i only paid 5-6 bucks for replacement not 20 like you.

Did you do it through insurance replacement? I think they only charge $5 if you pay the $7/month insurance plan

no i have one year warranty on phone so it doesn't matter as long as your phone is under warranty you shouldn't pay no 20 bucks.

Speaker noise?

Alright, so I'm on Notorious ROM right now, but no matter what ROM I try, the thing I'm about to explain stays the same.
You know that tone you hear when you press the volume buttons in the home screen? To change the ringtone volume... It's all clear when that happens. By clear I mean no LOUD noise is coming out of the speaker. Only one thing. When you press the up/down volume buttons in the homescreen, or when "Audible selection" (under Settings -> Sound) is checked and you touch the phone (you know, some tone is being played)... I can hear a background noise like that fuss you hear on a Radio when it's not tuned right. It's not loud, but it's there.
But whenever I play a media (movie, game, I don't know), I hear a constant noise coming through the speaker. You know, like a FM radio isn't tuned right... just WORSE. For example, I play a game with the lowest volume - it sucks.
Can you try this for me, please? Put yourself in a quiet room and start a game or a musical or something, and turn the volume to the lowest. See if you can hear that... If you can't, put the speaker next to your ear.
I really am looking forward to your feedback. I'm starting to believe it's a hardware issue, but a software one, as well (otherwise that noise wouldn't be heard only when media is played). PLEASE !
Many phones will do this when they are plugged in and charging. Is it doing it when your phone is running on battery only? If that is the case you can always buy a filter for your AUX cord.

Thats what I figured...But the Aux cord filter that he was talking about is only for using a cable to connect the phone to the line in of another device. I tried it over and over again and the only thing I hear is my music (very softly because i turned it down as low as I could). My friend has an atrix too and he could not replicate this either.

Breaking the screen
The first one hard bricked, the day I got it when I attempted to unlock the bootloader...It was only an hour after I got it so I took it to AT&T and they replaced it. I guess they figured I couldn't have done that much damage in 45 minutes
The second one slid out of my back pocket as I was getting out of the car without me realizing it. It slid right in the door frame and when I closed the car door, the phone bent and the screen cracked. Since the main board was cracked, it quit booting =P I've had my current one though for 6 months and haven't had an issue. (I do have an otterbox defender on it)

That's exactly what I did with a friend of mine. We went to the shop for him to buy a HTC Desire, then we went to a McDonalds and I tried to unlock it. When the radio was flashing, he mistakenly pulled the cable - brick transformation!!! Then we went back to the store (20 minutes later), told them the phone was not booting anymore.

There's something in that phrase that doesn't make sense there... but yeah, I got the last part of it, so case closed .
Just watch out for the future. No more waving at birds with your phone laced to the small finger... it may slip out and break more than just your finger . Hah, now THAT's stupid.

To protect my ATRIX, I have a MOMAX iCase Pro case on it. It snaps on so fast & easy, that it is just as easy to take off... so if you drop the phone, the case snaps off from the corner it lands. That happened to me. Lucky me, the crappy plastic of the phone barely got scratched on its right "cheek"... Need a new case (this one is rather used) or a tighter / thicker one. Oh well...

Phone shutting off!!

okay so iv had the evo since day 1 and its been great. I am NOT rooted or anything. At random times my phone will SHUT off and it WONT turn back on AT ALL no matter what i do. the only way it turns on is that i let the phone sit for like 30 minutes without touching it and then i can power it back on.
wtf is going on
it seems that when ever i make a PHONE call the phone will just turn off!!
i was jsut on the phone for about 20 seconds and it shut off again...
only this time the phone wont even have a RED charge light when i plug it in to charge it, looks like my evo is TOAST!
Wont turn on AT ALL!

In this case you wouldn't have to pay anything. It would be considered a warranty repair/ replacement. Only time you pay is for insurance repairs/ replacement i.e. dropped phone or water damage.

no thats not it...i took off my case and it still does this.
I have the same issue, I contacted HTC support and they say that holding the power down for 60 seconds is similar to popping out the battery.
Just hold the power in for a minute then release. After about 5-10 seconds the phone should turn on.
No idea why it loses power though.... very concerning.
I'd say take it in sounds like a bad dud sprint will replace it for free. Something may be wrong with the processor or battery connection.

I think this is only if you have TEP. If you are after the 30 day device exchange policy and you don't have TEP, then you can't do anything but return it to HTC for repair.
when i went in i told them my issue and the sales guy kept asking me if i was within the 14 day period, i told him no. he looked at the phone and saw the issue and took it to his manager. he then told me he was going to replace simply because i wouldnt even turn on or get a charge light.
he said that about 10 people with this issue have came to them about it. he said that HTC hasnt given them a solution to it so they just replace it free of charge

[Q] Sprint Warranty Phones

I have the TEP from Sprint. My screen is messed up. Over the past couple weeks it's sometimes unresponsive, sometimes doing phantom button presses. I can literally turn the screen on sometimes and watch it as it moves the notification bar down, or attempts to swap screens. It even does random button presses in TWRP or CWM recoveries.
I'm going to be taking it in, my question is.. does anybody know whether or not they are giving refurb'd Evo3D for warranty claims? Or is it another phone completely? When i had my original Evo, i had warranty work done and they gave me the 3D because they didn't have anymore Evo's left. Has anybody done warranty work lately?
Thanks.

And they will replace it as long as the screen isn't shattered, Digitizer is their problem (Although the digitizer and screen are the same thing... Their kinda stupid...) Asurion deals with the insurance, Which you'll be charged $100 for.
Sprint deals with warranty, And most likely they'll check out your phone, and put in a new order and have you come back 3 to 5 days or so later to switch out for the new phone, they "Might" have it on hand, But i've never had this, And the 3vo is getting pretty old so they'll almost definitely have to order one.
And the phone will come without an SD or Battery, So make sure you charge up your battery.
Edit: Thanks button?? No?? lol.

Mine's the same. Depending on when your contracts up and whether or not you're able to deal with it. (Mine's worst when I'm outside in the cold, but generally passable indoors with occasional lock ups, button presses, etc). You may just want to sit tight and see what is officially announced for a spring release.

Well.. I took it to the sprint store because it became almost unusable. I could turn the screen on and have about 7 seconds until it froze or started randomly opening, moving stuff around. Flashed back to stock (from CM 10.1, didn't want them to know i voided all warranties) and took it in. They saw i had the TEP and said to give them a half hour, and they would have it fixed. They replaced the screen for me in minutes. Now everything is good as new.

Screens are super dooper easy to replace for next time, and pretty damn cheap too.
Note: They only last a little while in most cases lol, So don't be too excited.

Took it yesterday & got a new battery, housing, screen , & motherboard.

My phone appears to be shot. Is this a hardware issue? When plugged into the computer, it recognizes the phone, but I can't access any files.

Nope, I have not done an OTA update in months. It's been working temperamentally all night. I was able to recover and flash a new ROM, and still, same problem. Guessing it's a hardware problem, not a software problem.

Anyway to get at that cable in this phone?
That exact thing happened to my device about 3 weeks ago. Sprint replaced the screen for $50. When I powered it up the screen was unresponsive. Turned out that I had an older twrp with a new touch panel. Even though the screen was all full of snow the touch panel was working and I ended up
wiping my system. What an ordeal! My device is working perfect now, it's definitely your screen. Good luck!

Not hard to take the phone apart but, for $50 bucks they said if it wasn't the screen they would give me a new device. They won't know it's rooted till they fire it up. The guy that helped me didn't care that it was rooted, it's hardware failure. His EVO was rooted lol

Id say it is your touch screen drivers. I have had the same issue when they first dropped. I doubt your LCD would be doing that. If it does fix the issue, then you got a different model touchscreen/lcd.
EDIT: Just read your post about it returning to normal by pressing on the screen. So it does sound like there are some issues, and probably need to get the screen replaced. See what options you have with sprint as it is probably out of warranty with htc anyways. Most shops would charge 100-150 to replace it probably.
I believe it is standard policy for Sprint to charge $50 to fix or replace the device if it can't be fixed. It's not a bad deal, my gf's device had a dead spot and they replaced the screen for $50. You will pay about that for a screen on the internet if you replace it your self. Your only problem is the distance to travel and in my case they had to order the screen so I activated my OG till the part came in. The $50 will guarantee you will get a working device.

HTC will replace it for free, I bought the phone from Sprint in March, so it's still in the 1 year warranty even though it was actually manufactured in August.
The strange thing I'm noticing now, is that sometimes the screen goes static, but when I press in that corner, the screen comes back, but it is frozen. The phone seems to freeze a lot now as well.
HTC will replace it for free, I bought the phone from Sprint in March, so it's still in the 1 year warranty even though it was actually manufactured in August. Annoying thing is it takes a minimum of 2 weeks, and I am waiting on a few important calls in the next few weeks. I'm going to buy a used phone on ebay, and then sell it when I'm done.
The strange thing I'm noticing now, is that sometimes the screen goes static, but when I press in that corner, the screen comes back, but it is frozen. The phone seems to freeze a lot now as well. When it's frozen, if I turn the screen off then back on, the static is back. Which almost seems software related. Strange problem.
Update. HTC says the phone is out of warranty and quoted me $290 for repair. I'm guessing this is because I left it S-off? Even though it is clearly a hardware issue...
My next question, is it worth buying a screen online and replacing that, or does the fault go deeper? I can handle the screen replacement, but if there is more wrong, then that is $50 wasted.

anyone experienced this issue?

I would lime to apologize for how long this thread is, please read the whole thing, thanks
I droped my DNA about 1 month ago and the screen cracked, luckily the digitizer was fine but the glass was cracked bad. Then a week later I guess I was to "rough" with my DNA and I screwed up the digitizer. Al I could see was a black screen with some green and purple lines going on it. So I needed to get it replaced, it would cost me around $150. Everything was working, even the screen, I could still feel the vibrations of me trying to put in my passcode, in other words, it could still recognize me puting in touch inputs but I could couldn't see what I was touching. I put in my head phones to listen to music, and it was fine, the sound was clear and everything. 2 weeks later I go to the repair shop to get it fixed, they put on a new screen and it looks brand new. I get home and I notice the side of the screen is messed up because when I try and press the q button on the keyboard it types the lettet w. So as hard as I try to type the letter q, it won't work. Sadly, I didn't test out my earpiece or the headphone jack. Now I take it back and they order a new LCD and digitizer. I come back in a couple of days so they can put it on the screen works fine. The next day I try to call one of my friends but I notice there was a problem. When I call the screen goes as normal, but when I take the phone away from my head, the screen doesn't come back on. No matter how hard I tried to get it back on, it would get back on. Worst, the earpiece didn't work. I couldn't hear anyone in a call, they could here me but I couldn't here them. I take it back to the repair place, they order like 10 earpieces but it didn't fix the issue. Now they are saying that the problem is my motherboard. So at this point, the only things that don't work are the proximity sensor, the camera because I get an error (cannot connect to camera error), the earpiece, and the headphone jack because its all staticy when I try to watch youtube videos. Yes I have tried many many headphones but the problem keeps persisting. I forgot to mention that my doubletap2wake doesn't work or my sweep2wake. A couple of days later the guy who owns the shop says the problem is the motherboard. I try to get my money back but I had no luck. What do guys have to say? I came in for one problem to get fixed, then I get another. Worst of all my phone just shuts off at like 50%. I can't restart it or anything, I have to connect it to a charger in order to turn it on? What do you guys have to say? They said that when you open up the phone, the pins that holding things in place break off and people get these issues. Sorry for this being so long.

Sounds like they messed it up bad when they put it back together. What repair service did you use. It might not even be worth bothering with the phone anymore it sounds like they messed it up when they were in there fixing it. Make them fix the entire thing or make them get you a new phone. Judging by how many problems are present you may as well just get a new phone.
Please press the thanks button if I have helped you in anyway.

I do agree it is time to move on to a new phone. Although as much as we want to MAKE THEM get us a new phone because they missed it more then it was already messed up. Not going to happen. I have the HTC one max and I would recommend that and or you could go after the latest HTC device the famous M8

Nope, warranty expired a couple of months ago. The weird thing is, my friend stepped on my phone at school, then when I turned it over, it wasn't cracked and what is more bazzar, everything was working fine, the dt2w, the s2w, the earpiece, the proximity sensor, the camera. Then an hour later, those things were back to not working again.

Here is what I would do in this situation. Sell this phone as a phone that is not working and can be used for parts on eBay. Then with whatever money you can get try and buy a new phone.

Agreed... You should be able to find a DNA on eBay or craigslist for way less than $300.

I just got my DNA from a friend who bought it for $100 used. The only reason he didn't want it is he didn't realize he wouldn't get LTE on AT&T..It's near mint condition...so, they're out there.

The cool thing is that there's more and more great phones for cheap, especially with craigslist!
