H guys, i have a quick question. How can i flash a kernel in HBOOT 1.5? I have flashed with Flash Image GUI and in Fastboot when the kernel is an image(.img), but how can i flash in fastboot if the kernel is a .zip? I'm 2.17 and i want to flash a beta version of Needle @2.1 ghz. Thanks for your help.
What's recovery are you using?

I'm on 4ext right now but the guys says the best is install through the pc or you will end in a bootloop. I tried with flash gui but the phone went in a bootloop as some guys said.
Make a nandroid first. Then wipe cache & davlik cache and then flash the zip.

boot recovery through fastboot using "fastboot boot <recovery name>.img" and flash the kernel.
But IMO , if that kernel didnt worked with Flash Image GUI, it will not work with "fastboot boot <recovery name>.img" either. Just try and post the results.

I have a friend and he showed me the fully working kernel on stock ROM for 2.17 @2.1 ghz!!! Quadrant rises up to 5200+ and antutu up to 8300+. I'm running meanrom right now but Idk if that matters. Also one explanation is that the kernel he gave to me was a wrong one.
From my experience I used the GUI app and thats when the problems started using that app I lost my boot.IMG and that causes the bootloop just flash the Rom the normal way and if you want to flash a different kernal you can just make sure you flash the kernal before rebooting for the first time

i was able to successfully unlock bootloader, was able to flash a rom successfully, used that rom for a good couple days. then i decided to try a new rom InfectedROM Eternity™ | RLS_1.5 | NIGHTLYS | 3.0 & 3.5 | XE BEATS |(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277431&highlight=stock+radio), so i went into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset, system. then i flashed the new rom, new rom loaded but stuck in that roms boot screen.
i went back to recovery wiped everything out again, installed the 1st orig rom i installed, now it just loads to the htc boot screen, & every 30sec or so the htc boot screen would go off & come back on. i went to recovery wiped everything again, did nandroid restore, same results, any suggestions?
what im using:
unlocked bootloader
s -on
hboot 1.50
using teamwin recovery v2.0
Just wipe flash a new rom. Should be good to go

Did you apply any tweaks or different kernels? was your kernal that you are on now compatible with the rom that you had put on? The recovery your on, r you on 2.0 or the second releaese of 2.0?
You could try to reflash your recovery and then try to nandroid back. Or try a different kernel and or different rom and go from there. Kind of hard to diagnose bc not sure of exactly what you have done completely. If all else fails, search for the ruu and re apply the original rom and re root.
From my guess, it sounds as something that was applied didn't apply right. Again, not sure on all the details.. I know its not much to go on but good luck on it.
Look at the bright side, your obviously not bricked and if you have to re apply the original and start over, its not that bad. Just a little time out of the afternoon.
only update i did was the rom
tried about 2 more diff roms, still same issue
hmm.. i also choose the "system format" in twrp, would that have done some damage?
Are you using fastboot to boot into recovery? If not, and you're hboot 1.5, then that's your problem.
And wiping system wouldn't cause any issues as long as you flash a new ROM after wiping the system, before you reboot.

ah ok i manually go into hboot with the down volume + power. did "fastboot reboot-bootloader" into bootloader, wiped out everything & reinstall rom, still same issue.
Try extracting the boot.img from the zip file containing the rom and flashing it with with fastboot binary. If you have S-ON, CWM can't flash the boot partition so you'll get bootloops with any rom that needs a custom initrd.gz. You need to manually flash the boot partition.

Yea, do adb reboot bootloader, and then do fastboot boot recovery.img.
You will need to make sure that you have a copy of your recovery.img in the folder that you are working out of when you issue the fastboot boot recovery.img command

Okay, I'm having the same problem. No matter what I do, I get stuck in a boot loop after installing a rom. Extracting the boot.img and flashing in fastboot doesn't do a thing. My nand backups don't work either (get stuck at restoring boot).
Don't have any problems installing recovery and gaining root. I'm at a loss here. I really want to get my MIUI on!

Are you booting your recovery from fastboot? Fastboot boot recovery.img. If not, boot.img won't flash. It's not necessary to flash the boot.img separately, just boot your recovery from fastboot and you'll be good.

Yup, definitely booting recovery from fastboot.
I had the same problem try to install new recovery VIA fastboot an wipe data/factory reset then flash new ROM u should be all set to go

I know pulling the boot.img from the rom is the old way to do things then wiping in recovery and flashing the boot img in fastboot... Then flash the rom in recovery....
Or you could just fasboot boot recovery.img and wipe and flash the rom... without pulling the boot.img
Doesn't these two methods work just the same minus the fact that fastboot boot recovery is just quicker to flash a whole rom....
This is for the hboot 1.5 users.....
I know about flash gui im just asking about using ADB and recovery flashing.....
Either way works fine doesn't it...>< ?
Yes, booting into recovery vía fastboot allows simultaneous flashing of kernel/ROM.
You may also flash a custom kernel zip file in the same fashion.

Ya that is the advantage of using the recovery via fastboot.... But other then that they both get the job done... Minus that fastboot lets you flash the whole rom instead of taking the boot img out.... along with custom kernels....
One stop shop
There's also a app called Flash Image GUI that works pretty good...
Does anyone know to flash Mikrunny 1.06 on hboot 1.5 if so can you guide through it the times ive tried it hangs on the white htc screen thanks in advanced
I would assume you would flash it like any other rom. Flash kernel using Flash Image GUI or fastboot, then flash rom zip.
Gunna try it later

If you don't have the flash image gui app, just boot your phone into recovery using fasboot. From your computer, open up a command prompt, and navigate to the folder that contains your recovery.img. Then plug your phone in, adb reboot bootloader. Then it will be in fastboot. From there, type fastboot boot recovery.img (or whatever the name of your recovery.img is). Then your phone will boot to recovery and you can flash anything you want like normal. No need to flash the kernel separately or anything like that.
Aight thanks was able to flash with flash image gui thanks.

first i hope you made a back up via clockwokmod or twrp and have it saved... the saved backup will have a boot.img file in there, extract that file and put it in the same folder as your fastboot file... then boot into your hboot and load up fastboot and then plug in the data cable so it should now say fastboot usb after on your computer in a terminal window type in
fastboot flash boot boot.img
that should restore your boot.img file so it doesnt loop...

Open the zip file of the ROM with winRAR. Copy the boot.img from it to your fastboot folder(folder which you have used while rooting your phone. It should have files like fastboot.exe, adb.exe etc). . Now boot your phone in bootloader (vol down+power button).
select fastboot. Connect to PC. Now open up Command prompt and navigate to your fastboot folder in command prompt. Type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" . Then reboot your phone.

He is still on leedroid ROM with stock kernel . As he had not used the fastboot method before, his kernel is still the same meaning kernel from leedroid ROM isnt flashed to his phone. So flashing stock kernel again will not work.
alot of ROMS are built with stock kernels
it worked and yes im useing Lee Droid_3D_GSM_v5.3.0 and the kernal is LeeDroid_Evo-3D-GSM_v5.3.8-1..89GHz.in all my flashing this was the first time i got a bootloop and it drive me crazy man what would i do without you guys thanks thanks thanks

If you are flashing a ROM that contains the same kernel as your current one, then you can flash the rom.zip directly from recovery as if you are s-off. No fastboot, no flash image gui needed if kernels are same.
jslim28 was facing bootloop issue and the reason was a different kernel.
If leedroid ROM contains a stock kernel, he would not have faced bootloop at all.
I found out what went wrong I flash warms Rom and I found out that its a multi device ROM and it contains three kernels and I flashed it using GUI app and it flashed so i didn't like the ROM at all and i decided to go back to my daily driver and that's when i found out that it completely wiped my boot.IMG when flashing back to Lee's ROM so if your using the GUI app to flash the kernel be very careful and if the ROM contains three kernel's it doesn't let you choose which kernel you want to flash it choose for you and that's knot good

Hi guys. I have a really weird problem especially cause I have successfully done ruu.exe many times without any problems. But now my evo won't boot even after ruu.exe finished succeffully, have tried multiple times. Just to mention that months before I did this ruu, I've installed a custom kernel "MiRaGe" and everything was good, till a couple days ago when I tried to boot into 4ext recovery and it didn't boot at all, tried 3-4 times, no luck, but the rom was working fine. (I haven't tried to boot to 4ext since installing a custom kernel) Now I relocked my phone to install ruu.exe, it finished successfully, but can't boot now. I have also unlocked bootloader again and have flashed recovery and still couldn't boot to recovery. Then I relocked and did ruu.exe again, but still no luck with booting to rom. Also I've tried factory reset in bootloader after finishig ruu.exe and the same thing.

Yeah and I've tried "fastboot boot recovery.img" command to boot to recovery, it was success but again the phone restarts. And just to mention that I've also tried cwm recovery but the result is the same.
I suppose that my evo is a true brick now :/

Try 4ext recovery, fastboot install recovery 4extimg.img and after that reboot into recovery. If it enters recovery install a close to stock ics rom, with 4ext smart flash enabled or extract the boot.img from the rom and install it through fastboot (fastboot install boot boot.img).
I can provide you the latest 4ext recovery img, pm me if you need it.

Already did that with 4ext and cwm but none of them won't boot to recovery, but for the rom, i did ruu.exe after flashing recovery (that won't boot) and after relocking, then I unocked bootloader and flashed boot.img from the same ruu.zip, but no results, bootlooping. I think nothing can be done, it's a brick.

You flashed the ruu with the exe though windows or through sdcard? Did you try to remove the sdcard? Try fastboot wipe or format recovery before installing the new img.
