ok before i start yes i looked at the forums and tried but for some reason its not working. i have already gotten it to work once and then went back to another rom. but now i wanna go back lol. im a rom jumper. but im thinking im trying to use the wrong rom download. not really sure. somebody help. thanks
What is happening? What steps have you taken? Any errors that you noticed..??
If you're coming from an ICS ROM, you might need to flash the Old Firmware patch as well, AFTER you flash whichever GB ROM you want.
Old Firmware Patch Here
then flash the kernel provided with the ROM
is this what you did?
if there's a file on your SD card called Clean ROM it should have the patch in it. Flash from recovery.
thanks guys, i finally got it done i just forgot i posted on this a couple days ago, heres what i did that finally worked, because before when i tried to flash the boot.img zip it would say mainver error.
1. REFLASHED THE LEAK ICS RUU COMPLETELY.
2. UNLOCKED HTCDEV.
3.DOWNLOADED STOCK ROOTED ROM LATEST ONE FROM SCOTT. WITH THE RIGHT BOOT.IMG.
4. PUT ROM AND BOOT.IMG ON MY SD CARD
5. FLASHED CUSTOM RECOVERY ARMON RA OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED.
6. WIPED ALL DATA/ FACTORY RESET.
7.FLASHED THE STOCK ROOTED ROM.
8. WENT TO DEVELOPMENT ON THE RECOVERY, SELECTED REBOOT TO BOOTLOADER.
9. THEN WHILE IN FASTBOOT USB MODE, I INSTEAD OF OPENING THE ZIP PM86IMG, I OPENED SCOTTS TOOL CLEANFLASH AND FLASHED THE BOOT.IMG THAT WAY, AND IT DIDNT GIVE ME NO MAINVER ERROR AT ALL. REBOOTED. PROFIT
There was no need to re-flash the ICS RUU and the boot.img needs to be flashed from the PC you're using, no need to copy it to the SD card. Looks good otherwise.

Isn't that for running ICS on the old firmware and not the other way around?

I am not sure about that patch, but there is a patch you need to run if your on the new firmware trying going back to GB. Otherwise, your SD card is messed up .

FYI - That's the patch for installing ICS on the old firmware, not installing GB on new firmware....
This is the patch for reverting back to GB after installing the latest ICS leak - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24251716&postcount=1582

First time rooting / installing rom quick question
Looking to flash phone to villianrom 3.0 from what i read on the 2.4 version older posting it says to root with CF-root first. In the new 3.0 version posting it says it includes Ninphetamine kernel and the instructions assume you have clockwork mod already and can install zip from sd, Do i still need to CF-root before running 3.0 or does the Ninphetamine kernel Root automatically from the 3.0 zip??
Thanks
You need first of all a kernel wit CWM then you can flash custom firmwares through it from a .zip-file on your sd.
The new version will bring root with it through the kernel but you are not able to flash it unless you have CWM if it comes as a .zip-file
So for the first time flash a rooted kernel that includes CWM through "Odin" and then you are free to flash anything you want through CWM.
Hope that answers your question.

I have rooted my phone and copied villianrom to my sd card.
When I go through CWM and delete wipe does that also wipe my root?
When I try to install the ROM i keep getting error messages
Did you install the Ninphetamine kernel first...
No good complaining its not working if you skip steps....
What kernel did you flash to get CWM ?
Should all work fine if you follow the steps presented in the VillainRom post...

im not to familiar with Frankenstein kernels. what you should of done is rooted first your phone with one of the CF kernels..do that through odin..that will get your phone rooted..once you do that then you can flash any rom you like but always follow the guide from the thread of the rom you going to flash
EDIT: if you flash CF-root your rooted..go to development original and go on the thread and follow the guide...its through odin if i remember well its been a while lol but once you do that you will have all the perks of been rooted...
once you do that download the rom you want and just flash away through recovery or CWM manager....but do your reading and back up your rom first before you do flash

Ok think I am getting it now, not sure why I am so stupid this time as I have rooted my Hero and Orange San Francisco first time around.
One last thing.
Is ROM Manager and CWM the same?
I have ROM Manager installed and my phone is rooted, can I not just flash the CF-ROOT from my sd card?
Instructions - If you already have CF-Root
- Copy the zip file to your SD card
- Stop sharing SD card with computer over USB, unplug the cable, etc
- Applications -> CWM -> Flash kernel. Select the ZIP file on your SD card.
- Done
I think RomManager is just an app that can flash roms, do backups and other things by using CWM.
But I'm not that familiar with Rom Manager so I don't know much about it.
As I said I don't know what things you can do with RomManager but I would flash the kernel with Odin, thats the save way.
For the instructions...I think that means if you have a previous version of CF-Root and already have CWM.

If you're HBoot 1.4, you don't necessarily need to do the workaround that 1.5'ers use, but the same method works.
1) Install FlashImage GUI (either buy from market or find the apk file on XDA)
2) Select option to flash recovery image.
3) Locate recovery image of choice. You do NOT need to rename anything.
4) Flash recovery image.
5) Reboot to recovery to confirm image flashed correctly.
Those 5 steps should get you a new recovery. Let me know if you encounter any issues. This new CWM Touch Recovery seems to be working fine so far, I've tested a majority of the functions so far and have had no issues yet.
Is this better than Twrp 2.0 just need someones opinion on it. Are there any other features which makes it must have?

Sounds good, but I think ill wait a month before using to make sure no one finds any serious problems with it
Also, there should be an easy PG86IMG.ZIP made for this, thats how I have ALWAYS done all firmware and recovery flashes and never had a problem. It was the right way before all this flash image stuff.

Haven't experienced any bad flashes on a few test runs yet, but as mentioned earlier in this thread, USB storage mount doesn't work, so any files you need to push you'll need to go through the ADB route until a revised version of this recovery image is created.

Guys, just to reiterate....
1) Mount USB storage does not work
2) Charging via recovery does not work
If you want to flash a ROM directly through the recovery, you need to rename the ROM zip to "update.zip" w/o the quotes. PITA, but that's the workaround if you do not wish to go through ADB mounting.
i actully went back to twrp 2.0 cause my phone shut off by it self after i flashed cwm touch recovery.. my phone never does that.. so i went back to twrp just to be safe..plus there was kno download bar.???
I rolled back to older version 4 of cwm not a fan of twrp 2.0 tho. Nice features but has some annoying issues lol twrp 2.0

Hi all, Just curious, Im running S-on, latest firmware 3.16, 1.12.11.1119 with TWRP 2.3.3 and had been running MeanBean since 2.9 and Mikey has done a fantastic job, Rom running absolutley flawless. My question is, I get the MeanBean OTA and keep downloading and installing them, is this ok? I keep reading people having all kinds of issues and am begining to be hesitant now when the MeanBean OTA indicator pops up, but the latest 3.03 dirty flashed just fine. Thanks again to Mikey and all the developers!

OTA
You should be fine. After it downloads it boots into TWRP anyway so it does automatically what you would do manually, so I wouldn't be hesitant at all doing it that way.
Why are you still S-on?

NEVER EVER NEVER EVER take an OTA if you don't know exactly who the source of the OTA is. It can unroot your phone if you take the wrong one.
I wasnt sure if I could go S-Off with the latest Firmware. What is the best method?

Only thing I'm hesitant of, is if I got a good download. I always check my MD5, I'm not sure if the OTA updater does that. When downloading directly on the phone I've gotten many bad downloads. I usually d/l on the computer and Airdroid to the phone and check the MD5 in ES File Explorer.

You can find the zip file downloaded through OTA Updater by opening ES File Explorer to sdcard/OTA-Updater/download and check the MD5 from there.
I wasnt sure if I could S-Off with the latest Firmware and what method to use. TWRP seemed like it worked around it and Mean has been running great, so I left it S-on. I already bricked a phone once and luckily HTC fixed it for me at no charge.

Dirty Racun says it will handle all Hboots. I say do it. Just PRECISELY follow instructions. Make sure all the drivers and software required are properly updated and you're on a compatible OS version.

Once OTA updater prompts you to install, simply click cancel, go into ES file explorer and find the ROM that just downloaded, verify MD5 is good. If it is (which it should be, I personally have never run into an issue with OTA updater) then just bounce into recovery and flash the ROM you just downloaded.

CMW recover doesnt recoginise micro sd cards and no matter what i try that PA rom wont load. So now I feel I have a very expencise paper weight and I'm dieing of worry here. PLEASE any help in this issue would be much appreciated!

If you are using cwm chances are you are on the ics bootloader. To check look where the nvidia logo is when you turn it on. If it is bottom center it is ics, bottom right is jb.
Now go to the twrp thread and then to their website and get twrp for your bootloader (prob ics) and flash in fastboot. Now you can flash from external sd.

Thanks flumpster! I ended up finding an emergency file transfer that uses fastboot. You're solution would have been simpler but in the end its back up and running with a JB bootloader and rom now :victory:

Never mind, easy find.
Fixed, but newbie question
I reverted back to CM10 by pushing a the ROM in adb.
I was hoping to try things over, but as a newbie I am not sure how (really, when) to install the bootloader necessary for 4.2.
I know baked bean requires the offical firmware from ASUS, which I have, but when do I install it, before or after the ROM?

Flash the ASUS JB rom first. it should update your bootloader and allow you to boot custom JB roms from then on.
Thanks. If I install the ASUS firmware will I will lose root?
