Sony Japan has announced to release the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
update for its Tablet S and Tablet P devices by the end of April. It is most likely
will be a phase-wise roll out and India-based Tablet S/P owners can expect the
update by same time. Sony tablets will also get a new Small Apps feature that
will let the users to pull certain applications on top of another app already running.
New Android 4.0.3 ICS update for the Sony tablets is expected to bring several
improvements include better multi-tasking. Sony will provide a new Recopla
app to stream the TV programs directly to the tablet over WiFi network. The
Recopla app will also be able to control Sony branded Blu-ray Disc recorders and Sony's Google TV.

With the Android 4.0.3 ICS, Sony tablets will also get a new feature called
Small Apps. Under this feature, users will be able to open and drag apps on the
top of already open apps, giving users a computer-like experience.
For instance, if the Google Maps app is already open, then the user can fire up
the Calculator app and use on top of the Google Maps app.
There is no task switching involved.
Several developers are skeptical about the actual performance of this Android
4.0 ICS update for Sony tablets. The Sony engineers are likely to use the old
Linux 2.6 based Android Kernel with the Android 4.0 ICS update. The changes
visible would be on the battery life and power management. As of now, there is
no clarity whether the Android 4.0.3 ICS for Tablet S and Tablet P will actually
bring the optimisations available through the Linux 3.0 based Android kernel or not.
Nonetheless, it is indeed good news for the users to receive Android 4.0 ICS
update for Sony Tablet S and Tablet P.

Dont believe Sony
Sony stated that ICS would be here at the beginning of April, then mid April now the end of April.
I have said it before and will say it again Sony burnt their fingers with this tablet and will not be making any major changes to it. I regret selling my Asus Transporter to buy this hunk of junk.
Im puzzled why you sold your Asus for a sony.
I was under the impression that they first stated early February.
It seems to be taking them longer than other developers despite having a large infrastructure.
I'm desperate for it seeing as I have a bricked device.

Interesting that Sony are likely to stick with Kernel 2.6 since 3.0 was quite a jump and these days I use 3.3 on many of my PCs and devices, and it's been very good so far. I guess some of Sony's custom additions might need some of the old 2.6 "legacy" features...

Sony have rolled out the Xperia phones ICS updates, so they will send it out soon.
This is the reason why some companies dont release a date until they are sure of it. Your kind of posts come up on forums and deter buyers, just because of misinformation. I love my tablet, why is that? Cause it does what i want it to. And the functions Sony said it has are on it and work to my standards. They never stated that it will be out at the start/middle of april, that was a rumor/misinterpretation of the message("It will be out sometime in April"). It is now confirmed that it will be the end of April and you can be sure of it, if they dont release it, then you can post something like what you have.

That's probably excessive. A well optimised 2.x.x can often far outperform the newer kernels on Android. In fact, Linux 3.3 is almost exclusively pushing the changes from the Android kernel into the mainline one...
For the majority of users in the far majority of situations, you will never even notice the different kernels, so theres no need to go sending devices back because the number is not the one you wanted. Just sayin'
well said.
I'm running ICS beta on my Moto atrix, which is using a 2.6 kernel. guess what, its much quicker/smoother (esp browser) than gingerbread, even without a 3.x kernel. So personally I don't care as long as its ICS as we know it.
The sony additions are useful for some of us. like the native dualshock support

I have no clue why or who ever in Samsung development messed this up, but when you stream flash videos in full screen the notification does not auto hide. To me this is completely unacceptable as it ruins the possibility of "full screen" and it can actually damage the oled in these phones.
I think this fix should be a MUST for any developer currently making rooms for this phone. The only from currently that I know of that fixes it is Cyanogen.. but I do want a stable ICS and oh boy can't we all dream of a perfect aosp from... dreams of super fast clean friendly user experience...

AS said above, it looks like your are running ICS which is in beta and has not been officially released, you are complaining about an unfinished, unofficially released BETA rom.
You may need some time of reflection and a lot of reading to understand what you are doing......
Why be a dev if your goal is half ass roms?
You answer your question yourself why build a rom based on a half assed buggy beta release .
Put in a very simple way . Why waste time on a buggy beta build that may be very different come release day .
When ICS is released and if a dev thinks its worth fixing your problem i am sure they will .

OK it sounds like no one understood , I will attempt to explain this better. This is NOT an ICS problem this problem is with EVERY rom including stock update strait from Kies. I went as far as contacting Samsung to get a fix, but as you can see in my profile I live in the US and the US Samsung will not help me with my UK phone. Why everything between us is so divided beats me but still the issue remains.
As I stated currently the only rom that fixes it is Cyanogen but just as JJ stated why use a buggy beta when the release will be much different/better. Also I am currently running ICS and have not encountered a single bug. Everything works perfect except for Samsung's stupid attempt to burn in my screen. I don't know about everyone else but I paid $580 for this phone and the last thing I want is a permanent" 3g" on my screen...

Then give us more information. Saying that streaming videos don't go full screen is no where near enough. What ROM, website, browser etc are you using because the last time I tried this (Not long after the S2 was released) it worked just fine. I tried a 720p video from megaupload and it went full screen just fine. Same with youtube/youtube app. Give more information, not attitude. Also, i'd wager than there is zero chance of your display burning in a 3G icon. Perhaps the full notification bar if you use MIUI/a white or light theme but I highly doubt the majority of people will experience any burn in, never mind such a small specific burn in.
Fair enough.. more info. I usually run completely stock and decided to play around with ics. A main site I stream with is twitch.TV (I am a big starcraft2 player and use the pro streams to get better) while I'm at work I watch for hours sometimes 7 hours straight. This WILL cause burn in.
When the problem occurs:
Watching ANY true flash video online(not YouTube app) while in full screen mode in any browser or Rom besides cyanogen.
If you don't believe me test it yourself. Go to twitch.TV pick a stream let the video load and click the full screen button. If you have a rom that the notification bar disappears let me know and you won't hear.me "moan" anymore.
Or maybe one of you super nice Brits can call UK Samsung and get an official fix. The number is 08702420303.

Download the diff, check for relevant changes (there's not many for fullscreen) and mod your own browser. Before you ask, I'm not going to hold your hand on this one, and am not willing to do it for you either (I don't use an ICS ROM).
Not asking for any hand holding or hand outs for that matter.. one last question can it be done completely from the phone?
Actually nvm that browser mod will not work with ics. Even states in that post "should be comparable with 2.3.x roms.

Sure it will, you just have to be willing to put in some work. Namely, as I already said, downloading the diff, checking for relevant changes (I think there's only two changes relating to full screen) and getting them into your Browser.apk. You're probably going to need to do some reading.

Those that will get it by end of the year:
Update: HTC's US Facebook page also announced the update, and added the Rezound, Vivid, Amaze 4G and EVO Design 4G to the list of devices that should receive ICS later this year.
Not to contradict what you’re saying but. The HTC US Facebook page is saying “coming later this year “ for some devices and to “Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Cream Sandwich releases in the coming weeks”

It has nothing to do with the specs. It has to do with the number of people that will complain and whether HTC wants to keep those people happy.
There are tons more phones out there than there are tablets. Also, HTC probably lost a lot of money on the Flyer and made money on the phones.
If HTC was working on ICS for the Flyer, why would it just not say so?
I think HTC thinks they just released Honeycomb for us and that we should be happy with that.
I'm not optimistic.
ICS needs to come to the Flyer and View tablets. Cheap phones shouldn't take priority over well made tablets. Phones are just small devices u drop, misplace, break, and replace. I go through phones like crazy (not really), but I actually take care of my tablet. HTC should see that quite a few people are tuning into the Flyer and View since the firesales. Sucks that they lost money, but the upside is that HTC now has more tablets in more households. That's potential profit off of software and content- like Amazon's approach. HTC just needs to pump out some more weather widgets and make their money back. We are ready to consume and purchase some content, but we would be more apt to do so on ICS.
The Jetstream also isn't listed, and given the price tag that has been attached to it, and it's current position as HTC's premier tablet, one would really think it would definitely see ICS. Since it's not listed, that leads me to believe that the list of devices that will be upgraded in the OP's link isn't a complete device list, but rather just their phone list. So I wouldn't rule out the Flyer/View/Jetstream receiving ICS based upon that particular list.
HTC has bigger problems. They are losing market share and falling behind. They were number one for a long time , but have been passed by Samsung and Motorola and left as road kill. Sales and profit are down and fixing old devices up with new software doesn't add to sales or profit.

I like your point dude! That might just be the case! Hoping for the best!
Bear in mind too that its not just a matter of ICS, its Sense as well. They've already started on a version of Sense 4 for phones, which presumably is built upon ICS. I would guess that once you've done the ground work for one set of phones, porting it to others is the lesser job.
However creating an updated version of Sense for tablet on ICS is a whole new job. Its a lot harder to create a new version of sense that it is to port an existing one.
Hence my guess is that if ICS for Flyers is going to happen, it'll be after the phone rollouts, at least partially behind anyway.
There's no point in not giving us an ICS update. The point of ICS is to match the OS on phones & tablets. As a manufacturer, why wouldn't you update your only 2 tablets? Who cares about how many they've sold, or if they lost money. If HTC want to keep customers they'll do it. When my contract is up, I'll upgrade to another tablet, hopefully another HTC. I like them more than my laptop, plus i don't need a smartphone since I do all my data functions on my Flyer. If HTC want to keep me as a customer, at the least, they better do the right thing! For a company losing money they can't afford to lose customers

I wouldn't take the absence of the Jetstream on the list as any indicator either way of what is going to happen with the Flyer. The Jetstream is AT&T only. And as anyone on AT&T knows, they are agonizingly slow to release ROMs, and the ROMs often come long after updates arrive for other similar devices on other carriers. Even if the Jetstream gets ICS, I would fully expect it to show up long after other devices.

The full (unsubsidized) price for a flagship-spec HTC phone is almost the same as the Flyer when it was released. For instance the Vivid is $550 versus $600 for the Flyer. Rezound ($650) is actually is more than the Flyer "full price". More importantly, HTC sells vastly more phones than it does tablets. I suspect tablets make a tiny percentage of HTC's profits, and that's not going to change anytime soon. Besides, HTC phones are well-made also, not just their tablets.

Something is wrong with the pics in our post. But I happened to see the "leaked" pis of Sense 4.0 in other places. Its from the HTC Enveavor, which is a phone. Albeit one with a beefy screen size (4.7") and resolution (1280 x 720).

I used mobile odin to install the att stock ics and now my phone will not charge.
I get the lighting bolt symbol but there is no animation and the phone will not charge the battery. Nothing has changed on the hardware end and what used to be no problem is now a pita.
Anyone have a soloution and running into this?
Yesterday after I flashed, I charged my phone for an hour and the % stayed the same. It seemed to get better later on (Although I shutdown to charge) but I haven't tried charging since.
I've been running it since last night (also used Mobile Odin) but haven't had any issues charging. I've had it connected to a wall charger, USB cable, and an external battery thing from Monoprice - all have worked great.
Could possibly be a bad flash or something random like that.
I also used the Mobile Odin method and have not had any issues with charging using wall charger or usb. I also noticed that there is no charging animation, just the lightening bolt. Maybe you had a bad flash?
I got it working after turning it off and taking the battery out.

Given some glaring bugs in this build (battery stats FC and repeating alarms don't work), I don't think this is the final build of ICS for us. But it is supprisingly stable build. I have no problem use it as my daily driver.
Plus the fact that now we have screen display mode options in settings reinforces my belief that AT&T hasn't had a chance to water down this build yet

Thanks for this! It worked for me although I think I'm going to try an ICS rom instead.
Another point of fact, what we have was released by Samsung and it was not specifically for this phone. AT$T had nothing to do with it. Stable is a pipe dream until there is an official AT$T i777 release. Calling this 'stock AT$T ICS' is misleading. The devs here are great, but it has only been a week since source dropped.
No, UCLC2 leaked here is specifically for AT&T I777 with all AT&T bloatware in tow. It is not some kind of I9100 transplant

someone needs to check their facts... yes, samsung built it but it was built for the i777 specifically, Not another phone. And I'm sure AT&T had something to do with it considering their bloat was already on it. I'm sure it's also one of the builds they are testing.
You also have been telling people there is no real ICS, well what do you consider real ics? One that's officially pushed out by AT&T? the version with a UI overlay, and bloat? real ICS? haha Real ICS is AOSP IMO. Pure android, not crap the carriers push out.
It has only been about a week since source dropped but already the development on AOSP roms like cm9 and aokp is going well. There are a few bugs but nothing major (depending on your needs) I dont mind waiting for video capture to work on AOSP as I never use my video cam on my phone anyway. I do use netflix and crackle but not having them work at this moment is not enough reason not to use it. I'm actually really impressed how stable these roms are considering source dropped a week ago. A deal breaker for me is calls not working, buttons not working, wifi and gps not working.. everything else I could pretty much live with until it gets sorted out
What I said was there's no real ICS for our phones, meaning what we have right now is someone elses cobbled together i9100 port of ICS, not an official AT$T release of ICS for the i777. A leak is not an official release, BTW.
This forum has suddenly exploded with posts of people having issues because they are in too big a hurry to try something that is still not quite ready and/or they do not know what they are doing. It is overwhelming the forum with ICS issues and we don't even have a true ICS version yet. There should be a single thread in Dev for each of these ported ROMs where early adopters can look for help instead of clogging up General and Q&A with all this BS. I think all the ICS threads confuse people into thinking there is an actual release instead of just these ported ROMs and makes them try something they shouldn't. Just sayin'.

No one is claiming that UCLC2 is official release of ICS but it certainly is not an i9100 port. It is an early build by Samsung specifically for i777 and leaked. Read.
Just putting this out there, the battery life off my ICS was initially horrible.
After resetting the phone I have 91% battery after 9hrs off charge, have not been doing a lot granted but that is still pretty damn good.
I think the main problem with the leak was that it included a boot loader and people that installed it lost root and cwm.
It wasn't until task and others cleaned it up and removed the boot loader that it really became more user friendly.
Personally I waited for the CM9 official nightlies for our model to start a few days ago before jumping on ICS. I really liked touchwiz until I tried CM7. Not sure if I would ever go back now to be honest.

As many of us Captivate owners learned, these 'leaks' are rarely more than just Samsung's way to get over-eager users to do much of their debugging for them. Gotta love the early adopters.

I'm certainly very happy with the Captivate GB leak running on my phone back in Aug 2011. The official GB release didn't come until Feb 2012, long after I sold my Captivate. So, ultimately it is up to individuals to decide whether or not to install leaked ROMs. It's more benefits than hassles. I don't think we will see official release until the end of 2012 or even 2013. I don't think I will still be using my SGS2 after this summer.

Actually, it has been rather quiet comparing to the crying help for bricked phones by flashing non-i777 ROMs. All they complain are not be able to root etc.
So I got ICS 4.0.3 now on my Xperia Neo V and I'm pretty disappointed of what Sony had brought on the table.
Why?
1.) The update was simply just the OS and not the overall design (UI and icons), functions, and performance (same with ICS Beta).
2.) ICS is still a bit laggy. I still have to use an OCed kernel to get the most of Sony ICS 4.0.3
3.) Standard application such as messages, clocks, world time, calendar, calc, are still GB 2.3.4 based apps. Perhaps they were just modified to run on ICS.
Although the dialer and phonebook seems to be updates but still the icons are not sleek and not revamped.
4.) Out-call screen is too dull and boring (its not sleek anyway, still based on GB 2.3.4), on the other hand in-call screen seems to be updated.
5.) Media player is still based on GB 2.3.4 and I can say its too old school, and I'm not liking it.
5.) WiFi Direct was removed. Why????
My Expectations for Sony ICS:
Given that Sony have already launched Xperia S, then why not put all those sleek icons and UI enhancements on Sony ICS? Isn't really hard to copy and paste them? I said copy and paste because I myself was copying and pasting all the UI images of Xperia S and modifying apks of the recently released ICS for 2011 Xperia.
C'mon guys people are waiting for something new for them to play and make use of it. Is this what we get because of your lower priced phones than with your competitors?
In Contrast with Other Phone:
Recently HTC released, HTC One V which has the same and exact chipset, ram, processor with Neo V. And I was able to use One V personally for 3 days and its not laggy. A new revamped UI was also implemented and there are new features than of with their previous builds. Take note that One V has ICS 4.0.3 with HTC Sense 4.0 (which I believe a resource hog - as they say).
My point here is that why HTC can but why Sony can't? I know you'll just say that "go ahead and move on to HTC" but what I am telling you guys (especially the developers or forum mods)
why can't Sony build a much sleek UI, new features and functions, and a great & optimized ICS. Hello? We are not only waiting for ICS we are also waiting for a new & fresh user experience.
Conclusion
Perhaps most of you guys here won't agree with me but to be honest I've been using Sony (Ericsson) products since I'm on high school. What I am trying to say is that please Sony do hear what your customers are saying.
They are not dumb and we do want changes most especially, you guys are Sony and you are not HTC nor Samsung, please MAKE A CHANGE. If you would like to be a leader in mobile technology then try to consider our opinions.
That's all.

As a Neo V user from Turkey certainly im not one the "most of the guys". Totally agree with you...
Totally agree with all the points, been using Sony Ericsson mobiles from 2006 and kinda disappointed about the update. They claim about a total gui revamp while in reality its just an icon change in apps :/ About the lag well try some games and apps,it will start going super slow :/ I see you copy/pasted this same in the thread I made in sony site, and still no reply from any dev or mod..lol
About new apps not being there well their message must be if you want all the new stuff buy a new 2012 device, which is totally marketing bs.Anyway disappointed with Sony. This is why if you wanna mod should buy a Google Nexus, damn nobody told me this before buying Neo V
htc fanbois go buy htc phones. even apple fanbois do the same.
as for ICS, im pretty pleased to run it SMOOTHLY after dealing with the apps arround.
210MB free ram on stock ics with stock kernel. even GB didnt have that kind of goodness.
just go in settings apps and use the awesome feature in ICS to actually DISABLE apps u dont use so they wont get even loaded.
then re-evaluate the rom
as for gaming, its not sony's fault that app developers didnt update their apps to face ICS changes. Just check the chart (stats are from march 2012) and see where are u in this.
yeah, in the 2.4% OF ALL ANDROIDS OUT THERE

core system ics based everything else comes from gb
why they didn't use NXT UI for ics
simple answer they want a quick ics upgrade so can't be done like already promised timeline
anyway I hope they reading those topics

Well,
yesterday i flashed the leaked Rom from HongKong and i was quite surprised.
the rom runs really smooth but i'm facing 2 Problems:
when connecting to my wifi at home, the connection of my pc gets disconnected (anybody a idea what that could be?)
and the second thing is that i 3G is not working for me...
but the rest is awesome

I'm really disappointed in this. Not just the seemingly lack of effort from Sony's part, they said that they would help to 'optimise' the software before release, and instead I have options to disable ANT+ or Facebook Inside Xperia. Even with those removed, and using tweaks and whatnot, I have only about 100 - 150 mb of RAM, usually under 100 @Gjole86: If you can tell me what you disabled to get 210 mb of RAM, could you please share ><

Of course, coming soon could mean anything!
Yeah, but when for Verizon? I really hope soon is really soon, and not in a month or so. Hate it when they do the teaser stuff, I would rather have it be a dead drop one day rather than a teaser.
Just my thoughts.
Verizon has to, um, "test" all updates for at least 5 weeks, I think it was, before they can safely release one. To protect their network - which is the largest, most reliable 4gLTE network !
If anything upsets Verizon during testing, they send the update back to LG and restart the testing later.
Generally there will be a soak text preceding the actual release, so we'll most likely find out that lollipop is actually coming when we start getting a soak test. Rarely does an update not get released once it enters soak phase. They won't pish anything to a phone (even in a soak) without being reasonably sure it's ready for release
A lot of people from different countries that have the stock release of lollipop complain about battery drain from idle and just in general. If that's the case, want nothing to do with this update. Then again if it let's me take videos with my battery burning up and shutting off, then I may take the battery drain, lol!
Verizon needs an extra 4 weeks just to cripple the features they don't want you to have.

The G3 is running pretty nice as it is, and I have become less impatient with the speed of verizon getting the G3 lolipop after seeing some of the early issues that cropped up in 5.0's so far. So for once I can wait for verizon to get us a mostly bug free upgrade this time hopefully.

Yeah, I agree. Really not in a hurry to lose my xposed modules that let me really customize the phone the way I want.
honestly, I'm not highly impressed with lollipop. I think it has a way to go before being truly an upgrade.
I'm holding out for MoonPie.........

It will be interesting to see how the performance is. Might have to start monitoring the S5 forums.
People on the S5 forums are saying that benchmarks are higher! I'm mainly interested in battery life with Project Volta and all.

kit kat was poplular. m&m would be stupid not to co-market. I feel there is more flexibility with xposed. just saying.
and now LL 5.1.. Guess we will see that next year on the G5. I sure wish google could get a hold of these OS versions and quality control it like Apple does.

Hope you are being sarcastic because iOS 8's release has been a disaster. They've done at least three or four post updates since the initial roll out due to numerous issues, including losing radio signal, etc.
It's to be expected when you release a major OS upgrade. Remember, this is going from the 4.x to the 5.x versions. 4.x to 5.x was a major change under the hood, including going from Dalvik to ART runtime. Quite a difference there.
However, it's worse that Apple has had so many issues, considering they control the hardware AND software. And even the iPhone 6's had issues with iOS 8.
Looks like Sprint will be tentatively pushing the lollipop update to the LG G3 on Feb. 16th. We will have to wait and see if Verizon is at the same time which they have been for the Galaxy S5.
Lollipop update for Sprint HTC One M8 set for Feb. 13, LG G3 on Feb. 16 | Android Central

I'm only referring to the consistency of how they update, not the stability of the updates. I just don't like the haphazard way the Android platform is updated to the end user, and how it is held hostage by the carriers whims..

Okay, that makes sense.
Not sure what can be done about the carriers whims. I'm sure Apple still has to work with them as well, but since it's across similar hardware, there probably isn't as much "apprehension" by the carries possibly? That or Apple knew how to "bully" the carriers into a contract that allows Apple to pretty much do as they please. LOL.
