Charging issues - Motorola Droid RAZR

I've never had any problems charging my Razr. Last night I plugged it in my charger and nothing happened. I turned the phone off, turned it back on, plugged in charger and still nothing. I then turned off the phone and plugged in the charger. The phone turned on but didn't charge. It seems the phone recognizes the charger, but won't charge. Maybe defective phone or battery? I would assume Verizon would replace the phone. Don't ya think?

Had u tried car charger? (lighter charger? How do u call it?)

I've tried 2 motorola chargers, so two different USB cables. Another off brand chargers, and a car charger. All to no avail. Very confusing to me.

Okay
1. Power off ur phone
2. Power and vol +/- (~10 secs)
3. Navigate to BP Tools (vol down), enter on it (vol up)
This will enable charge module (battery icon with an ?)
4. Plug wall charger and tell me what happens.
Cheers

By hitting vol up will select BP Tools? If so when I do that the phone starts up and I plugged in wall charger. Still nothing. Thanks for the suggestion though. Hope Verizon will do something to fix it.

Battery is at 30% and I'm getting a replacement overnighted. Would they check to see if I'm rooted and make me pay for the replacement? The phone is in great shape. Anyway I can unroot with battery at 30%?

Could be a problem with the USB connection, obviously, but try putting a kettle pressure on the connection, i used to have issues like that with my blackberry back in the day. Maybe you could get it charged enough to Dartmoor back to stock.

So I received my first warranty phone Friday. It worked for two hours then wouldn't send/receive text or calls. I guess the radio in it wasn't any good. I went into the store again and they waived the overnight fee and I got other warranty phone yesterday. It worked fine and I was glad. I went to charge it last night and it wouldn't charge. My car charger worked fine. It seems to be a USB issue since no USB chargers will make the phone charge. How many times do they have to send me a phone before I can complain that I want a brand new phone?

Typically, Verizon has had a 3 strike rule. You'll have to go through phone support, since this almost never occurs at the store level. When there's been 3 complaints over the same problem, and you're vocal...insistent but not rude... you can get a new phone. If you're not getting results, ask to speak to the customer retention department.

My wife razr maxx wwont charge or turn on,there sending her a replacement phone over night,is it going to be a refurbished phone?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium

Yes. I asked the guy if these a refurbished phones and he said, "They are certified like new phones." So essentially refurb. This is my 4th Razr, 3rd refurb, and it seems to be in working order. Maybe I won't have to ask for a new phone after all.

My wife razr maxx crap out two days ago and now my razr maxx completely died today and won't charge or turn on,now there's a white led light on right side of phone, does anybody have a fix?I don't want to send it in and get a refurbish phone, please help.

[Q] Charging issue when phone is turned off

Hi,
I hope I am on the right thread.
This issue started one week ago. I have a 4.1.83 (no root, no G-blur or any specific customization beside the ) just the stock Atrix phone.
When my phone is turned off, if I try to plug it into the wall with the moto charger the red Motorola logo came on, then disappear then came back on and keep doing that (on and off) - infinite rebooting loop. Before, the battery charge status would come on and the phone would charge fine.
Now it just does this unlimited reboot on the red M logo.
If i turn on the phone without the cable, the phone turns on fine and i can charge it with the wall charger after the phone is booted. But not when the phone is turned off.
Do you have any ideas on what is going on and how to fix it?
Thanks for your help.
Hmm... Is the charger the one specifically designed for your Atrix and you're sure you haven't done any tweaking to the phone?
Absolutely certain. Am using the original Charger and did not try to do anything special with the phone...I did not touch any system file nor tried to tweak anything.
Phone is 'stock' beside few apps I installed several weeks before the problem starts to occur.

If you had rooted, etc. I would say flash sbf and start over, but since you are stock, I would return it for a warranty replacement.
Can I do that even if I have owned it for 3 months?
Thanks!
I have the same exact problem but I have my mobile flashed, plus bought mine from eBay. Should it be a software issue?

You have one year warranty through Motorola. See warranty section in the following:
http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/US-EN/Mobile%20Phones/ATRIX_4G/US-EN/Documents/StaticFiles/ATRIX_LG_68014203002A.pdf
If the phone is defective, you are covered. If it's accidental damage, you would have to use your phone insurance through your carrier.
Can't be accidental...Phone is working perfectly beside the charging issue and so far.
Only issue is it takes 1 full day to charge it from 10% to 100%
Last night I plugged my phone at 9pm (60%). It took 8 hours to have it fully charged...
Thanks for your reply, I guess I 'll check with ATT first :'( and Motorola then....
Did you already try charging with the phone off through USB on your desktop or laptop? Maybe the wall charger is defective.
Do a backup and perform a factory restore to see if it fixes it before shipping it out for warranty.
Goodluck!

your battery and or phone is straight up defective, or something is wrong, needs to be replaced. no way should it take that long to charge. something go out of wack, and it sounds like faulty battery is failing, hence why it wont charge turned off AND takes forever to charge up when turned on.

Raza just died!

Has anyone experienced this?
Got a new micro sim from my provider (O2) and called them up to activate it.
They told me to turn the phone off, wait half an hour and turn it back on and it would be activated.
Waited an hour then tried to turn it on.....nothing!
I connected it to the charger and nothing again, no lights whatsoever.
I have not rooted the phone it is completely stock.
Any ideas?
They say they will replace the phone but as Christmas is coming up the postal service is overloaded and they state that it could take 5 working days for my prepaid return envelop to arrive; that being the case I can see me being without a phone for a long time as they will not despatch a replacement until they recieve the faulty handset!
They suggested I borrow a replacement phone from a friend!
I am the only person I know who has a handset with a micro sim!!!

Most of the O2 stores have the adapter to change your micro sim back to a full sized one.

Update, plugged it back into the charger and am now getting a white LED.
Still can't turn it on though.
if you will go to o2 store they should swap the phone for you?only what the store need to do is make one phone call to head office to get the swapping reference number.

I got the phone through Dialaphone, O2 just provides the access. Tried to see if Phones4U would swap it but even though they are part of the same group it's a no go.
It's like being back in the 80's without a mobile!
White LED means it's charging. Have you tried vol DOWN + power to reset it while you get the white LED? I've heard that works sometimes.

Had a similar experience last night/this morning. Fully charged, unplugged from charger. Set alarm clock, had smart action set to put in airplane mode after midnight. Woke up 2hrs after alarm was set to go off. Phone wouldn't respond to anything, including plugging into charger. I used the pwr/volume dwn for 10 sec. A minute or so later white LED and battery icon showing 60%.
I was rooted with some bloat apps frozen, restored all frozen apps, unrooted. I will try again tonight (with a backup alarm) and see how if maybe it was something I had frozen that caused the lockup.
Raza just died? Viva la Raza!
Just got home to find my return envelope had been delivered. Before I packed it away I thought I would give it another try and suprise suprise it booted!
The battery was flat and I had plugged it into the charger that came with it and got the led back that gave me hope.
I have an idea as to what might have caused this and the only thing I could attribute it to (apart from a fault with the phone) was that I had been using the old charger from my works HTC Sensaton (as it is a lot longer than the one that came with the Razr).
I am sure there are those on here that would know if this could have made any difference, but for me it is the only change I made from a nonj working phone to a working one.
Very happy to have my super smooth Razr back again!
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Dead Rezound?

Sorry if this has been already posted but I kinda need to express my anger. lol
So my rooted Rezound's battery (running CleanROM 2.3) died today while i was working. So being the dude I am I put it on the charger. It's been on a charger for the past 30ish minutes and it still wont turn on or give me any type of led indicator telling me that the phone is being charged.
Before you say "try a different charger or cable" I have, multiple times.
[/RANT]
Advise?
The phone won't charge a that's completely dead right away. Leave it plugged in longer.

There are many threads on this already...
The rezound, mostly ones with a 3.8v battery not the 3.7v batteries cannot charge a dead battery.
Check some of the other threads as there were a bunch of different little tricks people tried. I just don't remember them all.

Sorry to hear about the battery issues. I've heard of alot of people complaining of the same problem. Most just went to Verizon and had them replace the battery but having a phone that dies and won't recharge would be my biggest worry (why is HTC letting these kind of issues happen?).
Some said they fixed the issue by throwing the dead battery in a Thunderbolt for a bit to charge it up. So if you cant find a fix, either have them replace the battery, or take it in the store and ask them to put it in a thunderbolt for like 20 minutes while you wait?
Sorry that I couldn't come up with a better fix for you. I wish you luck.
Honestly I'd take it back to Verizon and get them to replace/fix it.
I just read another post with a possibly fix. I will not be held responsible if it doesnt work or messes something up
Unplug charger
remove battery
plug charger in
insert battery (while charger is plugged in)
except i hit the power with no battery in it idk if it makes a difference but yeah..
^^^ worked for me

I wish I saw this before I paid $14 for the overnight shipment of my replacement.
Mine froze and died while playing a game, then would not charge or turn on at all. In fact, my extended battery was in when it died, and it wouldn't turn on with the standard battery either. When I got my replacement, I tried both and only the extended worked, so I had to go to VZ to get a replacement standard battery. My phone must've used some sort of battery ESP to kill the standard when it died.
Quick side rant and warning: 1. WhyTF am I paying for overnight shipping on a like-new replacement model of a $300 phone that died during normal use? Horse dookie.
2. If you do need a replacement, dont activate a 3g phone during the down time...it kills the SIM card and they dont send another one!
I think I can help
plug your phone into the charger and take off the back cover. Now with the phone plug in take the battery out and put it back in and leace the back cover off now you should see the orange light on the front come on. If this works hit the thanks button.
try the fix listed above and if that doesnt work a verizon store should be able to help you test your battery/phone and order you a replacement under warranty if neccessary
Me personally would wip out some split cables and force that **** on lol but yea batteries can be charged as long as some form of reasonable electricity touch the correct pins....
I had this happen once, my son ran it dead playing games. I think it must have over heated. I was using the extended battery and was able to put the regular battery in and it worked. I did give it a half hour to cool down first...

SGS3 stopped charging...

I've got a problem and it started two weeks ago. Since then I was only able to charge the phone when I plugged it into the charger when turned off. But today even this has stopped working. When I plug it in the battery graphic appears but the circle isn't spinning and when the graphic is gone after 1-2 seconds the screens goes black and nothing happens... it doesn't charge, just dead!

Dead photon (charging issue, no, not the one you're thinking...)

Well kinda...
Similar to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540091
When my phone is plugged into the wall there is no charging light or anything. No white light in any senario. Last night my default battery was at about 9% so I pulled it and used my 2nd battery. No problem. Then I went home, charged the second in the phone went to put the first battery in and nothing. No matter what I do the 1st battery is completely unresponsive. I then go to put the fully charged second battery in the phone AND STILL NOTHING! Left the phone on the charger with battery 1 over night. Neither battery is working again this morning.
Both batteries should be able to boot the phone but I got nothing. Any ideas?
I was about to try the USB cable trick to prime a dead battery, but why? I have a full second battery that still isn't working
GRRRR
Are the battery contacts on the phone clean and in good condition? Could try cleaning the connector with rubbing alcohol. I really don't know what to suggest besides that. Figured I'd reply since this thread as almost 200 views but still no replies.
Hope you can get this figured out but it seems asking a question is kind of pointless now. Unless you are complaining about no ICS you won't get much of a response anymore it appears.

Well some how I had it working for the last month but its back to this again.
Last time it just started working randomly. this time, no dice. I even tried the USB splice charge thing and its not working.
I only get a white light on my photon when plugged into my computer. Nothing from the wall, and there is no way to turn it on. I'm outside of the warranty and sprint didn't have anything to help me at their store.
its been like this for two days. I'm really frustrated.
The only thing I can suggest is to find an external battery charger, and give that a shot.
This works for me.
Strip open the usb cable on your micro usb cable. Connect the positive (red) usb wire to the data neg. (white) wire.
This will be a charge only cable.
This also allows bootstrap from computer usb port.

well.. anyone know of a decent source to get off contract phones? I'm looking for something like a Samsung nexus s 4g for like $100 or so?

Thanks for all the help guys, I did find a Sprint Samsung nexus S 4g off amazon for about $120. Everything seems to be working alright, sold my photon back for a measly $63 to sprint...
That said, the past few days with the nexus having android 4.1 have been great. It really makes me wish that motorola wouldn't have screwed us all over. The stability and speed of stock 4.1 on a single core SOC makes me pretty sad we couldn't have this on the photon, it would have been a beast. A few other things I enjoy more are the non-pentile screen (the AMOLED looks fantastically warmer and more saturated than my gfs bionic- the same screen as the photon) and build quality (yeah, its a plastic-y samsung and I like the build quality, that says something about the poor photon IMO) I would also recommend you put NFC on your future phones "wish-list" as well, I think it'll come in handy and I've already used it at my local walgreens.
Goodbye forever moto. I'll enjoy watching your company be liquidated at the hands of google.

Oh yes, I had to do that recently when my MoPho wouldn't survive long enough to boot up. Of course the wife thought I was a little crazy scavenging for a USB cable no longer needed and cutting it up, but a good feeling when she looks at me thinking "wow."
