[Q] kernel 3.0 work - TouchPad General

I know its been mentioned that develoment is focusing heavily on kernel 3.0. Can someone enlighten me as to why so much imprtance is being placed on 3.0? As far as i know 3.0 doesnt bring anthing radically new to the table from 2.6
Also is there a thread that one can follow to stay updated on the build progress/issues for the kernel? https://github.com/jcsullins/kernel-tenderloin-3.0 appears to be a general repository.

^ fixed. 4.0.4 or bust. the last commit in that very link is 2 months ago... why... why do i even answer

So where can we keep track of the progress made to the kernel? not CM9 but only the kernel?

its the 3.0, with like no work done... in the passed 2 months... you can see a few commits here and there, dating up to like 2-3 days ago... but in the /kernel dir, you will notice its last update was 14 days ago, and it is just a
"Merge branch 'Linux 3.0.21' into msm-3.0 [Rohit Vaswani]". I imagine that 4.0.4 kernels are the main focus.

Try mioptimusone and search the forum for roq (not roqu3). I'm using this kernel and it's the best I've tried so far.
Not sure if Roqu3 is OK with me posting a link...but I hope he doesn't mind people using (and appreciating) his work:

Here is what RoQ wrote...
03/10/2012 - More patches and a new touchdriver courtesy of thachtunganh (ta-dev from kernel) on my repo found last week and forkeĆ³ (made a copy and I assume it will patch suddenly and published as well) then sent me several patches but only left me with some, of which the most important is its touchdriver which is fixed to a lower consumption of CPU, I've been testing and although the cel runs normal and does not pull as much CPU used to be before, ie it is something like that of Der_Caveman without losing fluidity, it seems very good. Indeed, almost as good as Franco kernel (this is just my opinion).
Great kernel, nevertheless. And strange that it has no large user base, at least on XDA...

On the same topic, I find people hyper-sensitive here on this forum...very hard to crack a joke and make a sarcastic comment...you must have seen the reaction my comments triggered in the franco kernel thread. I wonder why...

Anyone? Need help modifying a CM7 overlay folder to match more of my 7" device rather than the 10" device I copied it from.

Official ?? *__*
OP fixed to stop confusion (these are not official nightlies)
Think I'll wait, the current roms are quite stable apart from missing FP, the rest works well, will obviously work better when official source is released but introducing random crashes/reboots just to get FP....nah, I'll wait. Good luck though

I have had this device since I was 15 years old.
I am now 17, and will return to development as soon as I finish my secondary education exams (that's June 2017).
I will be, hopefully, the last person ever to desert this precious device.

If you about porting ROM, it's not too hard while this ROM has the same chip set with this phone. In case, if you found bug after porting, this point is really hard to fix it. Therefore, fixing the bug takes a long time.

Porting ROM not too hard. Just follow this guide:

I'm working on getting a Nougat themed TW ROM. And I'll be upgrading my PC sometime in the coming two weeks, so I'll start AOSP too. Lineage would be easier I guess.

It would be really hard if you find ROM that has different chip set with this phone. And also, if you wanna to obtain sources tree, you must provide a very high connection.
Another hard point is if you done port the ROM, it just not booting, you need to modify zimage (core of boot.img). In this point, you need logcat to analyze error.
