[Q] Who decides where android apps are available? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As an avid crossword fan I was disappointed to find that the recently announced Guardian Crossword App is not available in New Zealand, although it is available in Australia.
For what reason, and by whom, are such decisions made?
I don't want to risk the warranty by rooting my tab.

I have the app on my "rooted" GT-I9003.
Is it possible to copy or migrate it to my Samsung Tab?

You don't need to be rooted to sideload apks, unless the app is checking your build.prop for your country.

It's there already!!!!
Just checked my tablet and the app is there!
Looks like all the apps on my phone were automatically installed on the tablet when I linked it to my Google account.
Cunning devices these androids!!

Can't see any paid apps whatsoever!

I have a HTC Hero but I can't see even ONE paid application in the App Market. I bought this device from Dubai (someone got it from UK - unlocked version). I really want to have paid applications on my HTC Hero, but so far no luck
Can anyone help me with that? I tried searching the forums for such issues, but didn't found any proper solution/fix to that.
If you are in a region where Google have not officially "launched" the Market, you won't see paid apps. You need to use the market enabler to spoof the Market into believing you are in a region where paid apps are available.

at the moment there are also some problems with the market in germany, some apps are missing..
Or you can always wait for Android 1.6 (Donut)...

best GPS app that doesn't require data connection?

I'm wondering if there is a good application for my droid that will use the GPS to get me around with a preloaded map database so that it doesn't rely on me having a data connection.
Edit: did some research, looks like osmand and mapdroyd are the best choices. Any user opinions on which is better and why?
Thanks,
PEZ
Google maps works well for a *basic* map, newer versions can cache the map.
Thanks but I was looking for something that could do TBT navigation as well.

Are you using the Android Market app to try and download google maps? If so try accessing the android market from your phone's built in web browser instead. Download google maps from your browser onto your SD card and install it manually.

Does ask others on a development forum to help you be dumb and disrespectful toward software developers. $20 is cheap.

[Q] how to change the region of play market?

I have a Sony Tablet S (wifi only) bought in US. When I take this tablet to China, the Play Market only shows apps of China.
Is there a way to let Play Market show apps of US? Please help me.

Missing out (again) on Device compatibility. Virgin TV Anywhere (UK)

I see the Ultra is not supported for this App. Disappointing considering we still can't download with Iplayer.......
Devices which can use Anywhere app
Sony Xperia L (C2105)
Sony Xperia SP (C5302/03/06)
Sony Xperia Z (C6602/03)
Sony Xperia Z1 (C6902/03/06/43)
Sony Xperia U (ST25)
It's Virgin's responsibility to update their app. Send them a mail and ask if they can update it.
The Ultra is missed by a lot of developers. I've had a good response rate from developers and they have all said that they acknowledge the issue and will get an update done.

They have only just added any Android support - took them ages. Use the "Contact Us" form on their website to request it to be added, that's what I've done.
If you are rooted there uses a module for xposed called play store fixes which tricks it into thinking the dpi of the phone is different.

I don't believe it's a DPI issue, it's model.
Answer from Virgin Media, not good news:
Thanks for your e-mail to Virgin Media about the availability of the
Sony Xperia Z Ultra on TV Anywhere.
We understand your concern.
Right now, we're sorry but it doesn't look like we've got any plans to
add Sony Xperia Z Ultra on TV Anywhere App. We're always working with
the providers to bring our customers even more choice on Virgin TV, so
keep your eyes peeled! And check out www.virginmedia.com for the latest
stuff.

I don't see why there's a problem, there are many android devices with the same screen resolution and processor.
I would try one of the market helper apps, or xposed, to make Google Play think you're on a recognised device. I had to do this with previous phone, Note 2, to load the tesco clubcard TV app.

Doesn't the phone have to be rooted to use xposed? If so, then the app won't work anyway on rooted devices according to the comments in the store
A late reply but I have a One X which is also not supported. I used Device Spoofer to make my device appear as the HTC One. I was able to download and install the app from the market. In addition the app's record, remote control and program manager functions work perfectly however the ability to watch programs on the phone is blocked by a root checker.

Virgin say you can use those features of the app from any android phone.

You can only install the app on an approved device though (officially). The TVguide app has record functions but it doesn't have have network remote features.
Why do they do a root check? You can use the software on any PC, with whatever hacks you want installed, but there's some obsession with root on Android...

change gear s tizen into android os

hi guys
can u install on my gear s android os instead tizen ?
thanx
That would be cool at least a bigger app selection and Google now

only rumour but the up coming Z1 is able to run android apps
Sent from my SM-T320 using XDA Free mobile app
Rumor sadly incorrect: Android apps won't run on the Z1.
I'd love to find a way to install Android apps on the Gear S. The Tizen app store is such a joke
Google won't let Samsung get away with installing Google Play Market apps, especially Google services apps on a non-sanctioned OS, especially the one Samsung is hoping to compete against Android OS. So, the best Samsung can do is create its own app market and hope devs are supporting it. I seriously doubt this will take off. Samsung can't even make its own Android app work correctly across its own ranges of Android phones. They know how to make fantastic phones but their software has always below average.

Glad im not the only one.
I too have been searching for how to do this. Did you ever succeed?
I found some android 5.0 links from a google search, but they look fake. wonder if CM11 or CM12 would work OR the method used for the gear 2. Sure would be nice. i almost got the ZGPAX S8 (nearly the same guts), but opted for the Gear S (for the scren) w/ hopes for the eventual android ROM.
Fingers Crossed,
:good:
hasnt happened, there is nothing in the works, any links on google that say otherwise are false....
