hey guys im kinda in some desperate need for help lol. so i had twrp 1.1.1 installed, but i wanted to go to 2.1 and try it out. i successfully flashed 2.1 and booted back into system. i wanted to flash leedroid tweaks so i booted back into 2.1 recovery and flashed it. it went through but i cannot get past the splash screen. i tried to boot into recovery through fastboot to make some changes, but i cannot get throuh because i still have that zip on my sdcard and it asks me to apply the update every time. im not sure what to do at this point...anyone have some help they can give me?
Another reason why twrp sucks.
Just do a full wipe and reflash the Rom you were currently on.

PG86IMG.zip is the file you speak of and no...youll know if you install that bc of the screens that load up
finally got it. i couldnt access anything because my phone couldnt get to recovery. i ended up having to go and buy a sd card with an adapter to manually move the files around. i had to go back to twrp 1.1.1 through bootloader and then reflashing a rom. what a mess. but its all good.

Lmao that sucks did you have another phone layin around with a usb cord for it.
it seems I have the worst of what the gentlemen has.Actually I have been stuck at the splash screen for
more then and 30min each time before the boot loop.I have had it unlocked in managed to install sos m rom but never was able to boot into it so I tried mean roms same issue.I then re locked ,installed the
htc dev stock rom still stuck at boot screen, now have unlocked again and still stuck
at boot screen following your immediate method no results any help is greatly appreciated
hboot 1.5 S-on unlocked
cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img
I'm having the same problem. I figured out by holding down the power button for 20 seconds when its stuck in the splash screen it will bypass the issue. If that doesn't work pull the battery out and put it back in. Hold down the power button down 20 seconds while it attempts to boot.... hopefully that will get it to boot into what ever Rom you previously flashed. I have flashed, several differant roms, done super wipes, modified wipes, flashed differant recoveries, updated the radio, and I'm still having issues where I get stuck in the splash screen or I have issues where I can't boot into recovery (its a hit or miss after a couple of different approaches)
This all happened after I went from ICS back to GB (mean rom)

I think I may have a problem... I flashed the MR2.5 radio successfully, flashed GingerRemix 2.1 and had everything working ok (except for drawer, phone, and personalize buttons doing opposite operations) and then I tried flashing the MatteHD theme. Now I'm stuck at the black "das BAMF the Baddest!" screen. I've pulled the battery and gotten into Hboot but I can't change the options and get into recovery. All it does is go into the update option (like when flashing a new radio). PLEASE HELP
did you delete the radio PG05 file?
How long was it on that screen? I've never tried that ROM before but I have been stuck on a loaf screen for over 20 mins before .. let it sit for a while imo

Not after upgrading to MR2.5
delete the file off your microsd and then boot the hboot and you should be able to go to recovery from there cause in hboot its gonna search for that file but once it cant find it, itll let you choose the option to go to clockwormod

I'll try that. I'm gonna wait a few more minutes at this screen and see if it miraculously loads normally but I'm very doubtful it will. It does go through the initial bootup screen and a second screen/animation with no problems but at this third screen is where it is seemingly stuck. If it doesn't load I will definitely remove that radio .zip and attempt recovery again. Thanks a ton guys for your help. I'll keep you posted
Or just rename it so you don't have to redownload later
THUNDERBOLT
yeah you could always just remain it and stuff and yeah you should definatly try the renaming or deleting of the file to return to recovery. hope it works
I hope its ok man!
Update:
I renamed the radio file back to what it was and was able to get into recovery. I'm currently restoring a Nandroid backup so I should be back in business soon. HUGE relief. Thank you so much for the help. You guys are what makes this online community so incredible.
I bet you just had to wait. I've had that same screen take 15 or 20 minutes to load after flashing a rom or kernel before.

May have been the case possibly. I just wiped a few times and flashed dbamf 1.8 and it took about 10mins to boot or so I bet. Odd but I wasnt worried

Waiting didn't do it... I left it at that screen for over 2 hours (thank God for the extended battery). It was worth a shot. I think the Matte HD theme was the culprit.

Flashed nils bgs last night, flashed dsb kernel, then set up, de bloated, etc. Went to do a restart and ended up in a bootloop. PH98IMG for the kernel is still on the root of the sd card, so it keeps trying to update it. When I choose no to the update, it just restarts and continues the boot loop. How can I get back into recovery to attempt to fix this issue?

flashed WARM-3.5-evo3d-unofficial-r100.zip
from sdcard.
had down a factory wipe initially.. tried clearing dalvik cache again but still cannot get past htc screen. ugh
correction i flashed to r119.zip
Did you wipe system as well? How long are you giving it at the HTC Splash screen before you decide it's frozen? I haven't been keeping up to date with the Warm train lately, so I'm not sure if there have been any issues with the builds. I know back in the day, sometimes the build bot that myn used would bork a build from time to time and it wouldn't flash. Have you tried flashing any other builds, or just r119?
yes i did a complete wipe initially.. flashed.. got stuck at screen.. i left it there for 2-3 mins with no response.. just hovering at the HTC screen. I have not tried flashing any other roms as I wasnt sure what if any adverse affect this may have on the current problem

Before you go any further in trying to figure it out, I would let it sit at the HTC screen a bit longer than a couple minutes. I've had it hang there for 5 or 6 minutes on certain sense roms that I flash, especially on the first boot. Give it a solid 7 minutes or so, and if it's still hanging there..then yea it's stuck. After that, I would simply try flashing something else and see if it works. Perhaps you got a bad download as well, maybe try re downloading it.
suggestions on how to move rom to sdcard if phone isnt booting hence PC isnt seeing the drive?
is it possible to go back to stock rom if this doesnt work?

Transfer it to the SD card from recovery. I'm not sure what recovery you're on, but every recovery has the feature to mount the sd card from within recovery. It's like USB MS Toggle or something to that nature. In TWRP 2, I think it's under the 'mount' tab.
Did you just try turning it on again yet, and seeing if it will eventually get past the HTC Screen? Again, it could take a bit more than 2 or 3 minutes on the first boot.
EDIT: And yea, you should be able to get back to a stock ROM no problem, or at least get back to a functioning phone, lol. Did you make a nandroid of your stock setup right after you rooted, before you tried flashing warm?
no i didnt make a nandroid backup sadly. im letting it sit for 10 mins before i give up on tyhis version
I don't think that ROM will boot as I'm pretty sure it has no boot image in it. Joelz was doing some stuff on the later builds and removed the bootimage.
Go into the thread and look for Vin's post. He is on the front page or on post 2. He has been the one updating the ROM for Joelz. the last version I knew of was around 01/12 or so?

My friend's phone tried to pull an OTA while he had CWM recovery installed, and it started boot looping. Had to download the stock recovery, name is PG05IMG.zip in the root of the SDCard, and force the phone to boot to the bootloader and install it. Once it did, the phone started up, rebooted itself, and installed the OTA fine. Sounds like yours may be trying to do something similar?
If so rooted phones need caches cleared for the ota to work.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
From my understanding, Rooted can still take OTA, but you have to have stock recovery to do it (as I witnessed earlier). You will lose root, and will have to re-flash recovery to TWRP, CWMR, or whatever your normal choice is, and then re-apply the su.zip, but otherwise easy as pie.

Stock recovery PG05IMG.zip http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61129367/PG05IMG-Stock-Recovery.zip
Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread to try and help out. I just started having a very similar problem- I'm rooted and running stock, but apparently my phone accepted an OTA and I'm stuck in a bootloop as well.
I got into CWM recovery and downloaded the stock recovery PG05IMG.zip, but it won't install. It just aborts every time I try to install it. I'm a noob at this stuff and not very good at dealing with these sorts of things and I've been having a panic attack for the past hour, so if anyone could help me as soon as possible I would really appreciate it.
I'm really scared of making things worse than they already are. I just want a working phone.

pull battery, wait a minute, turn on phone
when in bootloader screen,
volume down, select reboot
back to white screen, select recovery ( i had to do this twice)
hold volume up and power when black screen appears
choose the bottom option (wipe cache i believe)
choose reboot
phone should be good aftter this
( idont own a thunderbolt, but i had to fix this for a nother phone, called tech support and this worked)
hope this helps - hopefully saves someone from ruu'ing and wiping their phone

The zip won't work in CWM because it's not designed for use with CWM. It's designed for use in Fastboot. Should be on the root of your sd card. From off, if I'm correct (like this with other HTC devices), hold volume down and power to boot into fastboot. This will allow it to flash the stock recovery.

I recently was trying to upgrade from ICS Dev edition 1.2 to 1.4 and i installed it just fine through recovery..... my device is S-ON still so rebooted to the bootloader to flash the kernel and it went smooth. Allow it to load up, skip the account install info..... get to the main screen and let everything settle in then reboot, upon the next reboot i get to the main screen and try and login to my google play account to start downloading apps and my phone reboots itself after the push from gmail comes through. It does this upon every attempt at restarting the phone. I did a battery pull and cannot get back into recovery because the kernel image is still on the root....I cannot figure out what to do as i have never had this much trouble with a rom before. I know there is away to relock my device and install the latest RUU and get back to working but i dont know how to get into my bootloader to do all this. If anyone could help me out it would be great appreciated as im banging my head here trying to get a functioning phone back.
If you have an external sd card reader, use it to erase the ph98img.zip file. Otherwise you can boot phone with sd card slid partly out, slide back in when booted into recovery, takes a little dexterity.

You could use an old phone, if you have it, to rename/delete the file. As to the original problem, if you are still on GB firmware, make sure to flash the patch, too.
If you would of just flashed the old firmware patch you would not of faced this issue

To make it easier, if you're using TWRP just mount USB storage in recovery.
Whisper ROM coming soon.
Your phone isn't bricked. You have to have the SD Card slide partially out and hold the battery down hard so it still powers on. Go to bootloader and go to recovery and then you can slide the SD back in and boom you're golden. No worries

this method DOES work. all this method does is Bypass the "PH98IMG" scanner so it wont find it because the SDcard is not inserted in Properly. so it will then continue into hboot which would allow you to access your Recovery which would then help you to fix your problems.
